Asphalt 8 crashes on fresh Kitkat? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Just as I was gathering up all the stuff to sideload Kitkat onto my 'just out of the box' Nexus 7, my screen on the N7 flashed up an OTA with 4.4 ten minutes after being turned on. (haha)
The very first app I installed was Asphalt 8, 1.56G later and it just crashes every time I try to run it. Seriously? Anyone running it on a Kitkat 2013 N7?

Uhhh... Yeah, as in download it and install it via ADB. Do you even lift bro?

I'm able to play it pm 4.4 but I'm only getting about 15-17 fps with an occansional crash . Asphalt 8 just must not be very optimized for either our nexus 7 or KitKat?

That is odd considering any Googling I do on the subject brings up endless stories about how the game was specifically coded to be a showcase app for the new Nexus 7. I mean, the game FLIES on my Note 2, if they have to fudge the res a bit that's fine but otherwise I will be disgusted if a 2013 Nexus 7 can't play Asphalt 8 like butter.

Right.

i have just unpacked my n7.2 with android 4.3 and asphalt 8 works like a charm. no stutters, lags etc.

I can play asphalt 8 on my nexus 7 running kitkat but only when i disable wifi before starting the game

Notice how it still helps because it means the hardware is capable of playing the game. I am in the process of re-installing it from scratch, then I will try other things. One thing that Android games *really* need to jump on is old school pc-like video settings, so we can manually set resolution and tweak every single thing possible for framerate. For most games this Nexus 7 flies, but it is over-reaching the res on a power hungry engine.

If you have AdFree or some other ad blocking app you will have to revert back. Some how blocking ads makes asphalt unplayable. Also blocking ads affects the best buy app and some mobile websites and makes those unusable too.

I know this is a bit old but still, I have a nexus 7 running Kit kat and asphalt 8 worked fine. Until today,I am reinstalling it currently and I am going to see if it works. Try clearing to cache of the app.

I restored a Titanium Backup of Asphalt 8 from my old device and didn't encounter any crashes playing it so far (nexus 7 2013, kitkat 4.4.2). However my cloud save is still linked to the old device and it asks me to choose cloud or local data every single time I start the game, which is bl**dy annoying!
Interesting to see people commenting about the frame rate - I got a slimport adapter yesterday and tried a few games on my 1080p monitor - most of them were pretty smooth, but Asphalt 8 was quite laggy. I haven't updated to the freemium version yet so I don't know if the current build is a bit more optimised.

Doesnt run on KITKAT
I have tried several times, but it always crashes on kitkat:crying:

I fixed the lagging of Asphalt 8 in my Nexus 7 2013
Other than Asphalt other apps had also slowed down, so I found a link that spoke about cleaning up or rather wiping the cache partition, which has restored the speed on my tablet. Just Google nexus 7 lagging after 4.4 update, there's an article on wiping cache partition. Hope this helps everyone still searching.

I'm going to try other roms to see if its just a ROM issue, the game is HIGHLY addictive thats for sure. I like how much more responsive it is compared to the iOS version, much better on Android but the crashing is troublesome
Yep, Crashes occasionally, but I think thy will fix it shortly. Great game tho.

is not HD and it cracks everytime.... need a fix right now ¡¡¡¡
but a really great game
It runs fine overall. But it seems laggy when you are running fast (i.e >5000m)
I found out that instead of pressing "run again", if you press the "back" button the game tends to crash a lot less.
see if this works for you too.
I haven't had any fcs but I have had it randomly close out. Also, I noticed it holds a wake lock on orientation and magnetic sensors (which drains battery) even when its not open and not even showing a process in task manager. That alone pretty much made me uninstall it. Great game from what I played tho. Definitely gonna reinstall once they squash some bugs
Temple Run not showing in Google Play from phone
I tried to install Temple Run by visiting the Google Play store directly from the app on my Galaxy Nexus, but could not see the app in the store that way.
By pulling up the Google Play store on my desktop machine I was able to see and install the Temple Run app to my Galaxy Nexus.
I have tried the game a few times but it force closes every time I try play again or main menu after a run.
My questions to the xda community
1. why would the Temple Run game not show up in the play store on my device?
2. could the answer to 1 involve stability issues with the game on the device?
Device: Galaxy Nexus
Carrier: Verizon, 4G LTE
OS: Stock Android 4.0.2, ICL53F

1) I also couldn't find in the Play Store on my GNex, but I found if you search "Imangi Studios" instead of "temple run" the game pops up in the results.
2) It's more likely that since it had just come out, Play Store might not be showing the App in its top 100 results since they are a lot of apps with "temple" in its name, which has been downloaded a lot more, and thus is getting pushed up in the results when you search "temple run"

Google Play is so laggy!

After a year, Google Play is STILL the laggiest piece of software I have seen on ANY platform. How can Google still have it so laggy? I never use Google play because the experience sucks.
How come Google didn't fire the guy who approved the app with such lags and still haven't solved this issue?

When you scroll up or down when browsing apps its sooo lagy! But when you view an app its very smooth. Also transitions on Google play is very choppy.
Maybe this is an ICS issue because its the same on every app

You may need to re flash your phone or something. I am on my GSII and other than the millisecond it takes for the icon to appear the market is very fast and smooth. I can flick my finger and scroll through fifty apps with no issue..... Every click and backspace is smooth..... You might want to try and smooth your phone out..... Seems like issues from flashing a million times. Don't forget to wipe..... And wipe again.
killing is my business, And business is good.
You're holding it wrong. But seriously the only lag you mention might be when you scroll down the page is caching more apps and you're waiting for it to download. The faster your connection the less lag/caching you will experience. Everything else is as smooth as my latency allows. No lag here.

When looking at a long list of apps, scroll the page/screen one app at a time, then you'll have no lag.
Like everyone's said, there's "lag" because the screen is generating/downloading/updating the blank app icons to the app icon's picture.

To the OP you seriously have some really bad problems with android. You were ranting about nexus and the updates now about the play store why don't you go with iOS or windows phone 7. I personally went with iOS for 6 months and yes there is less bugs (yes they do have bugs trust me ) but the system is so closed the you get bored at it ( at least I did ) and the app store takes longer on iOS ( I do still have my ipad tho ) but is just how it is. Nothing is perfect nothing will be. Personally I haven't played with windows phone 7 much so I can't give you any excuses but that it doesn't have the apps and some are too expensive. Please move on if you feel like it, I do no feel the phone laggy and I don't have problems with it. I don't look for something wrong I just use it as normal and so far mine everything works normal .
For the rest sorry for the long post. Please let's move on and forget about this

I'm stock and rooted as well. What could it be? Turned off forced landscape in both Nova and system settings everything to auto and still nothing...
Running JR6 ROM from Paul and just installed today. Everything works as it should on my end. I did install the tablet UI over the JR6 rom and I haven't touched the dpi.
App runs fine, but force closes alot. Happens on my galaxy nexus as well, so it may be a crappy app.
Works fine on my rooted AOKP Gnex at stock 320 DPI, but still just a blank screen on my rooted stock rom N7 @ stock 213 dpi. Tried uninstall reinstall and still just nothingness. Baffling.

[Q] Need Touchwiz For Nexus 7 (2013)

Hi,
I've been searching to see if a Touchwiz rom or just the Touchwiz launcher can be added to a 2013 Nexus 7. I see it has been done for the first generation Nexus 7 but nothing about the latest tablet.
I'm getting my 32 gig wifi Nexus 7 soon (fingers crossed it works fine and I won't need to send it back, can only get it from Google Play here in Canada) and want to install Samsung Apps on it which I've found on various ROMs on my Galaxy S3 only works with Touchwiz. I love the game Dungeon Hunter 2 and don't want to or don't even think you can side load it on a Nexus 7 (viruses have never been worse from downloaded apks then they are now) but found it on Samsung Apps for my S3. Not even sure if it would run even with Touchwiz on a Nexus 7 but is worth a try.
I don't want to try installing the Touchwiz launcher that works with the old Nexus 7, worried it would brick my device or something.
Any ideas?
Peace.
Framework problems. Looks like dungeon hunter 3 and 4 are on play store. I hopefully an apk extracted from your phone into the nexus would not require touchwiz. I don't see why it would

I did that on my S3, copied the DH2 apk to my sdcard, installed CM Kang 10.2, copied the apk back to the system/apps folder, and it downloaded the files and ran fine! Now I can run custom roms that are not Touchwiz and still play the game. Likely it'll work on my Nexus 7 as well when I get it Wednesday!!
I thanked you for your answer.
Peace.
Want the looks, go for this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322753
though I'm not sure if you'll be able to run Samsung-specific apps.
DH2 and MC3 Fallen Nation Not Working.
I tried side-loading these two apks from my S3, (they are paid for apps) but both don't run at all. They do not come from the Play Store but rather Samsung Apps which I have never been able to get to work without using the Touchwiz launcher. I could try the Touchwiz launcher posted in this thread but I'm not sure it would work on a Nexus 7. I hate to have flash my rom and wipe my Nexus 7 to stock CM.2 if it crashes it. If side-loading the apks doesn't work I doubt it would work downloading them from Samsung Apps anyway. The Play Store doesn't even have Dungeon Hunter 2 so even modifying the build.prop isn't an option.
P.S. I tried modifying the build.prop to get Mass Effect Infiltrator to work, got it to download from the Play Store but it crashes on starting it. I'm sure it is because doesn't support the resolution of the new Nexus 7, even disabling the navbar it will not run. The only thing I never tried was disable the navbar AND changing the resolution to one the game supports. It seems in some games the navbar messes with the resolution it's set at so you need to disable it for them to run. If you do this though you need a third party program to navigate between windows.
Figured this out from a post about the older Nexus 7. Disabling the navbar can be done on ours as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2457502&highlight=navbar
Read this about changing the resolution.

[Q] Any way to solve game compatibility problems?

I got myself a Nexus 7 as an early Christmas present and have been busy setting it up, updating and bringing over all my apps this weekend.
The shine of owning a brand new device quickly wore off when I discovered that pretty much none of my games now work under Kitkat:-
Modern Combat 2 - can't look around, icons all wrong size
Modern Combat 3 - crashes at startup every time
Modern Combat 4 - occasional crashes during multiplayer matches
Nova 2 - crashes at startup
Nova 3 - HUD graphics messed up, can't see ammo counter
Asphalt 6 - aspect ratio messed up
Asphalt 7 - crashes during free spin, random crashes in races
Asphalt 8 - has linked to my account on my old device and keeps telling me my cloud data is out of date
I know that Gameloft do not exactly have high standards of software development, and I know also that they NEVER update their apps properly. So I'm looking for ways to get my game library to work as I play these games regularly with my young son on local multiplayer.
Could I perhaps install a custom ROM in which these games work? perhaps downgrade to JB? does anyone have any ideas?

First off - are you running ART? If you don't know what that is, you probably aren't.
If you're not - then yes, jelly bean would be an option. check out CyanogenMod 10.2 for your N7. Of course, this requires a custom recovery and root, all of which can be done with this handy tool: http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
Good luck!

I'm not using ART - but might take a look at it later once I've had it for a bit longer. I'm already rooted and have TWRP courtesy of Wugfresh so I might give cyanogenmod a try. If not cyanogenmod could I perhaps flash a stock JB rom and somehow block it from immediately downloading the update (which is what it did when I first got it)?
Does anyone have any positive reports of better compatibility with JB roms on this device?

Not sure if you can block it from downloading the update, but what you can do is go to all apps, then uncheck notifications for google services framework which will get rid of the update notification.

You can block updates using Autostarts. There is also an app called Fotakill that is supposed to stop updates but I've never used it.
