Hi I have basic query. I have updated officially to 4.3. I can see knox as an application but I have not yet opened it.does the flag trigger while rooting even if the knox has not been activated?

off: this is a question and must be posted on q&a
not the app is the problem, the real problem is knox from bootloader. reboot your phone in download mod and you"ll see it there (the flag trigger).

Ok so with a fair bit of browsing and searching i came across this website HERE
i just want to know if this will root my 4.3 android device which was upgraded OTA from 4.1.2 to 4.3 via Telus
and is it a clean root. basicly keeping stock os and adding the root availability to it. and then allow me to add other software i need.
It should. Chainfire's root tars are generally super solid.
Well I gave it a try but now I have issues with the KNOX blocking the root and of course KNOX doesn't work any ideas how to do that and get rid of knox

Unfortunately I have no experience with KNOX at all. I've read that, if you're rooted, you can remove Knox with Titanium Backup but that puts you back to step 1 of getting root. Chainfire's page says that rooting with his method will trip KNOX but it doesn't mention anything about blocking it. Here's the page for your device. He might have some updated info there:

Hmm ya well for some reason my knox says superSU is trying to access a restricted area of the device and is being blocked so it didn't trip my knox. And as for trying to install knox it won't work not that I want it. I even used Kies to factory restore it. No superSU anymore but does show in my updates to update it

Just go to the play store and update super user. Once this is done open the app it will say update, say yes normal and it will now disable Knox and super user will work.

You initially did it running the CF-Auto-Root. Running SuperSu just put the icing on the cake.
Can my n7100 get official update via wifi even if my knox is void?

Can someone answer pls. Still waiting for a reply

Yes. As long as the system status is Official, you will continue to get OTA updates even if KNOX counter is 1.
Can we root the official At&T 4.3 yet?
I Odin'd my phone back to 4.1.2 before sending it out due to a bad headphone jack. It updated to 4.3 today and curious when my replacement comes and probably has 4.3 on it already, can it be rooted quick and just run a rooted stock for a while?
EDIT
Good KNOX info http://www.kingoapp.com/help/samsung-knox-counter.htm
This is what you need:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980644
after you do it you will have to update SU through the play store and then it will disable knox for you as well..

Thanks alot!
No worries! Just keep in mind after you do it you'll get notifications about knox and security. Ignore them and head to the play store to update SU, because you won't be able to open SU till then. Also bear in mind that this will trip the knox counter and there is no going back.....it will void your warranty! You have been warned

KNOX counter is seperate from the Flash Counter? Before when I was on stock 4.1.2 and flashed custom 4.3 and 4.4 roms , I never saw any KNOX notifications or warning...Is this new with the 4.3 OTA?
My first phone had headphone jacks issues too. i reset it with odin and had it replaced with no issues from at&T. Now this one is repeating the same issue. I Odin back to 4.1.2 and took the 4.3 OTA before i call them and they want to remote desktop into my phone like before.
If KNOX only comes with the 4.3 OTA i wont take it if the replacment phone doesnt come with 4.3 preloaded
Anyway of confirm KNOX status on my phone? or is it something at&t doesnt look at
I Rebooted into download mode and it says KNOX Warranty VOID:0
So i guess I am good with this one......?
Never saw the KNOX before in download mode...So it must have came with the 4.3 OTA
If the replacemnt comes preloaded with 4.3 and I root theres no going back for non rooting warranty issues
If it comes with 4.1.2 i should be ok...cause my others came with 4.1.2 and i rooted and installed 4.3 and 4.4 roms , odin'd back to 4.1.2 and never saw knox before.
It's new in the 4.3 OTA MK6. It is separate from the flash counter and CANNOT as of now be reset. They can see it in the same place the flash counter is.
It will show 1 which means warranty void. If you can get one without 4.3 do it
This is what it looks like now:
Triangle away still works but the knox counter stays no matter what!
Edit: If it is still showing 0, then you are good to go
Geeve
thats good news LOL
4.3 preloaed=screwed if i root it
4.1.2 preloaded= no knox, free to root, flash, unroot and reset , send back with any non root related warranty issues.
Glad i didnt root the OTA in the meantime while i wait for my replacment..
Thanks for all info and help Geeve
You got it and no problem
Geeve
So i guess no custom 4.3 or 4.4 rom will install KNOX behind our backs..Just the OTA and any possible updated bootloaders if we dont pay attension and flash one
Baseband/Modem updates should not install knox...correct?
Correct! all the custom 4.3/4.4 roms use a leaked bootloader and most if not all have the knox stuff removed. It is only the MK6 OTA for our phones that is screwing us right now. We can still root and flash, but warranties are void..

Looks to me like you have the official MK6 OTA. I wouldn't mess with it if you have to return it. That other thread wont help.

I have a T-mobile Galaxy S4 and it's currently running danvdh's GPE edition. I am considering updating via the OTA to get the new baseband/radio. I currently have the mixed MK2/MDL radio/baseband. I know that I'll get knox if I update...but IIRC, the Knox apps are able to be removed, and flashing new ROMs will trip Knox, but aside from voiding the warranty, what else does this do? Nothing? Lol

This is a full and complete answer, by the way. That is all it will do aside from the warrent.y It does not affect your daily use at all.
Just to confirm though. If I go back to complete stock and do this update and then apply any kind of root it will hit the Knox flag right?
Right now mine is still 0x0
Pretty sure it's flashing a custom recovery that trips Knox, not rooting.

I would like to point out that as of right now I have not seen a method to root 4.4 without tripping knox counter. 4.3 yes Saferoot works but not for 4.4
I just got my insurance replacement and it's on 5.02. I installed pingpong root and it took but I have a few questions.
Is device status= custom normal?
Is software update pop-up normal? I was under the impression pingpong root blocked the OTA update.
How do I check if Knox was tripped?
Sent from my SM-G925T using XDA Free mobile app
Status custom is normal since it adds files to the system directory.
Ping pong doesn't block ota updates.
To check Knox boot into bootloader and look at the counter there.

software update pop-up is normal. and please update ur phone, the latest version right now is 5.1.1 but u'll have to root ur phone again. and if you want to to check ur knox, boot ur phone into Download Mode, if it said 0x0 = no 0x1= knox tripped

Will Knox trip if I update and root? Aside from fixing the ram issue, what is the advantage to upgrading?
Sent from my SM-G925T using XDA Free mobile app
Anyone?
Yes. Short of using Engineering bootloader and manually flashing the rest, there's no way to root the recent version without tripping Knox.

If you want to root ur phone then why bother with the Knox issue. Or idk about this, but u can try install rom that create by other and install it on ur phone. I dont think it gonna trip Knox
On any official bootloader flashing a custom recovery will trip it.
