I've had my Gs3 for about 4 months and love it. I recently deiced to root the it and flash the CM 11 Unofficial rom to the phone. While trying to install from clockwork I receive a message saying ""This Package is for "d2tmo" devices; this is a "d2spr". Aborting (Status 7)". I've been flashing for years and never had a problem. Does anyone know what could be the problem?
If anyone is wondering the model number is SGH-T999. A T-mobile S3.
You are using a d2spr recovery.

Which would I download and how would I apply it? I'm a noob when it comes to Gs3
flash the .tar or .tar.md5 files in odin, or .zip in cwm/twrp if you already have one installed.
i do highly recommend you stop and take some extra time to read our stickied threads, and search for more info on flashing and everything else. (searching noob/newb guides on xda is a good plsce to start).
you will be glad you did, and you will end up with most of your answers before even asking the questions. which is exactly what is expected of anyone before they just jump in.
we dont mind helping you along the way, but only if you are trying to help yourself and dont become one of those people who expect us to walk you through every single step.
if theres something you dont understand, or genuinely cant find the answer, then by all means, ask for help/clarification. good luck!

To use mobile odin you need to download the tar file and not the zip file. Then you need to use open file in odin and find where you put the tar file. What ROMs were you trying to download?
Mobile odin is just like the odin. Only the difference is the platform where it's running. If you downloaded a rom, be sure it has the format which can be recognized by mobile odin. The zip file format which is only supported thru CWM recovery, can not be odined by mobile odin.
If mobile odin cannot locate the rom, it means it simply means that it's not supporting the file that you downloaded.
Be sure that, current mobile odin on ICS, it does not odin the Modem part.
Calkulins the newest one i want to try cm9 idk yet i got stock fc24 and want something different how do i download the tar and not the zip i just checked my files it was the zip lol told u im a noob :screwy:

cm9 is not available as a .tar.
To install cm9 you will need to follow the instructions listed on the cm9 installation page exactly, as flashing using the wrong recovery could lead to a brick.
Just a suggestion. As a self described newb, slow down, read read read. There is nothing so amazing in any ROM that is worth running off Willy Nilly and flashing foolishly.
Don't take my tone as harsh. Buying software and not reading as to how to use is a clear sign that you aren't ready to flash. Too many folks have bricked by being impatient.
Read the forums. Read replies. Read, read, read.

Advice - READ A WHOLE LOT. You will most assuredly turn your phone into an expensive paper weight. Or at best end up with a poorly functioning device and bad experience. I understand your excitedness but spend some time - a week or two (minimum) researching and reading these threads and others. You've already managed to get a pre-release build on it. That's good (and bad). This phone is incredible. If you spend the time to understand it you can make it even better. Good luck
Dont worry no offense taken i did read i guess i just didnt understand that u needed a tar and knew u couldnt flash cm9 on odin i got fc24 with no issues i understand directions im not completely illiterate lol ha ha... I DOWLOADED EL26 TAR AND GAPPS AND CM9 IM just trying to ponder which i wld like sorry i confused i unferstand the potential hazards... Bricking etc... I just like the idea of being able to customize my phone

Glad you weren't offended, wasn't my intention.
Just be careful, hate to see you added to the brick list. If one of the devs can brick, then its clear anyone can if not careful.
Good luck guy.

By the way, once you get used to it you will find Mobile Odin worth the money spent.
I keep the EL 26 (think that is the one) .tar on my sd card, before I flash from one version (I.e. gingerbread to ics or ics to cm, or any combination) I use Mobile Odin to flash 26 first. Once phone rebootsd I hold volume up to get into recovery. Get caulks wipe file and flash it, then whatever you want.
Should be able to find those files in the dev section, if not shoot me a pm and I will provide them.
If i stay on my stock fc24 build and the official ota comes do i just go back to stock gb el29 to getvthe ota then thanks in advance and im gonna take ur advice and read i was just antsty and wanted ics now i have it and got greedy i will read first

Once the ota hits I would just wait for the devs to get a hold of it, then get it tweaked, rooted.

Glad to see you are learning and using this thing. My reason for saying 'good and bad' is a little knowledge can kill. You've probably seen the posts and comments on bricking so you know it's possible. If very experienced developers (like the guys building kernals and repacking ROMs) can brick their phones, imagine how easy it is for us 'regular' folk. My advice is to try a few different setups over a few weeks or days and see what works best for you. Just make sure to follow the installation notes as carefully as possible. As was mentioned Mobile Odin is money well spent and I too keep stock(rooted) tars on my SD card for recovery purposes. I've owned a sh$t load of phones and smart phones and this one is hands down the most customizable I've ever seen. Be careful, have fun and good luck!
I will be getting an et4g in a couple of days and it is already rooted. Just wondering where I should start to learn ask of the things needed to flash, update, and things of the sort.
thanx in advance.

I checked that wiki thread just not sure what to start on. The whole modem thing is confusing, as my past two phones were the og evo and the e3d.

You will need to get the Kies samsung drivers installed on your PC
you will need to download Odin or install Mobile Odin on your phone
use Odin to flash kernels, Roms, and modems (tar files or MD5's)
If the kernel you flash has a custom recovery, you can use it to flash ZIP files of different ROMs, Kernels, or other add-ons for your rom (themes, tweaks, etc). You can also create back-ups with it.
start there
Feel welcomed already. Not to knock my fellow evo bretheren, but had I made a thread similar to this in the e3d q&a the only response I would have received would have been "search works wonders" or "You ever heard of searching".
I'll start reading up on odin tonight. Thank you.
Modems aren't confusing at all. Any modem can be flashed with any rom. Simple enough, yeah? Flash a modem through a .zip file with a custom recovery or unlocked recovery. Or flash a modem through a .tar file (I think) through Odin. No problemo right?

I was just told that, modems to samy = radios to htc. So that clears up all the confusion for me.
It was kind of overwhelming to see so many. But then I have to remember, "unlocked bootloader".

There is a lot of info here and it can be a daunting task trying to narrow down even the basics at times. Just a few pointers to get started isn't to much to ask
also................google is your friend (don't forget that one lol)
1. Don't bother using Kies to connect your phone to the computer, download the full samsung driver suite here and install it. If Kies is already installed, remove it.:
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...342248/Sprint_d710_USB_Driver_v1_3_2360_0.exe
2. Since you're new to flashing on this phone I normally recommend sticking with Gingerbread, at least for a little while. It is safe, stable and fast. The multitude of ICS roms may seem tempting but come with a certain amount of risk if you're not familiar with the flashing process. It would be a shame to brick your new shiny phone.
3. Here are the basic steps to root and add Clockworkmod recovery to your phone. Qbking has a ton of video howto's out there, view any you can lay your hands on! :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24158551&postcount=9980
4. Once you're on stock rooted from step 3, you can download and flash any (Gingerbread) rom you want. I think the 2 most popular are Calkulin's and Blazer's roms but there are a bunch of others. They can be found by searching the E4GT development forum. Please follow the directions for flashing any ROM closely on the developers' OP.
5. Ask a lot of questions first! Better safe than sorry.
Edit: I know your phone is already rooted but the #3 above is how it gets done. If you ever have any problems, that is the safest way to wipe out the current setup and go back to stock rooted.
Ok I am coming from a HTC sensation and I am not to familiar with Odin and I particularly don't know where to get it from to make sure it's the right one so i dont brick my baby(sgs III)?
Secondly, I have been reading through many many threads about users losing IMEI's with rooting so another question I have is what is the safest method to root to avoid this problem?
Also I am interested in flashing freegs3 by team sonic after I root so I just wanted to get some advice and stuff on this before I think about starting it so I don't end up like many users who just jumped into it and now have a paperweight.

Go to the developers section and go to the bible thread and in there there's a link on a step by step rooting process that does not trip the counter.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1799860
[BIBLE] T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III
After following that step by step and you have the clockworkmod recovery installed, turn your phone off hold volume up and home and press and hold power button to get to recovery screen, I would factory reset data, wipe cache/dalvik flash the Rom that you want flash the kernel for that Rom and reboot.

I don't think it's random at all. I think people that used root methods from other carriers lost their marbles when flashing.
You have any proof to this? I haven't really seen anything that points one way or the other and I'd like to try and get to the bottom of it.

I installed the new 4.4 Kitkat on my t999 s3. Love it!
Everything for me is working great except the sd ext. And since I'm new I cant even post in the development side to ask about a fix. Anyone know if this has a fix?
first, in the future, ask questions in Q&A.
what size is your sdcard? if its a 32/64gb, make sure it is formatted as fat32, NOT exFat. did you use the "search this thread" function to see if anyone else reported similar issues in the rom thread?

Sorry about posting in the wrong area.
sd card is a 16gb gonna check but I have used it with every rom I have installed and pretty sure its fat32.
Did search and appears to be a problem with the rom. And fix looks to be using different code in the next build, I was just hoping that maybe someone else had same problem and found a simple fix.
You could try a different kernel. Hopefully that may fix it. What's the Rom ?

Loving everything about it other than the lack of sd ext
Try KT747 latest with that rom. Don't hold your breath as its a ROM issue.

No you use PC based ODIN or Odin Mobile to flash these .tar.md5 files.
I have an at&t phone my bro bought from NY and it has a UCALJ2 modem and omnirom 4.4.1 on it and works fine unlocked in India.
My question is that will updating it to UCAMH3 will firstly lock the phone?
2nd will it work in india as I think there is a bandwidth difference from US and here tho I haven't noticed any issues as such
3rd will the efs backup suffice from TWRP 2.6.3.1 and is TWRP the best method to flash the zip
and lastly will the flashing work on omnirom 4.4.1 and in case it gets locked any ideas how to unlock it before restore
also to restore what all will I have to wipe?Clean install or will just wiping some stuff do.Thank you just wanna be sure what i'm doing before I flash a modem and take out one of the most important part of a phone
Help is greatly appreciated

You better slow down and learn a few things. I counted three things you did that got you very close to turning your phone into a paperweight.
yeah I know network unlock is permanent but I read a couple of posts complaining that it got locked after a rom flash so was wondering if it's the same case with modem, though most prolly they just had a modem issue that showed unknown baseband,I just searched on forums of note 2 and saw some people post that complain
2ndly could u please elaborate the 3 things so I don't do them
I'm a user not a developer so I just follow the steps I see on this forum,if I have something wrong would be good to know before I progress on
Nothing in UCAMH3 will lock your phone...
But the way you are asking about 3 different versions of android does concern me a bit...
As mentioned above...
Read the threads carefully in the OP for any rom you are considering...
Android 4.1 and 4.2 are pretty safe bets...but 4.3 and 4.4 introduce many changes that are more technical....and missing steps in the later versions "will" cause damage...
Regardless of what you decide...make a few good "full" backups and place them on external storage for that "oh crap" moment...g
