I'm on mdl right now and can't move apps2sd, which update is it that is supposed to fix this?
Also, never seen this on my s3 when rooted.

What method did you use to root the phone?
If you have customer recovery installed, I think that cannot be fixed.
I use CF Auto Root
1. Root using CF Auto Root
2. Use TriangleAway to reset counter
3. Install OTA RootKeeper to keep root
4. Factory reset
5. Problem solved
For another question, Samsung only release app2sd fix to I9505 in certain country. Still long way to come to T-Mobile.

I used the method in the sticky of the general forum. And yes custom recover.

The apps 2 sd is available in the MEA release for Germany. You can find it in the 9505 section. It can be flashed to Tmobile phones as long as you flash a tmobile kernel right after. I am using an MEA rom right now. The pop up message is because you have rooted and flashed custom firmware to your phone. Your device is now "custom" and cannot recive stock OTA updates. Unless you use triangle away by Chainefire.

With custom recovery, even if you can check and download update, it will not be able to install.
I may be wrong but that's what happened to my S3 before.

Hopeful that we will get flushable updates though.

If you are keeping stock rom and want to install OTA directly. I recommend you root and keep the stock recovery, like what I did.
Most of the people install customer recovery because they want to flash 3rd party ROM.

Wiping cache/dalvik-cache is the ability of custom recovery, not rom.
With stock recovery, I am not able to wipe either one but I can wipe dalvik-cache manually using a root explorer.
I am sure you can find a command to run in terminal emulator to wipe cache and dalvik-cache.

I still like cachemate
Root is necessary:

I don't think there's a simple way to restore stock recovery only.
If you really want to, you have to restore everything through flashing the stock odin tar.

Perfect...so I just dl the Stock L900VPAMA7 All-In-One Firmware one and then use TWRP to flash it?
I also feel like a bit of a noob...is this JB 4.2.1 or 4.1.2?
You have to go back to a stock UNROOTED rom. Without TWRP or anything.
Then you download the OTA update.
In in the stock recovery boot.
Then once the OTA update applies you can root and do whatever.

Download the third one Down that says all in one firmware and flash in TWRP. That is the modem and other things for ma7. Then download either the first or second link depending on if u want odex or deodexed rom. If u don't want any themes then go odex. Then flash that in TWRP wiping cache and dalvik. Then u are on ma7.

Exactly. Unless you install a rom that has the latest update built in the only way to take the actual ota from Sprint/Samsung is to unroot and install stock recovery. Before you unroot you need to make sure that your binary counter isn't more than one. If you don't know what that is then run the app "triangle away". If your counter is more than 2 you'll need to run it that many times till it's back to 1. After that you need to unroot preferably with something like supersu that can clean everything up before unrooting. Then you have to flash it back to stock recovery. There is a tutorial video in galaxynote2root.com. I had to do this to mine since I was just rooted with stock rom and didn't feel like installing a rom with the update already in it. Good luck

Just search xda for the modded OTA update files and then flash them through TWRP
This is so confusing. I have searched everywhere and the help on this is so limited. Can someone who successfully updated their note 2 to ma7 please do a walkthrough on how they did it. And please do it for us 5 year olds without acronyms and such.

still getting ota notification
flashed the all-one , and the odexed ma7 rom, the phone shows that I am running 4.1.2 but I am still getting the ota notification that I have an update downloaded and ready to install.
Any ideas on what went wrong or how to stop the notification???
Don't quote me on this, but from what I have read, On a custom recovery it will fail when trying to install and never show you the notification message again for you to install again. Try and see, worst case scenario it will not install and no harm no fowl.

Not able to flash recovery.. help please

Hello all,
I was hoping one of you can help me. I purchased an s4 m919 yesterday from Tmobile. It is fully stock and it arrived with 4.2.2 M919UVUAMDL.
I am no stranger to the world of rooting, roms and cwm. I had an s2 back in the day so I am no stranger to odin either. Basically my goal is this:
1. Install CWM
2. Backup Stock FW in CWM
3. Install Custom rom from dev section
My process with odin is as follows:
make sure all is UNchecked except auto reboot.
place appropriate cwm tar in "pda" section
click start.
The process begins and instead of passing it fails. My phone also softbricks and I have to restore with kies.
I've already restored and bricked once thinking that maybe the first time was a bad download.
I have no ideas. I've googled and searched on xda and nobody seems to have a problem flashing recovery.
Let me know if more info is required.
Thanks,
frustrated and confused
Are you rooted? Try installing through the Rom Manager app itself?
After you have rooted download cwm from market and follow the prompt's once clock work mod has flashed do a backup and you will need to download ad away by chain fire this will reset the flash counter and once that is done enjoy flashing
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Premium HD app
Well it looks like ive run into a more immediate problem. Like i said I tried it once and it bricked I succesfully recovered with kies. I tried another download and the same thing happened. I went to restore with kies and now im getting an error in kies about 70% in. I need to go to emergency recovery and I do and that errors out. If problem persists contact samsung. Great.... I'm going to try and restore to stock using odin but my phone just seems to hate odin.
Edit: i tried restoring stock image in odin and fails almost right away. what is with this phone ?!
Try another USB port, and stock USB cable if you aren't using it. If you are grab a different cable and try it. If still errors out try another computer.
From my understanding you should have auto reboot UNchecked when Odin flashing CWM. Pretty sure you're supposed to leave everything unchecked and then after it's finished you unplug, pull the battery and then turn on the phone. Looks like your problem is before this though, so I would try another computer and make sure that you're using the stock cable.

Yes I think so I don't think having auto reboot checked would cause it to fail so bluntly. Am i just destined for a stock sgs4? Times like these makes me miss my nexus 4. I wish the damn thing hadn't broken=( oh well.. let me know if you have more questions.

Unroot with heimdall

Can someone point me in the right direction for unrooting my phone via heimdall? I've been searching for hours and seems my biggest problem is finding a stock ROM link that is not broken. I know i've done it before but cant get it. I have a few files that I thought were stock ROM's, but I havent had luck. Both of them I extracted the zImage file and flashed with heimdall but I'm still rooted both times. It seems I may need to flash another file besides the zImage file. So, I may have done it before I read this post. I'm not sure how to know if I have the latest version on my phone now.
When I look at "about device", I have android version 4.1.2 and build number: JZO54K.SPH-D710.GB27.KOB.TWv4.34A
I had this file: SPH-D710_SPR_D710USGB27_D710USGB27_Original.zip
Which I extracted these files:
KIES_HOME_SPH-D710.GB27_D710SPRLS1_1014481_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
SS_DL.dll
I extracted the tar.md5 file to get:
cache.img
factoryfs.img
hidden.img
modem.bin
recover.bin
zImage
I put my phone in download mode and connected it and flashed zImage via heimdall:
sudo heimdall flash --KERNEL zImage
My phone restarted and I did this from terminal emulator
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
rm /system/xbin/su
rm /system/bin/su
rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
reboot
I guess I am unrooted, I try to do a software update and it says I have the latest version.
The whole reason I unrooted was because I got some bluetooth headphones and they would play for about a minute then it would just pause my music and my device would eventually freeze and reboot. Most the time it would get stuck while booting as well. I thought maybe the root had something to do with it. I still get the same problem though. I wanted to take the phone to Sprint to see what they tell me. Since then, I have tested them with my rooted Galaxy tab 2 10.1 with no problems.
Also though, while I was rooted I had flashed a tweak that muted my boot sounds as well as camera shutter. I have also performed a factory reset after unroot and still have silent boot and camera.
Please advise.
Yes GB27 is the latest, not sure what else you want
I guess, I just wanted verification my phone is unrooted. I wasnt sure since the sound did not come back even after unroot and factory reset. I did download SU and root checker and that verified for me. Thanks.

I think you should strat by reseting your phone to its original state and you can to this following the tread of the toolbox(i'm browsing woth tapatalk now so i will try to come back and post the link but it should be easy to find). You will use triangle away in the process.
Then update your phone trough samsung kies.
Voila complete stock 4.3 with knox

Is there anyway to put the stock recovery tool back and doing the update without resetting the phone back to original state? I'm not exactly following what you mean by toolbox

I think you are looking for 4.1.2 stock recovery right???? Just making sure I understand, if I'm right I have what you need.
Hi, yes I just want to replace the clockwork recovery with the original Samsung recovery so I can upgrade to 4.3 over the air.
If that's what you are talking about please send a link.
They're are downloads for the t mobile Sprint ave Verizon variants but not AT&T...
Thanks

Here's the link to stock recovery for MH3

This may interest you also.
Stock 4.3 without the bootloader lock down.

You can update to 4.3 with a custom recovery, or flash it via ODIN.
Check it out before you do OTA.

Can you still get to TWRP ? team win recovery ?? ....
But I think Zen's plan will be better.....
Here's the cwm/twrp zip for ucamc3 recovery.... (attached)
Note that the OTA may still fail if it detects anything missing or different than what it expects. In that case, a wipe of /system, then a revert to MA4, may be needed.
You want me to go back to TWRP? I have the stock recovery right now.

The simplest path is to reflash TWRP, then flash the recovery I provided above, then see if the OTA will complete.
You might also be able to get the OTA to complete by running the openscript option from TWRP .. I know DS has had some success with that, but ymmv. If you try this option, you may get more information about where the OTA fails - take note of that and report back.
If that doesn't work then the next option would be to wipe /system and then odin flash UCAMA4. This should get you a clean OTA path to 4.3, and your data and apps should be preserved (although there is some risk). I recommend making backups beforehand in TiBu and then copy your SDCard contents to PC.
Thanks for you help will report back later. have to wait another 20 hours to dl the OTA update again.
You can turn off auto update of network time and set your time ahead 24 hours.
An alternative if ota doesn't work is to flash the stock rooted mk6 package - odin or cwm odex... DS provided a link earlier.
If Knox is a work requirement, you would need to decline SuperSU offers to disable Knox and you would need to run SuperSU and request full unroot.

Root and TWRP on 5.1.1 on OK1 Quick Question

To root and put TWRP on my Note 4 Stock OK1 all I need to do is flash TWRP via Odin and install SuperSU?
Got a little confused by some other rooting posts so wanted to make sure and maybe this post will help others. Thanks in advance.
Odin Trwp, don't reboot, take battery out, enter Recovery. Then Use Freeza's Stock root kernel OR the experimental Supersu that patches boot.
Freeza's Rooted Stock kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3268275
Myself and a few other's are just using Stock OK1 with Chainfire's Systemless Root(version is SuperSu 2.65) which patches boot. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3219344 I've been using systemless root with xposed without issue.
Or install a Custom rooted rom.

Will systemless root method work with OJ6 stock rom?
Thanks,

Yes, if you mean stock un-rooted. The prerequisite is to start with stock kernel; flash the SuperSU with TWRP; Odin TWRP if you don't have it. The link for SuperSU 2.65 is in post above yours.
Works for OK1 as well.

Try pulling battery and do the TWRP flash in Odin again.
Do it the way I mentioned to you earlier. If it still boot loops, you may have to wipe everything but extSdCard in recovery or start over with Odin stock tar.

Use latest Odin, uncheck auto reboot in Odin options. Wait for success, 1 passed, 0 failed and pull USB and battery. Wait at least 30 seconds, reinstall battery and boot to recovery.
You can also drain the power circuit with a gentle press and hold of power switch during the battery pull.

Are you following the instructions from post 11?
You say you boot into recovery and have TWRP but reboot into recovery again and it's now stock recovery? If so, are you using a full un-root in SuperSU and telling it to restore stock recovery image?
Not following the install or replacing stock recovery are the only reasons I can think of. Unless you have this file: /system/recovery-from-boot If you have that, try adding .bak extension to it, reboot and flash TWRP again.
If you're already rooted and not on a ported ROM with build.prop model spoof, you can also use Flashify from Google Play to install TWRP image file. Flashify will look up the file options for you. I recommend using Flashify to install the recovery labeled: TWRP twrp-3.0.0-0-trltespr.img
