[Q] Failed OTA update to 4.4 - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I got the notification last night for the update to 4.4 and proceeded with the install, it rebooted in TWRP recovery started installing and then after 5 minutes or so it dropped back to the TWRP menu.
I tried a reboot but whatever I try and do it always boots into recovery which I take to mean the upgrade failed and something is wrong with the boot loader.
I've tried to sideload the full firmware but it just sits there saying waiting for ADB mode and does nothing.
How can I go about rescuing my N7?
Thanks for any help.

I dont know the fix actually. but its not safe to do an OTA update when you're not in stock(recovery)!

I had the same problem. Apparently TWRP isn't working with 4.4.
It seems to be a rule never to OTA if you're not on full stock.
Anyway, here's a solution to get you back to a working 4.3 without loosing data. I just followed the steps and they work fine:
Flashing stock factory image
Afterwards use one of the guides to manually upgrade to 4.4

[Q] Not able to Boot any more

Good afternoon everyone, I was at work today and I went to reset my phone and when it was booting everything looked normal and then my phone went straight to TWRP. I tried rebooting and it kept on going to TWRP. I tried to flash my backup and that didn't resove the issue either. When I power on the phone I get "Secure boot error" in the upper left corner. I have been using this phone with out any issues for the past month and now all of a sudden I can't do anything. I need some guidance on what I can do to get this phone just back to working order. thank you in advance.
You'll have to flash stock

Have you been ignoring the OTA update? Funny how after a certain number of times it will just run.
From where you are, flashing back to stock is your only option. Then grab the OTA update, install tarp & root.

[Q] OTA Upgrade to Android 4.3 not working

Hello.
I have an AT&T SGH-I317. The OTA upgrade is being pushed, but my phone will not upgrade.
After the download, a Teamwin screen comes up, and after an error message that the "MD5 file not found", the TWRP screen appears, with no indication of how to proceed with the upgrade. I have just tried several different choices, including a factory reset, all to no avail. Before exiting TWRP, it advises that the phone doesn't appear to be rooted, and do I want to install SuperSU (which I've declined).
Can anyone advise as to how to go about the OTA upgrade? Using TWRP, or uninstalling TWRP?
Thanks.

From what I understand and my experience, you can't get OTA updates with a custom recovery installed. You need to have stock recovery.
There's a great post on going back to stock on these forums that has saved me a couple of times when I thought I bricked my phone. Roll it back and then give it a shot.

Just follow those instructions exactly and you should be back to stock in no time. Odin 3.09 cuts the flash time down to 3-4 minutes but 3.07 works just as good.

Finally bricked a phone... SG3

After years of successful rooting I think I may have killed an SG3.
I was running OTA 4.3 from vzw and wanted to root it. I ha used Casual in the past I tried it again and it failed. I noted it was for 4.1/4.2 so I tried to Odin back to 4.1 from OTA 4.3 Little did I know this was bad juju. Now I have a phone that won't boot, it keeps saying firmware upgrade an issue. I can get to download mode but have no idea what to try and flash to it since I've read that flashing anything less than 4.3 won't work and the 4.3 official isn't available.
So, is it dead?
there's so much hope for your fone

first of all your phone isn't dead alright there is so much hope for that device you have now.
ok boot to recovery mode and wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot system...
If that fails,i'll advice that you use an official SG os that your phone came with and flash it with odin...
yup that should help

i guessing u can boot into download mode...
since u downgraded the fone,i'm pretty sure u av EFS issue at hand
u should get a current CWM and flash using odin...then boot into recovery and do the caches clearing\
if it doesnt work...please explain ur problem properly to me so that i can help u out
The device is not rooted. So flashing CWM or TWRP isn't going to work.
Here's what I did:
1. The phone is running NON-ROOTED stock 4.3 OTA from VZW.
2. Decided to root device so I tried Casual's Root app which I later realised only worked on 4.1/4.2 devices.
3. Since step 2 didn't work I tried to flash 4.1 to the phone via Odin.
4. Step 3 caused the device to no longer boot. It gives a firmware upgrade error and will only boot into download mode.
5. I obtained the 4.3 OTA and tried to flash it via Odin, no go. It didn't work.
The phone is effectively dead with only download mode working.
Phone is not dead till you can get to Recovery or Download mode.
You possibly have problem of new bootloader which might not be downgradable.
My suggestion would be :
1, Flash some Custom Recovery like CWM or PhilZ through PC ODIN.
2. Enter Recovery and format System,Data, Cache and Dalvik.
3. Flash some 4.3 based Custom ROM. (download it and place it on your External SDcard before doing anything)
4. Clear Cache and Dalvik again.Reboot.
Good luck !!!
I tried to flash CWM and TWRP, both failed. However, the device rebooted and worked after flashing the failed TWRP.

E980 Keeps booting into CWM Recovery

I have the stock rom/kernel installed on my phone after being on CM11 for a while. The process worked fine and I have been on stock LG for about 2 weeks. This morning, I turned on my phone and it came up with a notification saying I can update the phone to a newer version. I clicked okay and it turned off into Clockwork Mod Recovery. It didn't update, and after waiting about 3 minuted I just went ahead and clicked on re-boot device. It showed the LG logo and then did the color rotation on the home button. Then it showed up Clockwork Mod Recovery again. So after rebooting and clearing user data, cache, and dalvik cache. The phone still boots into recovery. Please help! :crying:

flash twrp, reboot(say yes when prompted to fix root). If still in bootloop after that you will need to flash a rom.
same thing happened to me, was up all night trying to fix it. the solution was to use lgflashtool and flash back to a totally stock rom and start over. sure hope it doesn't happen again.

Its in the lg g pro general section.
I've tried to revert rooted 4.1.2 with CWM via LG Mobile Support tool, but I got completely unexpected result - phone was updated to KitKat, so you can try that variant too.
Never install OTA updates when using custom recovery, unless you want trouble. OTA needs stock recovery.

Flash TWRP via your current rewcovery then follow post #9 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53631232
Be sure to install the recovery I mention.
I really hate this bootloop issue and am really sad to see all these posts about people bricking their phones or getting bootloops etc.
I'm not saying that people are stupid or careless, it's just that we need a whole new set of recoveries, tools, etc for Kitkat and don;t have what's needed without causing problems.
I really wish I was a developer. I'd create all this stuff myself if I could.
I solved my issue just by flashing cwm on top of my old recovery, which is another cwm. Just glade that I didn't have to use the lg flashtools.
fix
1 . dowload this rom fom the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-g-pro/development/sphinx-pro-t2823312
2 . put it on your externel sdcard
3 . wipe and flash the rom , it has aroma instaler
4 .shose you model at the end shose the stock recovery ,
5. power off the phone off
6 .inter download mode , volume down , home buton , power
7 . the phone will ask you if you want to factory reset say yes
the phone will reboot
use freegee for new recovery , and if i was you i will stick whit that rom
clic thanks if that help
if you dont want to lose you data tray skiping etap 6 and see how it go

Newly bricked

So after a few months of being on a older fw that i rooted i decided to update. Downgraded fw, re-rooted, unlocked bootloader, installed clockworkmod recovery. Finally the last step - adb latest custom rom and reboot. Did the install via cwm and it failed.
Rebooted and now stuck at the amazon logo. I tried the usb keyboard trick a few times( printscr, alt,i) but mine seems to boot very fast directly to black screen with amazon logo. So at this point not sure if any way to recover....any ideas?

If it failed to flash... you rebooted because... The only way to get back to recovery is the printscreen method, but because you have a corrupt system, it's not going to be easy to trigger it.

I had this same issue, I attempted to install using the sideload command and it kept failing. To get the update to install, I pushed the update to the /sdcard/0 and installed from there, and it installed with no dramas.
No help on recovering your device though, just my experience in case it happens again.
Thanks for replies... I guess I'll try to get back into recovery again tonight. When pressing the 3 kb buttons... is it press and hold immediately after plugging the ftv on or is it repeatedly pressing all 3 buttons? If I do trigger recovery and restore, what actually gets restored? Is the the prior working version? Do I need to worry about it updating an losing root?
Btw I did push the rom to /sdcard/0 so not sure why it failed maybe bad download.
