I just changed the annoying touch ui sound with that of the Nexus 5. Upon reboot I noticed something odd. The touch screen sound had changed but when touching the capacitive buttons the old "water drop" sound remained. Any ideas?
No one has any info on this? Would it be better suited for Themes & Apps section?

You have to change the S_HW_Touch.ogg to your desired sound. I just renamed the Effect_Tick.ogg to S_HW_Touch.ogg in a folder I created in the external SD card and wala, hardware buttons now make the tick noise.
Theres a thread about this in the AT&T theme and apps section.
I bought ultimate sound pro which lets you choose any sound you want for any system sound but I still prefer just using root explorer and doing this manually it's just more fun and educating imo.

Thank you and I apologize as I should have searched a little more. I should have just played back every OGG file until I found it. I also reset the permissions 644 but not sure if it was necessary

Copying the ringtones into the SD card folder enables the files to show up in the ringtones selection, they don't actually produce any sound. Seems like our phones don't like the .ogg file type, as my phone takes custom mp3 files just fine.

If you guys are viewing mediafire from your phone, use Google Chrome and switch to request desktop view and it will show.

Get foobar and Lame encoder - then drag the files into the foobar window and then right click on the files (select all), convert (to mp3), and walk through the prompts (you need to download LAME too - try free codecs dot com).

Just went through them and you might be dissapointed though - I've seen a lot better sounds on most custom roms...

Is this for the UI and if it isn't then how would I be able to install them on my phone? Thanks

hey
you have to extract the file on another route. Now you have to copy and move. for example if you are going to move ringtone move it to this route. /system/media/audio/ringtones. Notifications /system/media/audio/notifications. Alarms /system/media/audio/alarms. and ui is the same but do not quite understand yet that I have little in this. when finished reboot and then go to settings and you will see in the sounds. sorry I do not understand much English.

OK well I have the ringtones part done and I've copied and pasted the UI sounds in /system/media/audio/UI. Then I rebooted and didn't work. Did I do something wrong.

The only downfall to this phone I have found is the notification and ringtone sounds. Is there any app with better notification sounds?

I think that the notification and ringtone sounds that come with this phone are horrible. You can add your own, even if you are not rooted.
Place a folder structure on your sdcard (internal or external):
/sdcard/audio/notifications/
/sdcard/audio/ringtones/
in each of these folders you can add off or mp3 files. They will appear in the ringtone and notification sound chooser on the phone. I was able to extract some of the sounds from ROMs for my Evo that I was used to in the past and add them this way.

The S3 has a unified memory pool (16GB or 32GB) that is used for the ROM, Data storage and also appears as an SDCard. They all share the flash space that your phone has.
The "internal SdCard" will appear at the path /mnt/sdcard/ and appear to you apps as if you have a card installed. You also have an SD card slot on the phone. You can add a real card there and that will appear at the path /mnt/extSdCard/. You can add the media folder to either location and the phone will find the ringtones.
I installed a 32GB card in my phone. I then configured the camera to save photos to the external card to save the internal space for the data partition.
Found the audio/sounds lacking on the N2, so here are all the sounds from CM10.
Using Root Explorer or similar, place the sound files in their respective folders in /system/media/audio and reboot phone
Although the existing files have rw-r-r-- permissions, they work without changing permissions at all.
Download here.
Enjoy.
Do we have to delete any old files or will they just be overwritten?

There shouldn't be any overlap with the existing sound files so it shouldn't ask if you want to replace it.

Did you try fixing the permissions?
I never done this but done other stuff. Find the folder where the sound files are located, look and remember their permission.(rw--r--r) or something like that. Rename the new sound files to the exact name of your systems old one. Copy a back up of your old sound files(optional). Then copy over the new sound files replacing the old ones
Now reboot.
Open file manager and change the permissions to match the old one.
Reboot.
Enjoy.

I haven't seen this in our T Mobile Forum so I thought I would share.
I hate the horrid boot sounds of our device, so here is how to turn it off.
MUST HAVE ROOT ACCESS.
1. Download Root Explorer or another File Manager of your choice. (Personally I use Root Explorer because it automatically sets permissions.)
2. Navigate to System > Media > Audio > UI, to find "Poweron.ogg" and "Poweroff.ogg". (As you can probably tell, one is the power on sound and the other is the power off sound.)
3. If you don't want it at all, you can simply delete the 2 sound files, but if you might need them later, I suggest you copy them to a different spot in your storage before deleting.
Hope this helps

i dont delete the files, i just rename them with an "X" before the file name. the system wont find them so it cant play them. if theres a need to replace the file, just remove the "X" and everything will be back to normal
Nice, didn't think about that xD.
