Sign The Petition For Official LG Updates - LG Optimus G (International)

Hey guys, since 4.1.2 is pretty naff for most LG devices, I've set up, and am trying to launch a petition to get some action on some officialness for some of the flagship devices..
https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/lg-release-official-android-updates-for-flagship-devices#
Sign and share, and post everywhere you can, add to your signatures, I think LG will learn to finally listen and compete with their rivals!

Added to my Signature, Great, hobe we will get 2Mio people
share it on G2, 4xHD forum an LG General and herhaps on Xda News

We did it with motorola, nothing changed, nothing helped, with over 8000 people with us, from users of dext/cliq way up to the atrix, they still did nothing, so tell me, what makes you think LG, which ia worse than motorola, to update devices, listen to it? Not being pessimist, just realist.

Yeah it never works. Not pessimist either. Just experience.

It is considerably easier to update a nexus device than a non nexus device, since all a nexus device needs is for the device specific repos to be compatible with the newest OS, but LG has to customize the software, which takes more time and effort. The newest OS on their flagship G2 is 4.2.2. I guess their department simply isn't large enough to keep up with the others.

That's true but that phone wasn't getting it because it was CDMA and the whole fiasco with sprint and that device.... But according to rumors which are just that, a lot of different devices will get kk so there's always a chance... Especially with the hardware on this phone

Ah. The nexus 5 won't have that problem though. Very awesome that sprint relinquished control and lets Google update directly and use the same source.

Same version strings, same sources, same first-day update, no difference in any software or hardware compared to any US model. The only interaction Sprint has is provisioning, PRL/profile updating, and obviously service, but there's no option for Sprint firmware updates. It's all Google. Otherwise, a phone not bought from Sprint wouldn't work.

I agree with everything except sprints and googles part when it came time for the 4 3 update for that phone... Sprint wouldn't release new binaries which made it impossible for Google to update it...which was why we got crappy data when we moved on to 4.3 but..at any result me and a few other people contacted Google sprint and Samsung which they all pointed the finger at one another...which leads me to believe it was on sprint and that's why it didn't get the nexus 4 when it came out...CDMA lol...

VZW and Sprint Nexus sources and binaries were separate from the get-go. Every Nexus 5 has Sprint support in binaries and sources.

I've signed, but I've almost given up hope of us getting an update. Luckily we have some excellent developers who have some outstanding custom ROMs available to us!
I highly recommend the OmniRom and LiquidSmooth ROMs.

LG Canada has confirmed that KitKat is coming to the G2 in Spring 2014 but would not comment on an upgrade path for us Optimus G users

No info on carriers yet, why wouldn't it be on Verizon? Galaxy Nexus is.
IMO the Gnex on vzn is like the a red head stepchild compared to the others on different carriers. They had a it exclusively on release but bombed it when it came to updates, 3 month delay on jb....the G wallet fiasco... Idk just don't see it in the cards
Not to mention that all new vzn Samsung phones have locked bootloaders when they're wide open on the other carriers.

I just hope the off contract price isn't too bad. Although vzw nexus gets delayed updates it seems the delay isn't nearly as bad as oh say our phone. Ugh

True. But the otas are still needed for kernel source right? (Or does that worry vanish for some reason on a nexus?) I mean isn't kernel source why battery life on cm9/10 is meh for us right now? I think aeros builds are hacked up gb kernels, although its impressive how far he's brought things. Anyways I hate skins and much prefer vanilla android, hence why I prefer nexus. Different strokes for different folks I guess but I don't know why anyone would actually choose to run sense. If I was Google I'd be pissed all these companies are skinning android.

The thing is that Google tries to release timely updates for their own devices. The other manufacturers like to screw with things by adding their skin on top of the Android version and ruin everyone's day. Why can't we just get our updates or be given the option to choose what launcher we want!?! :'(

I seriously doubt Samsung would make a Nexus based on the Galaxy Note. And LG making a Nexus would mean that I wouldn't want a Nexus. I already stated why I wouldn't want one so yeah. The only Nexus I would ever want would have to be by ASUS or Samsung. I never want another Nexus from HTC ever again (not because of software but hardware issues).

I would buy a nexus 7, but there no Amoled screen. If Samsung made the 7 it would be the same (or better) as the GN. And it would have a 1080p display. Of course it would cost 300-400$, but in my opinion an amazing display is worth it.

Honestly, I think AMOLED is over-rated. Or at least, every Samsung phone I see looks way too blue, so I prefer the color quality of normal LCDs.

Question ... just fyi the dinc2 is my first android. So I confess ignorance on thus stuff. I know that moto bootloaders are virtually unlockable. But does this worry matter with nexus phones? And specifically with LG phones? I really don't care about manufacturer. I care more about raw competitive specs and the ability to get s off and root. Is achieving both typically easy on nexus phones? Or can they be released locked down like moto has done with all their droids to date? Thanks for any incite. I wish I knew half of what the average poster on here knows about this stuff. Love this board.

I'm glad your LG rep is actually worth a darn. Ours always came around and talked up the LG products but never knew much about them. We got some laughs when he told us Apple stole the iPhone design from LG. And honestly, they might have. But this guy was 1000% LG is better than everything, regardless of what it was.
Never gave us any insight on oncoming updates or new releases or anything, but he'll argue with you til you're blue in the face if you tell him a Samsung TV is better than an LG for any reason given.
Good news? You mean great news. But I am betting 3-4 weeks. I really want to be proved wrong. Jb update means new stuff to not be bored for a few weeks. Then it mean jb source and new stuff to not be bored for a long time. This phone could beat my 6 month record for a phone!

has anyone actually seen jelly bean running on an Optimus G yet? I know it's been released in South Korea, but I've been trying to find a changelog or something that actually shows the new features. I've been checking youtube everyday to see if there are videos of the new software, but nothing yet... which seems weird to me
does anyone have a changelog or even a video of the official jelly bean update running on an Optimus G?

It doesn't show a lot, but some of the features there look pretty slick. I liked the translate feature from the Camera, that looks pretty awesome.
EDIT: Do you think that this is due to the Optimus G Pro announcement? The two phones seem very similar and it makes sense that rolling out the one device with JB at the same time that they are updating the other is logical and fairly easy, right? Or am I stuipd? (see what I did there?)
Yeah that makes sense actually. I think the specs are relatively the same for both devices (obviously Pro is a bit faster and powerful, but I think besides the bump in clock speed, everything else is the same), and even then, I've heard the phones are the same but the Pro is just overclocked with the same processor. Here's an excerpt from the Engadget article when the Pro was announced:
There's now a quicker, 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro chip, a heftier 3,000mAh battery and Jelly Bean (albeit Android 4.1, not 4.2) out of the box. Other elements are familiar carryovers, such as the 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel camera, 32GB of built-in storage, a microSDXC slot and LTE
Click to collapse
So looks like the same chip, so my guess would be that it's just overclocked, so hopefully the Jelly Bean update will come soon. I think the Pro is set to release in April...hope they don't keep us waiting that long
http://androidos.in/2013/01/lg-optimus-g-worldwide-roll-out-begins-with-jelly-bean-on-board/
Looks like this might have something to do with it as well. The standard OG is rolling out to 50 countries with JB pre-loaded.

LG announces Optimus F5 and LG Optimus F7.

I see these same things about bad updates on every phone I've ever owned. When I had the thunderbolt everyone complained about htc. Then I had the droid charge and everyone complained about Samsung. The way I see it at this point is I don't buy a phone unless its good enough to begin with because you can't count on updates unless you buy nexus. Now every update I get is just a cool bonus. I love my optimus g though and I'm sure the devs here are going to do great things.

LG Optimus F7 = LG LTE III
I have ordered one from Chinese dealer. It will arrive in a few days.
The design seems very nice and even better than Optimus G. For one it just costs about 350 USD.
And also it includes a 2540mah battery, True HD IPS mon, MSM8960, 2G ram.
All reviews I saw show positive feedbacks. I suggest those who like the above feature should try.
I've been trying to find a store that sells optimus f5 ever since it was "released" in France, but I haven't been able to find a single store (in EU) that has this phone in stock. Has anyone actually seen this phone in the wild, available to general public?
I'd really love to get this phone because I absolutely detest huge screens of current "flagship phones", but sadly I can't fine one to buy.

official optimus f5 is in store in Hong Kong. it is nice but the screen is really not as good as the f7's true HD IPS. i don't get it there should be normally many dealers from china who would ship these phone to europe and us. maybe it's all the high tax making it not available in some areas.

uhh way to necrobump an old thread. anyways my money is on the qualcomm s4 chipset that was in the sgs3 last year.

LS980 4.4 update thread ZVC is here

Figured i would start this thread seeing as the Verizon has its own now. This way all of the sprint rumors, speculation and or whatever involving the 4.4 update can be put here. This way we are not digging through so many pages to find a few that relate to the sprint variant.
It's weird, Sprint is usually super quick at updates, if not first. Oh well, I think it will be soon, I can feel it.

From the same site. I saw this also reported on a couple other sites too but don't have the links. I'm betting Sprint is going to hold it but have no clue why. Maybe to push GS5 sales, but I have no clue why someone would want that phone.

They better not. If they hold the update until May I'll pay the ETF and leave them on the spot.

Considering they are just now rolling in. My buddy bought one this week and the sales guys was pressing him and another guy hard to buy that phone. The whole idea around note competition to. I'm just saying if I was head of LG I'd put 4.4 on my newest model first only because your newest version is sadly running 4.2.2

LG has already given KK to Sprint. They've been testing it for a while now. It's up to them to finalize and Ok it now. The Flex has been out on Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T for a month and 2 of them have updated the G2.

I haven't even had thus phone a month and I'm not feeling keen on the update interval. 4.2 really LG?

In LG's defense, when KitKat released in November, some variant's of the m7(HTC One) were still on 4.1.2. LG would have been stupid to update 4.3, it would have been a flagrant waste of money. LG knew in August of the existence of Kitkat(because PDK, and Nexus 5), so they just focused on delivering KitKat, and skipping 4.3. Hell, the Note 10.1 is skipping 4.2 AND 4.3, and going straight to KitKat.

Then you should have gotten a Nexus.

Also wasn't sprint the last carrier to get the LG G2? so maybe that's why we are last this time just saying o.o
My gf has S4 and got KK last night. So may be we are next.

I would have but at the time couldnt shell out the cash for the 32gb. 16 just isnt enough for me and honestly 32 sometimes becomes pretty close to cutting it.

from what i am seeing and hearing, No. you will have to .tot back to stock in order to take ota. or if those apps were backed up in titanium you may be able to restore them and take ota. Not sure on the last one though.
I suspect part of wait for 4.4 is that Sprint put a lot of resources into the 4.2 Spark Update when they would have been otherwise testing KK, other carriers were able to get more QA time on the new release and Sprint is playing catchup. (Personally, I wish they'd waited for KK to do Spark)

Really, you cannot wait two months for the update. I'll be upset if everyone else has it before us, went through that with the EVO 3D ICS update.

I would not get your hopes up for Sprint to release Lollipop to G2. Hardly any of their dealers have G2's in their inventory to justify this. When LS980ZVE rolled out, there was still inventory left to be sold.
With that being said, maybe some long-time Sprint subscribers can chime in and share their opinion on how likely it is for Sprint to roll out an update to a phone they no longer sell that has a successor.

First, I'm a long term Sprint user, since 2008. Good enough for you?
I'm mixed if we will see it or not. The point of the G2 is almost two years old and a lot of the original users will have a upgrade available. You never know.

Last I remember, they have to keep their devices updated for 18 months. So yes lollipop will come to us.

The Sprint G2 was released in November of 2013. It's barely over a year old.

There's no guarantee of that, but there should be. I'm just thinking about leaving Sprint in February 2016. Not liking what I'm seeing in newer phones not running well on the Sprint Spark network.

The lg g2 will get lollipop guaranteed, the galaxy note 2 was released in September 2012 and it's getting lollipop. Google updates its devices for 18 to 22 months we have many more updates to look forward to.
