How to disable Google automatic updates forever - Galaxy Grand Duos i9082 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I was on GENNXT SUPERIOR ROM - the Russian build for quite sometime.Today while I phone was idle, some google update downloaded itself. Once the it applied itself, the language went back to Russian. To make matters worse, the phone went into boot loop mode. It would start, apply google update, work for sometime and then reboot again. Finally had to do a factory reset and wipe all my contacts/messages. This really pissed me off as I have been seeing this bull**** about "automatic" update for quite sometime. Is there way to permanently disable it so that updates are only downloaded when I approve them?

Do you mean Google Play store auto update? If so, launch Google play, setting, auto update, set to "Do Not Auto-update apps".

Google Play services 8.1.02 messed up my phone - can't roll back

Hi everyone,
I updated my Google Play Services to the file discussed here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/08/30/google-play-services-v8-1-begins-rolling-out-to-prepare-for-android-pay-changes-variant-naming-scheme-for-lollipop-devices-and-more-apk-teardown-download/
It completely messed up my phone and google play services keep crashing. I've tried rolling it back to factory (settings>apps) but one of my device administrators keeps preventing me from doing so - Android Device Manager. I keep trying to deactivate as an admin to no avail - I keep tapping "deactivate" and nothing happens.
I'm totally stuck.
Hopefully this is an easy fix...?
UPDATE - I've managed to uninstall Google Play Service's updates (putting it back to factory) but now I'm getting constant pop-ups saying that it's crashed, and now Google Play Services doesn't show up under Settings>Apps.

Because its getting crashed, you'll have to wait a bit for android device manager become inactive..
You can stay with marshmellow google service(hopefully) with thismethod to prevent crash..
Go to app, clear cache/data all google related app (google service, google play, google keyboard, google contact/calendar sync) for contact and calendar its better to backup 1st as its might get wipe..
Lastly..go to account &sync, delete your google account..
Reboot, try login again with play store.
For some reason when I go to Accounts & Sync>Pick my google account>three dots>remove account nothing happens...?
EDIT - All is well now. Just had to give things time to unsync and reset. Thanks @faizalotai!!

After reboot?? is your google play able to download apps?
Be careful manually updating Google Play Services from some .apk website. There are many different specific versions and if you install the wrong one, you are like OP....in a pickle. Best to just wait on the OTA from google to hit your phone.
Thanks for getting me out of my mess everyone.
I've been running rooted android for a long time (since HTC Desire Z/G2) and I've never had a problem installing a Google Play Services APK until today.
I haven't been having much luck with the G4 so far - I bricked my first one messing with the build.prop, now this - makes me nervous to update to a 10F build.

Update issue

Attempting to update my N7 to apply the latest Android updates. It is rooted, but standard Android and was on 6.0.1 MMB29K and I've managed to get it to MMB29V by using Flash Fire and doing incremental downloads/updates, but it refuses to go any further. FF goes through all the motions of looking like it is doing something, but the device always ends up still on MMB29V.
Where am I going wrong?
Thanks for all your help with that one, much appreciated.
Now for my next trick. When I go into Settings, tap About Tablet and then System Update the settings app crashes. Also, I have never had my apps set to auto update in the Play Store, but that setting changed on its own and updated everything in the background without my knowing. I have not been into the Play Store settings in months (years?) and could not have accidentally toggled this back on, so how did that happen? This is an immense irritation, as I like to dictate when to update things!

Bootloop after OTA google play services, need help!

Hello guys
this monrning i had a popup of googleplay service ota installed, i opened magisk manager installed it after ota , reboot device and now im stuck on boot with the logo , I have too many important files of my job in the phone that i cannot lost, i will appreciate any help if somebody could help me fiix it without format it, i promise a donation for who will help me without format it! Thanks in advance!
you have made a Google play system update and not an ota firmware update. after the google play system update you do not need to go to the magisk manager and flash magiks in the inactive slot you can only do this after an ota firmware update. but since you did this with the google update, you switched from the active slot to the inactive slot, you have to switch to the other slot by fastboot, then the box should boot again.
I flashed twrp and flashed again the Rom and fixed it
I guess you have a custom rom?

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for posting this answer!
If anyone's reading this because you got a bootloop due to a Google Play Services update, this could be the reason why. I was soft-bricked because Google Play Services decided to push an update to the latest version even though I intentionally did not update my Pixel 3 firmware to the latest build (wanted to stay on Android 10 but update for was for 11).
If this is you, and you have an unlocked bootloader, go ahead and OTA to the latest firmware (be sure to remove the "-w" flag in the flash-all.bat file to prevent a data wipe!). The bootloop will fix and you'll be able to boot correctly. You'll have to re-flash Magisk again, but at least you'll be able to recover your files.

Hey! This was what happened to me this evening. My dad's phone suddenly bootlooped again and again. Initially, I thought that a factory reset could solve this. Did that and after reinstalling everything the same thing happened again. Found out that this only happened after I updated google play services. Is there any way I could download 'not' the latest version of google play services?
EDIT: After a factory reset I downloaded a previous version of Google Play services and the bootloop was fixed. Thought I could share this here so that others could be helped. Maybe the latest version (23 Feb 2022) was not compatible with the phone. But does anyone know any workaround so that I could download the latest version of Google Play services?
EDIT EDIT: Today, 25 Feb 2022, the phone was stuck on boot again. Found out that Google decided to force push an update to Google Play service (ver. 22.02.21). I was able to reboot the phone into lock screen and turned on airplane mode. The phone is working fine on airplane mode but as soon as I turned it off, the same thing happened again. Really frustrated with this incompatibility between the phone and Google's services.

I have the same problem here, after google play service auto-update to version 22.x, my phone bootloop. Are you have found a solution for this?
Download another Google play services apk for your android 10 or 11 or 12 from apkmirror and install

thanks for your response, but I've done it many times. I have downloaded google play ver 21.x, disabled auto-update, and disabled internet permission, but it always forces update to 22.x when I'm going to install or update some application. I'm very stuck with this incompatibility, are you have another solution?

Completely disabling auto-updates on Mi A2 Lite

Even though I had disabled automatic system updates in the developer settings, my phone still booted up to Pie after restarting. Is there a way to completely stop the phone from even downloading updates, let alone applying the updates?
At first boot without sim I've disabled WiFi. Probably just after the login with my account. Than I received the notification of an update, I've hidden the notification and I've disabled automatic updates in dev settings
Maximum time with connectivity 20 seconds... No enough time to download any update
Just rooted my phone to stop installing updates. It will still download the update though.

Question Update to Android 12 fails at 25% each time

I have an unlocked Fold 3, purchased directly from Samsung. When I try to do the OTA update to Android 12, after the reboot into the updater (the robot screen), it fails every time at 25% and then reboots back into 11. I have verified Google play services are up to dare.
Anyone have an idea other than doing a factory reset and then trying?

Are you taking an OTA update that was pushed to your phone? Or are you trying to manually update it?
If it's the OTA, use Odin to do a fresh install. You will likely end up losing stuff but that makes it a clean install. Backup everything, screen shots for things you can't just backup, and you should be back in the saddle.
There's not much else you can do via OTA. Even Sammy will suggest a reset, but they aren't much help anyway.
Try using Samsung smart switch through a pc. Connect your phone to pc and there you can select update and it shall update your phone. Hopefully this will pass without issue.
