So after painstakingly searching around for an answer on how to get OTG working on the galaxy s2 running a custom ROM and Kernal with little to no help i finally figured it out:
You will need:
OTG Cable ( Micro USB Host cable) (store bough or home made work, i followed this link: http://highonandroid.com/android-howtos/how-to-make-otg-usb-host-cable-for-galaxy-s2-or-xoom/ )
A Kernel that supports OTG ( I'm using { and could only find } http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/05/06/siyahkernel-v3-2rc1/ , there is an update to this kernal , but i have not tested the OTG support yet (May/7)
And last but not least, USB Host Controller APP : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hu.sztupy.android.usbhostcontroller&hl=en
Procedures :
1. Install the kernel by flashing it through CWM
2.Install USB Host Controller App
3. Restart phone
4. plug in usb device into OTG cable
5. Plug in OTG Cable to phone
6. TADAA
if you have any questions feel free to PM me or post a reply...
i had to change the steps from the link to make the OTG cable to make it work!!!
Homemade Cable Troubleshoot:
my cable was a samsung USB U2 cable, i dont know if this makes the biggest difference. but you want to short ( connect) pins 4 and 5.. one of the 2 solder points is the black wire from the usb cable ( ground) and if yours doesnt work with the pin he says to use, you can try plugging in a usb device into the cable and have the wire connected to the ground and simply probe the other pins until you find the pin that works! ( DO NOT CONNECT BLACK AND RED I REPEAT DO NOT SHORT BLACK AND RED, YOU WILL FRY YOU PHONE AND I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS, THIS IS YOUR WARNING!!!)
This kernel can work with Galaxy s2 duos tv gt-s7273T ?
I,m trying enable the OTG to my s2 gt-s7273T
This is possible? Using Jelly Bean 4.2.2 stock rooted
With busybox installed .
Please if possible help me
WOW! I have a faulty micro sd card so I could only backup to internal storage. Saw your post which reminded me I have an OTG cable that I use for my Note 4, I'm using CM11 and "hey presto!" CM11 recognizes external USB, no apps needed, I could/can make backups, Love my CM11
Glad I saw your post, Many Thanks, and Kind Regards!!

Thanks for your response , i know that i can run usb sticks but to run a mouse or controllers i need :
-an OTG cable
-a USB Y-cable
-a usb perhipheral (eg: mouse, keyboard, thumb drive, etc)
i need a kernel for self powered OTG which means that i don't need USB Y-cable !!!!!!!

i think what you need is kernel that could provide enough power for that
stock kernel has usb otg support but it doesn't provide enough power for your usage
but to connect mouse , keyboard, and thumb drive in the same time is quite much don't you think ? :silly:
hoping you could find the solution for that
how about trying trip's kernel ? or kholk's kernel ?
but only support android before 4.2.2
these 2 kernels have the otg support even before htc gave supportto otg officialy
maybe the parameter is quite different so the supplied power may be greater than the one now
just my opinion

There is no kernel that can do that, it is hardware related...imposible to do that without Y-cable

On phone after connecting nothing appears too?

Try reinstalling the usb drivers or use a different cable. Make sure you reboot after driver installation. Also, connect the phone with pc and go to device manager and see if it appears there. if it has a yellow triangle in the device manager then you need to update the driver.
Edit: when you connect your phone, does it start charging? because if that is not the case then your phone`s usb port might be damaged

also try another usb port, sometimes one usb port at my pc makes problems.
have you tried another PC?
Maybe is there anything corrupt whith your USB connector..
I had this issue and assumed it was the PC. One day I used the HTC cable that came with the phone and it worked fine. Turned out to be the cheap USB cables I got on ebay. Phone would charge fine, but would not connect properly.
Now I have several Type C cable including two 3.1 (Belkin and Anker) cable.
All charge fine, but I realized 3.1 cable has problem on file transfer (computer cannot recognize), but all 2.0 type C cables work 100%.
It's probably H918 isn't compatible with USB3.1.
---- update ----
Install latest USB driver fixed the problem

I can confirm. However USB 3.1 cables work for transfers in TWRP.
I figured out why.
Make sure you have latest USB driver.
If you have LG Bridge, update to the latest driver.
If you installed LG United Driver, make sure it's 4.2.0
http://tool.lime.gdms.lge.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=UW00120120425
After updated the driver, both 2.0 and 3.1 cable work properly.
I have 4.1.1 and it won't recognize my USB 3 cables, both from Anker... well, it won't recognize properly if I choose file transfer, but it works fine if I choose picture transfer or use them on USB 2.0 ports. any suggestions?

Try LG Bridge
BTW, the latest United Driver version is 4.2.0
Some crap with windows. It took me hours but I finally was able to get the usb 3.1 cable to transfer files. I couldn't tell you what I did though. It wasn't drivers though. It was all windows.
Is there any difference in charging times between USB 2.0 and 3.1, if you're using a type-C QC3.0 power adapter?

I'm also interested in this. I don't think there should be a difference.
I have a replacement cable.
I tried plugging in my device in my laptop using USB 3.0 port but it only charges my phone, it doesn't detect the MTP to transfer files. But when I tried plugging it in in the USB.. 2..0 port, MTP works.
My question is, is this because of the cable? Or is the A5 not supported by USB 3.0?

Mine works on a USB 3.0 port.
USB 3.0 should be backwards compatible to USB 2.0, so I think it's the cable. Maybe you could try again on a different pc? Just to be sure.
If you're using Windows check your device manager to see what it says, maybe a specific usb driver is needed?
i have same problem.
many time ago my phone (A5 2017) recognize with my laptop but after some update its not recognize in laptop but detect in office PC.
i do some work like change windows , reinstall add driver, use linux but not work in laptop. its now just work with one PC in office and other PCs not work. (
