Nexus 7 Powerrrrr! - LG Optimus G Pro

Just picked up a N7 (2013) 2 days ago, and I gotta say one thing.. NFC is AWESOME! This tablet is the PERFECT size for one handed use, and I love the fact that they're both running CM11. It's perfectly sized to fit in my pocket, and the screen is on par with the OGP! (I like the OGP screen a tad better, but the N7's screen is pretty close)
It's a great companion for my phone, as I hotspot my OGP and watch movies on it, and browse the web, and can I say again NFC is awesome!
If you pick one up, you will NOT be disappointed!

I was aware that this was the 'General' section of the LG Optimus G Pro, meaning I may post off related topics. If I am not mistaken, there was a thread on the topic of trading the Nexus 5 for the G Pro.
Please bring the flame to another thread. I am simply sharing my findings with this forum, on the compatibility of the two devices, and the usefulness of having the two of them.

That's great man, I have a Nexus 10 running Slim and I do the same with the OG Pro, set it up as a hotspot and connect my Nexus mostly for Tapatalk and G+, I have the DPI density in the Nexus down to 268, and in the G Pro at 380 and they both look great.
Thanks for sharing.

You saved me some typing. ^
I'll also add, it fits nicely in the ol' pants pocket.
Love at first touch!
My first Nexus device and I'm really liking it do far. I must admit I do miss some of the functionality of Touch Wiz. But this tablet is a beast and a feast for the eyes. Really looking testing the multimedia capabilities of the tab.
Yep.
Nice price.
Looks cool.
Its google. It'll get updates as long as it can run them.
Dev support is likely to be off the hook until the next one is released if not longer.
No. Never with any device will I ever be satisfied because I love to tweak. I will always need just a few more MHz, or a touch faster I/O, or Tablet UI. But this is a Very nice tablet for it's form factor

Sorry to be a little off topic, but can someone give their personal opinion compared to the ipad3? I've been using the ipad3 for a while now and its very responsive in a lot of ways, especially when using chrome. My galaxy s4 seem a tad bit slower on the touch in chrome, so I'm hoping the nexus 7 would be as good as the ipad while using chrome or other browsers.

[Q] Deciding on Tab3 8.0 or not

Hey guys,
I've been thinking about the 8 inch version of this tablet for about a month. Bought one in Australia for my Mum and she loves the pants off it (her first tablet).
There's a special on at the moment in NL which brings it down to 200 euros which is a fairly decent price, but I also have the option of picking up a 2012 Nexus 7 new for 170. I've read some really terrible things about the 2013 nexus 7 and a fair few complaints about build quality on the 2012 version. I'm a student and if I buy something, it needs to genuinely last for a good two years (preferably more) to be worth the cost. Have you guys been happy with the quality of your devices?
I have noticed that there isn't much development for this device. Is this just because root has only recently been found? Or is there not much interest because of the Nexus family? I've always focused on development in buying devices and it's helped me squeeze four years out of my HTC Desire bravo and three years out of a friend's Galaxy S i9000.
So essentially what I'm asking is, does it seem like development might pick up in the future, and if not, is the quality of the device high enough that it would be worth trading off development potential? Sorry to ask such a general question, but I'm tearing my hair out trying to make a decision while the nexus 7 2012 is still in stock.
Thanks in advance!

same here. I got the Tab 3 8.0 and I love it. But now I want the LG 8.3. I already have a plan to give my tab to my daughter since she plays with ti and get the LG. But I'll wait for a sale on it.
ROMs Available
Are there ANY roms other than AOSP? I can't even find a Cyanogenmod or AOKP for this device :/
I see that some customers are complain about screen brightness on the LG is dull. Compare to Samsung

I had the Nexus 7 2012 and currently have the GTab 3 8.0. I had no problems whatsoever with the Nexus. It was a good tablet. I just found the screen dark and cramped. I love the GTab 3 8.0. So it's not "retina". Big deal. The screen is crisp and bright and looks great to me. The tablet runs smooth and fast.
Honestly between those two models it's between screen size and whether having an SD slot is important to you. They are both great tablets.
Would you change your tab 3 8.0 for a LG pad?

I have a Galaxy S4 and finally broke down and bought the Nexus 7 last week. Just love it. I can now actually read all the pdf files I need for work without massively squinting. It's an excellent size, fast, and no stinking bloatware.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I thought the same thing until I started to realize that for quick browsing and media consumption, a tablet is more convenient and battery efficient (I have the wifi N7) than either a smartphone or laptop (and I own both, with the S3 as the phone). Plus, if I want to bring the bigger screen out and about with me, it's so easy to do so.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I use my 7 tethered to my 5 to browse. Its a good solution to saving battery on the 5 because the screen isn't being used. I can browse for hours on the 7 and still have over 60% battery on the 5 before my day is over.

I have a Note 3 and still love my Nexus 7. My N7 is used mostly for games and web when I'm at home. My kids use it when I let them (they have to earn it) so its nice to not let them use my phone. There is definitely a difference when using a Note 3 and N7. Though the phone has a large screen, I still love my N7.
Its also nice to have a 2nd device if one is charging or has a dead battery.
The only thing I wish my N7 had was a pen like the Note 3. I bought my Nexus 7 before the Galaxy Note 8 came out and would probably still buy the Nexus 7 because of the price. Normal capacitive styluses just aren't as good as the S-Pen.
I have a note 2 and have tether on 24/7 w/ my N7 2013 now. I read everything on the N7 and don't really do all that much on the Note2 except quick texts (even though I text through the N7 as well using google voice).
I'm kind of thinking that I now want a very slim candybar like HD screen phone about 2.5 - 3.5 inches that is primarily for HD videos (like youtube) and phone calls. I use voice dictation so I don't care all that much for keyboard size...
I have a Note 2 and the 1st Gen Nexus 7 (until later today) and I like the combo. At home or in a cafe, I use the Nexus 7.
If I'm out running errands I will take the phone. The 5" size means I don't feel the need to take my Nexus 7 everywhere, and the 5 inches is very usable for anything I'm likely to do when out and about.

What could become my next phone?

I know this question is asked a lot...
But since the Google Galaxy Nexus came out... I wanted to have it and since I have it, I love it.
It's pure, it's solid, it's fast even though it is a shame that they told samsung to produce it
Is there any phone on the market, that is comparable to the Google Galaxy Nexus at its release?
BTW: I'm no OS-Nazi... if there are good reasons, I'd buy an Iphone or some Microsoft stuff^^

you think so?
why?
From what I hear it's pretty sick, but as you very well know the next "big thing" is right around the corner. I don't care what phone people choose, it will only stay on top for so long before being dethroned. For me, I'm going Nexus because I love pure android. No bloatware
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Yes I hate bloatware, too. But I don't look for a phone that is the best phone ever for the next 20 years. I look for a phone that has a large community, strong (my g-nexus fell out of my pocket multiple times on concrete floor... still runs like a charm) but it also feels great when you hold it in your hands... and the best thing is: I have this phone for two years now, never replaced the battery and it still runs a whole day with one charge.
Did they bring us with gorilla-glass 3 finally the thing they promised with their first revision?
Nexus 5 comes with gorilla glass. Not too much bigger than the gnex with a 5inch screen. I'll find out Saturday what it feels like in your hand when mine arrives lol

I was excited for the Nexus 5, but when it came out I was underwhelmed. I got the Moto X and am very happy. Obviously the Nexus 5 has a faster processor and can be cheaper, but I honestly think the Moto X is very fast and the smaller size is a great. I got used to the Galaxy Nexus size, but a smaller phone is much nicer to use and .3" of screen size is not worth it to me. At least take a look at the Moto X, it's a nice phone.

I wholly agree with this. You will not notice it until you hold it in your hand but one-handed operation is harder on phones like the SGS3, and the Nexus 5 because it's simply a larger phone. I'm able to do so on the SGS3 but if I had to compare, it just feels better on the Moto X. I only wish I can have my own Moto X someday but the Gnex is still a good enough phone not to warrant the purchase. Everything feels better on the Moto X, I can't describe it. It's a natural upgrade to the Gnex. Also the audio amp is pretty good too so you can blast the music pretty loud while exercising.
I looked around a bit, and I find the moto droid maxx very interesting. Two days of battery-life along with a strong soc and 2GB of ram sounds amazing and it also looks very nice.
What I find really sad is the fact that I live in germany, so the moto x and the droid maxx are not available to me
Same thing for me,i'm italian

It depends on what carrier you're willing to go with. If you're under contract with, say Verizon, the nexus 5 is out of the question. If so, are you willing to change carriers to get a different phone? Or do you get unlocked phones?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
my contract is expiring in august 2014, but i still think i'll be going with Nexus 5. Samsung Gnex served me well for two years.
I was eyeballing the G2, guy I work with got the Nexus 5 for his wife and took her Nexus 4. He said the 5 is amazing, why he took the 4???
I just picked up the galaxy 8" note tablet and just hot spot my gnex to it. Seems like a perfect set up for me now. The note does everything and if I don't want to carry it along, the gnex still does what I need then.

BTW The iPhone 5s has a 640p screen I.e. not even standard HD which is 720p and the S5 is 1080p so I hope it looks better. I never understood iphones 'retina' anyway. To me it's more of a marketing ploy but I digress.
The N6 isn't really confirmed or even leaked so we may not know until right before a possible release. I would stick with the G3 and or read through the topic I linked above.

I've had almost all the NEXUS phones, the last two really didn't impress me at all. Too much compromise in the software for the "pure Android" experience. It might have been cool a couple years ago when manufacturers would bloat the phone down like crazy, well... Samsung's TouchJizz is still a major offender but other manufactures have really slimmed and optimized their UI's while adding a ton of useful features. It's now to the point where I feel pure Android is lacking way too much. Also I never had a good camera experience nor good battery life with ANY of my Nexus phones. It also seems like Nexus devices uses lower end components to meet their price quota, lower quality LCD panels, lower binned CPU/GPU's that thermal throttle like crazy, mediocre camera sensors, small batteries ect...
No more Nexus phones for me, unless they release something really extraordinary but I really doubt it with their budget price cap. After owning both the Nexus 5 and G2, it was incredible how much better the G2 was in everything from software, battery life, screen quality and camera. The G2 just seemed way better engineered and thought out, sure it was "almost" twice as much off contract as the Nexus 5 but this really was a case of "you get what you pay for".
I came from the Nexus 5 to G3 couldn't be more happy! Had enough of terrible battery life from the Nexus 5, will not be getting a Nexus phone ever again.

Agreed, I was also pretty unimpressed by both the Nexus 4 and 5. So the OP should just go ahead and get the G3 now. Then he can wait for the N6 release, and when everyone and their mother has reviewed it to death and found any faults, he can then proceed by selling the G3 and buying the N6 if he think it's worth it That's my plan anyway.
i have the n5 as well..it wont last me not even 2 hours...just using instagram snapchat..texts and facebook..sometimes browsing..ive had the n4 before and i dont think i will get the n6..as far as i heard..it is going to have a 5.2 screen..no sd..no ir blaster..the battery will suck..non removable battery it will probably not top out the g3

Resolution and pixel count are on par. Ram and Rom is on par, plus I can add micro sd and change battery. I love my G3 and Im on freakin Verizon. G3 is the best phone out right now....
