My camera button does not capture. When I press and hold the button all it does is turn on flash, focus, and blinks then makes a beeping noise. Is there any way to enable the camera button to capture?

Sorry what do you mean by rom? The android version is 4.2.2 and build number 10.3.1.A.2.67 if that's what you're asking for.

Are you sure that you pushed the button all the way down? It has 2 stages, 1st is to focus and after the beeping noise press it further and it should capture the picture.

Thank you so much, I was not aware of the stages. I just got the phone like a week ago, thought it was because I updated it to 4.2.2.

Hey everyone. I was using the camera app the other day, and it got me thinking that it would be incredibly convenient and practical to be able to use the volume rocker to take pictures instead of the optical trackpad. I've done a bit of searching, and I haven't seen anything about this in the Incredible forum, so if anyone has a solution or idea, feel free to let me know!
I agree. The optical jog is terrible. Almost impossible to hold the camera steady and use it.

Ditto.
Maybe even be able to rotate the camera app so the volume buttons are in the traditional location of the shutter button.
its like one of three things i miss about my blackberry storm. the camera button, the way that profiles and settings were consolidated into one space, and batch actions for messages (delete all, mark all unread, etc)
i hope that someone comes up with something for this. especially allowing camera to rotate would be great.
Camera zoom fx
Check it out in the android market

Hi,
--JPU version--
i modded the Camera.apk a bit.
Changes:
-take Pictures with pressing power button.
-Take pictures even if your battery is at 2%
You can apply it with my SGS Tools app or push it manually to /system or with Muspelheim (http://softdevs.wordpress.com/muspelheim/)
If you are not on JPU or newer, choose Camera_old.apk !
See the code changes here
Changelog:
Version 4:
-based on jpu
-exif data correct again
Version 3:
-focus before taking picture when using power key (not sure about it)
Version 2.
-use the power key instead of volume keys
Version 1
-initial release
Wow looks awesome, will try it! thanks

Then something went wrong, if you installed it via my app, check if busybox is installed.

Should work on all froyo firmwares, not sure about eclair.
I tried upgrade Stock Apps from SGS Tools, but nothing happens. No Change.
No point in Upgrade Stock Apps is changing my System.
Edit: Stupid. I forgot the checkbox.
You have root and busybox is installed?
Next version of the app will show if there appears errors while applying..

No everything works. Was my error, your app is working. The hacked cam is really nice.
Some suggestion for hacked gallery3d: enable autorotation at start and disable on exit.
Great work! Was searching earlier this week for an hack/app that would use the power button als capture button but could only find a very old thread about this on XDA.
Wondering why someone didn't attempted this before, it seems so natural. Samsung should have made this the default behavior in the first place, locking the camera with the power button caused pain when I accidentally pressed it the first time I got my SGS and it wouldn't respond..

Indeed it would. Either making it a selectable option or disabling it altogether is fine by me.
Nice work, btw.
Is there any way to turn off the screen while recording video?
Is there any way to remap the power button as the shutter when taking photos?
I know some other Android phones have apps and mods but I havent found anything for the EVO.

I dont think so, but there are apps in the Market that allow recording with the screen off.

Power button, no. There are ways to use the volume keys or the search button, however they require root and a custom rom.
Lmao sounds like your trying to make a dirty video candid style .

That was my first thought too.
I too would like something to make my volume buttons a shutter button when the camera is activated. Self pics are a nightmare when you have to try to push the screen when it's turned away from you. I'm rooted running Chogardjr v3.12 on an Evo 4G if it matters.

Not everyone on this board acts like a two year old in the real world.
I actually use the phone to log track sessions on a dashboard mount in my car. The video screen always on can be distracting.
The shutter button is a no brainer. The touch screen button is a PITA to use since you have to hold the camera a certain way to take any picture.
Thanks for your lack of help, Ill search around for some apps.
Folks,
Please, is it possible to use the physical button as shutter (while on camera) and answer/hangup call?
I need to use some bandages on my hands and every capacitive screen fails me... the S-PEN is definitively something that I'm eager to try (every other generic stylus fails on some level).
Thanks!!

Not in stock rom that ive seen, maybe a friendly dev could create a custom mod for you. You could use a camera app that responds to voice commands, that would solve part of your problem

This works well, and is fortunately included as an option on Samsung's default camera app (on the GT-N7100 at least). So fun to snap a picture by saying "cheese".

Rofl.. yeah it works... I think the phone thinks you said "shoot". Also it works if you say "sheet".
If you go to Settings>Accessibility you can chose to answer phone calls using home button and hang up using the power button. im using this setting as Im keeping my phone in a pouch and this way I don't have to take it out every time I get a phone call

Help, i have camera shutter button issue. It do well on the Sony's stock rom but another roms unworkable. The question is this button has two step press function.
the first step is doing image focus. this is doing well on all of roms.
the second step is my problem. it can not take picture even record video.
i don't know this is rom's problem or kernel's problem.
-.-

Using the real shutter button have real camera feeling.
i wonder this is hardware issue or software issue. it confused me.
i think this i my hardware issue but the original Sony's ROM didn't have this issue.
i had flash several ROMs, like ad MIUI, CM9, 10, 10.1, 10.2 base, and stock base. they usually have this issue but sometimes this button become functional. this will work well until next flash.
