I was wondering why the samsung epic screen consumes so much battery life. I have my screen fully dimmed and on top of that the screen filter is around 50% and my screen still comsumes 80%-90% of my battery life. Is anybody working on any mode that will help this problem or is it because the samsung epic has a Super Amoled screen which comsume more battery life. Great phone I am just hope somebody can mode the screen consumption of the battery life. The battery is good with a custom Rom I just wish it could be even better.
You're missing the point. The fact the screen uses 80% of the battery means nothing more than that it draws more power than any other part, there isn't anything wrong with that. The screen is on so it uses power, pretty simple. Now if the radio was using 90% of the battery that would be bad.

Well that is true. I was just wondering if they cause make the battery consumption from the screen a little bit less taxing. I am grateful the the Radio is not comsumption a lot of the battery life.
Weird thing I had on my htc hero before an update was screen battery use was super high too (same levels seen here). Then after some update, it was a much more normal range (somewhere around 30-40% maybe?) consistently. I'm wondering if it's really that much of the power usage or just a bug in the reporting. Butt smoke is done blowing by me now.
The more it sits idle, the lower the percentage gets. It's a relative statistic.
Well, I guess its because the radio uses a lot less, it has to add up to 100 percent, and if you're using the display that time, then its probably what is using up the most battery

Lol I hadn't even noticed that one.
My screen takes up about 90% of the battery usage as well, but that is only since Froyo. On Froyo, the battery usage only shows Display at about 95% and Cell Standby at the other 5%. On Eclair it would show everything else that would run throughout the day like live wallpapers and whatnot. Froyo only shows Display and Cell Standby, but oh well, it doesn't mean that it's killing your phone quicker, since I upgraded to Froyo and got roms and everything installed, I get about twice the battery life.
I think you have to be NUTS to not like the Almond screen !!!
The battery life is good.

LOL!!! The joke is on me!!! I do love the display. I am just getting greed for more battery life that is all.
Yeah, as was stated above, it's just a relative statistic. The screen would naturally take up more of the total 100% allocable battery life. Makes sense, since the screen is always on when you do anything to your phone. Try restarting your phone, then play your music player for a while with the screen off. You should see that statistic change considerably.
The reason the screen takes up such a large percentage of battery life is because they made the rest of the phone so efficient!
I barely used my phone yesterday. It has been on for 1 day 17 hours since I swapped batteries and I still have a 36% charge. The screen has been on for 1 hr 59 minutes in that time, but it accounts for 71% of my battery usage. When you aren't seeing the TWS bug, everything else in your phone draws an incredibly small amount of power which makes the screen look like it is using a lot of juice.
its the price you pay for hd quality i guess
Screen filters use more voltage to apply so don't use them. And it is an app that is always running. This is an amazing screen.
I bought this amazing [As you all know how fast it is ] Galaxy Nexus and was previously using hTC Desire S[GB] !!!
I'm somehow not happy with the battery life and also the overheating of Nexus !
It is Stock[ROM + Kernel] + Root ! around 7th or 8th charge cycle !!
I did try out Cpu Sleeper App works like a charm but was facing reboot issue and that is why had to remove it !!!
See if anyone of you could help me overcome these issue ! or Is this really something for me to worry about !!?????
[PS: Please don't recommend me to change ROM or KERNEL ! Because I prefer to stay on Stock ! Also NOOO Overclockig !]
Check out the Few screen shots i took when my brain kicked me to !!!
We need to see the screen before this one(the one that lists top consumers of battery). To see if something is waking the phone up. Also, charge cycles and calibration are bogus. If anything, you would be using the phone less since you've finally set everything up the way you want and the newness effect has worn off. My battery life has been about the same if my usage pattern remains like it usually does throughout the day. It doesn't really look too bad, but the drops seem a little steeper than what I normally see. . Grab CPUSpy and BetterBatterystats. I'm on my way to work soon, but someone may be able to help you before I go on break.

Here we go
ok so calibrators and cycles are bogus ! I get that !
What about brightness ? Should that be auto or manual mode ??
And is Google Now causing issue ?? Because its not really useful to me on daily basis !!???
And any other suggestions your would like to share
I was gonna edit my post, actually. I've personally never fully charged and drained my battery for any of my phones(some people swear by it though). I guess if the readings are out of whack then yes. My phone got stuck at 85% for almost 12 hours one day, but I had did something which messed up the OS. Haha.
If you don't use Google Now, you can opt out of it. Brightness is a personal preference. I usually stick mine at 25%. Auto may take a hit on the battery, but I doubt it's anything to worry about. Just the common sense stuff. Apps that poll data in the background will drain the battery, but if they're properly coded, they shouldn't be a problem Running on 4G/LTE/HSPA with a bad signal will drain it more since the radio is trying to find the best possible signal. After a full day of use, what is your typical screen on time? 18 hours is pretty good if you're using it on HSPA all day.
ya honestly that doesnt appear to have anything wrong. What results were you expecting vs what you have? You have a lot of screen on time, that takes a LOT of battery to run the display and using it when brightness is high takes significantly more. Also it appears you have a couple long phone calls in there as well. As far as heat goes, youre going to have that on the higher end phones due to the gpu producing heat and oled displays produce a bit of heat as well, lcd runs cooler.
Weak/unstable/unrealible mobile network signal could cause the fast drain of your battery. I saw you have one bar of hspa signal in the 3rd screenshot.
Those graphs should be much flatter during idle periods. Something is keeping awake. If you're on jelly bean its prob Google now. It does it to everybody.

Actually 3G isn't really well established for Vodafone[or any other company] in India. Also there is a peak going upwards in the first image indicating charging and after having a battery life of around 20 hrs on My Desire S and screen on [appx.] 7 hrs , I'm very disappointed with Jelly Bean !! Also While googling this issue I found out that somebody sniffed the mobile wifi connection to monitor and found some app constantly exchanging packets which according to his test was the root issue for the battery drain !!
Edit:
]Ok I found the way to shut google Now !
I'll records stats for a day or two and get back Thanks Everyone for your time and help

In Google Now >> Menu >> Settings >> Google Now there is an on/off switch at the top. Depending on the ROM it's included as either velvet.apk or QuickSearchBox.apk but removing that would get rid of Google search I think.
Yeah. I think its actually part of search. Like I said, just opt out and you should be good to go. Keep us posted.

My girlfriend has a GS3 love the phone but it has a serious battery drain. It doesn't matter if its a stock or custom rom. It is running stock 4.3 right now and the battery has gone from 100 to 83 in 3 hours. with 30 min screen time. I thought it was the battery so i got another Samsung battery and its not ant better. I tried to search but it seem the search funtion is not working because it gives me nothing no matter what I search for. Any sugestions would be great.

try a different charger or port
2nd updating from 4.3 from 4.1.2 has a big change to the phone how it works etc and by that the phone takes time to adjust to 4.3 thus getting bad battery drains, a week or two or a month and the battery will be as good as ever

Get battery saver or juice defender this are two apps I have used to monitor my battery usage and they recommend to charge the phone to 100% and that will change as to how fast your battery dies
Letting the phone die and charging results to bad battery life while recharging phone at a timely manner increases battery life
Also note that GPS/WiFi/data/screen drains battery like crazy so fix those and you will notice a big difference
Just received my Tab pro 8.4 today, and the 1st thing i notice is that its running a lot hotter than any other devices ive used before. Screen is not on Max brightness and it gets pretty hot after about 30 mins of web browsing. Anyone else have this issue at all? Can anyone offer suggestions to what might be happening or is it normal?
When i mean Hot, i mean it gets a little bit uncomfortable to hold. Its feels like its been left in the sun for about 20 mins etc... ill do a temperature test when it happens again.

I have no logical explanation for it but mine had terrible battery life at first and got hot when I first bought it as well. After several discharges it calmed down to a reasonable, though still somewhat disappointing, battery life and a normal temperature. Battery's often perform slightly better after a few discharge cycles but I have never owned another device that made so drastic a change before. let me know if you experience the same thing.
I have the LTE version and have exactly the same issue. I've noticed that when the tab is downloading something it gets very hot, and when I put the SD card in (I've been putting it in other devices to get data on it) it hats up for a while, presumably indexing.
All the times I've noticed it hot, I've also noticed the battery drain real fast, so I'm guessing it's just CPU intense (very intense) activity. The hot spot is on the left hand bezel halfway up - where I imagine the CPU is. I'm still trying to lock down the exactusage patterns that cause heading other than those two I mentioned.
And a quick word about battery, I'm about five cycles in and battery life had become truely excellent. After moderate-light use yesterday I went to bed with 73% left!!

This is the same as mine. Glad im not the only one.
After about 2 charge cycles, Tablet does not seem to be getting that hot any more. Though im yet to do a full day of testing. Will report back if it continues.
Wifi version because my phone supplies me a hotspot whenever I happen to be away from wifi and I have never even felt heat at all.
No heat on my Wifi 8.4
So when will you release cleanrom for htc one at&t kitkat 4.4.2? i've been waiting since months...

Hey guys,
So I just moved from iPhone finally, first few days with the G3 and I'm wowed of course, my only concern is that I expected the battery to be a lot better, of course it's better than the iPhone, but I did not expect it to drain so fast, first few % goes slow but then it drops fast, and I'm not doing anything special or massive use, brightness set to auto, and it's trickle charged, I dropped to like 20% after 2:20 hours of screen use.
So my question, is that what I can expect from the G3 because of the massive resolution? or it's just on the beginning?
Would love to hear from your experience! any tips would be cool!
Thanks!
Its because of the qhd screen, better screen, more battery drain, if u root u can adjust a few things to help a little, mine isent to bad
My first 10 percent drop I can get almost a hour of screen time, barely 2 1/2 at 50%. Thinking of returning this for the M8..

This is true, but because you're a new user, I'd highly recommend not rooting for a while, until you've worked out the kinks in your phone. You can set the brightness to a certain percentage, and then auto-brightness uses that percentage as a base and will not let the screen go lower than that level. As for apps that can help you out, I use and highly recommend this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antutu.powersaver
You can select 3 different levels of saving, and I seem to get around 20% more battery life when use it. Or you can look for anything else along those lines. LG also has some built-in tools to help keep your battery going. There's the built-in battery saver option: http://www.androidcentral.com/how-use-battery-saver-lg-g3
There's also a few other things, this site covers it pretty well: http://www.androidcentral.com/lg-g3-help-tips-and-tricks
Anyways, hope that helps, and welcome to the family!
Hey thanks for the help guys!
I will definitely try some of the suggestions, and also considering to root it.
Does it get better with time tho? I mean this is just my 3rd of 4th cycle.
Thanks again guys!

Yes, usually takes a few circles to the battery to settle down. Mine at the beginning was draining fast too but now I'm getting almost 5 hours of screen on time. That's pretty good in my opinion. I use my phone a lot and by the end of the day I'm over 30%. My gs4 was over way before that.

My battery was terrible the first week. It's gotten much better since. So it will calm down after a bit.

My battery was horrible the first week on my g2 but seems better on the g3, I don't think it will get better than this and if it does that's awesome!
I also feel like it doesn't use as much battery when screen on as my g2 did.
