Aluminum bumpers for nexus 5? - Nexus 5 Accessories

I had a devilcase for my HTC one and loved it but they aren't making a version for the nexus 5 unfortunately. Anyone know of anything similar for the nexus 5?

You mean the Neo Hybrid case? It's not aluminum, it's plastic and the case is crazy slippery. Not recommended.

Yup. I actually sanded mine and I've coated it with plastidip... Waiting for it to dry.. Hope to have much better grip now... Still looking for the perfect case....

I have the neo hybrid and its not slippery at all. The whole back is extremely grippy and only the outside lip is smooth plastic. Its far less slippery than the nexus4 and my old GS2.

Yours must be an exception then, since you're the only one I've seen say that.
The back on mine was incredibly slippery.

mine is extremely slippery swell. so is the plastic bumper, I wrote a complaint letter to soigen in the hope that they don't use that texture again. I still use the case though. might just end uonwith a cheap eBay tpu case with grippy edges.

I tried plastidip once, sounded great in theory until you put it in your pocket and it pulls out every piece of lint that was in there.

I would love an aluminum bumper. Hope someone knows of one in the works

Hi,
I have to agree, it's extremely slippy, so bad for me that I have already ordered replacement.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4

[edit] Call me stupid... I just had my Slim Armour case off and indeed it is *not* an aluminum backplate. I put it on so quickly when I first received it, and it had been outside in my mailbox all day, so it felt cold and with the anodized-look I just assumed aluminum without thinking about it very hard.
I agree with others regarding the slippery-ness of it though... But I really like the look so i'm just being really careful not to drop it when I whip it out of my pocket.

How about this one?
Im thinking if ordering one..

Great looking case, does little for actually protecting the phone though! Link
looks crazy as if there's actual water on it.
I'd get this case if it was in a solid color I'm looking for a really slim profile case like this one that's not too expensive.
The water droplets look very realistic and that's really cool. How's the grip? Does it feel slippery and erm.. plastic-like? lol
I'm thinking of getting the blue or the red one.

The grip is good, the bumps help a lot with it! It's not as grippy as a tpu case though. It's not slippy, but you can tell it's plastic!

Cruzerlite TPU Androidified REVIEW

Hey guys,
So Im fully migrated and with lots of cases to review. Im gonna start the serie with the Cruzerlite androidified. This case is one of my favorite ones (next to the diztronic) Its a perfect match between budget and looks. ITs thin, has the android in the back and gives good protection.
Here it is guys!
http://youtu.be/1RxYErG50A0
i also love this case... fits very snug
i just got mine today, anyone else have the holes slightly off?
Thanks for the video review. The sides look a little flimsy though. I still will probably buy one just because it has Andy the Android on it

When i first got mine i thought it didnt quite line up right, but then i figured out how to put it on right.
Dont start with a corner, start at the top or bottom and line up the mic hole. The other end will line itself up.
The fit really is perfect.

Btw - if you can't stand to look at the splotchy parts on the back of the translucent cruzerlites where it sticks to the phone, I followed another's recommendation by smearing a tiny bit of baby talcum powder inside the case, and it seems to work.
Maybe this is something cruzerlite could do at the factory? Talcum powder is a 1 on the mohs scale of hardness, so it's not an abrasive.

Damn, that's a good idea. I just tossed the cruzerlite to the side and got a speck case. I am going to have to try that. I like switching up cases every couple of weeks.
Pretty nice!
I just got mine today from Amazon.
Initials impressions is that it is quite nice. It fits pretty snug and looks nice on the phone. Especially if you like Andy the android. It is way easier to hold my phone now, especially with the side grips. I much prefer this soft TPU feel than to the hard plastic. There is a nice quality feel to the material.
My only complaint is the same as the users above me mentioned, the splotchy wet look on the back. Easily overcome with the talcum powder suggestion. Thanks zmore! Good looking out :highfive:
Phone is still quite thin after it is on. All in all, good buy, I highly recommend!
Now, back to flashing!

I had the same problem with the cutouts, but you can move it enough to line them up more or less. The cutouts are so big, they do not feel precision cut at all.
I imagine the talc trick would also make the case easier to move on the phone.
Not great with invisible shields as the case can pull up the edges due to the tight fit.
Overall, great for 10 bucks though.

is the power button cut out so we can use the IR blaster?
Look for pictures - in short yes the IR is fine.
It does not cover the whole phone. Back and sides. Top has a small notch for headphones trimmed out and bottom is open.
Most of these type of cases will always be that way. I think the POETIC case apparently had this issue.
How do you design a case and knowing all the specs and you forget about the IR ?

Nice case! I'm still hunting down the perfect case; meanwhile I've just ordered a cheap transparent case for about £3.
I'm tempted by the Nilkin, but the fact that it doesn't protect the top and bottom is a bit off-putting.
Something like the double-dip hard case would be great for me, but I'm just not keen on the colours they used.
I rather like the look of the Urban Armor Gear cases though. I just wish they had it in this colour.

The sides of the Nillkin are the smooth rubbery coating like you would find on the back of some of HTC's older phones (ie S710). The back is textured with a pattern, so it isn't the same feeling as the sides. I would say it's definitely less slippery than the phone naked.

Looking for a case like the Ringke Slim with full edge protection

I have the Ringke Slim and while I love the case I don't love the exposed top and bottom edges. I went on to try the Spigen Slim Armor but I'm not pleased with the sharp edges at the bottom, the added bulk, or the tactile feel of the buttons. Too difficult to press. Says the guy that flies by the thread with a one-liner to search Amazon. Like I said, super helpful. I had a specific request. I didn't ask "where can I find cell phone cases?" You are the ass with the useless response. Just trying to troll my help request. The only way your response could be more unhelpful would be if you said "Try searching online." Please go away if you have nothing constructive to contribute.
If anyone has a specific recommendation for a brand or model I'm all ears. I've spent a considerable amount of time on Amazon, eBay and elsewhere searching and haven't found it so perhaps what I'm looking for just doesn't exist.

I just checked it out. Looks great but its polycarbonate
Why is no one making a slim TPU case like the Ringke that covers all the edges? I found tons of knockoffs on eBay but still no edge protection on any of them. Weird.
There's always "that guy" in these threads. sad.
I know it's tpu but the diztronic probably offers the best protection to slim ratio. I have them for my GS3 & 4 (also have Ringke slims) . I personally don't like them after experiencing the Ringle slim though and that's what I prefer. The Ringke actually does offer decent top and bottom edge protection as it comes up above and below the phone edges. It would have to fall just right to hit the phone edge. One thing I dislike the most about diztronic is how cheap it looks and how cheap it makes the phone look. Totally takes away from the N5 looks imo
You can lightly sand the Ringke slim sharp edges. It really works.
The ever growing more popular unobtainable LG hardcover covers the top edge. Good luck finding one though
Protection vs slim vs materials = tradeoffs

You'll never have a hardcase that provides coverage for all 4 edges and all 4 corners.
There needs to be physical bending points so you can get the phone in and out. If you had all 4 corners and edges covered it would not be possible because of the rigid material it is made of. A 1 piece hardcase by design, can never offer full protection.
TPU/Gel cases can do this because they are soft and can bend/stretch easily, hard plastic doesn't. It gives a little bend, then it snaps.
The LG Hardshell comes closest, but the exposed bottom is necessary so you can physically bend the sides out and slide the phone in. It does have the best bottom protection I've seen though, as the corners wrap further towards the centre.

If it was a softer TPU I think it would work without too many issues.
I think I'm going to try the Diztronic case. It seems like the closest thing to what I'm looking for that I can actually get my hands on right now. I'm not excited about the buttons and may need to cut them out. I love the cutouts on the Ringke Slim. They work perfectly. Third time's the charm right?????

Sure, but then it would be a TPU case and not a hardcase.

When this LG hardcase was mentioned it didn't fully dawn on me that it was a rock hard solid plastic case - I'm a little dumb, I realize that. You are correct on all accounts.
Is the Ringke TPU? It is pretty firm. If the top and bottom were totally covered like most other cases except for a tiny bit maybe in the center (of the top and bottom edges) to provide a flex point when getting it off I think that would be perfect. Oh well.
Obviously these manufacterers should have consulted me!
