4.4 dialer sucks
That's why I went back to 4.3.

It really sux!
Agree with you.
Installing apk from jelly bean will fail as it has lower version (and it might be not the only reason).
Maybe some can grab sources from JB Dialer/Contacts app and change it's ID so Android will install it aside with original dialer as separate app painless?
:highfive:

it's just a matter of time till you get used to it, JB's dialer was and is outdated, the new one is a total improvement and you'll learn to like it like all of us did :fingers-crossed:

Why do you want the old dialer? If you have the same problem with it as me, I might have a workaround.
I hate that it doesnt show the dialer itself, I just want to open the app, press a few numbers and call a person. For this, someone made an Xposed module called Show Dialpad which will show the dialpad the moment you open the app. Now I don't mind using the new dialer anymore

Do you know how or if we can get landscape in the new dialler? With the 4.3 one, the dialler automatically switched to landscape when docked in the car, which the Kitkat one doesn't seem to do.

Xposed App Settings can also do that. Go to App Settings > Dialer, turn the switch on and in orientation, change (default) into Normal Rotation.

Thanks and yes I am already using that Xposed mod just to get some degree of landscape as unfortunately it doesn't give a 'proper' landscape mode. It just expands/compresses the portrait screen into landscape. So for example, the dialpad becomes almost unusable with the rows of numbers overlapping etc. On the 4.3 dialler, when docked, it brought up a properly formatted landscape mode, with the caller image on the left, and buttons on the right.

You can install Contacts+ from the play store. I would say it is a nice dialer to replace the stock.

If you need more information about it here is the thread.

Thanks. This certainly helps, but the one thing we're missing is the in-call landscape. Unfortunately due to the way Android works, it seems as if no other dialler can be used for the actual in-call functionality other than stock.

Landscape dialer?

Hi I was wondering if any of the roms you guys know about have a landscape dialer or is there a way to add one into any rom?
I use my phone for satnav a lot and at the moment when i get a call it changes the orientation to portrait which is annoying.
hello @all!
Any solution for this problem?
wensing said:
If the phone is in landscape mode, and an incoming call, the phone switches back to portrait.
The dailer does support landscape, though: if you are in portrait and switch to landscape, the dailer is OK.
Does anyone know a way to make the dailer come up OK in landscape?

Same problem for ages here. I tried to get advice several times here, but it seems, that noone is using xperia in this usecase. Only working solution is a ROM having Rhodium dialer (and it seems, that it must be correct version of the dialer or correct combination with winmo version) - I was using EnergyROM which was working excellent this way, until October builds. I tried to find another rom, but everyone out there has the problem (except original X1 dialer of course). Now I'm using 826x non-htc rom, which has also rhodium dialer and landscape is working fine.
hope this helps
Well i've got the cure. Not sure about puting it into a rom thought.
I have the verizon thunderbolt.
So this is the only phone i've tested it on.
You can get the car home ultra licence app.
The link below is for the free one. Not sure if it has the option but the paid one does.
Hint:try 4shared.com
The one with the litte red car as the icon shortcut.
Inside this app's options it has a check box to turn on car home
which came with the phone. It acts like you put it into a car dock from verizon.
And guess what the dialer is now landscape. So when you use this app
when your driving you can put a shortcuts on the app to call or open the phone.
It is in LANDSCAPE. It took me since the phone came out till today to find this
to work. Hope this helps anybody with a thunderbolt. and i bet other androids too.

[Q] Phone (not dialer) app in landscape?

I apologize if there are threads about this; I searched but did not find anything.
I recently got the official car dock for the Evo. I'm really happy with it, and how with CM6 almost everything rotates into landscape.
The major exception to this seems to to be the phone application (like during a call) - the dialer does change orientation properly.
Is anyone aware of any sort of fix to make the phone application change its orientation? It's pretty annoying that it stays in portrait and is sideways.
Thanks!
Like many others I use Dialer One because it looks cool AND you can search contact names by typing on the keypad, which you cannot do with the AOSP dialer.
Another benefit of Dialer One?? Yes, it rotates
When you place a phone call with Dialer One, does that show in landscape, or is it still portrait only?

Sorry man, I misunderstood (despite you being very specific about it)
The dialer does landscape but as soo as it starts the call the phone app opens and reverts to portrait
No worries. That's what I figured. It seems like there isn't any way, that I can find at least, to get the phone app to show in landscape. I have to admit I find it a bit odd, seeing as most other apps have no issues. Oh well...

[Q] How to change incoming call screen - Sense

Hi,
I there any way to change the default incoming call screen, when the phone is locked? The problem is that when someone calls me, and the phone is in my pocket.. the process of taking it out often involves reject or answer, while the phone is still in the pocket .
I've tried some dialers, but it seems that this is a part of htc sense.
If i can divert to standard android behavior it will help too .
Regards
Tried the App; Full Screen Caller ID ?
Yes I tried it, but its not a replacement of the default call screen .

same problem here!!
I think you have to use an other phone.apk or dailer. Then remove the htclockscreen.apk.
I wanted something similar. Just remove the htc stuff and use as only lock screen the unlock' pattern and not the htc or stock lockscreen!
I got same problem here.

Likewise, upon searching for a solution... none is found... I would very much like to use CM roms but i miss the Sense T9 dictonary... thats the reason i used Leedroids... if only cooked roms are able to change the HTC dialer to the stock ones...
There are dialer apps in the market with t9. Use one of those with cyanogenmod.

I don`t understand why Google didn`t implement t9 dialer already :/ Are there any patent`s for this? :/ Stock Android dialer sucks! aTakePhone is the best so far as I know (apart of SENSE of course )
I dont use the HTC lockscreen i removed it from the rom before install (using Revolution HD rom removed with RomCleaner)
I also removed the htcdialer.apk which does revert the phone back to the standard android answer screen (so much better imo) but your back on the android dialer and the main phone button on the homepage doesn't work either if you can live with that then just remove the htcdialer.apk.
I didn't use the phone to long without the htcdialer.apk so not sure if there are other issue's also...

Okay i did this but i must be doing something wrong...
I used Titanium Backup to remove the htc dialer ( i get repeated F/C for android core process)
Pulled out the battery.
After restart, pressing the dialer button/icon have no effect
Downloaded and used launcher pro, no effect either
downloaded Dialer one, docked it with launcher pro.. works like charm
BUT!!! When i called my own phone, im still getting that stupid HTC answer screen where u slide up and down instead of stock androids left and right...

Hmm i have been scouring the net and i seem to hit something...
If my searches is correct, the answer call slide screen is tied to the HTC Framework... Coz phones like Samsung galaxy in order to revert to the stock android lockscreen, they have to replace one of their framework files... policy something IIRC...
So wondering if any dev could look into the framework and do some editing/mods/changes?

hi,
I am having the same problem, really dont like the HTC sense screens but want to keep the stock rom as i get free turn by turn nav with my provider.
I have removed the lockscreen, so it revets to vinilla, but really want to change the slide down to answer screen?
has anyone looked into the last posed question?
It is incorporated into Sense.. No way to have a stock unlock screen and Sense ROM together...
U will have to get back to stock with scripts like "no-sense" and remove stuff from the rom after flashing it.. Or just install CM rom..
OR, this is maybe a walk around which i use it sometimes:
1. Install standard ROM with sense,
2. Install WidgetLocker
3. Set it up the way you like it
4. Choose an option to "hide the caller screen"
5. So, when it rings, you have to use the slider to unlock the screen, and then you have the sense slider (up to decline, down to answer)
This prevents to answer and gives you extra options when locked..
Hope this help.
Greets
I have gone back o Launcher Pro Plus and now instead of the htc sence slider for incoming call I get a green answer and red decline button to press.
It seems better to me but might not suit everyone.
I decided to switch back to Sence to see how things stood.
Low and behold I still have the same answer screen as I had with L.P. full screen, caller ID, and the two buttons red/green.
Don't know what I did wrong but I am glad I did.
I searched a few hours for a solution of this problem and finally found one i will try now.
The App I installed is called HD Caller ID and is free.
So for you, looking for a solution try this App. Maybe it´s good for your belongings.

Stable (Verizon) Tablet mode?

Can someone please point me to a ROM or mod that enables a stable, usable Tablet mode on my verizon galaxy nexus?

Stick with 241 and you will be good to go. If you use something like NovaLauncher you can essentially get a nice tablet like UI going.

SystemUI crashes because you have navigation bar enabled (which tablets don't have). You can modify your framework-res.apk to hide the navigation bar (thread HERE) and use something like LMT launcher or button savior to get home/back/etc. keys. Then it won't crash anymore. I've done this and it works fine. If you are on the 4.0.4 verizon ROM, you can find the modified framework in the thread HERE (and you can find simple instructions to do it yourself) or flashable HERE.
Alternatively, I've read (but not tested) that adding the following to your build.prop will stop it from crashing at 160 dpi.
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1

I gave you your answer. Read my previous post. You just need to hide the navigation bar. I messed around with it on my phone running verizon 4.0.4 by just making the required change to framework-res.apk and changing the screen density to 160 dpi. It's simple and you don't need to be a 'developer'. You ask for help, but don't give any specifics on what ROM version you have. I linked you to 4.0.4 version. If you're not using that verizon ROM, post your framework-res.apk and I'll mod it for you. It literally takes about 2 minutes to do (counting the time to upload it as an attachment here).

I'm pretty sure aokp has the ability to hide the navigation bar already. Look through the settings. Hide it and then switch to 160 dpi.

Thanks for all the help.
I finally got it working on my own.
One thing that remains and it's a biggie. I can't make or receive calls. The phone app crashes every time.
I did a lot of google searches and all the other devs are stuck at the same point.
However, I did find one dev in the Galaxy Note forums that made a ROM that supposedly works in tablet mode.
Any ideas?

Yeah unfortunately I haven't seen anything yet that forces the buttons onto the bottom. The likely reason for this is that the buttons would take up .25-.5 inch of screen real estate in landscape which would not be desirable at all.
I got it to work.
Here is what I had to do.
- Hide the nav bar using AOKP (builds 25 - 27 work)
- Change my dpi to 192 or less
-- This brought out the tablet interface (menu buttons on lower left). Notifications and time on the lower right etc
- Phone app would keep on crashing and I was unable to make or receive calls
-- Fixed this by downloading AOKP build 27 phone.apk for the HTC Incredible and replaced the phone.apk on my nexus. The reason why the phone app would crash was because of the dpi, so I had to find a lower dpi phone.apk.
Was then able to use all the basic functions of my phone including the market. However, the entire thing seemed a unstable (would have rom manager or systemUI crash randomly).
I'm giving it up for now. Hopefully some dev will see the value in getting this working and create a complete ICS rom for it.

I figured out that 180 dpi is the lowest you can go and not have the phone app crash. The launcher lags when running landscape though.

on the stock firmware, if you tap the contact - it opens up another page with information about that contact...
is there anyway to disable this feature on cm11
