hi all,
greetings from an android noob. i'll be getting a desire in a few days, so i started looking for tips, tricks, hacks and stuff online and came across xda. i got really interested in putting desire hd rom in desire. but you can imagine how my head is threatening to explode seeing all this ports and different versions.
what i would like is Desire HD ROM, possibly unmodified (except if modification is needed for stability, usability...), with this new Sense UI, working camera, the least bugs and glitches...
i've tried looking for opinions and comments but got lost in all these threads. i've found one with fresh info on rom development and updates, but haven't found one with comments on which port is the best (in your opinion). the best meaning speed, stability, features...
if there is such thread then please PM me the link and remove the thread. if not, i guess it would be useful to have all comments in one place. thx to all in advance.
cheers!!
insertcoin 2.0
I've made my best experience with RCMixHD. For me it's the best HD-ROM.
I have been using InsertCoin for a while now, was on 1.8h and now I have finally updated to the latest version. Its a great ROM, quite happy with it.
InsertCoin has the advantage of fitting on nand. You won't have to change your partition layout for it, so you even don't need s-off.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
that means less trouble when flashing rom, right? regarding performance, hd rom is quicker than stock one?
Can't remember stock Rom speed , but insertcoin is really fast and smooth.

In my experience, if you want
Sense - LeeDroid,
Sense HD - Insertcoin
Non sense 2.3 - Ginger villian
are the best.
Only had my Desire for a day but I'm loving the InsertCoin Sense HD rom. Seems very stable and performance is excellent.
I really enjoyed rcs hd rom try a few and decide
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I would recommend InsertCoin 2.0.1
Found Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861690
This is the best ROM I have used on the Desire, I have tried about 10 different ones before settling on InsertCoin 2.0.1
Good luck with choosing the right ROM for you.
Regards,
Aleks
insertcoin 2.0 with d2ext is realy smooth. the best DHD rom i have used
ownheredesirehd works best for me, no mods except for transparent app draw, rotation, etc.
Gets about 2700 on quadrant, (OC to 1190mhz)
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
looks like that insertcoin is a winer. fingers crossed I don't brick the phone...
thx for all your input.
does InsertCoin 2.0.1 support Arabic
in does not, how can I make it support arabic
please help
SuperRom V 1.5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11860001
I would agree with iNsertCoin 2.0.1 or if you want the rotating homescreen from the Desire Z then i'd suggest Cool Z as it's really stable, fast and still has all the features of the DHD counterparts (Skins, HTC sense.com, the ability to restore apps from your Google account etc) but try different ROMs to see what you are comfortable with (some roms are slightly laggy at times) and as long as you make absolutely SURE you've read all you need to know, you'll be just fine It took me 1-2 months before i was absolutely certain i knew how to get the ROM i wanted
+1 for InsertCoin
Added: I have stopped flashing other ROMs ever since I found InsertCoin (2.0.1), which was still called BaadNewz (1.4) at that time. It is the fastest, smoothest and the most stable HD Sense ROM available.

Many Thaks
So I am interested in trying the Nsertcoin rom, or another rom for my desire that has sense, but none if the threads I look through specify whether they are for the cdma or gsm desire
Is there something there that I'm missing? How do I tell?
Sent from my HTC Desire CDMA using XDA Premium App
Would anyone please give me the idea of its stability? I am trying to find a mod rom stable & can extend the battery life. Thank you
I'd sooner go with the 2.3d if I were you. I think that reading less than 10 last pages of the thread in question could give enough evidence to back up this statement of mine.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I find it works very well on my device, stable, smooth and fast, tried the GB builds and came back to 2.4.1. The battery life made me come back.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
LeeDroid 2.4.1 is very stable, it's the better froyo sense rom, you should try Gingerbread Sense Rom like InsertCoin or RCMix S, both are very good
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
2.4.1 is very stable , clean and fast. I like "sence" , and this is the best rom out there .

Same here. The only thing i disagree with is battery. GB are equally good now. I think even a little bit better when actually using the ROM (when phone is awake).
BUT, LeeDroid 2.4.1 is rock solid. All GB roms are based on TEST leak, and devs are porting stuff from sense 2.1 and 3.0 to them, which does cause few bugs here and there. It'll get there once official update is released.
I love the way Lee stayed away from porting stuff and just concentrated on optimizing existing software, adding most usefull addons you can find on xda.
LeeDroid 2.4.1 gets my vote for now, it's just to good not to use it
If you do not want Gingerbread, it is the most stable Froyo ROM, but GB has some advantages like battery RAM Management. If you will use A2SD, you may try InsertCoin Sense2.1 with GB.
+1 vote for 2.4.1
stable and smooth
skip 2.4.1 and go to LeeDRoid 3.0.x, might as well make the most of upgrading your system, and start getting used to Gingerbread!
Actually, that wasn't very helpful I guess. My bad. I've used LeeDRoiD roms pretty much since i first rooted, and I'd say they are up there with the best software you could want on your phone. They are definitely stable and pretty good on battery use. I only used 2.4.1 for a few days before i went to 3.0.2, but it was fairly solid.
Hi
I am new to rooting to my phone and would like to know if any roms that supports traditional Chinese and Korean?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I guess that the MIUI ROMS support that...considering they are made by devs who are originated in china and all.
You can find the version for our phone in their site here
Hope it helps.
Edit: I don't know if it supports korean. Also MIUI is fairly heavy on the phone. If I find myself some time and no-one has already replied, I might be able to look it up.
Thanks for the reply, is there a leedroid Rom for the HTC Desire Z?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I'm not aware of Leedroid for Desire Z. However, if you do not require a chinese UI, only the ability to read and write Chinese, then any ROM will have this ability.
For input you may need to supplement it with the likes of multilang keyboard for chinese input, if you choose to go with a non-sense RoM. Many sense ROMs will have the HTC chinese input method intact.
If you are a Mandarin speaker I'd suggest Google PinYin method anyways since its one of the best, and supports both tradition and simplified chinese.
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
MIUI has been made by japanese third-party devs. also i like RCMIX3D 4.0 ROM. and i thought that it also supports chinese and japanese.android 2.3.5 sense 3.5 download: http://uploading.com/files/7c69c9c7/RCMix3D_v4.0.zip/
I am in favor of the MIUI..great interface, stable and great performance.
Just regarding about overclocking the processor, would some of the time include the application to do this? I don't really need the Chinese input. I would maybe go and try out a few different roms as I have just downgraded to 2.2 and rooted the phone.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
You might try Andromadus if you're looking for bleeding edge. So far, its the smoothest and most capable ice cream sandwich build available. You can find it under the desire z/g2 rom development section, and I'll edit this post to include a link later. Or if you prefer a more stable, established rom try CyanogenMod 7.1 from CyanogenMod.com. both will support Chinese among other default languages, and are both far more capable than the stock sense rom and both include OC as well. Hope this helps..

Hi all,
I'm back and would like your input on good roms. I have been using Virtuous Quattro RC3 for sometime but I just don't like how the graphical glitches make me have to reboot my phone several times a day. I would like to use an ics rom.

I would HIGHLY recommend Ice Cold Sandwich, the homescreen is actually smooth and seems to be running at 60 FPS. It also has HEAPS of tweaks because it's based on AOKP. Give it a shot if you really want ICS.
Well, if u know chinese, u can go to the bbs.gfan.com to have to look at their rom. Although most of them are originally from xda, they may give u some different experience. U should check it out

Unless youre sold on the UI of ICS id give one of the Sense 4 roms a spin (taz's for example) theyre actually stupidly stable and smooth!

I would definitely try the MIUI roms. They're great!
I think Sense 4.0 is a disappointment. Tried it on my Desire Z and it's not what I expected. The stock Android is much faster and better.
The MIUI ROM's absolutely don't work for me... Found them very laggy, but it does have some great functionalities.
I just use JIBwich, a stock Android ROM as it is on the Galaxy Nexus.

I would very strongly recomend the ILWT CM7 build (available under the development section). You will never want to move away. Atleast that has been the case with me, after trying sense and miui, I found home with this one.
Its fast, issue free, pretty optimized (although got further optimization you can use v6, akmo or rmp) and is pretty frequently updated (generally on every major CM build).
Been using it for almost a few months and can't even think of moving, not to any ICS either (personally, don't like the virtual keys always on screen on the ICS).
Hope it helps - cheers!

You can try Andromadus Audacity! Very fast and stable for a beta! You can find this rom on android development thread of this section

I flashed to that rom. I really miss how the the suggestions for the keyboard in ics. Im glad to back on a fully functional on-screen keyboard that doesn't lag. I was using the unofficial cyanogen mod 9. It had issues here and there. I kind of miss ics for its looks.

Hi, please don't shout at me, I've tried a search but Tapatalk is utter useless!
I'm looking for a new rom, this time one without sense. Which kind is the fastest/most stable?
I'm not asking for a rom itself, but more of the type of rom, cm/aokp/aosp etc (are those abbreviations right?)
Thanks

I hate sense.
Been using BlackIce for months and find it quite good.
ICS roms not good for me, for now.
Try BlackIce. It's one of the best.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1298283
Or Cyanogenmod 7.2
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=ace
Both are AOSP (Android Open Source Project) roms. No sense, no flashy visual effects, just speed. Perfect.
I agree with joooe. BlackIce is the best and most stable. I would never use sense.
Absolution in the inspire thread is wicked good too.
Sent from a dream.
To be honest I like sense because it's 'pretty', but started to notice bits and pieces lag.
The two rooms mentioned above, are they on ics? Camera issues?
Sorry for the questions, I'll be back on pc later
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
BlackIce and Absolution are not ICS, which means camera works fine and they are both very stable.
With BlackICe I have 400 mb free mem at booting. Sense takes like 300 mb! No wonder it lags.

you can try IceColdSandwich - 8.4 - AOKP which is quite stable for daily use for ICS rom...
if you want to try on JB, you can try this Jellytime which is still in beta and testing...
Hi there,
Since last December, I'm using last version of Oxygen, but during this time I have an issue with camera. Every time I'm started the camera an error "SDcard is unmounted" occurs. I had to unmount, mount again my sdcard and really fast switch to camera application, sometimes two or free times in order to take a photo.
Now I'm trying to find stable ROM for daily use, but I see that developers gone from desire device, only few ICS ROMS, and as I red there isn't enough stable ROM for daily use.
What do you recommend? It could be JB, ICS, GB, the first goal it have to be stable without any major issues and without Sense.
Is way to have a stable rom? I don't want to come back to stock.
Im using EUROSKANK CM 7 rom, no problems, all is working. For me this is best stable rom.

I highly doubt that Oxygen rom is the one giving you issues as I find it one of the most stable roms out there. Have you even considered reflashing the rom and start clean again?
Anyway since you are on the lookout for a new rom then you can try the suggestions the the commenters above.

Thanks everyone for answers,
I'll reading about ROMs mentioned in your answers, for now Nick's Phone looks the best.
About my issue, I reinstalled Oxygen in January, with _total_ wipe: STOCK -> ROOT -> S-OFF -> Oxygen. Now I'll try to check my SDcard (it is 4Gb ADATA class 6, and is old like a phone) I will try to dd if=/dev/zero on this card, maybe this is card issue not rom.

The response is super quick and everything I wanted works (well, maybe except scrollable widget, but that's apparently a problem with GB rom), highly recommended!
Thanks for your reply. Im using an-droid now for about two months. Its nice clean rom but since I installed much apps its laggy. It also crash two times a week. I think it will be worse when I install runnymede because all the extra eyecandies. Are there better alternatives?

Well I tried all the ICS and JB ROMs but trust me, they are not for daily use. Random reboots, phone freezing and many other little niggles are a pain.
Then I tried the eye candy Sense 3.5 ones. Though everything works in them stability is an issue. Freezing, bsod etc are few issues I faced.
Back on to the stock GB with app2sd support (made by nlooo) and am happy.

I heard about it too. Only issue I found was that the development on it was stopped and so was apprehensive of the support.
Also the OP of the ROM says few users are facing freezing issues while an incoming call. I had this issue earlier too on the RSK teams ROM.
Anyway will give it a shot over the weekend.

I've had good experiences with Runny Rom too. I've used Runnymede AIO for a long time and also had those freezing issues you mention, but it's not only caused by the ROM itself directly. Most likely it's caused by the SD card. I've used 2 different 16GB class 6 cards (Samsung and Sandisk) and they both caused problems. I'm using a class 4 32gb sandisk now I didn't have any single freeze yet.
But, like said before, those sense 3.5 ROMs are quite heavy, probably the most heavy for your SD card. For stable and lagfree sense I wouldn't advise them. It might work, but can also cause a lot of problems.
