Unroot with heimdall - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Can someone point me in the right direction for unrooting my phone via heimdall? I've been searching for hours and seems my biggest problem is finding a stock ROM link that is not broken. I know i've done it before but cant get it. I have a few files that I thought were stock ROM's, but I havent had luck. Both of them I extracted the zImage file and flashed with heimdall but I'm still rooted both times. It seems I may need to flash another file besides the zImage file. I only have acess to Linux computers...
Please help.

So, I may have done it before I read this post. I'm not sure how to know if I have the latest version on my phone now.
When I look at "about device", I have android version 4.1.2 and build number: JZO54K.SPH-D710.GB27.KOB.TWv4.34A
I had this file: SPH-D710_SPR_D710USGB27_D710USGB27_Original.zip
Which I extracted these files:
KIES_HOME_SPH-D710.GB27_D710SPRLS1_1014481_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
SS_DL.dll
I extracted the tar.md5 file to get:
cache.img
factoryfs.img
hidden.img
modem.bin
recover.bin
zImage
I put my phone in download mode and connected it and flashed zImage via heimdall:
sudo heimdall flash --KERNEL zImage
My phone restarted and I did this from terminal emulator
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
rm /system/xbin/su
rm /system/bin/su
rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
reboot
I guess I am unrooted, I try to do a software update and it says I have the latest version.
The whole reason I unrooted was because I got some bluetooth headphones and they would play for about a minute then it would just pause my music and my device would eventually freeze and reboot. Most the time it would get stuck while booting as well. I thought maybe the root had something to do with it. I still get the same problem though. I wanted to take the phone to Sprint to see what they tell me. Since then, I have tested them with my rooted Galaxy tab 2 10.1 with no problems.
Also though, while I was rooted I had flashed a tweak that muted my boot sounds as well as camera shutter. I have also performed a factory reset after unroot and still have silent boot and camera.
Please advise.

Yes GB27 is the latest, not sure what else you want

I guess, I just wanted verification my phone is unrooted. I wasnt sure since the sound did not come back even after unroot and factory reset. I did download SU and root checker and that verified for me. Thanks.

[How To] Root FB17 after flashing stock unrooted .tar

I've had no success in flashing the pre rooted .zips through clockwork. Shabby's would not boot past samsung screen for me and the other one posted in general by saladinacc had no data. When I flashed the .tar everything worked fine just had no root. Here's the way I got root.
1. Download ODIN & flash FB17 .tar from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1505437.
2. Download a GB kernel with built in recovery, I used Rogue Kernel here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341564.
Download .tar and flash through ODIN. Do not try to reboot into system as it will not boot yet with the GB kernel.
3. Download SU.zip from here http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip. Boot into CWM recovery and flash su.zip. Again, do not try to reboot into system as it will not boot yet with the GB kernel.
4. Download stock FB17 ICS kernel from here http://www.mediafire.com/?f571n4e8wdhud21 and flash through CWM.
Reboot to system and you should have rooted stock FB17.
After flashing back the stock FB17 kernel you will lose clockwork.
This is just a quick and dirty work around until the devs release a pre rooted CWM zip.

thinking about giving this a try. Just one question, after Odin'ing the GB kernel, doesn't Odin Automatically try to reboot you into system? How do you stop it from doing that so you can boot into recovery and flash su...etc.?

I haven't tried yet, but can we just unselect the Auto-Reboot option in Odin? If not, just when the phone is about to reboot, hold down power and Volume Up and it should go back into Recovery.

I was at one time running cleanrom. But, I bought a AllShare Cast Hub with my 50% coupon. I can only get that to work on stock. So, I went back to bone unrooted stock, took the OTA than granted multi view, then ran the auto root with Odin. Then I took the newer ota. It still says modified, and super su is still installed. When I open super su I didn't get any sort of error. So, I ASSumed I was still rooted.
But, when I dig deeper and tried to get root access I am not actually rooted anymore. I wonder why it says modified then. I expected to lose root, but I also expected it to remove super su.
The ota downloaded, rebooted, installed, with no hitch, when I was rooted. So, root doesn't prevent the ota from downloading. But, root was the only modification I made, nothing else, otherwise the AllShare cast doesn't work.

I did a similar update with the LK7 OTA update. I was stock rooted with all status at normal and flash counter at zero. I installed Voodoo OTA RootKeeper (v2.0.3) and ran it to get a protected copy su binary. Then let the phone flash the OTA update and reboot. I too still had SuperuserSU and appeared to be rooted, but when I tried to launch Titanium it couldn't get permission. I had to open RootKeeper and re-apply the protecyed copy of root, then everything was fine.

Maybe your cable is bad and it caused the partitions to be screwed up during the flash. It almost sounds like the data partition thing that was plaguing users for a while.
Try checking the option in Odin to wipe or reformat partitions. I'm not at the computer so I can't say exactly what box it is.

Is it suppose to stay on setupconnection for awhile?
Not really, maybe a few seconds. I always had trouble when I had the USB connected before opening Odin. I usually open Odin, boot into download mode, connect the USB, then after I see the COM port pop up I will select the tar and flash. I never really needed to select re-partition though.

Please tell me, i'm having the same issue as you
Instructions:
1: Download a GB TW ROM (EG30 STOCK ROM)
2: Download the provided pit file HERE
3: Open ODIN 3.x
4: Place the EG30 ROM in the PDA slot
5. Place the pit file in the PIT slot.
5a. Make sure the Re-partition box is checked (located on the left side)
6: Put your phone in download mode.
7. Plug it in, and click start
This method worked for me. It may or may not successfully work for you. So try at your own risk.

You could possibly use EL29 since the partitions are the same, you will need an EL29 PIT file. I suggest using what was already linked so that you don't have to go on a wild goose chase.
EG30 was the first GB release. Just use that then follow the OTA path up until FL24 ICS. Then use Kies to update to GB27.

What method did you use to root the phone?
If you have customer recovery installed, I think that cannot be fixed.
I use CF Auto Root
1. Root using CF Auto Root
2. Use TriangleAway to reset counter
3. Install OTA RootKeeper to keep root
4. Factory reset
5. Problem solved
For another question, Samsung only release app2sd fix to I9505 in certain country. Still long way to come to T-Mobile.

The apps 2 sd is available in the MEA release for Germany. You can find it in the 9505 section. It can be flashed to Tmobile phones as long as you flash a tmobile kernel right after. I am using an MEA rom right now. The pop up message is because you have rooted and flashed custom firmware to your phone. Your device is now "custom" and cannot recive stock OTA updates. Unless you use triangle away by Chainefire.

If you are keeping stock rom and want to install OTA directly. I recommend you root and keep the stock recovery, like what I did.
Most of the people install customer recovery because they want to flash 3rd party ROM.

Wiping cache/dalvik-cache is the ability of custom recovery, not rom.
With stock recovery, I am not able to wipe either one but I can wipe dalvik-cache manually using a root explorer.
I am sure you can find a command to run in terminal emulator to wipe cache and dalvik-cache.
I still like cachemate
Root is necessary:

With stock recovery, I am not able to wipe either one but I can wipe dalvik-cache manually using a root explorer.
I am sure you can find a command to run in terminal emulator to wipe cache and dalvik-cache.

I meant recovery...
So do I now have the revert back to stock recovery or just follow those steps?

I don't think there's a simple way to restore stock recovery only.
If you really want to, you have to restore everything through flashing the stock odin tar.

Not able to flash recovery.. help please

Hello all,
I was hoping one of you can help me. I purchased an s4 m919 yesterday from Tmobile. It is fully stock and it arrived with 4.2.2 M919UVUAMDL.
I am no stranger to the world of rooting, roms and cwm. I had an s2 back in the day so I am no stranger to odin either. Basically my goal is this:
1. Install CWM
2. Backup Stock FW in CWM
3. Install Custom rom from dev section
My process with odin is as follows:
make sure all is UNchecked except auto reboot.
place appropriate cwm tar in "pda" section
click start.
The process begins and instead of passing it fails. My phone also softbricks and I have to restore with kies.
I've already restored and bricked once thinking that maybe the first time was a bad download.
I have no ideas. I've googled and searched on xda and nobody seems to have a problem flashing recovery.
Let me know if more info is required.
Thanks,
frustrated and confused
Are you rooted? Try installing through the Rom Manager app itself?
After you have rooted download cwm from market and follow the prompt's once clock work mod has flashed do a backup and you will need to download ad away by chain fire this will reset the flash counter and once that is done enjoy flashing

Well it looks like ive run into a more immediate problem. Like i said I tried it once and it bricked I succesfully recovered with kies. I tried another download and the same thing happened. I went to restore with kies and now im getting an error in kies about 70% in. I need to go to emergency recovery and I do and that errors out. If problem persists contact samsung. Great.... I'm going to try and restore to stock using odin but my phone just seems to hate odin.
Edit: i tried restoring stock image in odin and fails almost right away. what is with this phone ?!
Try another USB port, and stock USB cable if you aren't using it. If you are grab a different cable and try it. If still errors out try another computer.
From my understanding you should have auto reboot UNchecked when Odin flashing CWM. Pretty sure you're supposed to leave everything unchecked and then after it's finished you unplug, pull the battery and then turn on the phone. Looks like your problem is before this though, so I would try another computer and make sure that you're using the stock cable.

I'm almost 100% sure the cable was your problem.

No I am not rooted and prefer not to be on stock since I want to just back it up and install a custom rom anyways.

Yes I think so I don't think having auto reboot checked would cause it to fail so bluntly. Am i just destined for a stock sgs4? Times like these makes me miss my nexus 4. I wish the damn thing hadn't broken=( oh well.. let me know if you have more questions.
Just follow a video step by step if anything. I prefer TWRP over CWM. If you do use TWRP make sure you use version 2.5.0.2 as 2.6 has been having problems!

I'm the opposite. I like cwm the best. I have watched a video honestly. I have done it step by step. do you think it could be the recovery? meaning, i'd have better luck with twrp? I'll try it tonight, I can't afford to be breaking my phone during business hours lol. People have been trying to call me lol.

Just get into download and flash cwm recovery tar using odin. Place tar file in pda section and hit start. Should reboot after pass that's what I did last night when my recovery was missing.
