When I try to use TWRP it says 0MB backed up. Then the recovery file it creates is like 300kb
Is that right?

You can use CWM, TWRP, Andromizer Pro, or EFS Pro. Quickest method is EFS Pro. Good luck.

So that is correct? I have properly backed it up? And if I ever break it I cam just restore that backup file in recovery and it'll work?
Sent from your phone. You should be more careful where you leave that thing.

I'm not 100% sure as I've never had to restored it. When I was using Philz recovery the efs backup was like 50kb. Might try one of the other tool and compare.

Efs folder backup?

Hi, I stupidly went back to stock and lost my imei number without making a efs backup, when I used aroma it asked if I wanted to make an efs backup and I said yes.
Would that backup help me in returning fully to stock rom? If so, where would that backup be stored in my phone?
Hope someone can help
Thanks a lot

I must add that I didnt back up on the stock rom, I was already on a custom rom, if that helps.
Many thanks

The backup you made will be no good cause it will contain the efs of the new rom you installed.. you can check though. The efs backup will be on your sd card..
Sdcard/EFS
In efs theres folders inc imei wifi bluetooth etc

Do I have to be rooted to see that folder? As its not in my sd card, the only way I can see that folder is in root explorer but im not rooted at the moment.
Can I ask one more question? If I were to put stock rom back on my phone and use newer modem, my imei and network will come back, would I be able to get ota updates? Because when ive tried to search for an update, it would just hang on searching.

Yes. Copy them to your pc under efs backup aswell for safe keeping. There are guides on here of how to restore your efs with 4.1.2 roms but you will need root.
As you have efs backup I found this for you. Make sure you read and understand before doing anything..

That zip file in the link is a app. Download install.. if you backed up the efs on the stock rom before flashing the new rom it will work..
The only other thing to do is flash this modem via cwm recovery.
It says it fixes the problem

I still have a back up from efs pro? can I use that to restore my efs? if so how??
please help, im screwed
You've backed up the new modified efs folder which is only compatible with the new firmwares. You can restore from that backup, in fact you need to, but there is no going back to old firmware now. You can achieve stock if you download and flash a stock rom of version DME6 or newer, but you can never use anything older again.

How would I go about restoring that backup from efs pro? As when I am trying to select it in the restore section of efs pro it can not be seen in drop down box?
It is in tar format, there is a pit file with it but I guess as I wiped everything out of my actual efs folder through root explorer it might not work.
Also I have a pop up on my screen with loads of different information like an error pop up? I cant screen shot it other wise I would show u

Try unpacking the tar.gz, copy the the efs map to the root with the original name ofcourse(With Root Explorer AND WITH READ WRITE PERMISSION!), then reboot. I've had the same situation as you do, this was the only fix for me.
Thanks for reply, I got efs pro to work in the end but my phone is still ****ed it has no imei or serial number? Ive been looking for a solution all day.
Its also still in factory mode it says h/w not active and rf cal date unknown.
I also tried what u said and it says theres not enough space in the folder when I copy it? Its an efs.img file? And its 20mb in size. I swear if I get this sorted im never rooting my phone again.

You might need to repartition the phone using a PIT file if you completely removed the folder (and not just the contents).
Reinstall your stock rom using a PIT file in ODIN and after the restoration is done try to restore your EFS again. It should work now!
Cheers!

Im not sure if I fixed my serial number though cos it was 0000000 , I changed it in root explorer and it stuck! it hasnt changed back to 000000 so now I think I just need to change my imei back but how do I do that if obviously it seems like my efs backup is corrupt as well?

I'm having almost the exact same problem as OP. 2 questions. When you say "copy the efs map" what do you mean by that? All the contents of my unpacked efs .tar.gz backup file? Also, what do you mean by "with the original name"? Thanks!
After restoring the rom with a pit file, did you try restoring the EFS using EFSPro? You should be able to do it just using the restore option in that app, although you should be rooted to be able to restore it.
And what do you mean by "put it back using root explorer?"

Yeah after flashin a stock rom with pit file I used efs pro to restore the backup but that didnt work, I can only assume that the back up is corrupt as well? Basically I deleted everything in my efs folder so that I wiped my imei and serial number, my imei is 4000000 and serial number is 0000000, so what I done was change my serial number in root explorer from 0000000 to my actual serial number which is behind my battery, ive rebooted and flashed another stock rom since then and it hasnt changed, but my imei is still ending with 400000.
So if my backup is corrupt? I have no idea what my options are? Ive had nothing but a headache the last 2 days trying to fix it.
Many thanks

Did you root after restoring the backup? And did you also enable USB debugging? As I recall, EFSPro requires those to work optimally. And one last thing: did you use the latest version?
I rooted before I restored on efs pro, also what do mean by using latest version? If u mean stock rom? I used DMC3-BTU, thats the only one I had on my computer at the time, I flashed that with a pit file dated 2/11/2012?? Then I rooted and tried to restore the phone but it didnt work? I then thought as the firmware was old I would put a DF1 modem on it but that still didnt work either? Am I doing something wrong? Im going out my mind trying to sort this out!
Thanks alot

Oh also I restored on old version of efs pro I think it was version 1.93 or summink, as that is the only version that will locate the backup file in the drop down menu?? I just tried the version in the link u gave me but still same? It recognises my phone but when I use the restore drop down bit it is blank? I try to refresh but still blank?? I think it might have something to do with the restore file not being in tar.gz format? I somehow unzipped it and now its just a tar file? I dont know how to rezip the file? Any ideas please would be great.
Thanks

What are the contents of the tar.gz? I mean: if you open it with winrar / 7z, etc, what do you see?
For instance, when I open my EFS tar.gz backup, I see a single file called efs.img:
If you have that as well, you could try restoring your EFS using DD by putting the EFS.img in the root of your SD card and typing the following commands on ADB Shell:
Code:
adb shell su -c "dd if=/sdcard/efs.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=4096"
Well ive repackaged the tar file to tar.gz and now efs pro has located the file but I click restore and a pop up comes onto the screen saying *you must select one partition to restore???? I dont know what that means??

EFS Pro can restore it from your computer
just have to replace the drivers installed by samsung with theirs and you should be able to backup and restore your EFS, just use 2 different usb ports, 1 where the device is connected as is so it works with kies and one where it has the other drivers installed so it works with EFS Pro
also, i think TWRP recovery has the ability to restore the EFS

If you have EFS backup in tar.gz format, then follow following steps :
1) Make sure that your device is rooted and USB Debugging is enabled
2) Go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922473
3) There you will see a file SAMSUNG_N7100_EFS_BACKUP.zip . Download it and extract on your PC.
3) Rename your backed up efs tar.gz file to EFS.tar.gz and copy it to the root of your internal storage.
4) Now execute the file "EFS_Backup.bat" on your PC from where you extracted the SAMSUNG_N7100_EFS_BACKUP.zip specified on point 3
5) A command prompt window will open giving you many options. Press 4 (TAR.GZ Restore)
6) Wait for the command to execute. If Superuser asks to grant permission on your phone, press "Grant". Otherwise process will not continue.
If it finds EFS.tar.gz file on your internal sd and root permissions are granted, process will execute successfully. Once it is done, reboot the phone.
Thank you very much for this I will try when I get home from work today
Thanks

The root folder efs? I believe it is different from Samsung. Searching for mk9efs from system root led me here - /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/ . Searching for efs from the system root doesn't supply much, the location I just posted and a few other folders like efs-bridge. Now I may be wrong on this, @engine95 knows more than I, but I am under the impression that our efs are on 3 separate partitions and may not be accessible from a root file explorer. I don't think we have a root efs "folder". Again, I am NOT 100% on this and could be completely wrong.......

I'm not quite sure what he's asking.
The EFS backup with TWRP creates an "EFS folder with 3 files in it.
And if I remember right... @HPTesla is right. EFS is in 3 partitions. One of them is actually empty, but is still needed.
You can see the mk9efs files in the folder but that's it. Im guessing FreeGee and TWRP are basically just taking a picture of the partitions.
So to the OP, are you trying to make sure the files are there? Or are you trying to access the files in there?

? You should be able to do it from within TWRP. It depends on the version of TWRP you are using, 2.5.0.0 has been the most stable for this phone in my experience. It's an option in my backup and restore that I can check/uncheck. However, TWRP 2.6.3.0+ is needed to flash almost all 4.4 based roms and the options are different.

If you are still using the same TWRP version you used to make the backup but switched to an AOSP based rom it appears as if the backup disappeared. The backup is located in /data/media/TWRP but TWRP will look in /data/media/0/TWRP. You can copy the old backup to the 0/TWRP folder and reboot recovery.
If you are using a different version of TWRP than the one you used to make the backup, your backup may also not show up. You should use the version you used to make the back up to restore it back. I hope this helps.

It was part of an OpTimuS backup, it was in the actual thing, like there were efs1.win, efs2.win, etc. But I select restore and it.doesn't show up, when it did yesterday

It was on a stock based? And since it was there yesterday I doubt you are using a different TWRP. Ok I'm at a loss honestly....

I'm not having a problem anymore though. Stock works, so I just backed it up with freegee and restored

Does Titanium Backup backup IMEI as well??

Hey guys,
I'm about to flash my first rom and so far I made a System Data and User App backup using Tintanium.
Now I read somewhere that for Samsungs we need to backup IMEI info as well...Does Titanium do that?
Thanks!

You could backup/restore the efs folder with TWRP or CWM. There's a how to thread somewhere around here.
