Hi
Well I have this dreamgear desktop dock for my MOTO X...its a bit pricey but I like it...you can check out....
may be you find it better somewhere....
I have the official docks. I like them quite a bit.
Sent from my XT1058 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Ive been checking Moto's website but they are still out of stock. I want a desk cradle.
I don't know if it's true or not but I saw someone say that they discontinued the official docks. I had one and to be honest it really wasn't that good, nothing about it made it really work well for the moto x it was the same as any universal dock.
Do active notifications work on the dock? I know that daydream takes over, but then what happens with notifications? Thanks!
Sent from my Rezound using Tapatalk
I have the Griffin "official" dock and it's not worth $30. It works find with the SUPCASE but I find the phone too easily rocked back and forth when docked. The dock feels like something you would buy off Ebay for $5 w free shipping from China. Okay maybe not that cheap but you get the idea. Daydream works well. Haven't noticed any notifications though. I don't think any come across when in daydream.
Edit: By default when you put the phone in the griffin dock and daydream activates there are no active notifications displayed. I only see the clock on the screen with the notification sound. If I tap on the screen it makes daydream go away and the screen goes black. Once I do that, new active notifications start showing up. I haven't tried anything else since I like daydream and prefer that mode when docked.
The only thing I miss on my Moto X is the wireless charging my Nexus had. A nice dock would go a long way to address that, but this ain't the one. It really looks out of place, and if it disables notifications (even temporarily) what's the point.
I am hopeful we'll see a nice 3rd party offering, but I'm not betting the farm on it.
Does anyone know what the Moto X is using to go into dock mode? I have both the Motorola Flip stand with smart cable, and the droid 3 dock, both which put my Droid M into dock mode, but have no effect on the Moto X. I would like to be able to use it as a nightstand clock, like I do with my M.
Thanks,

Perhaps a dumb question in a thread about docks.. But does anyone know what case that is in the second pic??

Some one posted that magnets are used. He found it out because a paper clip stuck to the dock.

Yes! The answer is magnet. Since droid motorola use this technology. One same magnet could activate car mode or desk mode. It's just invert poles.

I don't know if anyone cares, but I'm using the same dock for my Moto X that I was using for my Galaxy note 2. You can find a link here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dual-USB-Da...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item1c308b96cc
I'm also using the Anker case here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EDHXD3C/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and it docks and charges just fine. It doesn't register as a dock though, but daydream works, and makes this the perfect bedside companion. For $5 bucks, its totally worth it.

The stand looks good for 5 bucks! (Actually $7.50 now) Do I just plug in the standard usb power connector?

Yup. That's it. Nothing fancy or major. It just works! Let me know how you like it.
I bought the griffin one and this one from ebay. We'll see which one is better. I need a dock that I can use in the dark is why.

Thanks, I guess I'll need to be a bit creative if I don't want to purchase another dock. I wouldn't mind if there was one that held the phone in the horizontal direction (landscape), so the clock numbers are large. But so far, since the power button is on the bottom, they all hold it vertically.

Take a look at this http://www.ibolt.co/ibu-33405
I've ordered one. It has power supply and holds the phone horizontally and vertically. I'll put a magnet inside of it trying to trigger car mode.
This will be my solution for car mode. For desk you can try http://www.ibolt.co/ibmhl-33200. It holds horizontally. But I don't know if you can put a magnet inside of it.

It has just charging and audio out. Putting the phone in the dock turn it in night mode (that for me is "night display" of Gentle Alarm).
seems a bit pricey though - has anyone seen them cheaper ? or something similar ?
Is audio out coming from the usb port or is it streamed over bluetooth much like the Nexus?

Does anyone know how the phone knows it's in the dock? I know the Motorola Milestone (that I switched from to the S2) had magnets in it to detect the car dock or the desk dock. I fancy having a go at mocking up a dock that the phone will actually recognise until there's a bit more choice on the market to buy a "real" one..
Cheers,
KEv.

Yeah, now the OP's was Landscape and this one is portrait. I use(d) my HD2 in its portrait holder and it was ok but most photo's were in landscape so the screen was not really used (I used KSlide to turn it into a digital photo frame whilst on my desk).
A landscape one would be great!
has anyone found any of the official cradles for sale ?
all i can find are some pretty horrible examples on ebay ...

Lol yeah right! If you lay it on its side.... just like every other dock!
the side edges, that become the bottom edge when it's on it's side, are angled backwards/inwards... so if you put it on it's side it reclines slightly to give you a decent viewing angle. Not seen any other docks with that design... still, I'll have to have a long hard talk with myself before I allow myself to spend £40 on it!
Anyone know if the sticky universal stands, like the Desk Genie or Desk Magic Smart, work with the textured back and bottom-bump of the S2?
Official Charger?
It *looks* like this might also hold the phone in landscape. If you look at the close up of the dock "U" slot, it doesn't appear to directly plug into the phone i.e. a USB connector. If so, then it will probably hold the phone landscape

am i right in saying that this is just a stand rather than a charger ? it charges a spare battery rather than the phone itself ?
Sadly yes.
Yeah it looks kind of odd but maybe they have thought about the health of the battery?
Not good to have it always 100% so maybe a good solution in a office?
does anyone know if this would trigger the dock mode on the SGS2 ?
is there any other advantage to the official dock over the crappy ones you get on auction sites ?
bump... does anyone know if the cradle's or spare batteries sold on Ebay for about $20-30 will work (i.e. not ruin) the SGS2?

I got two batteries off ebay for about £6 (which I think is $9 monopoly dollars?). Why would they "ruin" the SGS2? I also got one of the slimline, up-right cradles and its been working fine.
Still 1/2 off on the official motorola site. Says 59.99 until you add to cart. Ended up $36 with tax and shipping. I'll post thoughts when it arrives.

Got mine from Amazon about a month ago for about $35 shipped overnight.
LOVE.IT.
I run Car Home Ultra and Mort Player for music. Sweet.
Especially nice if you use high-quality MP3s and have a decent head unit. Couple of weeks of non-repeating tunes to carry with me.
Jamming along on the highway and the music softly ramps down to mute when a call comes in ... then unmutes when they hang up.
Sound through the speakers is amazing (use GOOD cables.)
Oh, and get a nice 2.1A USB socket (I like Satechi.)
I have just received my car dock today after ordering it from amazon (uk).
The dock itself is easy to assemble and you have the option of either attaching it to the windscreen or there is an enclosed disc which you can stick on your dashboard and then attach the car dock assembly.
There are two usb cables suppiled (one LONG and the other short) and the long one has an audio adapter joined onto it at the base. There is also a usb charger included.
My phone has a mesh cover and, leaving out an included spacer, I am able to fit the phone into the dock without having to take the cover off.
I have had a quick try out whilst driving and it is an enjoyable experience and that is with using the motorola 'car' app.
This is the first time I have had a car dock and I would recomend this item.
Just a heads up to all you new car dock owners: sure, you could use the window mount and that plastic mount for the dashboard.
But, if you wanted to, you could also use this following product that lets you use the car dock in your vehicle's air vents:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015A6YN6/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_us?ie=UTF8
If you use this adaptor for the air vents, it'll also help in keeping your phone cool while it's on the dock, especially on those hot days where having it on the windshield mount exposes it to the sun's heat even more so.
I've been using this for months now and it works very well and fits the car dock as if it were made for it.
Enjoy!
Love this dock, but it overheats in summer. Also it loses suction occasionally... might break the screen on my transmission stick.

I'm just responding to your overheating/suction issues by saying "you can solve both of those issues by doing this:...".
but if you don't want to put your phone near the vents, that's fine, too.
Just read the post about the vent clip. Looks sweet. Got out for $2.59 shipped on Ebay.

Simple packaging. Sent via Air from HK.
This is what is inside the package. Note that the extra plastic thing is originally attached to the dock as a buffer to ensure that phones without cases are held firmly. If you are using the dock with a case, you remove that. It is quite easy to remove. Just pull it forwards towards you (not upwards). Comes off easily.
My One X with its Nilkin case being held in the dock.
It has quite a huge bump at the back. This is where the cable is connected. USB cable is provided.
The One X w/ Case plugged into the Dock which in turn is plugged into a MHL to a Dell U3011 monitor.

It really is a great dock, I just got mine today from a UK seller for £10, 2 days late mind you because I forgot to change the address at checkout... Phone fits perfectly and it's actually cheaper than some of the far worse quality docks I've seen around. Usually I worry about scratching the body with the connector but the phone finds its way beautifully.
Just curious, does it activate desk dock mode on its own?
It doesn't activate dock mode. I'm guessing the things that will activate dock mode are those that connect via the pogo pins.
How do you get the dock mode up? is there an app in play store?

I have a HC C704 case, and as lovely as it is it's too big for this cradle with the buffer on and is loose with the buffer off, so if you're buying this cradle and case be aware you'll have to have a loose wonky phone or prop it up with a bit of blutak or something.

Yes.
There are 2 versions of this dock. One with built in HDMI and one without.
I didn't buy the HDMI version because I had my own MHL.
So the HDMI version (or mine with an attached MHL) can connect to your TV/Monitor/etc via HDMI.

I've just received the kidigi car dock from China for £25.
This thing is brilliant both in build quality and in looks.
It's held firmly to the windscreen with a sucker that has a lever to grip and release it from the glass.
The included charger shows as ac in power menu and actually charges the phone whilst with GPS,screen and Bluetooth on.
It even holds the phone with the case left on!!!

When you put the phone in the dock it automatically goes into car mode(this can be disabled in the app).
There are finger nuts on the arm of the dock so it can be adjusted to the right angle.
the phone is held secure with no vibration.
I couldn't recommend this more.

Already took the plunge and ordered one of these myself before reading this review. Got mine from a different seller for £22.58. How thick is your case? I've got a firm gel one that is probably 2mm thick (its great btw already dropped it and it bounced nicely cushioning the blow). I am just concerned that it may be a bit too fat for the cradle.
The dock comes with a detachable holder look carefully at the photo you can see a black square hole where it clips in which I have removed. it will fit normal size or with a case. My case is plastic and about 2mm thick all round so you will be fine .it looks like theres enough room for a case to be a bit thicker and still fit
If you got the cheaper sellers link ill put it in the op

Can this be used in combination with a air vent mount holder?
Have somebody a pic from the back?

Don't seem to have this problem. Tried both ways and it was charging AC both times. I didn't use the bundled power cable though because I already have a HTC cable that is stretched across the dashboard so I didn't see the point in stretching another cable.
A simply excellent car mount. Fits wonderfully with the case on and feels very secure.
Has anyone got the version with built in handsfree?
I'm thinking of ordering one but would want the audio out for music. kidigi's site http://www.kidigi.com/product_lv2.php?pid=1378 lists it as having a 2.5mm headphone jack but i wanted to know if it was stero or mono before i forked out ~£35.
Anyone know?
look great thanks man
Can anybody confirm whether the mounting on the back of the Kidigi car dock is a standard Herbert Rickter fitting?
So to start, has anyone found a such for this tab!?
Second any one know anything about official accessories coming or not?

I've spent hours Googling different dock solutions and never saw that one. Looking forward to your review!

I backed this one when it was still on Kickstarter. Should have it in the next week or two.

A little pricey but like the idea that I can easily swap cable as I switch devices / upgrade. They claim this should be the last dock anyone would ever need to buy. Will post review once I receive it. Picked one up for myself and my daughters.

Intrigued, the dock looks very small, would it really support an ipad?
Supposed to anyway. Will let you know in a few weeks. Have ordered a few for myself and daughters. Have a few iPads that I can test it with.

I actually have one of these for my S3. I did try it out when I first got my G Pad (haven't had it long). One thing to note though, the dock is rated at .500 amps and not the 2 amps that the G Pad needs. I got this from the label on the bottom of the dock. The dock does not come with a charging brick so I used the LG one (~2 amp). My G Pad charged to 100%. I opened up the dock and there is a small circuit board that has the micro usb and sound connector. I couldn't see if there were any active components that would limit the current.
I later had problems with the G Pad powering up but think this was caused from the sd card I was using. I'll play around with it more and let you know how I make out.
BTW..it's not the most stablest dock for th G Pad. I think it is more for phones. I would actually like to find a horizontal dock.
Thanks for the update. If it doesn't work for my g pad 8.3 I can always use it for my galaxy s3. It looks like it is over 4" wide. Hopefully it will be reasonably stable.

I'd be interested in this as well. Especially a dock with a built in speaker.
I've got two of these and they're great. Lisa from Mobiletechreview.com uses these. They work with my Gnote10.1, Razr Maxx, Nexus 7, and now the G Pad. You can also order them on Amazon.

Stand/Docks
I was thinking about this as a stand...pretty cheap
http://www.amazon.com/Multi-Angle-E-readers-Smartphones-Compatible-Transformer/dp/B00D856NOG/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t
or this for travel

I ordered this on sale today from Amazon/Brookstone. I plan on using it at the office.

I have that one, I'm using it right now. I got it for travel, but use it at home, too. Works great and very compact.
This is what I am using. It is a folding stand, not a dock but very portable and adjustable (plus its very cheap)

Depending on your device, there is a groove on the bottom to route a USB cable. It's not custom. Just a big stump of heavy rubber that works.

sure would be nice to see a dock that added a full sized usb port.. or two. just sayin.
Got this cheap iHome dock at Best Buy
I was browsing Best Buy and found this iHome stand in the clearance section, marked down to $23.00 (Regular retail is $40)

Amazon link.
I offered the blue-shirt $15.00, and he said sure.
It seems to charge the tablet well enough. Because the USB charging port sticks up from the cradle, the G Pad does not sit flat into the dock. Instead, it can rock a bit on the charger.
I have not used the built-in speakers and assume they are horrible.
It bought it as a lark, doubtful that it would work. But now I use it every night to charge up my tablet. It's ugly and clunky, but works just fine.
I've been using this stand
http://www.ebay.com/itm/290908700787?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I use this and it works fine. Simple and just use the OOB charging cable as I have it in landscape anyway.

I just received this one and it is perfect. It's the same width as the G pad. It has a blue LED.
