[Q] Cannot Flash Boot Animation - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I recently flashed the AOSP 4.4 "Taste of Kitkat" [Alpha Build], on to my Samsung Galaxy Nexus Meguro, and it is working great with some of my own tweaks so there is no more random shutdowns or the device lag that accompanies this rom. However it is not allowing me to flash any boot animations, as I tried flashing the newest Google Edition animation, for the full experience, and it does successfully flash but does t show up. Or it doesn't flash at all. I also tried manually but I cannot find the original boot animation.zip anywhere. I was wondering how to approach this minor issue. Any help is appreciated!

If you have the bootanimation.zip you want to use, use a file explorer app that's working with 4.4 to push it to system/media, set permissions to rw-r-r and it should work perfectly fine. Root Explorer and File Manager HD are apparently both working with Kit Kat, so try one of them.

Rather, don't mess with /system, just push your bootanimation.zip to /data/local/

OK I'll try

Jellybean and Boot Animations

Hey everyone, every time I try to change my boot animation it never works and gives me the stock AOSP android screen. It doesn't matter which ROM or boot animation OR method of adding it. I can be in CM10 or paranoid android and it won't work. It can be any animation and it won't work. I can adb push, use ROM toolbox, or copy manually and it won't work. Any help is needed please.

The same for moving apps to the system. The bootanimation.zip has to be rw-r--r--

Place the file in /system/media/bootanimation.zip. It will get wiped when performing ROM upgrades. I've read that also placing the file in /data/local/bootanimation.zip will overwrite what's placed in /system/media/bootanimation.zip but I haven't tried it.
BTW, I user ROM Toolbox and AniBoot to download and install boot animations.

Yep, putting boot animation.zip in /data/local is much easier and safer. You don't have to bother setting permissions there. It doesn't delete the one in /system/media, it just takes precedence over it. The system looks in /data/local first, and if no boot animation is there it runs the one in /system/media instead.
Thanks guys

[Q] Google Wallet

Hey guys I've tried asking in the threads for these fixes but to no avail so hopefully someone will be able to help me if I make a thread for it. So my issue is that I've been using Google Wallet just fine with no issues using the "build prop edit, reboot recovery and move wallet apk into system/apps" method and it worked until a couple of CM10 updates awhile ago after which it stopped working, I've tried to go back to stock and use the touchwiz fix which also didn't work and currently I'm on the latest AOKP on which I still can't get it to work.
What seems to be happening is that the wallet app is not actually installing in the system, so after I copy the apk and restart, there is still no wallet app or anything in my drawer or if I try the zip file flash method after the restart I'll get a force close for wallet and then the app is gone as well. Not sure why it's happening or what to do, any help is appreciated and hopefully we can get me back on wallet asap, I'm glad I already used the prepaid card up lol.
I'm not sure if you posted in the correct section but here's your problem you need your permissions to be correct. make them match this

Actually now that you mention it I realize it's in the wrong forum as well my bad, and I've tried that as well actually I just neglected to say it. Maybe you can advise me of everything you did and I can try it again I've got my nandroid already ready lol. And did you flash the zips or do the copy of the apk? Thanks again for the quick response.

I'm currently on the latest AOKP, I've tried it on codefirex, CM10 and the jellybean official leak(for the leak I tried the touchwiz fix method) and I've tried r75 and r79 neither are working but the copying the r75 apk into system/app method is what worked before. On the touchwiz fix method I actually was able to get wallet open but then it would say NFC would have to be enabled at which point the whole NFC/S-beam options would mysteriously disappear from the settings screens. There would also be a random vibration for no reason every few seconds.
Here's what I do
First I flash my rom then
I reboot. And with root explorer I put the wallet apk into the /system/app folder
I then change the permissions to the correct type. Then I access my build. Prop and make the three necessary changes. After that I reboot and I am able to use wallet with no problems. Btw I am using aokp and ill post the wallet apk I use in one sec. Are you on a Sammy rom because if you are you will most likely have to flash the new lib files as well

If you are on aokp DO NOT flash the libs files. I here's the wallet I use http://db.tt/F6b4VTun
And here try this too its a modified build . Prop to be used for aokp ONLY it goes in /system/ (do not forget to do the permissions properly on both before reboot) http://db.tt/3JaUsEMv

Also NEVER Forget To RESET WALLET BEFORE a New ROM Flash or you WILL BREAK Your SECURE element and once you get wallet working make a backup of the rom so if you do one day forget you can restore the backup, reset wallet and hopefully fix the issue

Ok so I used the files provided but now the phone won't boot up at all, it goes as far as the Samsung Galaxy S3 logo and then stops and stays black no bootanimation or anything, I'm gonna restore my nandroid and just see what happens if I use the apk alone and just manually change the build prop values for product device, model and name. Would you recommend the Galaxy Nexus values or the htc jewel? I use to use the Galaxy and it worked fine. I was also using root toolbox pro to edit the build prop which use to work as well,

I was confused about the reset wallet thing, I use to go on the wallet website and disable the app from there, not sure if that was right or not. I have not received any of the broken element msgs, there's just no wallet period lol.
Update, it didn't work. I did the move, edited the build prop but Wallet just won't appear despite being in the system/app folder rw-r-r

Change boot animation on LG Optimus G

Hi All,
Here's how to change the boot animation for the device. Do at your own risk. I've attached the Cyanogenmod boot animation for starters.
Boot Animation
1. Using your file manager browse to system > media
2. You will see a file called bootanimation.zip and varients. Rename it to bootanimation.bak and add .bak to all the others as well.
3. Browse to your sdcard to the location of your new boot animation
4. Rename your new boot animation to bootanimation.zip if it isn't already
5. Copy the new boot animation to system > media
6. Give the new boot animate all the permissions.
7. Reboot and Enjoy
Cyanogenmod boot animation
Anyone tried it out yet?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
There's a few apps in the market that have a bunch of boot animation options. They're all sort of consolidated, I wonder if they're safe
Do you have to be rooted or unlocked to attempt?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
You will have to be rooted, not sure about unlocked. I"m guessing OP didn't actually bother to look at the files though. There are 3 boot animations in the folder. Assuming you are on sprint, you can delete bootanimation_boost.zip. The bootanimation.zip runs before the bootanimation_sprint.zip runs. I don't know if deleting one would cause it to revert to running the other one twice or longer but it probably wouldn't hurt anything to test. The bootanimation.zip is the LG logo animation and the bootanimation_sprint.zip is the sprint logo animation. I would guess that you could customize each of these if you gave them the same name, or maybe if you deleted the sprint one, the other bootanimation.zip would run longer. I don't have time to test it now...

If by safe you mean it won't brick it, then yes they are. They should work too.
Thanks, will attempt after root. Haven't had time to do jack squat yet.

Tried a few of those boot animation switchers. No dice
Just fyi for anyone who tried flash this, it isn't flashable, it just contains all the different dimensions.
Ok so I see the boost file. The sprint file. And the regular one. I changed it to .Bak and pasted the new one. But no dice
This will not work for the sprint att and boost versions i will use sprint for example...
You're mostly right however if you on one of the named providers above you must rename the old boot animation from bootanimation_sprint.zip to
bootanimation_sprint.bak then rename the file bootanimation.zip to bootanimation_sprint.zip i did this to restore the stock lg boot animation that was in there already i don't see why this would not work with other boot animation files
Enjoy

The "boot animations" application from play store works perfectly if you change "install location" in preferences to system/media and the preset file name in preferences to "bootanimation_sprint.zip". You can then just click install on any animation you like.

Not working for me, for whatever reason. Trying to use my own boot animation, and all I get is a black screen. This is my animation if perhaps you want to test if I've done something wrong. All I did was rename the bootanimation_sprint.zip into .bak and place that file in there instead. It should work, but it isn't.
just loaded yours up and just got a black screen, so i think its the actual animation thats messed up
I cannot get it to work either

Hmm, guess I'll look into why the animation isn't working. Even made it from scratch and then using boot animation factory.
Epic has a guide that works better.
Also, to make it work you need to change the permissions of the new file.

Tried it with his guide and changed the permissions as well. I'm able to get stock JB to load on mine, it's just my boot animation that fails to work for some reason. I recreated it again from scratch and still don't really know what's wrong with it. Using 8bit color, stock compression, everything seems just fine; and yet it isn't. Maybe I'll take this up to the boot animation tutorial thread to see if anyone there can help me.
Edit: Nevermind, it was something extremely trivial that I should have noticed that just slipped by me. The folder name had a space in it, which pretty much made it useless. Fixed by removing the spaces.

Well, I can't say anything. I'm working on porting cm11 from the Note 2 LTE to the S3. If that works, I'm porting cm12 to the s3, hopefully.
Yeah it's an alpha build so the bells and whistles of cm features aren't available. It's basically just a working version of 5.0. As time goes on they will add the bells and whistles.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using XDA Free mobile app
Its actually an almost perfect build for me... Only issue is camera and contacts fc when a synced contact's name is more than one word.... Even had faster GPS lock than 4.4 roms...
Don't seem to miss cm features as I don't use much... Just probably on screen buttons and skip tracks with volume button is what I'm missing
Running this on my phone. It was kind of wonky at first but after 2-3 wipes/flashes this is the best ROM I have ever run on this phone.
If you get tons of force closes, no root, and can't seem to download anything wipe and re flash.
As of now everything is working for me(including the camera using nexus camera).

Test builds V4 is running great, ive been running it for 2 days and ive had 0 FC's! just camera doesnt work, but you can download an alternate camera from the play store (nexus camera or camera zoom FX works for me). All you have to do before flashing is modifying the "updater script", open and edit the updater script and just replace all "d2att" with "d2tmo", save changes. Do a clean flash. I use the usual apps (fb, tw, whatsapp, a couple basic games) and everything works well. I dont use any apps that use the camera (vine, instagram, etc) so I cant report on those. No need to flash a kernel or different radio.
V5 is working fine for me. Everything works except video recording(pictures work with Nexus Camera) and cast screen on Chromecast. I tried the fix for the Nexus 7 but it disconnects immediately.
I used es file manager changed all d2att to d2tmo and reziped the file and still won't flash. What am i doing wrong?

I tried editing the update script using root explorer, and it did the editing. however, when I moved/copy and paste the edited update script back to the Rom zip, it would move the original/unedited update script. So this is what I did: I extracted the update script and edited with root explorer, then I emailed the edited update script to myself, then I open the rom with 7-zip on my computer and replaced the original update script with the one I edited, saved the zip to my desktop. I then proceed to flash and it worked perfectly.

I rather not, for some reason the guy who put together the zip took down the thread and his account is suspended, who knows what happened. Its very easy to modify tho, give it a try.
i took a day or so by finally got my son s3 working
The current build is build 5 dated 11/25. It works better than build 4. You can use a few different cameras but stock camera still not working right. If you use Philz touch recovery you don't need to modify the script, it will flash just fine. It will say your phone is an i747 but that is just cosmetic it changes nothing with functionality like data or calls, etc. Because this is just a software rom and doesn't change anything hardware specific. Enjoy.

I tried changing all the d2att to d2tmo and it is all changed but when I try to flash it, it gets a couple fail messages about mounting something and then I try to reboot it gets stuck in bootloop.
When I try to flash without changing the d2att it won't even flash.

Cyanogen themes boot animation issue

Hey guys I am running cyanogenmod and other then some small issues it runs great. I have made a theme for myself using android studio and the boot animation worked fine on my nexus 5 but on my nexus 5x the boot animation doesn't work. I have tried other themes and those boot animations don't work either it just uses the default cyanogen boot animation. I am not sure what's going on. I'll attach my theme if anyone wants to try it for themself.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Nobody else had this issue? I have tried flashing back to stock then back to cyanogenmod with no luck?
