I went to service menu and it states Booloader unlock allowed: No
Crap!
Is there any way arround this?
Luckily its my wifes phone so no big harm. But how I can know if I will in future get a phone that can have unlocked bootloader???
What firmware are you in? The latest build?

Is there still a way to unlock a bootloader?
Is there an update for your phone via SUS? As there's a new firmware might give you the option to unlock it after update
Sent from my C1905 using xda app-developers app
No, no official update for me yet.
Could try flashing the New firmware that's on here and see if it's allowed after that

I have just been bought the Xperia M by my girlfriend as an early xmas present (she's awesome) but my bootloader says its not unlockable... ive just updated to C.2.8 ive got the SS version on Tesco Mobile.
Im not a noob to android modding, I had an Xperia Ray super modded (cant remember what ROM) until earlyer this year so am a little out of touch but i did have an unlocked bootloader using the Sony method.
Surely having a unlockable bootloader will/can be fixed at some point in the future? software update or a hack? or is it just simply that i will not ever be able to unlock it?
Is it network locked? I'm sure I've read that if it's locked to a network the bootloader cannot be unlocked I could be wrong

So surely can't I just flash an unbranded stock firmware using flashtool then? It IS locked to Tesco mobile... It came with a big sticker on the box saying "I'm locked to the Tesco mobile network!"
So if I get a stock generic ftf file will that remove the network lock and free up the bootloader?
I have already sent my imei to Sony but not received my email with the unlock code...
Thanks for the response btw
Anyone else care to input or say anything on this matter?
Would really like to get a custom kernel installed (well, elixer) as im not too fussed about the ROM itself, I much prefer a tweaked/modded stock look and feel when using my phone anyways... Looks so much smarter.
Again any help or pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, ive tried searching quite a bit now and it really seems that (so far at least) there really isnt a lot of custom support for this awesome phone, I didnt want the Xperia L (same hardware, same resolution, BIGGER screen!? .. 4" is plenty of screen size, if i want/need bigger then I should get a tablet no?) and then just about every other phone on the market now has a 17inch screen unless you get a really basic phone OR an iPhone *shudders* ughh the thought of itunes... No way.
The M is right in the sweet spot with 4" display and good decent hardware to match
Kind of preaching to the choir here im sure you guys all think the same as you own 1 lol
Problem solved for me. Unfortunately it will not help others.
Phone was restarting 5-6 times per day. Finaly I opened it and discovered that whenever I press SIM card it restarts again. Motherboard had be replaced.
Now, that is back from operater's service booloader can be unlocked yeeee!

If I buys a motorola droid which is at&t locked and I change my country paying the first month bill, and unlock the device can AT&T do anything to me?
Hey guys, I have an X Play for Verizon, just got it. Loving it so far but rooting is not was easy our the same anyways as it was on my droid x. I know I can't unlock the bootloader for free anymore bit was wondering if there is any way to still root it. I searched for hours last night and couldn't come up with a concrete answer. Closest I came to one was using flashtool to downgrade, root, then upgrade again via ota. I'm not 100% this will work with the r800x though and don't want to brick my phone. Any help is appreciated. I really want to get rid of all of this crap software verizon put on here. Not to mention use titanium backup again. Thanks!
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
Very hit out miss with tools downgrading... I tried a couple before the ota to no avail...
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
Downgrading and OTA with the uk generic won't work on the r800x, the baseband is different. You would need a 2.3.2 Verizon ftf file.
Sent from the best phone ever
So is downgrading the r800x possible with flashtool? Or am I taking the risk of bricking my phone by using it?
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
To my knowledge most of the people with the Verizon one ended up unlocking the bootloader. I can't recall seeing anything about people using the flashtool for the r800x

In the hopes that we may as a whole have a louder voice that AT&T will hear... I have created an online petition for this. Please show your support and sign it. Tell your friends, your family, etc. This has come about by way of suggestion from FXP.
Please note, that if you decide to sign the petition, this is a LEGIT cause, and to please sign as yourself, not your online alias.

And yes, I agree...It's all about the dollar, unfortunately. Thank you all for signing though. Maybe we will get lucky and it "might" actually happen?

Seeing as the Boot lock really looks to be in full control from Sony I would suggest trying to get them to hear you. At some point there agreement with ATT will end and this device will be dropped as the new ones come in very soon. So maybe just maybe Sony will listen and help us out.
^if u read through some of the other threads about sim unlock and what not. an ATT rep specifically told someone it was only the first 90 days... their exclusivity clause whatever.... in other words we should be allowed both sim unlock and bootloader unlock via ATT now. granted i see your point about Sony being in control of it. but, that doesn't make sense when they've got the SXS unlocked and getting AOSP love.... >_<
signed and posted on xda facebook page
I signed although I feel it will do nothing it will be worth the effort. I believe this is a control set by att as sony allows the bootloader unlocked on lt28i/lt28h.

I disagree with this... i have been trying to get the unlock code from att for my ion and they do not have it or have a release date for. i have been with them ten years and never asked for a unlock for any of my devices. i left for japan three days ago in hopes that i could take my ion with me and use it on docomo network so i didnt have to buy another phone while here. and att told me they would have my issue resolved long after i arrived, so thanks to att i had to buy another phone upon arrival.
i would have had a better chance at unlocking an iphone 5 before i left, than unlocking my ion
Plus one for me. Rogers canada locks there boot loaders as well.

I did it twice still can't get it done
So I purchased my Ion Lt28i from Wind the other day, and when I looked into the phone I found it to be "not unlockable" for the bootloader. Sonys site says otherwise.....
Any suggestions? It is the I version, not sure what i'm missing here....
Thanks in advance!
Just dial *#*#7378423#*#*, go to service info and then open configuration, if it says something about bootloader unlocking: yes then you can do it, if it says no then is not possible.
so.....maybe you misread my post, but i have already done that. Sonys site is showing that my model CAN in fact get a key, but you can't implement it without being able to get into fastboot....
Sony says it can, phone says it can't. Any other suggestions guys?
That's because its carrier locked. Carriers don't allow you to get into fastboot, and the ones Sony talks about are the sim free ones. So only stock for you, I'm afraid.

Imagine......you can't Rom your phone besides MIUI.
Its.....frankly really irritating, I love trying out all the cool sh*t people come u with for Roms, and I'm not "allowed to" because my carrier says so.....

Title
The variants of the phones Lt28i, Lt28h, Lt28at... are not just in the software. The Lt28i was specifically created by Sony for the use of network operators (I presume the boot loader exists on a physically separate partition, which would make sense since bios of motherboards are constructed in the same way).
If the boot loader was unlocked and Rogers fully simlocked phone so that no cellunlocker could help you, you could still wipe the phone and undo all the locking (afterwards terminate Roger's contract and run away with the 400 dollar phone). I think that even the network operators do not have access to the Lt28i bootloader.
However, with the Lt28i:
You can unlock the network, even if hardlocked.
You can flash and root Lt28h firmware on to it.
but you can never rape that sweet, sweet virgin boot loader goodness ...it will remain unmolested through the life and death of the phone.
(unless you get someone like a Sony developer to help you out)
Disclaimer: I haven't the slightest idea of what I am talking about, so don't ask me anything.
As lots of you have seen, the lt28at is really cheap on Amazon and eBay (around $250 unlocked) and I'm thinking about buying one as a replacement for my aging HTC Desire.
What do those of you with one think? Is there another phone in that price range that's better? Are you happy with it? It seems the best phone in that price range.

Im happy with my ion(got it on ebay), good screen, good perfotmance, decent camera. Got a few issues with it though: my camera lens got scratched to the point i couldnt take pics, so i had to do a fix( I used my N95 lens as replacement, works great now), no unlockable bootloader means fewer custom roms. Other than that id say its a good bargain.

before buying the ion, i really expect this to do much more and much better compare to my previous x10. However, i was so disappointed..
if you want a phone that takes good pictures (good clarity and color), don't take ion;
if you want a phone with good wifi, don't take ion;
if you don't want a phone to randomly shut down the apps you are using without noticing, don't take ion
all of the above essential points to me are not presented in x10, so i am very not happy about the ion
i recommend you just wait for ion's jelly bean review. its ics build is definitely one of the worst if not the worst comparing to samsung/htc/LG's except for the look

choosing ion
I got my Ion on on ebay for $200.00 it's locked to AT&T so i can't use any custom roms, but i am waiting for the JB update hopefully by end of March and or April. What i did do to make my Ion more snappy is of course root it, install CWM, V6 supercharger to decrease lag, use a deodex L28H rom. I do use my S3 as my primary phone for work, but i just love Sony's look when it comes to the phone design. The Ion is a good not great phone but you just need to "tweak" it a little with mods for now to make run a little better, XDA is a great place to check to do just that!
PS. waiting for the ZL that will be my next Sony Xperia!:good:

I've been using an LT28at initially on AT&T then on T-Mobile for a total of 3 months. I previously used an X10 and a Nexus One.
In the U.S., the largest factor for me to have an SIM unlocked ION was its radio. AWS HSPA and LTE bands are covered. Granted LT28at's bootloader is locked and you can't try custom roms or custom kernels. But if you compare the ION with X10, Nexus One or HTC Desire, processing speed alone should feel a big improvement. Sure I love X10 (I still have one) and I personally think X10's push buttons are still better than ION's touch panel buttons. But ION is pretty good, and you won't be disappointed if you switch from HTC Desire.
It looks like I might get the lt28at. I know the bootloader is locked with little hope of that changing, but is it possible to load custom ROMs with the stock kernel?

You can load cwm without any problems. I believe it is another mode( dont recall what its called right now) which the 28at cant go to which is necessary for bootloader unlocking( i tried). There is a guide o how to install cwm on the ion. You can also flash the generic 28h or i firmwares on the 28at without any issues.
