Can't do it. Windows or Linux only.
Not having a mac, I have no personal experience working with android on one. I believe some have had luck running a linux live distribution via usb or disc for running rumrunner. That would gain S-off, bootloader unlock and allow flashing a custom recovery and installing superuser. Best bet is to read the rumrunner s-off thread in the original development forum.

I recently rooted my phone despite having a MacBook Pro. I tried running rumrunner via Parallels with both a Linux Live distro and Windows 7. Both didn't work.
I ended up installing Bootcamp and booted onto my Windows partition and only then was able to gain S-Off. You'll probably need Bootcamp sooner than later anyways.
I use bootcamp as well, works very well! If you do use bootcamp though I'd suggest installing windows 7 as it is compatible with much more than other versions of windows.
Worked fine on my Windows 7 parallels instance.

Hey guys. I got my Incredible on launch day, and loved it. I installed the PSX Emulator and was amazed at the actual capability of this device. I stumbled on here and started to see "root, flash, beta, OTA" and all this jargon is like arabic to me, I don't really understand what it means. I followed the instructions to "root" my device, and I don't know if I was successful, my phone operates the same way. Now here's where following instructions runs array for me...I'm running a Macbook, and I haven't really seen any step-by-steps for Mac. So all I'm asking is for a...glossary of the most important, used terms. And maybe someone to walk me through however to get the most out of my Incredible. Thanks guys.
I have a thread from yesterday where I had someone help.me from beginning to end. Unfortunately you're going to have a problem when it comes to adb shell and creating the semi and tools folders. Adb comes as an *.exe file which won't run on a MAC. I actually had to use my wife's netbook to go all the way through to installing Froyo. You can root your phone using unrevoked ASSUMING you've got at least OS 10.5. It will not work with 10.4.
Check my thread called a noob's adventures in rooting. I think that was the title.

Something I just thought of, if you had Bootcamp on your Mac you could use that for everything. I don't have it on my macbook but it wouldn't be a bad idea.

I have Bootcamp, but I don't really know how to set it up, nor am I the kind of person to drop 400 dollars on an OS.
So if you have Bootcamp installed I'm assuming you're partitioned for Windows and/or mac OS? If so, regardless of the mac OS, as long as you've got at lease Windows XP installed and can boot into that you can follow my other thread. I'm a virtual idiot when it comes to rooting and roms. If I was able to do it, anyone can. The thread turned into a step by step guide for idiots and I was able to do it. Wi.does is the only thing you need.

Uhh... you can run adb shell in windows, linux, or mac. You just need to download the proper OS version from google.
Yep, like the above poster said, just install the android sdk for Mac and you can execute adb from there. Im confused as to why everyone is telling you to install windows. 0___o
The reason I said Windows was because I was using an unsupported version of the OS. Unrevoked doesn't support 10.4.

Hello There Fellow Desire HD Users,
Im A Bit Of A Noob When It It Comes To This
Basically I Want To Know If It Is Possible To Root My Desire HD And Install CyanogenMod 7.3 On A Mac??
If Anyone Has A Tutorial For Dummies That Would Be Great.
Thanks
You can use VirtualBox to install Windows 7 Enterprise 90-day trial.
What version software is your DHD on now?
You definitely shouldn't use a VirtualBox instance when everything works fine with Mac.
Most of the binaries that are used to gain root run on the phone.
The other binary is 'adb' (Android Debug Bridge), which is available for mac.
Thankyou All For Your Replies,
But This Post Is Of No Use To Me Anymore As I Decided To Do The Offical Upgrade.
Allthough If I Dont Like It I Will Wait Till It Is Rootable And Root It

Sorry to rain on your parade, but IMHO it ain't gonna happen. Dev's just dont have the time or inclination to look for a fresh exploit when getting root is really as simple as downgrading, and it really is quite simple see here no need to install windows it all involves using adb so just install the SDK and away you go.
I used parrallels to do the actual rooting, the tools are very easy for windows and they dont seem to exist for the mac
Hello,
First, let me apologize if this has already been discussed. However, I couldn't seem to find any info about it. So, my question is: Can I root Jellybean 4.1 on my Galaxy Nexus i9250 without a computer? I bought the device second hand from somebody else (it wasn't used, it was pretty much sealed in box) so it already has an unlocked bootloader. It doesn't have CWM, I checked. Now, because the hard part is already done (unlocked bootloader), I should be able to root, and flash CWM through ROM Manager, right? That's the only obstacle between me and sweet roming! I don't have a windows computer that I canuse for this process, or else I would already be done.
Thanks!
Unfortunately you need to be able to flash the recovery to begin your rom-ing adventures and without root access your stuck doing it from the bootloader.
But all the tools you need are available for windows Linux and Mac so what you are looking to do is very possible with whatever hardware and operating system you have.
What exactly are you using for a computer so maybe I can get you pointed in the right direction.
I have an Asus Transformer with me, and a windows at home.... But, I'm not home, and I won't be for a while. I'm traveling until the 14th. Hence, my question. I suppose I shouldn't be ROM-ing without a computer available, but... It's so hard to resist!

an internet point will be your best friend
If you have the correct cables, you could use this fastboot binary on your tab to unlock your gnexus's bootloader and flash custom recovery, and root via flashable zip.
Moved To Q&A.. Please do not post any questions in the dev section..
nvm
Thanks, got it!

So I went through the steps to unlock the boot loader on my gnex so I can get the 4.2 update since I'm on Verizon and I thought it was rooted but I guess not. I used the root toolkit on Mac and I'm not sure what happened. I've never rooted on a Mac before, always on windows using a one click program but I don't have a windows PC any more. Just an imac and a Linux box running Ubuntu. Can anybody point me in the right direction for what to next?

The short answer is that you don't need drivers for Mac with this device.
However, you're also not going to find a way to root your phone using Mac. Windows only.
You will, however, need the Android File Transfer for Mac app if you intend on transferring files between your Mac and your phone.

So, there's absolutely no way to root via mac??? Well, that's stupid. How come I can unlock the bootloader and junk? :/

If you look in the development thread, you can find answers to these questions.
You can also root with Linux.

Cool, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
It wouldn't be that hard to make the linux script to Mac, they are both unix-like.
