Help needed to Root and install latest compatible android on HTC One V - HTC One V

Guys I own a HTC One V for past 1 year. now since the warranty is over I am planning to root the phone and thinking of installing custom ROMs
The only issue is that I am completely new in this rooting/custom rom business. In other words I am complete noob.
Please make things simple for me and help me step by step so that I can root my phone.
After rooting please guide me in same simple manner how can I install custom ROMs on my One V?
Please give link of latest and supported custom ROM for One V? Which version is currently available for this phone? 4.2 or 4.3? Can I by any chance get 4.4 on this device?
Please guide!

Didn't got your point?
PS - Why my profile picture and signatures are not appearing? Is this because of junior member status?

I've wanted to say that HTC (as far as I know) is the only smartphones provider that let users unlock bootloader and root devices with step by step guide trough their official site. You have to google "HTC One V root" and search for htc.com site
I'm wondering why they won't sell unlocked and rooted devices

New T-Mobile G2 Touch - Rooting / Rom Question

All,
Sorry about if this is a duplicate post, but can anyone confirm if the procedure http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4257045&postcount=38 is still good for rooting a G2 Touch phone?
I have been using mine for a while and am eager to be on a later version of Andriod. Do the new builds have the HTC Applications (such as bookmarks where you can take photos) or are they free of these applications?
If they don't have them, is there anyway I can add them?
Many thanks.

Do you want to root your phone or put a new rom on? Rooting the phone will only allow you to run apps which require root access, most custom rom's have root built in and can allow you to use v2.1 of android os. If you want to put on a custom rom then follow my guide in my sig if you just want root I think that guide is good.
Read the custom ROM topics to see what apps or tweaks have been made.
If your Hero is a newish uk T-Mobile one, the first method in that sig may not work. I had to use the goldcard method, what HSPL You using?

Use this guide: "[Guide] Newbie Guide to Install a Custom Rom [Updated 19/03]"
I have same phone as yours (HTC G2 T-Mobile) and did everything nice in few hours of carefulness and now my phone is happy with latest Villain 4.0 Beta2.
P.S. everything worked 100% with golden card method which is explained there in noob level.
Good luck!

The link in BTDAG's sig is the same one EDISMX is referring to,... and yes, the Goldcard method that BONESY mentioned is also explained there, by far (in my opinion) the best tut for beginners on here.

[Q] 2.42.415.1 not rooted yet ..!!

Hi all,
I follow the instructions in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152233 from CuBz90

downgrading 2.42 is not yet found.........
we must hav to wait........
Thanks man i just wanted to know if it will work on my 2.42.... .
Hello,
I think it should works. This is using the Goldcard method. The goldcard is a general method which should not be dependent on the phone version !
With goldcard you can install other OFFICIAL stock roms.
In the field of Android custom ROMs, what a Gold Card does is letting you install ROMs on your Android device that aren’t intended for your carrier. For example, if you have a T-Mobile USA HTC Desire, you can install an official ROM intended for the O2 UK HTC Desire, or even a generic ROM that isn’t locked to a carrier. It does so by disabling the CID (Carrier ID) check that the device does when installing a ROM.

Using the goldcard doesn't need any root permissions. It is a htc way to use other official stock roms. First you try to downgrade to official stock rom 1.32.405.6 then try to root this version.

Am Still waiting since along time.. for a hope
i agree with you ,knowing someone is working on it is good and hopefull.

A new HTC One V User needs guidance...

Hello everyone,
I have just become a new Android user and I'm absolutely loving it. I heard about rooting and how it could be dangerous as well as beneficial. I got a SIM-unlocked HTC One V (GSM Version) and I'm too worried to root it without knowing the margin of risk that comes with rooting it. If it is little to no risk could someone please post a tutorial on how to check your firmware version (for example: IML74K), and how to flash a custom kernel? I also heard about one-click rooting. Is it safe and what precautions should I make prior to rooting in case something goes wrong?
Thanks in advance,
-M

[Q]About to root my HOX.How not to brick?

Hello pro's I am just here to make sure my device is safe..I want to install cm10 4.1.1
But I'm afraid of bricking.I would like to hear, when does it brick?
Why?
Is it possible to avoid bircks?
And if it happens can I unbrick both soft and hardware brick?
So basically what should I consider before installing roms so that my phone is safe?
Thanks alot.
There are MANY posts regarding these sorts of questions.
If you follow the instructions on the Rom threads, you will not brick.

So,it's all about doing correctly the process?
Isn't there some kind of hardw. unmatch or some lists(I saw your phone has to be on some list to be able to get JB..)?
For the custom roms based on the leaked htc jb, your phones cid must be in the list of supported ones. Otherwise, you are free to use custom jb roms such as AOSP aokp or cm10 roms.
I read sometime ago that with s-on, it's nearly impossible to brick your phone. Just make a nandroid backup of your current setup before you start experimenting.

Not sure what you mean about having in app purchases?
Try this video, took me 10 seconds to find using the search function. It contains all the info you need on rooting your phone.
You should really use the search function though as there are MANY threads on rooting the One X.

Better to have too much info than not enough though.
Just take your time and research before you attempt it. You'll find it easy after the first time. Have fun!
I had followed this thread when I first rooted my HOX.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069904
It's pretty simple once you have read it twice!
Its very easy:
1-first you should unlock your device using htc dev.
2-installing a custom recovery. (cwm is a good choice)
3-installing superuser zip from recovery.
