Landscape dialer? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi I was wondering if any of the roms you guys know about have a landscape dialer or is there a way to add one into any rom?
I use my phone for satnav a lot and at the moment when i get a call it changes the orientation to portrait which is annoying.

hello @all!
Any solution for this problem?

The dailer does support landscape, though: if you are in portrait and switch to landscape, the dailer is OK.
Does anyone know a way to make the dailer come up OK in landscape?

Same problem for ages here. I tried to get advice several times here, but it seems, that noone is using xperia in this usecase. Only working solution is a ROM having Rhodium dialer (and it seems, that it must be correct version of the dialer or correct combination with winmo version) - I was using EnergyROM which was working excellent this way, until October builds. I tried to find another rom, but everyone out there has the problem (except original X1 dialer of course). Now I'm using 826x non-htc rom, which has also rhodium dialer and landscape is working fine.
hope this helps

Well i've got the cure. Not sure about puting it into a rom thought.
I have the verizon thunderbolt.
So this is the only phone i've tested it on.
You can get the car home ultra licence app.
The link below is for the free one. Not sure if it has the option but the paid one does.
Hint:try 4shared.com
The one with the litte red car as the icon shortcut.
Inside this app's options it has a check box to turn on car home
which came with the phone. It acts like you put it into a car dock from verizon.
And guess what the dialer is now landscape. So when you use this app
when your driving you can put a shortcuts on the app to call or open the phone.
It is in LANDSCAPE. It took me since the phone came out till today to find this
to work. Hope this helps anybody with a thunderbolt. and i bet other androids too.

Landscape on the HD, how?

Hey everyone,
i just wanted to know, how can i make the HD's screen go Landscape whenever i want to?
tnx
Hi,install HD tweak, activate rotation screen ( 17.8) and choose left softkeys to rotate the screen . Otherwise you can use, gsen, gyrator, mobile magic to choose which application you want to rotate .
Thank you very much Marcdu81!!
But . . . Manila look like rubbish in landscape. Unless you have the newer version installed. Dutty 1.8 & 1.9 contain it. and the newer ROMs by more cooks have it in newest products. But the problem is, although it is faster, works in landscape and has a nice calendar tab, most mods and tweaks for the older Manila don't work for it; including like color topbar, 15 tabs, icons and backgroundforallpages don't work. So for time being its a mixed blessing. But give it a bit of time New versions of all the old tweaks and mods will be available eventually.
Hey
when i prees the option to rotate the screen to landscape mode, it works great, but after i get out of the "Settings" screen it goes back to portrate mode...
why is that?
is it any related to the device Rom?
the Rom version i have is 1.19.831.0
i dont know what Dutty Roms are...\=
thanks for your answers!
Hi, can somebody help me to answer my question?
I like to have a landscape theme (mode), but I don´t know how to do it.
I´ve heard, that there is no way to get a landscape unless I flash my phone to another rom, what I actually don´t want, because the phone is still under garanty.
Is it true or does it gives another way to get a landscape?
I would like this too, going landscape without having to install a new ROM or something.
I use AEB+ to map the OK button to rotate 90 degrees (and back) so with a double press on that key I get rotate whenever I want. I did not want an automatic rotate like with gyrator.
AEB+ is shareware but the non-registered works great and has almost 100% functionality:
http://ae.inc.ru
Thx for your Info,
but the rotation is not a propblem it´s an secondary issue.
I can rotate my screen, but than I will get just the half of the screen, means only the clock on the left side and on the other half side I don´t get anything.
So, the question is, is it possible to get a "theme" or a cab of "manilas" to have the possibility to change the screen with a nice view, without to change the rom?

[WORKAROUND]How to prevent HTC Dialer from rotating to portrait

Hello guys and girls
I have a problem with a HTC Dialer in all the WM6.5 ROMs.
I am a Rhodium user and sometimes I use Landscape mode even with my keyboard detached. I have a Navi Software called AutoMapa which automatically rotates the screen to Lanscape to fit the in-car use.
And every app I am running by the time AutoMapa is on, appears in Landscape mode. But unfortunately when I press the SendKey to call somebody (or if somebody calls me) the dialer always appears in Portrait mode forcing the screen to rotate to Portrait mode as well.
This is annoying because later I have to manually turn the screen again to landscape in order for further navigation.
Is there any way to prevent the dialer from appearing always in Portrait?
To be clear: I don't want the Dialer app to follow the G-Sensor. I already tried to add the cprog.exe to the G-Sensor lists, but the effect is that the dialer appears in Portrait, turns itself to Landscape for a moment, and then turns to Portrait again making it impossible to answer a call. The side effect is that when somebody calls me when my phone is in the pocket (out of the car) I can see the caller in many different screen modes depending on how I take the phone from the pocket.
So what I want is that the Dialer should follow the current screen mode no matter if it's Landscape or Portrait instead of bringing whole system to Portrait.
This problem occurs in every WM6.5 ROM starting from Rhodium stock 2.07 through all the cooked SE ROMs I tested.
I write about it here and not in the Rhodium forum because the same effect is present for LEO and Topaz according to my friends' information. So it is either a matter of the Dialer itself or perhaps there is some mode selection list in the registry (similar to the G-Sensor list) where some of the applications are mentioned together with their default mode...
I am not the guru if about the registry so please take a look in my problem.
Thanks in advance

PS2. The workaround is presented in post #13
Hello again,
I would like to ask a Moderator to move this thread to Questions and Answers, as maybe there will be somebody able to help me. It's making me mad to have to rotate the screen every time I want to call somebody...

Thanks, althoug I have Rhodium, but the same issue (perhaps this is not actually an issue for everybody) exists in Topaz and LEO according to my friend's information. That's the only reason I posted my question in the general part.
Thus I searched a lot around here and google, I didn't seem to find anything about the dialer problem...
anybody?
Perhaps I should ask this question in yet another forum part? Any suggestions would be welcome...
Absolutely no one knows the answer to this question.
It shouldn't be that hard.
My rhodium dialer supports landscape and portrait but rotates the screen to portrait when the phone is in landscape.
(using 826x rom)
Confirm that the problem exists, any help from the xda experts would be highly welcome
Luckily for me, the developers of the navigation software I use (AutoMapa) redesigned the newest interface and now when I start the software in Landscape and then minimize it (i.e. because of an incoming call), the app detects the screen orientation when brought to "front" again and turns accordingly. It takes very long time though...
But it's only a workaround not a solution.

Did you try to experiment a bit with the registry settings corresponding to the dialer?
EDIT: I guess that this "return to landscape" is hardcoded in .dll's, but who knows? It's worth a try.
Hell yeah... I spent many hours on that. But it's also possible that I didn't know where to look. That's why I posted this thread...
BTW, In your Hybrid ROM v6 there was no problem. And I remember that the dialer looked like in S1 (WM6.5) stock ROM, is it possible it actually was an S1 dialer?
Edit: Please note that the dialer does not return the screen to portrait when the hardware keyboard is extended.

Nope. Those are totally different builds (but same version).
S0 (stock WM6.1) = PhoneCanvas 3.50.34796
S1 (stock WM6.5) = PhoneCanvas 3.50.36045
S2 (stock WM6.5 2nd generation) = PhoneCanvasEnhancement 4.2.51720
PS Did you look at
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\PHONE]
"ViewMode"=dword:00000001
?

I don't remember but I just did. Both "0" and "1" don't make any difference. I don't know if there are any other values for this key.
Well, if somebody is still interested I have found a workaround (not a solution) to the problem with rotating dialer.
Apparently when we activate the new HTC dialer, first of all it checks in registry if the hardware keyboard is open (at least for Raphael and Rhodium) and then if it discovered that the keyboard is closed, it triggers the screen back to portrait mode.
The "test" reg entry is
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Keypad:IsSlideOut
"0" means the keyboard is closed,
"1" means the keyboard is opened.
Now I wrote a little app which is nothing more than a simple screen rotate toggler, but when it turns the screen to Landscape it writes "1" to the above registry value and therefore "cheats" the system that the keyboard is open (of course when run again, it sets the vaule back to "0").
When I use this app to rotate my screen to Landscape, the dialer doesn't switch back to portrait anymore. I have mapped this file to my hardware Send key and use this every time I want to change the orientation without actually sliding the keyboard (for instance in my car).
I didn't notice any side effects of this "cheat". The SIP in Landscape is triggered by different reg key
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\Rotation:SlideKey
and the keyboard backlight is controlled in yet another place.
Feel free to test it and post your comments...

Landscape as default orientation?

Is there some kind of cvar/mod/hack/.. to change the default orientation from portait to landscape?
In AOSP only ofc.
no ideas about that? :/
You could try putting your phone into landscape then turning orientation off.
That is the only easy way I know of to keep it that way, if you use a widget then you can easily turn it back on when you want to change back.
it goes back to porttrait immediately when disabling auto-rotate. (via a homescreen widget)
any further ideas?
shouldnt there be a way to do so since the motorola droid has everything in landscape when hw-keyboard is open?
can some dev please give his opinion on this please?
just wanted to add that after trying landscape mode for a while, I think it would be annoying as the default or only layout option since it requires two hands pretty much for even the most simple use.
portrait allows thumb (if you're talented) or index finger (if you're flexible) single handed tapping usage.
i prefer landscape mode in all situations. i always hold my hero sideways but dont want to wait like 2 sec for it to turn around.
so again, is there a way for doing this?

since the silence here is suggesting that no developers are going to (or are able to) help you out, I suggest you try playing with the slide rom that has sense rotation enabled.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666640
it's not perfect, cant' record video, some issues that eventually always make me want to switch back (notably if you use exchange the contact list doesn't join contacts from exchagne email, gmail email, and active directory email... but it should and does in non-slide roms).
But it has the fastest launcher screen rotation of any hero rom I've used, faster than vanilla + launcherpro and far more stable in how it senses screen rotation. it's a sense rom that is actually designed to work as well landscape as portrait.
it doesn't rotate instantly, but it's noticeably faster turning (for me using only it's built in array of sense widgets) if you want to use horizontal layout. And it stays in place better - you know how annoying it is when launcherpro has rotation enabled and you move your phone a bit and suddenly it's redrawing sideways for the next 6 seconds... well I haven't found that to be much of an issue in that slide rom.
There are still a couple of parts that dumbly don't rotate, or at least not in the default settings I tried (contacts for example and settings are I think still portrait - stupid mistakes on HTC's part).
If you nandroid first or bart first if you use an ext partition then you have no worries in flashing the above rom to at least give it a try.
This is one area where the new iphone seems to win out I'm afraid - it's launcher screen rotation is really nice, animated, quick, stable and very useful.
Dammit LoL
good luck, post your findings please!
thank you for your effort but that rom you suggested does not meet my requirements and i cant say that i like the modified rosie that is used here. :/

that's fair
At least I tried
If an actual rom developer had a solution for you it would be more interesting!
have you considered talking to one of the 3rd party launcher developers? such as the guy who makes launcherpro, the adw guy(s), and so on?
Maybe that is where your solution lies?
That combined with maybe talking to one of the cyanogenmod developers themselves (who aren't hero-specific, you'd have to google their home website)?
Cyanogenmod might be able to add an option for 90 degree rotation only (with no zero degree switching). or at least show you how to change it yourself.
Good luck!

[Q] Phone (not dialer) app in landscape?

I apologize if there are threads about this; I searched but did not find anything.
I recently got the official car dock for the Evo. I'm really happy with it, and how with CM6 almost everything rotates into landscape.
The major exception to this seems to to be the phone application (like during a call) - the dialer does change orientation properly.
Is anyone aware of any sort of fix to make the phone application change its orientation? It's pretty annoying that it stays in portrait and is sideways.
Thanks!
Like many others I use Dialer One because it looks cool AND you can search contact names by typing on the keypad, which you cannot do with the AOSP dialer.
Another benefit of Dialer One?? Yes, it rotates
When you place a phone call with Dialer One, does that show in landscape, or is it still portrait only?

Sorry man, I misunderstood (despite you being very specific about it)
The dialer does landscape but as soo as it starts the call the phone app opens and reverts to portrait
No worries. That's what I figured. It seems like there isn't any way, that I can find at least, to get the phone app to show in landscape. I have to admit I find it a bit odd, seeing as most other apps have no issues. Oh well...

Jelly Bean 4.3 dialer for Kitkat(4.4)

Hi, I have update the my nuxus 4 to Kitkat(4.4) but I am very much disappointed with new dialer, Can any one have the old 4.3 dialer?? Please share me..
Thanks,
Bhaskar
+1, every time I try to swipe to awap screens it deletes my favorites.
Also need it for a friend...If i pull it from factory image will be working??
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
4.4 dialer sucks
That's why I went back to 4.3.
It really sux!
Agree with you.
Installing apk from jelly bean will fail as it has lower version (and it might be not the only reason).
Maybe some can grab sources from JB Dialer/Contacts app and change it's ID so Android will install it aside with original dialer as separate app painless?
:highfive:
it's just a matter of time till you get used to it, JB's dialer was and is outdated, the new one is a total improvement and you'll learn to like it like all of us did :fingers-crossed:
Why do you want the old dialer? If you have the same problem with it as me, I might have a workaround.
I hate that it doesnt show the dialer itself, I just want to open the app, press a few numbers and call a person. For this, someone made an Xposed module called Show Dialpad which will show the dialpad the moment you open the app. Now I don't mind using the new dialer anymore

Do you know how or if we can get landscape in the new dialler? With the 4.3 one, the dialler automatically switched to landscape when docked in the car, which the Kitkat one doesn't seem to do.

Xposed App Settings can also do that. Go to App Settings > Dialer, turn the switch on and in orientation, change (default) into Normal Rotation.

Thanks and yes I am already using that Xposed mod just to get some degree of landscape as unfortunately it doesn't give a 'proper' landscape mode. It just expands/compresses the portrait screen into landscape. So for example, the dialpad becomes almost unusable with the rows of numbers overlapping etc. On the 4.3 dialler, when docked, it brought up a properly formatted landscape mode, with the caller image on the left, and buttons on the right.

You can install Contacts+ from the play store. I would say it is a nice dialer to replace the stock.

If you need more information about it here is the thread.

Thanks. This certainly helps, but the one thing we're missing is the in-call landscape. Unfortunately due to the way Android works, it seems as if no other dialler can be used for the actual in-call functionality other than stock.
