For about a week now, when I bring the screen back on and get the log in, it's stuck in portrait mode! No matter what I do, it won't switch back to landscape, I have to log in, and then the screen will go back to landscape, any ideas?

if you have installed wanam it forces the lock screen like there. there is a checkbox insides its settings to allow rotation.

I can't seem to get my rotate icon to work on Developer Preview 2. I've turned off the Auto-Rotation option, but it's still not showing up. I wasn't a part of the 1st Developer Preview, but I don't think that plays a factor. Is anyone else experiencing this?

it works for me. it doesn't show up unless I rotate the phone.
I can't get it to appear for the life of me! It's driving me nuts!
if you have auto-rotate enabled in display settings, it will NOT show up. If its disabled, you should see the icon if you rotate the screeen
My auto rotate is turned off (not blue), but when I go to YouTube, for example, and attempt to rotate the phone, the rotate icon toggle doesn't appear. I cannot FOR THE LIFE OF ME figure out why.

Just tested and it appears to the far right of the home button.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
It finally works. It started showing up a few minutes ago. Go figure!
still doesn't work for me, have you done anything to enable it ?
No. It just started appearing. Very odd!
Ya. I can't get it to work either. Tried everything. Hopefully mine will "just start to work" to.
I just ended up doing a clean flash and now it works.
So one of the reasons I updated for beta was that auto rotation feature. That even if I have it disabled my phone will suggest me on my navigation bar that I can click and change the orientation of the screen.
However I don't know if it's only me but it's not working at all. I'm on YouTube , or chrome or any other app and that aware button that should appear on my navigation but just doesn't appear at all. Every time I want to change to landscape I need to scroll my status bar and enable it on quick actions.
Anyone expericing the same problem or knows how to fix it?
Thanks for your help in advance
Not me...
How did You get P? By updating or flashing the image? Did you performed the Factory Reset?
I'm also facing the same problem. I did ota update from DP1

From the normal view (video at top, details and comments below) if I rotate device landscape nothing happens.
If I press the expand icon in corner of video it goes fullscreen and landscape even when holding device portrait.

You clearly don't know what I'm talking about.
We this video with the new feature is Android P. Around 2m20s it shows the new feature that, even if you phone has the auto rotation OFF, when you rotate your device, a new icon appears on your navigation bars where you can tap and change the display to landscape. All with auto rotation OFF. To give you the opportunity to change it or not. If you have the auto rotation ON, Everytime you change your home orientation, it will go landscape mode even if you don't want to.
So that's the feature that's not working on mine. With auto rotation OFF ( how it should be ) when im in chrome, in YouTube , in all other apps and I change my screen orientation I don't get the icon appearing in navigation bar.

Sorry for the confusion.
What I mean is auto rotate works fine.
Even the new feature of rotation suggestion also works fine for me.
Check my screen shot attached. Rotation suggest icon is properly appearing in my nav bar when auto rotate off in youtube. However the icon appears for few seconds time limit and when we click it it stays with nav bar to re-rotate.
I shared build number to see there might be any differences due to region or something etc...

Yeahhh it's exactly that. I don't know why it doesn't appear on mine . It's so useful when I'm at bed watching YouTube...
You did anything to activate it or it just appeared?

I did not do anything to activate. It is working as is. Apart from changing auto rotate couple of times, nothing else I did w.r.t rotation setting.
Is ur build number same as mine?

Try to turn on Auto-rotate in Quick settings or go to settings>display and find it there.

Found a simple way to check if auto rotate screen is activated.
Swipe down from top of screen.
On my Samsung Galaxy A50 it's the 4th icon from the left. Mine was not activated for some reason.
I pressed icon to activate.
Problem now solved.
This is just one way of changing setting, and to me the easiest.

Swiping down the screen is called quick settings or qs in short
Did not know that "quick view" was referring to pulling down from the top of screen. I found it in the display by chance. So in the end my question was answered several times. I thank all who responded so quickly. Cheers ...Peter
My P6 Pro is doesn't always auto rotate (it is enabled in QS) I'm rooted (Magisk 24.3), and am on April's FW. I am using Nova Launcher Prime v7.0.57. The other bug I have is: I have home screen folders with 8+ shortcut Icons inside. When I am in portrait mode, I can swipe up to scroll through the folder's icons, but when the phone is in landscape mode - the folders are not scrollable. only the first 6 icons are viewable Is this just me or anyone else with Nova Launcher Prime v7.0.57 can try this?
EDIT... Nova settings--> folder--> window-->immersive. fixed the folder scroll issue
but still have the auto rotate issue
I'm using Nova Launcher Prime v7.0.57, and one of my folders on my home screen (technically in my dock) that I have set to open the folder when I swipe up on works perfectly for me in landscape and portrait including scrolling to get to the additional items in the folder. Tried rebooting?
Edit: Disregard about the folder - I see you found the cause.
Regarding auto-rotate, I think my auto-rotate has been better than it used to be. It mostly affects me when I'm using Google Reader and it didn't always rotate in a timely manner - but I also haven't been reading lately. Rotating on images or videos have always been fine that I recall.
The auto rotate on my P6P is messing up sometimes too, but I'm on completely stock and unrooted. Fully update to date as well.
Sometimes when I rotate my phone into landscape mode it doesn't change, even if I wait a while, so then I rotate it back to portrait mode to try again but as I'm rotating it back to portrait mode it then momentarily DOES switch to landscape mode for a half second and then back into portrait mode since I'm now holding it in portrait mode.
Doesn't work when playing back videos for me.

To add to what I said previously, you could long-press the auto-rotate Quick Setting tile, and if it's enabled by default, which I think it is, then you can disable "Face Detection", which is supposed to make it a smarter auto-rotate in case you're looking at the phone from a weird angle so that it only rotates when it makes sense to.
I turned that off some time ago although I may turn it back on eventually to see if it improved.
