Requirements:
Follow the simple instructions here.
You MUST be rooted
You should be running a custom recovery like ClockWorkMod Recovery (CWM) or Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP). I use CWM, so this guide is based on that.
Your device must be using ARMv7 CPU architecture. If you aren't sure what that is, check this thread.
You must have a file explorer that has root permissions. I use ES File Explorer, so this guide is based on that.
You need at least 60MB of system space for the full offline installation. (30MB for online only version) If you don't know how to check, simply download Titanium Backup from the market. It tells you right on the main screen.
If you are not a noob and know what to do already, please skip this. The permissions are listed at the bottom for easy reference, should you need them.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Download whichever zip you want. If you need to save /system space, download the the smaller, online-only package, otherwise get the normal one for the full experience. There is also a version of each which removes the "double-take" condition of the app. This is where it loads the results twice. The one that loads the results twice formats search results properly on the first try, but does not auto launch some cards. The non-double-take version may not format some search results properly, but auto launches tasks such as navigation and texting. Choose whichever one you prefer. If you have questions, please don't quote this entire post. Simply edit out the part you have a question about.
Update: Each version listed has the full version and the Offline only version. Pick the one you want and flash it. If you aren't sure which one to use, or if this is too much information or is otherwise overwhelming for you, just flash the M7 version - Offline/Online, since it's the latest. Be sure to scroll down a bit and read about it, though.
Before doing anything, you need to make sure you have at least 60MB of free space on your /system partition for Offline/Online files and 30MB of free /system space for Online Only files.
Flashable ZIPs
[*]M7 - mikeyxda's version 7. This version improves on M6 by tweaking notifications to be more accurate and frequent. This version may use more battery. If you are using a Sense ROM, see the troubleshooting below for a hack to improve Google Now performance and battery efficiency.

Online Only via Mediafire - 14.06MB /Hotfile mirror
M7 Update - 3.97MB /Hotfile mirror
M7-Velvet.apk Only
[*]Inverted M7 - This is identical to the M7 files from above, except the colors are inverted, so that it has a black background instead of white, and white text instead of black. If you already have Google Now flashed, you can simply perform the update to this version.

Online Only via Mediafire - 14.04MB /Hotfile mirror
Inverted M7 Update - 4.30MB /Hotfile mirror

[*]M6 - Mikeyxda's version 6. This version has improved on the previous one by fixing the double take problem, typed searches are working, auto launch is fixed, as well as the following fixes from the previous version: Red mic with cards showing with no refresh needed, no FCs, offline dictation, and no stretched words. These zips all use zipalligned apks.

R3 Update - 3.97MB /Hotfile mirror

How to:
- Move the file you picked to the root of your SD card. Don't put it in any folder. This just makes it easier to find.
- Reboot your device into recovery. See your device's specific instructions on how to do this if you are not sure. Google it for a faster answer.
- In CWM, navigate to "Install zip from SD" and select that.
- Next, highlight "Choose zip from SD card" and select it.
- Scroll down to the Google Now zip you loaded onto your SD card, then select it.
- Scroll down and select the option that says "Yes - Install Google Now....zip"
- Once it has flashed, go back to the main CWM menu and select "Reboot system now".
Double Checking:
- Let the ROM boot all the way, then fire up ES File Explorer (or whichever one you feel like using). We need to make sure a few permissions stuck (just in case).
- If you haven't used ES File Explorer before, open it, then hit menu.
Tap settings, then scroll all the way down.
Check the box that says "Up to Root" (pic).
Then check the box that says "Root Explorer"
Allow root access when the dialogue box for Superuser pops up.
After that, check off "Mount file system", then back out of the menu. (pic)
- Navigate to /system/usr/srec/ and find two folders named "config" and "en-US"
- Tap and hold on the "config" folder icon to bring up the options menu, then scroll down to Properties.
- Tap properties, then tap change and see if the check boxes match this picture.
- If it matches, leave it alone and head back to your home screen to enjoy using Google Now! If it doesn't match, change it so it does.
- Do the same thing for the "en-US" folder.
- Go into the settings menu for Google Now and set it up for your Google account and various other settings.
Now What?
So, you flashed Google Now. You're wondering what you can do with it, right? Well, thankfully, Killer-B has a handy little guide to get you up to speed on all the cool stuff Google Now can do as well as how to do it!
Commands & Now Cards For Google Now!!! Now Video, and custom widget
Troubleshooting
1.) The red mic screen won't display.
To fix this, press the normal mic within the Google Now app. While it is listening (after it beeps), press menu > refresh. Now you're at the red mic.
2.) Can't exit the Google Now app with the back button.
Use the Home button.
3.) Google Now Force Closes.
Make sure you have enough space on your /system partition before installing this. You need at least 60MB free for the Offline versions and 30MB free for the Online versions.
4.) Sports cards aren't showing up.
It won't add teams that aren't in season. American football is currently in preseason. Baseball, however, works perfectly fine.
5.) I want Google Now in another language than US English.
From the Google Now home screen with the cards, tap Menu, then Settings. Tap Voice, then Language and select the language you want recognized. The text of Google Now in searches and regular cards should mirror that of your system language.
6.) My phone exploded.
Have a muffin.
If, for some reason, you want to remove Google Now and return to how you were before, flash the following zip. It removes all Google Now files, and returns the original Google Search app and voice files, as well as sets permissions for the Search app.
Google Now to Google Search via Mediafire- 629.35KB /Hotfile mirror

thanks.. but I mean is the "updateM7.zip" or others.. I downloaded it and there's a /system/app/velvet.apk what for it is? update for the M7?
In flashable zip contains velvet apk (google now itself) and many libs for it.

I think R3 (update) is not different with M7 (not updated), I always refresh to show more card and stuck on white screen, I flashed M7 2 weeks ago before R3 (from original thread)
and R3 I've got FC everytime I launched the app, so revert back to M7 + updated
thanks for sharing mate
umm... I found there are many guys has the problem. When he want to install a google play into an android phone bought from China, always failed.

1. Make sure your Ascend G330D rooted. This is must be request.
2.Find 2 or 3 apk:
a>GoogleServicesFramework(Check your phone via RE explorer)
b>GoogleLoginService
c>Google play store(lastest version is better)
3.Copy those 2 or 3 apps to your phone(Internal or Extend are ok)
4.Copy them into System/app via RE.explorer
5.Restart your phone.
6.You will find the Google play and now login with your google account.

So I solved my problem with the Xperia S LT26i Chinese:
I found the rom ITA LT26i_6.1.A.2.50_1257-5499_Generic_Italy.zip
and I installed it with flashtool
It was very simple
I did not understand if the device is rooted now
Now the device is fully Italian as if I had bought in my country
Ciao!
Changing file permissions was critical
Thanks for the information and the attachments xjarl!
This worked perfectly for me, but only after I changed the permissions on the 3 files! I bought a Coolpad (Yulong) 8022 with Android 2.3.7 in China through China Mobile. I rooted the phone but was unable to install Google Play until I found this post. I downloaded the attachment, extracted the files and copied the 3 APK files to my system/app folder and rebooted. After installing Google Play and running it, I could browse all the apps in the store but I could not download or install them. The progress bar didn't move.
So I launched Root Explorer and went to the system/app folder. Then I changed the permissions of the 3 APKs: GoogleServicesFramework.apk, GoogleLoginService.apk and Google_Play-v3.8.17.apk to rw-r--r-- to match all the other files in the folder and rebooted. Since then everything has been working fine! Now I can browse the App store and download and install files without a problem!
So, the steps I recommend are:
1. Root your phone.
2. Download the attachment above.
3. Extract GoogleServicesFramework.apk, GoogleLoginService.apk and Google_Play-v3.8.17.apk from the RAR file and copy them to the system/app folder on your phone with Root Explorer.
4. In Root Explorer click Mount R/W. Change the permissions of the 3 files to match the permissions of the other files in the folder (rw-r--r--). Then click Mount R/O and exit Root Explorer.
5. Reboot your phone.
6. Go to Accounts & Sync in your phone's settings, click Add account and enter your Google/GMail account details.
7. Go to your apps and Launch Google Play.
I'm guessing that this will work on any Android phone. Good luck!
Thanks for shared.
I get the same problems, but my phone use Spreadtrum CPU SC6820 and it very hard to root.
If not root then can use this solution?

Hi - I believe you will need to root your phone first - I used SuperOneClick to root my phone. I wish you good luck!
It is a very good solution and I tested in my China mobile Note2: GT-N7108 and it works fine.
Thank you very much.

Crashing
I hope someone can help me here. I have a Green Orange N1.
The first thing i tried was to simply install vending apk.
App was crashing before loading.
I tried this method and followed all steps
Root - adding 3 apk to system/app - set permissions- but no luck. Google play still crashes.
I tried also with different G Play versions and still i can't access the application.
Do you have any idea about other steps?

I got it working by downloading different versions of GoogleServicesFramework
i have found 3 versions on the first page searching for GoogleServicesFramework.apk on google
One of them was 2.3M not 4M and it worked. i have also downloaded different GoogleLoginService
Now all google apps work perfectly except for voice search... looks like it doesn't connect.
I can give commands and it keeps searching. don't know if it depends on the GoogleLoginService i installed.
My solution is probably messing up something.
It would be really nice to know which versions of Framework or LoginServices are available andhow to choose the right ones for 4.2 or 4.1.
hope someone can explain here

This kinda works with a bit of play around
These files are KING!!!!
This method works if you root your phone!
I rooted my phone(Samsung Galaxy S4) bought from China loaded with spam and bloatware. The phone by default has a whole load of crap installed into the system apps folder and can't be deleted unless rooted!!!
I rooted using:
Odin3 v3.07
cofface_I9500_cwm_recovery_en_new.tar
Google_play.rar
SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1_3_2300_0
System App Remover
Root Explorer
Step 1: Put phone in USB debugging mode in order for ODIN to successfully detect and install 'cofface_I9500_cwm_recovery_en_new.tar'
Step 2: Power phone on holding Volume Down, Menu Button and Power Button. (This put it in download mode)
Step 3: Plug phone into PC(Ensure USB drivers have been installed)
Step 4: Open ODIN
Step 5: Select PDA and locate 'cofface_I9500_cwm_recovery_en_new.tar'
Step 6: Click Start (Sit back it takes a few)
Step 7: Once completed immediately unplug battery before phone restarts.(This apparently ensures the CWM will root the phone for S4 new security)
Step 8: Power phone on using Volume Up, Menu Button and Power Button.
Step 9: Root phone option
Step 10: Install from SD card
Step 11: Select the CWM option
Step 12: Restart phone from the options
Step 13 : Super User app should now be installed on the phone
Step 14 : Given that you can't access google play you may need to download apps via pc or web browser on your mobile.
Step 15 : Download the following apps a) Root Explorer b) System App Remover.
Step 14 : Be smart and write down the names of the apps you need to remove and take note of the icons.
Step 15 : Delete what you can through System App Remover (Some will not delete through this app but you'll understand a little later)
Step 16 : Once you've deleted what you can, open Root explorer.
Step 17 : Copy the Google Play files (There are 3) into a directory you can find on your phone.
Step 18 : These files should be stored on SD in Root Explorer, Tap Hold and Move.
Step 19 : Go to System then Apps.
Step 20 : Paste and extract the folder.
Step 21 : Delete the remaining apps that System App Remover couldn't remove.( be careful deleting the wrong apps can be troublesome)
Step 22: NB!!!! Change the permissions on theses 3 apps to all permissions or your phone will keep bringing up alerts and freezing!!!!!
Step 23 : In any event copying the framework from another device you will be forced to do a Factory Reset to have it all fully functional!!!!
This worked for me. Thought I'd put the full list of instructions because it took me a few hours to gather all this info from a mix of sites.
All credit to everyone I resourced to finally get this working!!! This seems to have been an unresolved one on many sites with no tutorials for newbs.

This is a collection of tools and apps that I have produced to try to help users of Alliance ROM and various Kernels. Some of these apps may work for other ROMs or Kernels but I must stress that these will not have been tested.
Contents
My Apps - Apps or Flashable Zips that I have produced to address specific needs.
Guides - Guides I have produced to take you through fixes or modifications.
Other Stuff - Useful bits from others.
Bespoke Stuff - Custom stuff that is not Rom or Kernel specific.
Rom Share - Links to Mirrors I have set up for Roms I use with slow download speeds from their original host.
Other useful Links:
Alliance Thread
Alliance OTA Submission Thread
Rom Share - Mirror of ROMs and Kernels I use where the main link is very slow.
Adblock Hub - Some adblockers saved from the Play Store cull.
Apps
My Apps - These are Apps or Flashable Zips that I have created for Alliance Rom or a specific Kernel
SymlinkSD - App that runs on boot and Symliks the External SDCard as /mnt/sdcard - Only needed for Kernels that display this behaviour.
Reset Fuel Gauge - Function to rectify weird battery readings, code taken from Dori's kernel and turned into an app.
Tweaker - Allows you to toggle the following options on your phone if the installed Apps support it:
Camera Silent Menu Item
Disable auto convert SMS to MMS
Change the maximum number of contacts that can be joined to another contact
TogMods - Auto enables any Toggle Modifications you have made on reboot instead of having to make a change to enable them.
AccuWeather Widget - Flashable Zip for either Normal (with Background) or Transparent
LS Fix - Repairs Issue on some LS8 ROMs where the Lockscreen does not come up and a long press of the power button restarts the phone.
Stock Messaging no Convert and Sent Time - Stock Messaging app with the Convert to MMS function disabled and displayed times reflect the sent time not received time.
AOSP Themed Messaging no Convert and Sent Time - AOSP Themed Messaging app with the Convert to MMS function disabled and displayed times reflect the sent time not received time.
SilentCam - Camera app with Silent Option
CPU Idle - Allows user to specify the Scheduler used for CPU Idle for screen on and off as long as the Kernel supports it.
Crash Logger - Captures LastKmsg file automatically after an unexpected reboot. File is saved to SD and copied to Clipboard. Kernel must not have disabled Android Logging.
Boot Wifi - Automatically enables WiFi on Boot for ROMs or Kernels that deactivate WiFi on startup.
Auto Wifi - Automatically enables WiFi on Boot for ROMs or Kernels that deactivate WiFi on startup and renenables WiFi if it is enabled by the user and then immediately deactivated by the Kernel or Rom.
Cache Cleaner - Runs the Cache Clean feature from Dorimanx kernel as a stand alone application. Just run and that's it. It will show the Start Free Ram, End Free Ram and then close itself and remove from memory.
Rom Select - App for Dual Boot users to allow them to change Roms without waiting for STweaks to load first. Tested with Dorimanx, should work with Siyah as well.
The following Apps may no longer be required as they should be fixed.
Dori CamFix - Fixes problems with some CM and AOKP ROMS where the camera force closes when using Dorimanx Kernel.
Fake Notify - Fixes issue for users using AllianceROM where the Notification bar does not show up on boot.
Fake Notify Plus - Fixes issue for users using AllianceROM where the Notification bar does not show up on boot and also sometimes disappears during normal use at Random.
Crackle Stop - Automates TRB's method of fixing the problem of a crackling sound being produced along with notifications. Once installed run and you will need to grant SU access. You will then be presented with a Menu for your Normal 'Idle' mode, this should be the same as the awake idle mode set in STweaks, next you will be asked for an Alt Idle mode, this can be anything, just not the same as your normal mode.
Once set you will need to reboot for the fix to activate.
Once rebooted the app does what it needs to do over a 20 second period (not 20 seconds after the phone has booted as the app will probably be the last thing loaded - so to be safe I'd give it 2 or 3 minutes). You then need to let your phone get into Deep Sleep so leave it for a bit and then after that all should be OK.
Note this is not a one off fix, this process will run on each boot but you do not need to rerun the App unless you want to change the Normal Idle mode.
Guides
My Guides - These are useful Guides I have made to help with various ROM and Kernel Issues.
Swype LSx Fix - Problem where the Custom Dictionary stops working and saving new words when using Swype on LSx ROMS.
IMEI Recovery - Step by step guide on how to backup your IMEI and then how to recover should you need to. This an essential guide, as should you not be able to recover your IMEI your phone will become a very expensive Paper Weight.
Change System DPI Settings - Step by step settings to change the system DPI.
YouTube fix - How to fix the error signing in problem in YouTube.
Other Stuff - Useful bits from others
The Red Blur's Cave - The Red Blur's page of helpful hints and knowledge. Don't bother reporting a problem until you have checked here, this guy is the best resource for all things Galaxy S 2!
Dorimanx Kernel Discussion Thread - Discussion Thread for all things Dori, especially things that should not be posted in the Dev Thread.
HawkerPaul's ROM and Kernel Wipe / Nuke scripts - These scripts should be used before flashing new ROMs or Kernels to clear up all of the left behind bits from your old installation.
Stock Video Fix - Flashable fix for issues with the Stock Video Player Force Closing when opened from the App Drawer, usually only present with Dori and Siyah Kernels. Thanks TRB.
Auto Call Record Mod and Disable increasing Volume Mod - Mods for LSx based ROMs to enable Automatic Call Recording and disable Increasing Ringtone volume.
LSx Dual Boot Mod - Manual Mod to allow Dual Booting of Roms when one of them is LSx
Ficeto's Kernel - Flashable Zip of Alliance 6 and 7 stock kernel.
AC!D Audio Installer - For Alliance Rom
Instructions:
Download and flash through Recovery.
After flash Wipe Dalvik Cache and Fix Permissions
Once booted enter the following into a Terminal Prompt to test install:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
aaengine
You shouldn't need to run the above command, the install should do it but just to be sure

Alliance Rom FAQ
How do I install 7.02?
You need to uninstall the Rom Customiser that comes with the Rom then install the new one from play store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ficeto.alliancemanager) once installed go into Rom Customiser and then OTA and select the updates.
OTA does not mean Samsung or System OTA.
How do I install 7.3? I can't find it in OTA.
7.3 is a full Rom and not an update. As such you need to download the full Rom zip from the OP on the Alliance Thread. Once downloaded flash it through Rom Customiser.
How do I flash the Stock Theme for 7.3?
During installation uncheck the box next to "Alliance Theme".
What can be installed through Rom Customiser?
Anything can be flashed through Rom Customiser as long as it is a Flashable zip, an Odin Tar file or an OTA download.
I have Downloaded a mod or update from OTA which I cannot flash through recovery. What am I doing wrong?
You need to flash these files through Rom Customiser which will then automate recovery. You cannot flash these independently.
What is the default blue colour used in the Rom?
Uncheck the Alpha box Colour Hex code #33b5e5
How can I get the Dandelion Lock Screen Wallpaper back?
Download it from here.
Bespoke stuff
These are bits that have been requested by others for a specific requirement not Rom or Kernel specific.
MTU 1300 (tun0) - App to set the MTU value to 1300 for a VPN connection using tun0.

Changing the DPI
Change the Entire System DPI setting.
1. Open Root Explorer
2. Navigate to /System folder
3. Open the build.prop file
4. Scroll down to the 'Additional_build_properties' you are looking for the line
"ro.sf.lcd_density = 240"
The default value for the LCD density is 240, the lower the number the more on
the screen. 200 is a good value to start with.
Save the change.
5. Reboot phone for the change to become effective.

Since I requested this tweak, I would give a simple explanation on what it does and how to use it.
When your connecting to a ipsec vpn using wifi and having trouble browsing to your internal websites eventhough your connected to it. You can ping your internal network but the trouble is no browsing. The solutions are:
1. Tell your System Administrator to change the ip tcp adjust-mss to a lower value, in my case I used 1000 using 1841 cisco router. This prevents the packet from fragmentation. Packets when fragmented were dropped thus resulting to no browsing. If the Sys Ad refuses to do so because this may cause some issues to Windows users (browsing may slow a little bit), your best solution is to install this tweak.
2. This MTU mod sets the MTU value of your payload to 1300 via tunnel interface of your android device this avoiding packet fragmentation resulting to packet being allowed to pass through the tunnel interface going to ipsec vpn router.
How to use it:
1. Download the vpnc widget from playstore. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmail.mjm4456.vpncwidget&hl=en
Configure your credentials. Then connect.
2. Once the vpnc widget has been connected open this app. Then you should have browsed your internal network.
Note: This tweak is needed only for wifi connections. If your using carrier data, then this is not needed anymore.
Please give thanks to the creator of this app.
I just gave him the code and he did all the stuff in making this app looks nice and easy to use.
Big credit to OP, trevfee and thanks to my neatrom family (Many40, Mr.Greg, ESD and others who helped me finding the code)

IMEI Recovery
IMPORTANT
FOR THIS PROCESS TO WORK YOU MUST HAVE A GOOD COPY OF YOUR /efs DIRECTORY TAKEN PRIOR TO THE PROBLEM HAPPENING. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RECOVER.
DISCLAIMER - THIS IS AN AMALGAMATION OF IDEAS, PROCESSES AND GUIDES FOUND ONLINE ALONG WITH MY OWN MODIFICATIONS AND PROCESSES THAT I HAD TO MAKE TO GET THE PROCESS TO WORK FOR ME.
ALTHOUGH I HAVE PERFORMED THIS PROCESS IN FULL AND IT HAS WORKED FOR ME I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE OR DATA LOSS THAT ARISES FROM FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE. BY USING THIS GUIDE YOU ARE ACCEPTING ANY AND ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL ACTIONS AND THEIR RESULTS.
IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT PERFORMING THIS PROCESS WILL INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTY BUT IF YOU ARE ALREADY ROOTED AND RUNNING CUSTOM SOFTWARE THEN YOU HAVE ALREADY INVALIDATED YOUR WARRANTY ANYWAY.
This is a common problem that usually occurs when a problem is encountered flashing a file from Recovery. Please take the precautions listed below, it will save you a lot of trouble should you ever suffer from this problem.
Backup Process
There are 3 ways that I use to back up the /efs directory.
These are:
1 - Manually copy /efs to your SD Card and make another copy somewhere safe (Computer, Dropbox, etc).
2 - Use HC-kTool to make a backup image of your /efs directory.
3 - Use Galaxy S Unlock AND GSII Repair to make backups of your original /efs directory (These are both the same but by doing both you have two copies of /efs available should you need it).
All Apps available from the Google Play Store or can be downloaded in the AppPack from here
At the end of this process you will have 4 copies of your /efs directory on your SD Card as well as any dulicates you created externally in step 1. This might seem like overkill but trust me taking 5 minutes creating these will save you hours and possibly quite a bit of money in repair costs in the long run should you ever need to recover!
Now you have your backups lets hope that you never need them, but should you then...

Original Post
Symptoms
You may have one, some or all of the following:
No Signal
Emergency Call Only
No Network
IMEI 004999010640000
IMEI 000000000000000
IMEI
(To check your IMEI number either enter *#06# dial into the dialer or check in Settings, Phone Information)
Prerequisites
Rooted Phone
Try the following processes in order until the problem is resolved.
Method 1:
Open HC-kTool and choose "Restore efs from backup (DANGEROUS!)" then choose "Restore IMG". Once completed you will be prompted to reboot. Perform Reboot and if all has gone well you will have a working phone again.
Method 2:
Open Galaxy S Unlock app and select "Restore saved EFS Folder". This will come up with a response saying "Done". Reboot and see if your phone is working again.
Method 3:
Open GSII_Repair and perform Options 2 and 3. Your phone will reboot. Once it has rebooted see if your phone is working.
Method 4:
Open GSII_Repair and select "Restore saved EFS Folder". This will come up with a response saying "Done". Reboot and see if your phone is working again.
Method 5:
This is the last chance (and the one that after tweaking to what you see below worked for me).
You will Need the following:
Stock GB ROM
Insecure Kernel
ODIN
Quick Root
All of these can be downloaded in the IMEIFix.zip which can be downloaded from here.
Android SDK and ADB instaled on your Computer or a Terminal App on your Phone (Personally I prefer ADB from Computer but you choose whichever you are most comfortable with).
We are going to restore your phone to as close to original stock a possible. No data wil be removed from your SD Card(s) but all installed apps, customisations, ROMs and Kernels will be removed. Please backup everyting you need before runnng this process.
If you are able to make a Nandroid Backup of your Rom you will be able to recover this at the end of the process.
Open ODIN
In Options select "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time".
Select the following files from the "OriginalRom" folder on your computer:
Bootloader -> KERNEL_I9100XEKDB_CL161513_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
PDA -> CODE_I9100XEKDB_CL161513_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Phone -> MODEM_I9100XXKDH_REV_02_CL995882.tar.md5
Reboot your phone into Download Mode (Hold down Home, Volume Down and Power when turnng on).
When in Download Mode connect to Computer via USB.
You will get a Ready message in one of the top boxes in ODIN. When you have this press the Start button.
After a while your phone will reboot and load up into it's Stock setup.
Configure the settings and then Power down the Phone.
Once Powered down go into Download Mode again (same process as above).
In ODIN press Reset.
Set the same options as before.
This time only set the Bootloader box. Select the file from the "InsecureKernel" folder on your computer - NOTE Insecure means that it is able to be rooted, not that there is a security issue with using it. We will be replacing this later anyway.
Check you have the Ready in the top box in ODIN and press Start.
Once finished your phone will reboot to stock again. IMPORTANT - Disconnect the USB cable before proceeding.
Go to Settings, Applications, Developer Options.
Turn ON "USB Debugging".
Connect USB cable to Computer and Phone.
Open "Samsung Quick Root"
Select "Reboot Device When Finished"
Press "Root Device"
Some text will scroll on the screen and then phone will reboot.
This will have installed SuperUser, Busybox and Rooted your phone.
Install a Root capable Explorer app, I used Es File Explorer, either download from the Play Store or you can install if from the Apps folder of IMEIFix downloaded above.
Open a Command Prompt on your Computer
Enter the following commands:
adb shell
su
busybox umount -l /efs
exit
exit
Using your chosen exporer delete the efs folder from the root of your phone.
Reset the phone, after that open your explorer again and browse to the Root, the efs folder should have recreated and will contain files. These are new and are system generated.
Go to the efs folder using your chosen explorer, and delete "nv_data.bin" and "nv_data.bin.md5".
Go to the working back up of your efs folder on your SD Card, copy the "imei" folder to the efs folder at the root of your phone, then again go to the backed up efs folder on your SD Card and copy the "nv_data.bin" file to your efs folder at the root of your phone using your explorer. Once you have copied this file, please rename the new file to "nv_data.bin.bak".
Make another copy of the "nv_data.bin" file in the backed up efs folder on your SD Card and paste this into the efs folder at the root of your phone again.
On your Computer open a command prompt and enter the following commands:
adb shell
su
chown 1001:radio /efs/nv_data.bin
Reset your phone.
You should now have your Original IMEI, check this by dialing *#06# call into the dialer. If you have the correct IMEI then you are done. You can either reinstall your usual ROM, Apps, Kernel etc manually or restore an existing backup.
If you need to install a Recovery with CWM (to restore backups or install new ROMs and Kernels then please follow these steps:
Install Mobile Odin from ChainFire from the Play Store (or if you are an XDA user you can download from here)
If you have used the XDA version you will also need the eu.chainfire.mobileodin.flashkernel.i9100.v2-1 apk file, this is in the IMEIFix download above in the Apps folder.
Copy the Kernel-V7.tar file from the CWMKernel folder in IMEIFix to your SD Card.
Open Mobile Odin and from there open the Kernel-V7.tar file. This will flash Dorimanx 7.45. If you now boot into recovery you can flash what you need to in the usual way.
By following the process above you will likely find that the Triangle Alert is now on your screen when booting yor phone indicating that your bootloader has been modified. Although this makes no functional difference to your phone you can remove this alert by installing TriangleAway from the Play Store (or if you are an XDA user you can download from here. This will reset the flash counters in your phone and remove the warning.
If you still have the wrong or no IMEI then you will need to seek further help.
There is no obligation but if this guide has just saved your phone and you feel you would like to show your appreciation there is a "Donate" button on the left, please feel free to use it.
YouTube fix
The problem is actually with Xlory's Inverted Play Store so far a fix had not been released by Xlory so we have to use the following workaround based on suggestion from Nos_20 and modifications from Andreas75k.
Fully uninstall YouTube, firstly from the Play Store or Settings, Applications and then from Rom Customiser (Manage System Apps).
In Rom Customiser go to OTA then select and flash Stock Play Store.
Goto Settings, Applications and wipe cache, data and any updates for Google Play Services and Google Play Store.
Reboot to recovery.
Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache.
Reboot.
Once rebooted reinstall YouTube in Rom Customiser and update through the Play Store or just install directly from the Play Store but obviously it wont be a system app.
That's it, all should now work.
Key here is: don't use any modified versions of Google Play Services, Google Play Store or YouTube, only STOCK.

Had this problem the other night, I fixed it by loading Xposed framework first in Adb, then installing with ADb command, after open Xposed framework and go to modules use the mouse to tick the ouya box. after this I ran the script to install google play and bam I was running. the batch file would time out on my network copy and the xposed framework so I bypassed it and it solved my issues.

I have had this issue also, did you see the license agreement for googIe Play when you first opened the play store? I never got the license pop-up so I went back into Exposed are re-ran the installer and then rebooted. Is there anyway to uninstall Google Play on the Ouya? I also get the no connection error. I tried clearing the cache, disabling it/re-enable it. All have no luck. Anyone know a better way to fix this?
No Connection(Custom Rom) Fix
For custom roms, just Wipe Dalvik Cache and Flash Gapps. Fixed for me
*easy step by step solution*!!!

I dont know how many other people out there use androids built in vpn, but i hate the fact that you are required to use a security screen (pattern, pin, password) to do so. I have found a way to bypass this if you are rooted. This has only been tested on the stock kk rooted ota. However i would think it is the same on almost any stock based rom.
This assumes you already have your vpn and a security screen setup and working.
Go to the market and download a root capable data base (db) editor. I use SQLite Editor which is a paid app, but im sure there are free ones too.
Open the db editor. SQLite Editor sorts it by the app (in this case Android System) the data base is associated with, others may not work this way and may require you to navigate to the db file directly (/data/system/locksettings.db).
Open locksettings.db and select the locksettings directory. Look for the line that says "lockscreen.password_type". Under the value colum it will show some random number. Select the line and edit the value to be 0 (zero). Save if required by your db app, and restart your phone.
When it reboots you should no longer have a security lock screen only the swipe up screen. When you go to settings - more - vpn, it will still say you need to setup a security lock. Hit CANCEL, and it will show you your list of setup vpn's. Select one and connect. Boom working vpn with no pattern, pin, password screen required.
To undo this just go to settings - security - screenlock, and setup a new lock pattern, pin, or password.
You can also disable the swipe up lock screen by editing the "lockscreen.disabled" value in the locksettings.db to be a 1 instead of a 0.
good write up, thank you sir.
Where did you get stock kk rooted?
Sent from my HTC One
I was already unlocked and s-off, so i ruu'd took the kk ota and then rooted it. But i believe santod has his thread in development where you can download the stock rooted kk rom.
an alternative method
An add-on alternative update for relevancy. Using Samsung Note 3 4.3 MJ7 stock rooted.
Firstly, thanks OP for a nice clear guide for all on how to do this theoretically.
This is an alternative for those who aren't able to purchase SQLite Editor:
1. get a good freeware SQLite editor like for example SQLite Studio @ w w w sqlitestudio.pl
2. copy following files from your phone to the PC using some form of file explorer or whatever methods you can think of
/data/system/locksettings.db
/data/system/locksettings.db-shm
/data/system/locksettings.db-wal
3. open up the editor, load the locksettings.db and modify like what OP has mentioned
4. you will notice that the new saved DB is going to be a single file instead so just replace this file back into your phone and delete the OTHER files
5. reboot and done.
:highfive:
Alternative method
found it on another forum
The process does not require rooting its more like a bug
worked on my i9300 with 4.3 firmware
1. Add a VPN
2. Lock the device with a pin
3. Enter the pin wrong 5 times
4. Press OK to the message that pops up
5 Press Forgot Pin
6. Sign into your Google Account
7. Select pin lock
8. Press cancel.
and now u got unlocked screen with working vpns
the method works, but after I reboot, when I enter VPN screen is aks me for "password for credential storage"... how can I solve? thanks in advance

5. reboot and done.

i also followed the tutorial now and same as you guys, doesnt work
worked for me initially on samsung mega (jellybean), but after reboot i'm getting the 'enter password for creditial storage' issue and pressing cancel doesn't solve it.
is there any other solution?
In 4.4 there is no such file
Code:
/data/system/locksettings.db
.. any ideas?

Try a different file manager.
It failed like that for me with ES File Explorer,
but worked when I used SM File Browser.

What I do here: just type something.. anything, doesn't matter. At least one character.
Then on the next screen, where it asks to set up a lockscreen, just Cancel.
This seems to be necessary once per boot -- any password, different time or the same, works.
After that it lands me on the VPN manager screen, all functional.
Well I kind of messed up. I tried to open with SQLite but it would give me an error 14. So i decided to try to open just like that using ES Explorer and edit it like regular note(SQL is totally different I had no idea). Anyways i didnt edit anything but now i cant set a pin or any type of security on my phone. When i try to set up a pin it still shows a swipe and when i try again my Note 3 freezes and get an error message saying settings stopped responding.
Any idea on how to fix this? Im rooted and im running the latest firmware 4.4.2 if that helps.
