Hello There Fellow Desire HD Users,
Im A Bit Of A Noob When It It Comes To This
Basically I Want To Know If It Is Possible To Root My Desire HD And Install CyanogenMod 7.3 On A Mac??
If Anyone Has A Tutorial For Dummies That Would Be Great.
Thanks
You can use VirtualBox to install Windows 7 Enterprise 90-day trial.
What version software is your DHD on now?
You definitely shouldn't use a VirtualBox instance when everything works fine with Mac.
Most of the binaries that are used to gain root run on the phone.
The other binary is 'adb' (Android Debug Bridge), which is available for mac.
Thankyou All For Your Replies,
But This Post Is Of No Use To Me Anymore As I Decided To Do The Offical Upgrade.
Allthough If I Dont Like It I Will Wait Till It Is Rootable And Root It

Sorry to rain on your parade, but IMHO it ain't gonna happen. Dev's just dont have the time or inclination to look for a fresh exploit when getting root is really as simple as downgrading, and it really is quite simple see here no need to install windows it all involves using adb so just install the SDK and away you go.
I used parrallels to do the actual rooting, the tools are very easy for windows and they dont seem to exist for the mac

Im trying to root my wifes mt3gs, shes finally sick of espresso amd ready for cm!
I noticed theres about 3 differrent methods to root it..
If anyone has used these methods and can tell me which was more user friendly I would eternaly greatful, of course i prefer a "1-click-root" method but i dont think that exsists does it?
thanx in advance..
i have tried two methods, exploid was the most straight forward and easiest. cm6 does not yet support bluetooth.

One click method? Never seen that for the slide. I used Eugenes method to root which is in the slide Rom bible and so far I've been able to root all 3 slides Ive ended up with very easily. You will have to use command prompt on ur computer but if u watch the video its really not hard at all. This is my.first android phone and it was simple for me so try it out an let us know.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
go with exploid
I agree with whgarner, I used the exploid method and that was fast and efficient
I used this method and strongly recommend it: HTC Slide root guide from cyanogenmod
The guide assumes that you have already setup Android SDK on your computer and that you have installed the correct drivers for your phone so if you have'nt done that already you will need to, as all the methods I have seen so far for the Slide require ADB. Lemme know if you got any questions.

Hi all!
I just completed the BL unlock process and am now stuck on finding a way to root my WFS using Mac OS X...
Hopefully someone knows a way to do this, cause as far as I know I can't use unrevoked3 for the WFS and this is the only mac based program I was able to find.
Thanks in advance!
I think this should do the work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275
Thank you very much!
Will be trying this tomorrow after work..
how about selling a mac and getting a real computer....
u are not loyal to apple anyway (wfs ftw)
lil` joke ofc
Okay, So I managed to Flash custom recovery and root.zip using terminal commands via fastboot.
At the moment i've got CM7.2 running and i'm loving it!
Btw, if there's any Mac users that want to, or need to, flash these things using terminal, let me know via pm. I'll write you up a tutorial.
okay ive looked around and havent found anything regarding this topic.
im trying to unlock bootloader and root my htc one v (cdma) using the only computer i have avaliable, and it just so happens it runs fedora. im no noob to the rooting world, just new to it using linux. ive never had a problem using htcdev.com, but the instructions to unlock bootloader mainly refer to windows users.
Can someone please walk me through this process for linux users like me?
I've already got the files i need (android-sdk_r21.0.1-linux.tgz and fastboot.zip)
now how do i use the terminal? (as dos is to windows)
I think all you need is adb setup
Sent from my HTC One V using xda premium

Details please. Got the files htcdev told me I needed, just am clueless how to use terminal. Or is there other way to go about it? (one click unlock/root for linux?) Step by step guide would be appreciative
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/HOWTO_Setup_Android_Development
that looks like it will do the trick for you. if you dont plan on making android apps, skip the part about installing eclipse. your main focus is the android sdk
once you get the sdk set up, open it up and make sure to install platform-tools, fastboot comes as part of that package.
that guide doesnt seem to talk about setting up the drivers, so look here (should be distro independant, maybe)
http://esausilva.com/2010/05/13/setting-up-adbusb-drivers-for-android-devices-in-linux-ubuntu/
hope that gets you started in the right direction, i use ubuntu and havnt touched fedora in a ages
i already have tat sdk file (android-sdk_r21.0.1-linux.tgz) can find how to install the platform tools. and the sdk comes with 3 folders, yet only "tools" has 115.4mb of data in it. no where in that folder is platform tools. why is windows easier to root phone with, then a computer using linux (basically same thing as android) its impossible without serious coding skills... if it were my computer id have ununtu also... in other words no progress yet. and beginning to really dislike fedora...
As I am new to the rooting world, I just have a few questions:
I purchased the Developer Edition, as I wanted to root my phone.
However, I am on an Apple computer and wanted to know if anyone could help me out.
How do I flash recovery for the M8 and install SuperUser on an Apple computer?
Thanks for the help.

There are tools that offer easy 1-click operations; but they're mostly WIndows only. I guess, the easiest way is for you to install Parallels; and download a copy of Windows. Go get the Developer trial copy directly from Microsoft (if still available?). Sure, it's a hassle to setup your workflow, but once you've got this going, you'll find it easier to root/flash your M8. Also, Android File Transfer on the Mac is… crappy (to say the least).
Here are links to the tools I mentioned:

Thank you this, my brother.
I actually have Parallels and I'm running Windows 8.1.
I didn't think to try this, as HTC drivers were a bit off for Windows 8 before.
Thank you again. My device is up and rooted!
HI guys, it seems most people run from helping with this question and I've seen people ask and get ignored in threads. I need help getting root buy using Ubuntu or Mac OSX. If anyone knows anything come forward please

Please, next time post in the Q/A Thread.
To root under mac os x and ubuntu, you can use a virtualisation software like virtual box (free!) to install windows and use the windows apps.
You can also use Boot Camp to install windows on your machine (https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/).
I used virtualbox with windows 10 developper preview to root my phone and it worked great!
good luck!

I got frustrated and wrote a python script to replace send_command.exe from the LG_root.zip
Its really frustrating as well how android uses a linux kernel yet still people who hack it don't use Unix methods in their tools.
