POSITIVE EXPERIENCE WITH A LITTLE NUDGE AND A NAME DROP FROM XDA!
Bought and just received one of these hybrid TPU/Hard Plastic cases: http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=44427&cat=4947
Very nice. Fits snug and feels slim still (I have been going naked, and finally decided to get a few cases).
It actually IMPROVES button functionality (Unlike some other TPU style cases I've read about) for those of us who's EVOs have a difficult power button. I really like using it with no battery door, so the red back shows through like a clear battery door would (Still have 2 of Joey's battery Doors ordered though!, and YOU SHOULD TOO!!!)
One complaint is that it shipped form DayDeal with a crack in the back, seen in the attached picture. I have written DayDeal to see what they say, and will update this post with a verdict if/when they do..
EDIT: They are sending me a new one free of charge, and are seemingly lettimg me keep the defective/cracked one. Had to arm wrestle a little, but they agreed. I would recommend purchasing from them still.
Cool, thanks for the info. I actually ordered this one off of ebay, but am still waiting to get it. You can get it for a few bucks cheaper. I also got one of the standard TPU cases, and they are pretty nice. The standard TPU cases have a great tight fit, but as mentioned, you need to add some tape to get the buttons to react better. So, I'm glad to hear that the buttons work well on these. The other reason I don't like the TPU cases is because they are not of great quality. They just feel cheap because of the edges not being smooth (excess plastic). Definitely worth the $5 price tag, but I want something a little nicer looking on my $450 phone.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Black-Smoke-Hybrid-Flexi-Skin-Cover-HTC-EVO-4G-/400142192129?pt=PDA_Accessories
Also, I would definitely be demanding a new one because of that crack. Hopefully they don't crack easily.
Wow...I feel like I got bent over for the price I paid compared to what they are selling them for on EBAY....Oh well...Shipping was included on mine so it's not too big of a difference.
On the crack...The hard back feels nice and sturdy and don't think it will crack easily. I think I just got a bum one.
There is also a little bit of a chip @ each of the cut-outs for speaker, cam and flash, that look like a byproduct of production, but they are hardly noticeable and would it have been only those, I wouldn't have complained probably...
Thanks for the info that they're on EBAY now!
Thanks for the link to their ebay listing. Saves me a few bucks over purchasing on their website.

The lens does sit recessed from the case.

Daydeal made good on an order I had when i had my TP2. No questions asked, actually contacted me to tell me about defects. Very good company.

I see this question a lot from people and I'm guessing they don't realize the camera has a bezel around it that already protects it when you put it down on the desk, etc.

I realize the camera has a bezel around the lens. But if I set the phone down on a rough surface and uneven and surface, such as asphalt, that tiny bezel will not protect the lens. However if the camera lens does not protrude at all from the case, there is more of a chance the camera will be protected.
I just got mine today. I ordered from ebay. I am quite pleased with it. I can't believe how much easier the buttons are to push with this case.
Great Case
I bought two of these cases straight from daydeal and one was cracked and the other was messed up on the side. I called them and they sent me two more no questions asked. I love these cases they are great. I have bought many cases for my phone and these are by far the best and and Daydeal is a great company.

I'm guessing you don't realize that this so called "bezel" is nothing more than fail. I have never set my phone down on anything I would consider a rough surface (certainly not asphalt) and my camera lens has at least half a dozen noticeable scratches on it. There is not a single scratch on any other part of the phone, only the camera lens itself is scratched.
If this bezel does such a good job of protecting the camera lens then why does mine have scratches all over it?

I'm curious about this and I'm asking with no malice of forethought or intention, but why would anyone set a $500 piece of equipment down ON a camera lens, regardless of what the manufacturer tells you about a bezel or not (regardless what I have said) face DOWN on asphalt and then state that that the camera lens has scratches on it? I'm really curious.
Do you also key up your car door and stand back in amazement that keys have that effect on car doors and paint and metal?
Reminds me of an old joke:
Patient: Doctor, it hurts when I stick this pencil in my eye.
Doctor: Then don't stick the pencil in your eye.
WHY take a device with a camera lens and put it face down (up, that is, meaning with the camera lens on the asphalt) and then act amazed that the lens was scratched? Was it something unexpected?
I mean you haven't set your device down on asphalt but what do you imagine would be the outcome? The bezel is not meant to protect your device's lens from irresponsible behavior, just casual putting it on a desk.
I put my device on a desk all day long and my camera lens is perfectly fine. What kind of desk do you put yours down on that it has so many scratches after only 2 months?
I just checked my device, not a single scratch. I've had it since the first day it was released. Absolutely NO camera lens scratches. And, I keep my device in my pocket.
Yeah, I'm not sure why anyone would do that (setting $600 phone on asphalt). That's a question you should be asking ritzbrie.
I have taken great measures to keep my phone looking brand new. I usually keep it in my pocket, but when it's charging I will lay it on my computer desk or coffee table. There have been times I have placed my phone on the couch or the bed, but I seriously doubt the couch cushion is what scratched my lens.
I started out always laying it camera side down because I wanted to make sure I didn't get any scratches on the screen, but I soon came to find that I now have multiple scratches on the camera lens. It's frustrating to say the least. To my knowledge I have never placed the phone on any surface that could potentially scratch the lens even if the bezel wasn't there.
Now I won't even set the phone directly on any hard flat surface. If it's going to be on my computer desk for charging I place it on the mouse pad. On any other desk I will make sure it is resting on an envelope or a note pad of some sort.

The accurate analogy for my situation would go more like this..
Are you amazed that your two month old car door is all keyed up when your car has rarely been out of the garage and you have only used the remote key-less entry to unlock it?

And my answer would be yes! (although I wouldn't put it past some douche bag to key up my car in the Wal-Mart parking lot just for the hell of it, but that is clearly not what has happened to my phone)

THIS is why I don't go to Walmart, the douchebags. Of course, in NYC, there are no Walmarts. Probably to keep the douchebags out of their parking lots if there were any.

Ever try lifting something heavy in a pair of gym shorts? I rather set the phone down on the concrete than risk having it fall from my pocket onto the asphalt.
Just a little FYI, under VERY close inspection, this so called bezel that is supposed to protect the camera lens, doesn't even protrude from the back of the phone as far as the lens does.
What I'm saying is, the lens itself sticks out further than the surrounding bezel. So when the phone is resting on a flat surface it is actually the camera lens it is resting on, and I guess this protects the shinny bezel from getting scratched?
Hi..
Im not sure if anyone else is feeling what I'm feeling, but I'm literally scared to put this phone down on a hard surface... I feel that back camera lense will get scratched quite easily...
At the moment my phone is balancing on a pair of socks...
Somewhat agree - I mean, my Desire was the same, I think I'm just conscious of the fact that this is a gorgeous device and I don't want to mark it in any way.
I have an Oakley sunglasses bag that I rest it on when face up, but mostly I just put it face down. I mean, you can attack the screen with keys and it won't scratch, so I figure face down is the safest. Plus the back of the phone looks so amazing!
Thats a good point.
Looking forward to when Casemate release their cases for this phone. Hopefully that will have some sort of protection for the lense
A day after I received mine, I'd already managed to put a small yet noticeable scratch across the camera's glass surface and its metal rim. That's despite the fact that I don't place it on hard surfaces nor pocket it without the use of the official pouch. Though I'm thinking it might be a factory defect, it can't be stressed enough how vulnerable that particular area of the device is.
Have a scratch on the metal rim also, very small but yeah on a brandnew device..

I'm exactly the same. It's a bit frustrating to think they put all that effort into giving us the Gorilla glass 2 on the screen, extra strong plastic on the case and an easily damaged camera lens that protrudes from the back. Go figure.
It wouldn't have been quite as bad if they'd recessed the glass lens so that it's less likely to come into contact with any surfaces.
I hope those socks are clean!
Also have a scratch on mine, just by the rim. Didnt think anything of it before getting the phone but it is badly thought out imo. I would have rather the phone be a little thicker and the lense/glass better protected than it is. Ah well...

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it is slightly recessed - by looking at pictures I don't know if it is recessed enough to properly prevent scratches, though.
Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577895&page=3

I applied a cut-out of the original HTC screen protector on the lens and can't see any reduction of image quality ... Hopefully it protects the lens ...

It is recessed? Crikey, I can't see or even feel it. The surfaces most likely to scratch it are probably rough enough to reach the glass despite the microscopic recess
I bought a White Frosted Gel case. If I put the phone on a flat surface the lens is protected by the case. That is if you want a case
using an adhesive 16mm rooundpad
On the cam of the 1S the lens is slightly recessed. Unfortunately not on the 1X.
I put an anti sliding, anti vibrating pad for soundspeakers on top of of it. Sticks during daily use like a charm and is removed and put back for filming in seconds.
Yeah, really simple but effective
Edit: No way I am hiding this beast in a pouch. It shall shine and chime. The pouches are for my daughters
Hmm it is actually fractionally recessed, like a fraction of a mm. But not enough that if there was a bit of grit on the table, it wouldn't catch it. Also the plastic lens surround (silver finish), is not the same quality as the polycarbonate. So yes, it screams "scratch me" which is a bit silly considering the rest of the phone. You would actually be better to put it face down than face up on a table, but then you can't see the screen! Doh!
For those with the white phone, you could consider HTC HC C700 clip on back cover. It is basically translucent so you can still see the back through it, but it stupidly doesn't have the cut-out holes for the forthcoming docks. For that you will need HTC HC C740 clip on covers which don't have a see-through version! *sigh*
Have a look at the pouches thread in the accessories,I got a nice HTC side flip case phone still feels great in hand but the.plastic back is just enough so you can put it down and the lense does not touch the surface

Hey guys. So I really like the feel of the naked Nexus, but I noticed that the camera part touches surfaces whenever laid down. Anybody ever had problems with this being scratched and affecting pics?
Sent from the Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
When it's laid down it doesn't exactly rests on the lens itself. It actually rests on the top metal ring of the lens, It's hard to see but if you look closely you can see it.

Even when considering how small the amount is that the silver ring is raised above the lense? (Its so small, I wouldn't even consider it raised above it, I'd consider them even)
The silver edge is raised above the surface of the lens. A case isn't going to help that much either. The lens is exposed no matter what...
Actually, the curved back makes the camera lens rise up a few millimeters. Only the bottom part of the area with the LED flash is actually touching the surface

Also the video and audio is using the pixel 2 xl with the rode video micro.
Would you mind posting some pictures of the phone in the case? Specifically I am interested in the front view of how much bulk it adds to the edge of the phone when looking at it straight on, and how much it sticks out above the screen(if at all). Would really appreciate it. Thank you.
Looks like the Pikata where the lens bump might touch surface when laying flat.
Please check with phone in.

If you lay the phone flat on the table the screen is flush with where the case ends. I would not consider this a lay on table design. I have a screen protector though so that adds a tiny bit of thickness.
Do these pictures help? Sorry I have to wait till I get my wife's pixel 2 to take more pictures of my phone in its case. It is very very little bulk on the sides. One of the thinnest cases ive seen. Not quite as thin as the MNML case but its very very close.

It's the Skinomi screen protector. I personally hate screen protectors and have never used them on an Android phone and I've never scratched or broken a screen. I don't like any screen protectors including this one just because they can be annoying but this is a necessary annoyance until I get back from my trip overseas. I'd hate to be in another country and either break or scratch my screen. The Skinomi is okay in my opinion but I'm definitely not one to judge screen protectors because I pretty much hate them all.

The camera is flush so I wouldn't say it adds any actual protection if it falls straight on its back. The case is just a hair thicker than the camera bump so it should not scratch if you rub the phone around on a table or something but if its on concrete or something I bet it would scratch the lens.
Where is it in black for XL 2 not on Amazon
I dont see it anymore. Looks like they took the black off for the 2 XL. maybe they ran out of stock.
I've been using this case for about a week and can say it is one of the better cases I've used on a phone. It is a bit slippery out of the box, but once you "break it in" and has plenty or grip. The buttons are pretty solid and cut-outs are decent. You will not get much screen protection if any but I feel more confident about the protection this will provide then the MNML. Like mentioned earlier, the camera if for the most part flush with the case surface but it will provide a little lift of the surface then going naked without a case.
Hi,
I got my Z Fold3 this week and I've been loving it! I got it with the Flip Cover (S Pen included) case, however, and I was not very happy with that. The flip on front almost never actually stays on top of the screen and it adds a tremendous am https://1921681001.id/ ount of akward bulk when used in folded mode. I've been reading other posts on t https://19216811.cam/ his Reddit and looking through reviews, but I've still had trouble deciding the best case for me. My only necessity is that it protects the phone from at least minor drops just in case, but along with that here are some things that would be preferable:
It doesn't need adhesives (most importantly, though, it stays attached to the Fold without issue even after a while).
It provides hinge protection.
Doesn't cover/make unaccessable too much of the front screen.
If it has hinge protection, I'd prefer that to at least let me put one half flat on a table when folded like a DS (aka I wanna be able to put it on a desk like a laptop).
Either an optional method of bringing my S Pen or a stand would be neat (least needed of these 5).
With all that in mind, even if no case perfectly meets all my wants, what would you all say is my best bet?

Apparently the hinge panels crack pretty easily. Particularly the one that holds the S Pen.

dropped my phone twice with it. no cracked hinge. the initial version does have a hinge getting loose holding the spen when folded over time. probably because of the pressure exerted on it while carrying.

I'm still looking. Had the Samsung silicone cover initially, but the front frame yellowed (was white) and turned brittle and broke. Now have the Spigen Air Skin, but it has the adhesive for the front cover, and it doesn't hold on anymore and cover slips off all the time.
