[Q] [RECOVERY] CWM Touch 6.0.4.3 .tar thread? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

While flashing various ROMS it can be advantageous to go back and forth between CWM and TWRP. TWRP makes it easy to jump ship as you can flash it as a zip. CWM is a bit more tricky, as far as I can tell, CWM can ONLY be flashed in ODIN. (Correct me if I'm wrong here,I'd love a flashable CWM zip)
I noticed the link to CWM touch recovery in the how to root thread is several versions behind the latest (6.0.4.3 is current, and the thread references 6.0.2.5). The pain in the butt part is that CWM downloads are in .img format and ODIN is looking for a .tar or .tar.md5 format.
In Arch Linux I converted the .img to a .tar.md5 using this website as a guide. All went well and my flash was successful. Since I can't attach .md5 files to this thread for some reason, I've attached "recovery.tar" an ODIN flashable CWM 6.0.4.3 . I think ODIN will flash a .tar anyway so it shouldn't be an issue.
My question is, would it be acceptable to start a thread in Development or Original Development where I could always upload the latest version of CWM for download as a flashable .tar?

For now, the "General" section would be fine. I suggest you review the guidance posted regarding what is Original Development and what is Development as that may help you too. Thanks!

I'm looking for a .zip version of the newest CWM (non-touch). I wish all three versions were available on their site.
And Odin or adb install is currently impossible from this computer, sadly, so I need to flash within cwm already.

[Q] Make clockwork mod zip into odin tar

Recently clockwork mod is shot for me, It won't do anything to put it simply.
I have searched these forums for 3 weeks trying to find a solution and thus far haven't come up with one. Odin however, works flawlessly. So my question is it possible to take a zip file that you flash via clockwork mod and make it Flashable via Odin instead?
although I am unsure of being able to package a tar from a zip I have a question for you. how are you flashing your cwm? if its through rom manager it won't stick. you need to odin a kernel packaged with cwm to work.

Running Calk's Rom with his recovery that is pre-packaged, I have manually installed clockwork mod via Odin with no luck. Flashing a zip after just results in it hanging (Loads the boot animation and then turns off, or just doesn't load the boot animation at all.) Restoring a backup fixes it (Which leads me to believe its not flashing the files correctly)
oh ok gotcha. well I hope you get an answer soon

If you have any other ideas as to what it might be please let me know, I've completely exhausted my ideas...
I would use this tar. its gunslinger. http://db.tt/XSVcu2it remember to flash it in pda section of odin let me know if it doesn't work k.

All you have to do is take the zImage out of the zip and use 7zip or similar to create a tar file. You should be able to flash that with Odin.

[Q] Trying to Flash TWRP with Odin

Hi All,
I've got Odin installed, it's working as it should, I see my T989D as "Added!!!" so I know it's connected.
Now, I'm trying to wrap my head around flashing TWRP with Odin, I believe the version of Odin I am is 1.8.5.
I've looked everywhere for instructions on flashing TWRP through Odin, but I can't find any. Nor can I find the appropriate file to flash in Odin to install TWRP, every file for TWRP is a .zip or a .img, Odin flashes .tars.
Any help is greatly appreciated, trying to recover bricked device.
Cheers!
I'm not sure if I've read anything about flashing TWRP in ODIN, but I'm sure you can follow the plentiful guides to flash CWM in ODIN. After you get a working CWM then you can flash anything else you want (including TWRP)

Ahh, never considered this approach, I figured I could go directly from Odin to TWRP, but I think you're right, thanks! I'll give this a shot, anything is better than the brick I am left with right now.
Cheers!

I think it would work if you renamed the the image to "recovery.img", compressed it in tar format, and then flashed it as PDA. I'm 99% sure it would work, unless odin needs signatures.
Someone did make an Odin flashable TWRP file. Here you go!

I have flashed Android 4.3 and performed a backup of Ultima 15.1 on 4.1.2. Can I use TWRP to restore the backup and go back to 4.1.2?

[Q] How do I flash CWM over TWRP? Rom manager not an option

Hi,
I have a Bell Galaxy S3 that has TWRP installed right now, but for some reason, only about 1/4 ROMS I try to flash on it lately, doesn't work. I would like to give CWM a try again, but I can't seem to find a way to flash it back. ROM manager doesn't give me the option and I can't find an up to date flashable TWRP or ODIN .tar file.

CWM will replace TWRP.
6.0.4.5 is the latest CWM and is needed to flash 4.4.2 ROMs.

I'm in a similar position with TWRP already installed but ROM manager gives me the option to flash CWM. If I use ROM manager will it still replace TWRP? I'm assuming it does, but I wanted to double check first.
PS I'm running an LG Optimius 4X HD, but a Google search for my question brought up this thread, which saves me starting my own.

I would not use Rom Manager. I would download a flashable zip made for your phone and flash it from TWRP. Alternatively, you could install it via adb/fastboot.

Thanks for the suggestion - is that done just by putting the zip onto the phone and using the "install" function in TWRP, just like flashing ROMs?

Yes. Personally, I used the latest release of Philz Touch which is based on CWM. There is a version that can be flashed via a custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) and a tar version that can be flashed in the PDA section of desktop Odin.

The official download off the CWM website is a .img - will that work or do I need to compress it to a .zip? Thanks for your help, especially given I don't really belong on your section of the forum!

TWRP wont install

Hi
i have just rooted my n7105 and installed Goomanager, but after TWRP downloads & installs, when i reboot into recovery it just comes up with the stock recovery.
Can someone explain how i can install it via Odin and where i find the TWRP 2.4.4.0 md5 file that i believe i need for this.
Thanks
Pete
Honestly that Goo Manager is sh!t, does nothing. Had the same problem, then saw several other posts that it doesn't work for many.
Just download the .tar, and flash via Odin or Mobile Odin, or if you already are on a custom recovery then download the zip and flash from your current recovery.
And uninstall that Goo thingy

Thsnks, but do you have any instructions on how to do this using Odin as I'm new at all this and don't want to mess it up
Yeah download the latest twrp in tar format. Then flash it through pda tab in odin. The procedure is identical to how you rooted the phone just the files are different
this is XXXDDDAAA
Thanks, i have now downloaded the file, its in a Rar format and named "openrecovery-twrp-2.4.4.0-n7100.img" do i need to Unrar first, or do i just point odin to where the Rar file is saved?
i have looked inside the Rar file and it has one file in there called "Recovery.img"
Thanks for your help
Pete
This is where i got the file from "http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/n7100/openrecovery-twrp-2.4.4.0-n7100.img.tar"
All done, thanks again for your help

[Q] CWM Recover Fail... Help???

Ok... I'm a complete noob (saibot) when it comes to recoveries. I've been used to rooting for years but never wanted anything other than the stock rom/recovery until recently when I had to unbrick my phone after making a stupid error. Now, I want to gain acceptance into the CWM world and for some reason it isn't working.
What I've tried:
1) Downloading the recovery from the CWM official website. I downloaded the touch one.
2) Since the file was in img form (why?) I used a converter to change it into TarMD5
3) I tried flashing it with Odin 3.09
4) It showed a green "Reboot" where most have shown "Recovery" in the videos I watched before attempting.
5) And that's all it did was reboot instead of installing the custom recovery.
What did I do wrong? And why am I not as awesome as I think I am? Help! :crying:

What you did wrong was using or trying to flash/use CWM recovery in the first place.
Here is the correct way to flash root and custom recovery:
Step #1
Download and Odin flash cf-autoroot: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45687485/CF-Auto-Root-hltetmo-hltetmo-smn900t.tar.md5
Step #2
Download and Odin flash TWRP 2.7.2.0: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45687485/TWRP_2720.tar
After doing the above you will no longer have any root or recovery issues.
For best results use Odin v1.85 which can be found here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45687485/Odin85.zip
Good luck!
Thank you for your reply.... So, am I to understand that CWM will not work at all on my Note 3?
Before your reply, I tried out TWRP 2.8 and it was really laggy... Should I go and get 2.7.2 instead?

Lot's of people have been having issues with cwm recovery ever since
the NF1 official Samsung N900T firmware was released.
TWRP 2.7.2.0 works perfectly on all N900T Note 3 roms.
The download link I posted is specifically made for the
Note 3 N900T, not all versions of twrp work properly with
all phones and or all models.
Good luck!
