hey guys!
after 2 years with the great lg optimus 2x i decided to buy a lg optimus g.
all i can say after 1 month of usage is, that it is a great phone with awesome battery life.
but can i make it a better phone with even better battery life?
i usually have 2,7h screen on time until the battery goes to sleep.
i underclocked it to 1 ghz with eco mode on
can i get a better battery life if i change to a custom rom like PA and kite kernel?
(PA increased the battery life of my 2x enormously)
thanks for your answers

why?
You can't compare an optimized stock rom with a custom made out of scratch.

are there any mods for the stock rom, that improve battery life?
is the kite kernel better than stock one?
There are scripts available for battery but i dont think it will give a big boost to battery.. Use greenify, turn off sync, use wifi instead of 3g, lower screen timeout, lower capacitive light timeout, lower brightness etc etc etc

The best solution is to charge the phone, then turn it off and leave it like that. The battery will last for 2 weeks. Come on guys,it's a heavy duty device. It's supposed to be used. I usually get 4-5hrs of screen time, but i charge it every evening.

I'm using Greenify to hibernate some apps... Brightness at 25% with auto.... Thermald config file changed to 1026mhz(underclocked) for all the cores..... Eco mode enabled..... In 2g i used to gt now than one day backup...!!

KitKat has greatly improved my battery life. So there's hope for custom roms.
LiquidSmooth
I have been running LiquidSmooth for E973 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2526087) since November 12. It has not had a single force close or reboot or instability in that time. I side loaded the google experience launcher and am running the new launcher on 4.3.1. This has exceptional battery life and stability, light years beyond any other custom rom for E973 (though I haven't tried Omni since 11/11).
I recommend giving LiquidSmooth a try if you are having battery issues! KitKat was killing my battery life, but I'm loving this rom.

I just checked my perf monitor, and on LiquidSmooth, which is giving me battery life as good or better than stock 4.1.2, my phone is running Deep Sleep 66% of time, 384 MHz 25% of time, 1512 MHz 5% of time, and 1026 MHz 2% of the time. I will definitely check out what you are saying the next time I flash Chad's Omni build for E973. I wonder if the kernel also has a very low clock rate when the screen is off: the Bluetooth and screen issues I had may be explained by a very low CPU speed when the screen was off (music on my bluetooth headset was very skippy, with intermittent semi-second pauses, always delays but not drops of time). Thanks for sharing the possible source of poor battery life on the Omni build.
check mine
On pacman nightlies with kite kernel.

I've used cm9 and aokp the past month and tried the stock Kernels that come with it and Franco's. One thing is for certain. No matter combination I get horrible battery life. If I run stock android with my extended battery including various Widgets I get 24 hours battery life pretty easily. Moderate usage and some heavy usage. With cm9 I'm getting maybe 15-16 hrs with aokp maybe 8-9 hers and I'm using Franco's kernel right now. I don't understand this. People talk about how much better the battery life is with various ROMS than stock but I'm not getting it. I'm getting like half the battery life I was before. Any ideas?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I can relate to you. Was in CM9 and Franko's kernel and as you said, horrible battery life. I went back to stock but this time I did not install apps thar would require services running (well I have to run WhatsApp so that's the only one running besides default abdroid services).
I am seeing better battery life this way.
The next step would be to install CM9 and restore all my apps to see if I can replicate the same battery life.

you need to find out what apps are keeping your phone from sleeping dude its not the ROM or Kernel if you want to find out you can use better battery stats or just read the permissions on your apps otherwise its probably cause your on your phone too much with the screen on first show use a usage screen shot then how many apps you have we can narrow it down

I swear my battery life is better with the kernel that comes with AOKP rather than franco, which was a bummer since I'd just bought the franco updater app, perhaps just my imagination or maybe something just needs to be tweaked
Well, this has pretty much nothing to do with the ROMs/kernels, you flash to the device. If you use the device for heavy gaming, you use loads of apps etc. the battery life will obviously be bad, because the CPU needs the according CPU clock speed...
Underclock the CPU, or better: Get AnTuTu CPU Master pro, and set the profiles, underclock screen off, to 700 MHz, and every other proile, where you do not neccessarily need the device to that speed, not below, otherwise it will just crash... That way you have the best battery life, for your usage, so basically, every time you switch the device's screen off, it will save a hell of a load of battery
Under clocking doesn't do much for battery life contrary to popular belief. It just increases the time it takes to process a task. It might take 1s at 1.2ghz vs 1.8s at 800ghz to complete a given task for example. So yes the cpu will run at lower speed and voltage but it still also take longer to return to idle.

Well, I don't really mean to break this, because it is right, but not completely...
Underclocking & undervolting, when the device is not in use (Screen off) saves loads of battery...
And because it's a dual-core, it takes mostly just as long to open an app at 700 MHz, as when you're doing it at stock clock speed, or voltage or higher.. So, in that case...

For me its KA21 with Arcknight 3.3 Stock Kernel.
Really smooth, better battery than i experienced stockwise...
try ICS_anzu_KTG tuned_V1.41: governor interactiv
actually battery drain more depends on the kernels..for best battery life stock kernel is the best
Guys note that lad has Pro not Arc. Stock is usually the worst, or better - default gauge for custom ROMs. I've been watching cyanogenmod discussion for a while, usually users feedback on battery life varied from version to version; for tweaked versions can be said that battery life is the same as in stock while the performance is 20% better. I don't know about MIUI.
(Out of your question, the best for battery life are Ultima ROM and Buttermilk ROM which are optimized for battery life and battery life is notably better there; with Buttermilk and low usage you can do as much as 4 days without charging - worth for outdoor trips. Ultima ROM when idle eats like 0,6% per hour.)
Stock rom with stock kernal had the best battery life... but also lags the most.
I recomend arconium ICS with stock kernal for a balaced experiance...!!!

Well if you game a lot compared to someone who doesn't then obviously ones battery will last longer than the other, so there's a few factors that can be taken into account in regards to battery life.

well my method of testing battery drain(i guess everybody tests the same way) is only on standby..how much time does it take to move 1% down when the phone is not touched for an hr or 2...in exceptional cases battery will drain fast while using 3G in one kernel but lil slow on other kernel..
again my point is kernel is more responsible for battery life of the phone rather than a ROM..

Then you need to take syncing into account, if yours is on and mine is off on the same kernel then yours may drian a bit quicker than mine, which goes back to my point of how a user uses their Phone. I don't think it's a black and white issue.

yea dude.. i get it..my point was simple..people were talking about best roms for battery life.. i just said kernel plays an important role in deciding that..that was my only point..i wasnt arguing with anyone..and testing of battery drain at standby means with data off, bluetooth off, gps off..hence syncing of account wont come into picture
I'm not arguing, just trying to make a point also.

Yes I know and sorry, the last two ROMs I was refering to are GB. However, Riyal is working on Ultima ICS ROM and it already exists in alpha version! See this post with download link Hopefully the ROM will have similar advantages as has GB Ultima ROM over GB stock ROM, which means better battery life, better wi-fi reception, improved camera and so on.

I did that when I had iPhone 4.
im using cm7.2 latest release alvays, i also have an app set cpu and i set my governor to scary, min freq 145 mhz, and max 1024, and im using profiles for apps that im using most of time (underclock cpu while using that apps)
with that i have at least 40% better battery life
and, yes, u can downgrade using flashtool

So far Arcknight kernel has quite the reputation for good battery life. IMO, for roms i find CM9 from FreeXperia project quite awesome but then there's an issue with the battery stats and brightness for now so wait for the next release i guess. for GB try arconium 8.2. still mostly its based on kernel and also the governor.

I don't think that there is much difference between Custom rom and Adroid versions, I noticed that JB seems to be more of a power drain hog than ICS.. But as usual it mainly depends on your personal usage and the main drain source is (then) always the screen.
Lowering the screen brightness will have more effects than kernels and custom roms

Battery depends on how you use it. Usually some custom ROMs can help save battery life but it has been proven by a lot of people that Touchwiz has the best battery life, but really there is a small difference since the phone averages 4 hours of screen time. :silly:

Dude, if you want to just increase battery life with Jedi, I'd say find Cl3kener's last 4.1.2 Tiberius Kernel and flash that. Install TricksterMod from the play store. From Trickster change your scheduler to bfq and your governor to Ondemand. Turn minimum CPU frequency down to 192. I also turn down my GPU max frequency down to 177, and my mpdecision idle_freq to 192. You should definitely some increase in your idle battery consumption. Unfortunately there's not much to do with active battery consumption like games and video .
I used that rom for 6 months...(I stopped using it, because I started to hate touchwiz), and I didn't have any problem. It's probably going to work for you too, but just in case, take a backup. (Remember that you have to install a custom recovery)

The best battery life I can get with this phone is with the last stable release of CM 12.1, and with the last f4k kernel for this ROM. This kernel allows undervolting. I can use a global offset of 150mV for all the frequency without any sign of instability (I have been using this settings for months). You should also deactivate wifi, bluetooth, NFC and so on if you are not using it. Also, use the power saving mode of you phone. With these settings and an extremely low using of my phone (only sms/whatsapp), it lasts for a week. I also put it in airplane mode during the night to save battery.

Ahah you're right. I challenged myself to get the very most out of my battery . 4h30 is not a lot though, might be due to the early stage of development of cm13.
I haven't found a custom kernel for cm13 yet. The development of this rom started something like 1 month ago, so that's a bit early I think.
