[Q] Xperia PLAY R800i Completely Dead - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
My Xperia PLAY is dead. Completely dead:crying: No vibration when power button is pushed, no blue LED in fastboot mode (it won't get detected as well) and no green LED in flashtool mode. This happened after the battery went flat on Friday. It was late when I noticed the dead battery and since I don't charge phones overnight I left it till the next morning. I plugged it in the next morning and left it to charge for about three hours. I didn't see a red LED as usual but I didn't think much of it as I was late. Upon returning I noticed that the battery was extremely hot (burning hot) and the phone would not boot up. I immediately removed the battery and left both to cool. I then tried to power up again but it showed no signs life. Since I had a R800x motherboard lying around, I swapped boards and the R800x fired straight up. The battery hadn't charged fully (it was at around 25%) so I let it charge to 100% and swapped the R800i motherboard back. Still no life.
I tried to connect using flashtool and fastboot but still nothing. It's like the phone is completely dead! The board fuses were OK (I think they were fuses!) and it didn't have any burn marks.
This is what happens now if I connect to the PC-no signs of life on the phone and no detection on the PC (Windows XP SP2). If I leave it connected, I feel the battery heating up very quickly so I disconnect it. I tried flashtool with 0.58FTF but when it says to connect the phone it is not detected. Same goes for fastboot. I even tried connecting the phone via USB and removing and re-inserting the battery (as it had worked for someone with a bricked phone) but no dice.
I had Lupus ICS/GB V5 and ICS Original by DanyXP running. The apps I had were Titanium Backup, No frills CPU control, eBay for android and notification toggle (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037817). No frills settings were Min CPU 194Mhz, Max 1049MHz (stock value- wasn't overclocked) Governor Intelidemand V2 (unsure).
Is my motherboard beyond repair? I only had it for a couple of months but I love my Xperia PLAY and I want it back!
Thanks for taking the time to read my question.
Regards.
Jay.

Thank you for replying. How do I do this? I read a topic by Alejandrissimo and he might be able to fix my phone through remote support. I also think that it shut down by itself when something upset the trim area and the battery has nothing to do with it.

So I tried Testpoint and there's no response either. I followed this tutorial and found the testpoint locations for the XPLAY from the internet-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730874
I tried the S1tool application as well but still nothing. Should I look for another phone now?
Also Alejandrissimo did not reply yet, I PMd him and sent him an email via his Gmail address...

If it is not detected via testpoint in pc means your phone is dead. .. Need to change your motherboard... Btw try a few times maybe it is detected. . If it is detected pm me I can help you remotely

I have a feeling that this board is dead as well. I'm going to try one more time and then look for another R800i with a cracked screen or something and swap them out. I still can't understand how it died out of the blue! I never overclocked it and I'm not a very heavy phone user. It's shut down at the end of each day and I never let the battery run flat either. Happens to the best of us, I guess!

Hi Faisel,
You may be right, because the repair technician also said he suspected a short. Is this repairable?

I don't really know. All I know is when it is short circuited, the battery will get very hot and can burn and will damage the board
Sent from my LT30p using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

So, the technicians returned my phone and said it is unrepairable! Bummer!
I'll be looking for another XPlay but first, how did this short-circuit happen? I didn't reverse battery polarity and no one else handled the phone repairs. Although I installed a new kernel and ROM, I didn't overclock it either. (it was underclocked to 194MHz using 'no frills CPU') I'm beginning to think that the earlier owner of the donor phone may have had too much fun with his phone!
Please tell me your views on this issue so I will be wiser with my next phone!
Regards,
Jay.

Sorry to bump so soon but I really need to know-will installing a custom kernel and ROM affect motherboard durability in any way? I will not be installing any CPU/governor customising apps this time but I really want DanyXP's ICS ROM and Lupus Kernel again! I might be getting another Play very soon so I've got to be prepared!

[Q] Bricked LG Nitro detected as HID

Owner said she left it charging overnight and by morning it was dead.
battery was totally drained, i used my own phone to test the battery.
lcd does not turn on, no lg download mode and not even qualcomm download mode.
the wierd part is pc detects device as usb HID. vendor id is 05C6, which is qualcomm's id and product id f006, who knows what it is.
i do have jtag tools but i want to try other options first.
keypad lights turn on when battery almost drained like all nitros do but nothing else besides that. i have tried all key pressed combinations that i could think.

I am assuming you tried your own battery in the phone and same results? If so you may have to use jtag as there is "hidden" boot loader that gives access to the DL mode and recovery partition and if that's gone the only way I know of is with a jtag device. Good luck.

Yes i did. It drained it cause i tried lots of things. Tell me more about the hidden bootloader. Im no n00b, you can go straight to the real thing. I also do this for a living and if i can contribute to the forum, its better.
I went over 4pda and found that the vid+pid are supposed to be correct but it is detected as HID instead of qcusb. I will modify or update my drivers tomorow just in case.

i wonder, if this issue could be caused by faulty connection from battery to phone, does anyone know if the battery connection is faulty would the phone still turn on when plugged in? i don't think so, try pulling the battery from your working phone, and plugging into usb, my guess is it won't turn on, if thats the case you might want to see if its possible to replace the connection, i can't remember if it looked detachable when i was replacing my ditiziger, i would check these with my phone but i have a tripple layer case on it and its a pain to take it all apart and put it back together, its something to think about tho, i only thinking along these lines because its the only explanation i can think of as to why the phone would die while plugged in, and not work with a new battery. i think it might also detect as HID if there is 0 power in the device (which could happen if it won't turn on while plugged in with no battery) if the battery connection is faulty.

let me know, i'm curious
first thing in the morning i did today was test my device with no battery through usb but nothing showed up on device manager. after that not even the bricked one was doing it but eventually it did. i also did a voltage test from microusb charger to battery pins and Vs are same as my phone which is a little less than 1v, which is really odd cause it should be over 3v at least. battery is being detected by phone because when its very low on charge, keypad lights blink a few times.
hrmn interesting, one thing ur missing is there is no way the cap lights would light up to warn you about low battery if there is 0 power in the phone which is what it sounds like, so that doesn't really mean its detecting the battery. i'm honestly not sure if im right but it still sounds possible
hello! i'm new user. niceto meet you
When i first tested the battery on my own device, i plugged the charger and it did that. Forgot to mention that its only when plugged. I had to wait a little to actually see that it was charging. Ill try the same later today just to verify that im not wrong.
edit: i just recreated the HID connection with my working phone. it seems that they do that when they are discharged or something like that. when tried the other day, did not happened at all and i took sometime.
Officially gave up. Im doing jtag.

USB or battery dead?

Hi
Been having trouble with my arc recently. It wont charge when connected to the cable.
I've tried 3 different USB cables, 2 different wall plugs, 2 different portable chargers and even the USB ports on my computer, and the plugs in school. I find that i take ages to connect the phone properly to charge and sometimes it'll disconnect halfway.
Now for some reason even though i left my phone plugged in, it refused to charge and the battery got completely drained, now its just looping between showing slowly flashing red and solid red light (low battery level charging).
So is this a problem with the battery or the USB port? If it indeed is a hardware fault (i do not have enough battery to flash stock yet, and no spare batteries t use), since my warranty is over, is it cheaper if i bring it into Sony or a 3rd party street repair shop?

Sent from my MT15i using xda app-developers app
Using an x10 now with the same problem previously ...lol... tthat was a cable issue.
Anyway I know a person who owns an arc rtoo, will try to charge my battery on his phone.
Meanwhile my own arc is still flashing red led eevery 2 seconds.
edit : forgot to say that the last time I charged it, the top right hand (where all the internals are) got unusually hot... and I didn't have any problem with the battery previously.
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
i had the same problem with my Arc S, just need to buy a new battery and the problem will be solved
UPDATE:
Just bought a new battery and it charged from 43% to 37%. I am flashing stock now to see if the problem persists.
Otherwise it's a trip down to the service centre to fix the circuitry perhaps... because my microUSB port works. Also, when I start my phone the top right hand corner where all the components are starts to heat up, but when I look in performance menu nothing is abnormal (processor is normal, I use 364/1400 smartassh3 sio).
EDIT: I am unable to flash stock because as soon as i connect my phone in flashmode the green light flashes for a split second, goes off, and the phone boots.
EDIT 2: I cannot go into fastboot either, same scenario with flashmode except blue LED.
EDIT 3: Just tried another microUSB cable with same result. It's not the drivers problem because I've tried both my computers, and I just flashed a ROM on my x10 yesterday. Also, I noticed that when I try to enter flashmode, after the phone disconnects, it boots into fusion kernel, then just switches off without boooting into ROM. And for some other reason, the battery is at 39% now, after a restart.

my xperia s isnt doing anything

My phone died last night because i forgot to put it on the charger before i went to sleep. The problem now is that it just wont charge anymore. I have left it on the wall charger all day but i just dont get the red light. I flashed a custom kernel, maybe that has something to do with it, but it has ran out of battery before so thats really strange.
Any thoughts on what to do? Really clueless here guys..
Just let it charge

Its still dead after 16 hours of being connected the wall charger. No led, no vibration, just nothing
What kernel? Can you connect the phone in fastboot/flashmode?

Try hard reseting it
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
Yes, i did try hard resetting it but it gives just no response. Havent tried booting it in fastboot tho because im not home now.
Im running the kernel from the free experia project.
How screwed am i?
i'm not so sure but this is occured to me on my XAS .200 after flashing custom kernel not too long ago. but this is happen when i use custom kernel on XAS.
it will not charge, and fortunately fellow member here warned before it's too late and managed to reflash stock kernel before running out of battery.
i'm not sure about XS's battery whether it can be removed or not, but if any way to do it, you need to recharge that battery/replace the battery with fully charged one, and reflash to stock kernel.
again, this is from my experience with XAS though. i just thought it could be the same.
the same happened to me. I open the phone, removed the battery, conected the charger, and put back the battery. After that I got the red led and it charged. And yes, I voided the warranty.
Try connect it to USB port! I've had the same problem. I don't know why but it will only charge through USB cable connected to PC. Leave it for a while, u'll be able to turn on your phone.
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
You should be able to get the phone into fastboot mode, once you are home that is. Im using FXP kernel too and have had no issues so far. Try flashing the kernel again maybe.
Some kernels have problem with offline charging (they won't charge if phone is turned off). It is possible you flashed that kernel and because of that it won't charge. Only solution is to replace battery with full one and then change kernel, like member before me mentioned.

The problem is, I can't remove the battery with this model, it's embedded in the phone like an iphone. Also, I can't get it into fastboot or flashmode... as I can't really do anything with the phone right now it might be best to just bring it to a repair service...

I know battery is non replacable (without voiding warranty) but still there are ways to replace it
But it doesn't matter, bring your device to a service and hope they will bring it to life again.
Well I know this idea sounds stupid but I try it on my Xperia S when my phone gets hanged or when the screen is totally black like its dead. I just press the power button and volume button simultaneously for some seconds. And after that my phone gets restart. I'm already telling you that I use this method on my phone and it works too.
Thanks

You CAN remove battery, just not the normal way. You have to remove the screws, that's why you will have to void the warranty

[Q] Xperia Ion No Response

Rom: ZperiaION 4.5
Phone: Xperia Ion ATT Locked Bootloader
Problem: My phone has stopped giving any response what so ever to me.
1) My phone was working when I woke up as i turned off the Alarm and responded to a text.
2) I check 10 minutes later and my phone is not responding at all, no screen, no vibration, no response when plugged into PC and i am not able to do a force shut down by holding down the volume and power buttons for 30 seconds.
3) what worries me is that there is no LED light or any response whatsoever, nothing from any way that i know as a decently good user of this phone. Also, before the phone went down, it was at about 90% battery so im positive the battery did not drain randomly in 10 minutes.
Hmm
Put a rubber band around your power and volume button to force off and when it finaly responds
Use flashtool or sony updater service to fix your ion unless you have a unlocked bootloader then use flashtool
Any questions just ask
Sent from my LT26i using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Alright I have placed three rubberbands around each button, I have to go to school so when i come back in about 7 hours ill see what happens. And if there is still no response then flashtool is useless. thank you and i am trying your method
45mins should usualy do it
If not then you will kill your battery and you may not be able to recover
Anyway it may be warm
Just try flashing using flashtool then you should be fine
Damn...You never told me about the 45 minutes part . The Battery I think is dead because the Red LED was blinking while i tried to charge for the last 6 hours. So I have come to the conclusion that the batter is dead because it has never taken me this long when i fixed the soft-brick before.
Thanks for trying to help i guess @Envious_Data

I have the same problem
My lt28h randomly shutted down in school like the other one and when I connected it to the charger a red led blinked very short (about 1sec) and weak, after 3 sec the LED started blinking very fast and weak, also I were able to here quietly clicks everytime the led blinked.
I charged it for 24 hours already but I had no response, no vibration, no sound, no green or orange LED.
I flashed CM11 and just replaced my screen by myself and had a bug sometimes (once a day) that my sim-card didn't got detected and I had to restart.
Yeah, I'd just remove the battery and try to charge it separately and see if that helps.

z5 premium sudden death

About a week ago, with my battery at 39% i plugged my z5 premium in to charge and it never came back on again.
I have tried all the usual tricks, pwr and vol up, removing the battery, the sim slot button, and pretty much any combination of buttons and still nothing.
It will charge just fine, but will only reach the white sony xperia screen and no further. it will flash up the white screen then go black with the notification light flahing red 3 times and then staying red. once or twice it has started to load the 'powered by android' screen and then just blackness. If i hold vol down and plug into laptop the notification light will turn blue and it shows up as 'adb android device'. Thats the extent of the life left in it.
So what would people suggest as my next step? is it still possible to recover the data thats on the phone or is it a total loss?
I had exactly the same problem over a month ago. I am pretty sure it happened because of liquid damage to my motherboard.
I managed to bring it back to life by flashing with flashtool and ticking ALL wipes and resets available.
It worked fine until it died for good weeks later (I had left it to charge overnight and there were no signs of life the next morning). After a quick visual hardware inspection (aka teardown) I concluded that the only solution was to replace the motherboard. I did just that, and every other component works fine.
TL;DR: Give it a go, flash with all wipes and resets offered by flashtool (you'll lose all data) and hope for the best. You better be looking at prospective phones in case your mobo goes kaput.
EDIT: wow I'm only 4 months too late haha. Pretty sure he has a new phone already xD

If your computer cant detect the phone, it could be one of the following:
- Bad usb cable
- Bad usb charging port on the phone
- Dead battery
- Dead motherboard
If your computer doesn't make any sound when plugging the phone in, then missing drivers shouldn't be the problem and you should troubleshoot each of the possibilities I mentioned.

2-minute reset.
I thought mine was bricked after only 2 months. I came across this fix on the Sony website and it fixed mine where it could work again. I had to factory reset it. It was just locking up and freezing. Be sure to hold that button in for 2 solid minutes. I watched the clock. Longest 2 minutes of my life.

I am just adding a list of similar threads that have been recently posted regarding this strange sudden death issue, battery not charging, weird non-software bootloop.
Sudden Death
InfiniteBootLoop
Unable to Turn On
My Phone Just died (april2019)
Not charging (user is rooted though)
I think i will also collate many of the similar threads into titles and post it as a new thread. As this forum is extremely bloated and repetitive whilst simultaneously being confusing for some users.
I guess Z5P is old now, but trust me the XZ3 is complete garbage so support for Z5P should be much cleaner and better organised now.
Any news for this?
