So I got a flashing orange light on my EVO tonight when I plugged it in to charge, phone was dead, wouldn't turn on, dead battery. That's one reason you get a flashing orange light, a completely dead battery, just plug it in and let it sit for a bit and it will get a solid orange light. I advise waiting 20min or so then turning it on.
Side note, car chargers don't always have the power so you can use your phone while it's charging when the battery is really low, had it plugged it and was using it for an hour + and it still died

There are car chargers you can get that will charge the same as your wall charger. Read it and see if it says 1000mA.. There are also adapters that plug into 2 usb ports at 500mA equaling 1000 when charging your phone. Most car usb port chargers have 2 slots or more so its possible. You can also use the adapter method on your computer to receive the full 1000mA charge.
I'm using my palm pre car charger (original). I was streaming Pandora n checking my Facebook and it charged till it was full (green light n all)

Mine charger works for my car, but my moms has a usb port built into the car and that's the one that wouldn't keep my phone alive.

My EVO Shift completely discharged and when I plugged it in to recharge it, I got the same problem - amber light would flash 3 or 4 times then stop, it would not charge and not turn on. I removed the battery for 10min. With the battery removed I plugged in the USB cable into the computer and phone, pressed the power button, unplugged the USB, pressed the power button again, replaced the battery, plugged in the USB and the amber light went solid and appears to be charging now.
BTW, I'm posting this because the OP's solution of plugging "it in and let it sit for a bit" didn't work, it was plugged into the wall adapter all night and didn't charge. I could only get it to do so using the steps above. cheers.
If you happen to be near a Sprint store and the "let it charge for about 20 minutes until solid orange" didn't work, take your battery to them. They can boost it on their battery machine. I see a lot of customers just for this very reason.

I've had my EVO for just a few days and I got the abrupt shut down followed by flashing amber light also. The phone was charging off the usb of my laptop at the time. When i unplugged the phone the light turned off and the phone would not turn on. I thought I fried it because I did not know what flashing amber meant. What was strange about it was that not only did I not receive the usual "battery is nearing 15%, please plug in" notification but the phone powered off when I was reading an article about things to do to prolong battery life. Anyway, I proceeded to charge the phone from an outlet and now things seem to be fine.
I am having a similar problem with my HTC Incredible 2 on verizon. Last night it was charging just fine, and when I woke up this morning it was off and it won't turn on or do anything. I can plug it in and if I hold the battery it will flash the orange light a few times but it always stops. I've tried the fixes in this thread and nothing...what can I do?
It was still almost half way charged when I feel asleep last night so the battery wouldn't have run down. The only thing I'm worried about is if the charger did something to the battery but it seems unlikely as its a charger I've used often.

When the amber light is blinking, it basically means charging, but there is not enough turn on voltage to power on the device. If you were previously charging it > remove the battery for 5 minutes > replace it > charge the device on a WALL outlet, NOT a usb charging, i.e. computer, tv, xbox, etc. You should be good to go after that.
Well, when I plug it on a wall outlet and always this switching amber LED...
The fact is that this charger is working well with my other phone (HTC Sensation)
I'll try another charger if I found it !
Hello
This happens on my HTC HD2 when it's on the car mount and used as a GPS, and when there's too much sun hitting the device!
I know I should put the device in the shade, but for that, I'd have to buy a new car mount system, annoying...
In my case of desire sv which suddenly died and was "amber blinking", I had to just push the battery a little bit for it to start working again. Until that point of physical battery adjustment, I tried many options for the "amber blink" to go away.
Thank God, the phone is alive. Apparently, as I understand, the amber blink is to indicate that the battery is not present - perhaps. :on't Know::
I plug my phone into the charger, the battery icon shows a thunderbolt, then after about 30 seconds, the thunderbolt goes away and it won't charge. If I turn the phone off, it charges fine.
Anyone else see this?
No but I have noticed that the phone doesn't really like to charge to 100%... for whatever reason it says fully charged but as soon as I take it off it's 90%.
Nope, but it does seem to charge very very very quickly.
Never had any problems like that. Have you tried using a different USB cable?

I think I may have over reacted. I think the at&t charger I was using is bad. I tried to charge a friends phone and it did the same thing. Charged for about 10 seconds then stopped. I then got another charger and it seems to be charging fine.
Ok so everytime i turn my phone off to chager it will just turn back on. IT doesn't matter what percentage the battery is on
For Example:
1)the phone is on currently charging (44%) and i turn it OFF (with the charger still plug) it will just turn back on
2)My phone is off and i plug the changer it will just turn on
3)I let my phone die and i plug the charger on it will just turn back on
Im using Juggernaut v4.1 and my phone being doing this since Juggernaut v3.7
Can someone help... Is it the room or is it my phone
Similar issues
I have a rooted and lightly modded stock 2.3.6 but I've been having these issues ever since I rooted and I was on stock 2.3.5
1. Charger sometimes doesn't charge at all
2. If I'm on a call via bluetooth and I connect it, it won't charge until I hang up
3. My previous charger for my t959 was working for the 1st week and now it doesn't charge my phone at all.
4. after i plug in my phone to my oem charger it takes about 10 seconds to recognize it and then starts charging
I don't know what the hell this is but it's pissing me off. I've done a wiped dalvik and don't a clean install and nothing changes. I didn't have this problem the 1st week i had the phone but now on my 3rd week it's pissing me off.
I hope someone has an answer or at least a similar problem.
I think it is charging. It just not showing it is charging until your turn on the screen.
Happen to my phone too, but it is charging.
I would love it show the orange light when charging and green light on full charge.

No my phone won't charge! I've tried different chargers and it randomly charges. It's three weeks old and its' weird, now i've connected it to my laptop and the usb isn't even recognized anymore and I have the drivers for it.
Anyone with the same problem?
Good day!
I've been using the phone since May, but this September ive been experiencing a weird issue when it comes to charging my phone.
Sometimes it doesnt charge, what I needed to do is remove the battery, reinstall it, then power it on, then it starts charging once I plug in the usb cord.
After a couple of hours use, when I need to charge again, it wont charge when I plug in the usb cord. I need to reinstall the battery again for my phone to detect the cord or to show its charging.
The battery performance is still okay though, it doesnt have weird discharges or anything.. Its just that when its time to charge, I need to do the ritual again.
Thanks for all the kind replies ahead :victory:

Hi Guys,
I know there's a lot of threads about that Problem but Im really afraid of it.
I charged my SW3 to 99% while its ON. After that I turned it off to see if it charges till 100%. After this the surprise.. I turned it off while the charger was in or something it vibrated one time and turned off. I tried to turn it back on and no response even not a Vibration with / without charger. I left it for now without the charger to cool down but it's still not showing any sign of life even No Vibration with / without charger I just bought it from Amazon before two days and was charging it with a Samsung Galaxy plus one charger and when it was on it charged normal
I would appreciate every help Thanks !!
I finally fixed it it made me crazy... Even it was at 99% the battery drained very fast after an hour. So I did use the stock usb cable plugged it into the Sony Smartwatch 3 and connected it with the computer while its off. I wanted to reach 1% to turn it on. After I turned it on I used a normal charger to charge the Sony sw3. Now it's charging.
This is a very weird bug. What weve learned never ever charge your SW3 while its off and you try to turn it on. It will come into a black Screen loop.
Solution finally: Don't charge your SW3 until it's cooled down and fully drained in about 2 1/2 hours. First use your usb cable and Plug it in into the computer and Connect it with the SW3 while its off and charge it to 1?. Then Plug the cable out and turn your SW3 on and when its on you can start to use a normal charger.
Hope this helps...
It's creepy but totally real. It worked to me. I was change the usb source charge immediately after logo of smartwatch, and now it is working properly. Thanks for tip.
