[Q&A] CyanogenMod 11.0 | Android 4.4 KitKat [UNOFFICIAL] - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Let's try and put all the questions here so we keep the Dev thread clean.
Sent from inside the time vortex

Aren't bugs supposed to be posted in the dev forum? To me the Q&A forums should be like "How do I find the freaking developement options" or "What is ART". Seems silly to have a Q&A about a rom thats in developement.

Yeah but people are asking the same questions over and over

I'll ask here too, can someone please tell me if HDMI out is working???

New bugs that haven't been reported 100 times already, and that come with and ONLY THAT COME WITH a logcat showing the log of error should be posted in development forum.
Silly or not, this is a strategy for moving non development questions out of dev threads that has proven effective on XDA and that has specficially been appreciated by Albinoman since he started building CM for the HTC Sensation over a year ago.
This will also hopefully cut down on the number of "Wow! This ROM is awseome!" posts that litter development threads and make it hard to find real issues. Because he is a particularly awesome Developer, Albinoman gets quite a bit of those. Posts like that and repeat reports of known bugs, and even reports that say "everything works great" do little more than bury useful development related posts that would be useful to a developer. Albino has previously expressed his frustration over this in other threads.
So please, everyone please use this thread for all the questions, reports of smooth operation, and appreciate posts about how awesome Albino is.
And for that matter, (this is directed at everyone) if you all really love Albino's work so much, toss him a few bucks. He has worked countless hours trying to sort out everything from major issues to tiny annoying bugs to keep your phones running far better than they did on the day you first took them out of the box. Send a buck or two (Or twenty!) his way to thank him for his hard work.
Click below to donate to him....(Yes, this button donates to Albino, not me)
Note: The name on the paypal account may say patricia, this is because it's a family paypal account.

Hey guys, quick question; how do I enable the option to save photos to SD card with this camera? By the easy this ruin is awesome... Thanks Albino and the team

Question
So I downloaded 11/13 and so far the only thing that I can't get to work is the auto rotate function. I tried to change it in stetting by turning it on and off by that has not seemed to get it to work. Any ideas?
Lastly I was playing a games (Clash of Clans) before I flashed my phone i backed up everything via titanium backup, once I got done flashing and installed the game with data it wouldn't start were I had left off. It just wanted to initiate a new game. Could this be due to compatibility with the game on 4.4? Or am I just doing something wrong?
Thanks

I don't think Titanium works with 4.4 yet. So any of your save data in Titanium will not be able to be restored....yet. Ephisis on yet.

If it can be done go to Camera, hit the menu button, and look for the settings menu in there. (It's all icons so I can't tell you what anything is called.)
But that option may not be added to the camera yet.

When I was on the SGS4G forums we put questions in its own Q&A thread and it worked really well.
BTW anyone else having issues with the sound search widget?

Titanium worked fine for me. Also time is updating right and Wi-Fi is working great. Only issue I have is the green lines on my ffc.

Are you to running ART or Dalvik? Titanium will not work using ART. Many bugs going on with ART as it is experimental and it had been recommended by all the developers I've seen to stick to dalvik for now

Mute not working
I am unable to post in the dev thread as I do not have a high enough post count but I am having issues with mute on the ROM. While on a call if I push mute, the button lights as if it is muted but I have confirmed that it does not actually mute anything. This can be rather awkward to say the least. Looking through the dev thread, I saw one or two people mention the same issue but it seems to have gotten buried in all the other posts.
Anyone have any ideas or can we get this added to the bug list?

one suggested solution is formatting the SD card to vFat

I formated my SD card to vfat but still won't show up.I guess any other suggestions would be appreciated. But not a big deal to me

Did you mean that you aren't able to access external SD?
If so, I had the same problem until I updated to 11-15. Think it was fixed in update.
BTW, remember to change File Manager access mode (File Manager app - in general settings) make sure to change from Safe Mode to Enable Root Access Mode.
I thought the ROM still had that bug until I found root access option lol.

Do that plus the volume down. Was just messing with different combos.

Does anyone have a workaround for the proximity sensor issue while in calls? When a call is dialed and sent the screen turns off and you are unable to use the dial pad while in call. I believe it was also mentioned in the other thread.

Its possible that its not a rom issue. The proximity sensor on the S4 is known to foul easily from dust.
But it also cures easily by hitting it with compressed air into the speaker grill. Its certainly worth a try.

Hello folks, my name is CB and I am no developer.
I neither want nor deserve any recognition or status and I don't want
any donations for the work I've done. I can cut and paste and I got lucky
that the people who have gone before me made all this **** very compatible.
I have gotten permission to use this base and this kernel. I got tired of waiting
and asking for someone to release a rom like this so I took matters into my own hands.
This is an ATT base and it
DOES NOT SUPPORT WIFI CALLING
at this time.

TO INSTALL
- Make a Nand Backup
- Download rom.zip and place on sdcard
- Boot into clockwork recovery
- DO A FULL WIPE 3 DAMN TIMES!
- Install zip from sdcard
- Once zip has finished installing, reboot
- Now wait a minimum of 10 minutes, seriously...
- Reboot
ALSO I SUGGEST
After waiting 10 mins from first boot, batch restore all apps with data
THEN REBOOT
Then go and restore the user data like mms, contacts, wifi etc.
THEN REBOOT INTO RECOVERY and wipe cache, dalvik and fix permissions
Let the Rom settle for 5 mins after home screen boots.
This sequence will ensure a more stable system.
And also, Freeze wifi sharing and wifi sharing manager
and try it WITHOUT any OC apps first, if you followed all the above instructions it
should sleep very efficiently and be very responsive.
If your device is bricked at any time during the use of this rom I cannot be held responsible.

Good to see you back I ran your rom since you posted it and it worked great had a couple little issues but really smooth and had great battery life for me. I imagine you had an issue because of some apps which you had included? Either way don't matter to me but hope your rom is here to stay and you continue to work on it bro

Not sure how your observation is at all helpful or needed. I am sure he is aware of why it was taken down and I was not asking him that. I was asking if the reason it was taken down was addressed. Otherwise, it may be taken down again. I think it is a fair question and deserves an answer.

Well i believe it was only root explorer... You can always download the rom and see if it's in there. And if you fear the piracy police, just remove it. You shouldn't really be pressing for a question to be answered when it was just recently asked. Such demands makes you look arrogant.

Weekly ICS ROM Updates

Hi all,
I am going through all the threads that have ics based roms for our phone and thought it might be a good idea if we had a communal collation of all ics roms that are active in this forum with provided chainlogs and small reviews of said rom and what issues they have.
Reason for this is simple, to help other users that are not confident in flashing up to 4.0.3 unaware that they may run into something that they did not bargain for.. Hopefully this way we
A) Get a general run down each week as to what rom is working well which are not.
B) Issues/bugs.
C) Reviews of what works and not.
D) Temp fixable issues ie: auto rotation.
E) May help in less clutter in actual development thread.
I thought I would put this out see if anyone agrees here. I am more than welcome that if we use this thread as a starting point.
In no way shape or form that this thread will be used as a means of competitiveness between devs, to start flaming in any sort of fashion, this is purely a thread designed to help everyone with ics progression where its at, what dev's are up too and which would be safe to flash and what is not and is for experimental use.
Hopefully this could be a useful thread, with the dev's permission in doing this of course
Cheers.
I like the idea
+1 to this idea!!
There are already Q&A threads for each of the ROM's. Why make the board more cluttered than it already is by re-posting what is already in those threads?
People need to learn to use the search function and stop being lazy and actually take the time to read a thread every now and then. A thread like this will do nothing but enable the lazy to be even less productive and will not help. You will just see the same questions asked here over and over and over and over and over just like in all the other threads.
Also if people would read a damn OP like they are supposed to before flashing a ROM they would already know what does and doesn't work and if the ROM is a RC or experimental.
+1

Valued response, and yes using the search tool does help, but. rather than searching for what is needed why don't we have one thread to sum up on all progression? This thread is not designed to have countless questions all this is to gather weekly updates on ics roms from there respected developer. If someone wanted to ask questions they should be directed to the respected Q&A thread as they have there own. If someone wishes to choose to read up on what is happening in the world of ics t989 development then they come here nothing more nothing less.
As this wouldn't be hard to do at every week commencing someone can be anyone can choose to post up any sort of update to any rom and that is valid for that week only... then make up another thread so for example this one wouldn't spiral out of control and inform a mod to delete or close thread... simple that way it would stay fresh relevant with what we want to know, and of course anyone can participate in this.
Again thanks for your input, I'm not saying this is what we should be doing but a suggestion to everyone and see if this would make life a little easier on some. Alternatively if you don't like it then don't post anything worth mentioning and leave for people who could benefit from it
Cheers.

Echo?
Are there any ICS ROMs that do not have an echo????
It seems to be an issue with the flashing process as far as echo goes...easy does it, my DD has no echo...actually while many people have reported that among other bugs the only one I have is the reboot hang...which really...tough **** I have to hold the power button down the few times I need to turn it off lol. Oddly though it does not hang if I reboot into recovery from rom manager.
Ics is really weird...everyone is getting different bugs following the same install process. I'm guessing some of our devices are more willing to adapt to the skyrocket kernel than others...

Well before I went on vacation Tuesday I was playing around with a few of the different ics that are there for tmo gs2 and found that a lot of issues went away when I unmounted the SD card. The camera had no problem and I didn't notice any echoed sound. Kind of strange but one thing I noticed that a lot of native ics devices don't have external SD cards. Might be something for devs to look at.

OK please try to go easy, Im not a noob (Im just getting old) I just had my i717 note 1 stolen and i got an att Galaxy S3 on the way... Just prepping, I want to do the most stable paranoid android build out and get into some phablet action. Where can I get the install files for the 3/15 version, it sounds like thats the most stable at this point, any suggestions or points to the contrary, but most importantly where can I find the basic files for the 3/15 and whatever else you need to get from stock ui to PA... Any tips are so greatly appreciated, seriously. XDA love..
Just need to be pointed in the right direction, need full camera/main functions to maintain functionality so whats the way to go for stable tablet style PLEASE HELPPP, LOL
Sincere sincere thanks from an overworked and slightly behind the curve but loyal and dedicated Android user.

S3 lockups and LTE?
Hi
I put this on my GS3 (I747 AT&T) last night and so far it's pretty good.
I have noticed some weird occasional lockups and reboots, which is find for unofficial rom, I know what I'm getting into.
My other issue is that it seems to prefer 3G, HSDA, or HSDA+ over LTE even though I'm in a market with extensive LTE coverage. Is there any way to "weight" this?
Also the on-screen soft keys seem redundant, is there a way to disable them without disabling the status bar (PIE mode hides both)?
Thanks!

Lockups and reboots are kernel related you can try flashing another kernel (or wait for an update) I use this. It's the 4/09 All-Star Devs Kernel. You have to make sure if you flash a kernel not to go any newer than 4/09/13 or it won't work this this ROM until it gets updated.
Make sure your APN settings are correct, make sure LTE is selected in your settings and if all else fails do a Speed Test to check your speeds.
You can disable Nav Bar (Bottom) Settings > Hybrid Properties > Nav Bar 0% Apply and reboot if it prompts for it.

Awesome, thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot!
Actually, I have noticed the same thing for me, only in the past two days.. Specifically: random sleeps of death with no regularity, and when trying to use Spotify, or I Heart Radio when plugged into my headphones (Samsung set that came with the phone) phone will not play music through the app, but it will work just fine when plugged into an aux cable... I have changed nothing in my kernel settings, or system settings since things settled down.
Very strange.
Thanks I was having some problems that kernel seem to fix them.

In the video, it sounds like I'm placing the phone down with some force but I've activated the sound even when putting it down super gently.
Here's the video:

If anyone can tell me how to disable this noise or what causes it, I would be greatly appreciative!

What do the instructions mean by "update recovery"?
Thanks!

Simple answer:
The instructions are simply telling you to make sure that you have the most recent recovery for your device is installed, and if not, to install it. Oftentimes not having an updated recovery is what causes the Status 7 errors when trying to flash new ROMs.

Uhm, that is odd? Though it sounds like it might be the notification sound of the microsd card disengaging and re-engaging?
Just a thought.
I read in the PA development thread that ATT and TMO roms are.interchangeable. Has anybody tried flashing the T-Mobile PA onto their ATT s3?

Other than the updated kernel and displays drivers there is no difference in roms. Regardless if it'll work it won't give you anything you don't already have.

Lg g3 d850
I've got a bump'd G3 on twrp, what's it gonna take to get this D851 rom to work on my D850? If I were to flash it as is, would it run fine? Any risks? I remember almost bricking a note 2 a year or two ago having accidentally flashed a GS3 rom but it came out okay.
As is it wouldn't work. I know the model needs changed in the build and something else I'm forgetting... Best option is to wait for the dev to get it where he is happy with it then it will prolly start being ported to other devices. They had a port running for the d855 somewhere
Does anyone else have a problem when trying to download ANYThiNG any apk what so ever?
like 1/5 of things i try to download work. Not limited to downoading the google app store
Why am i having so many problems with this rom!!! GRRRR
Hey guys I have the D855 version and I was thinking if I could install this ROM on it and boot via fastboot.
No you cannot install this ROM as it's only built for the D851. I have a feeling there won't be any work on a port by the developer simply because he has stated he has plans to work on Lollipop; that's one reason why the last update was almost a month ago.

Not sure what issue you are having. I used the latest PAgapps and have downloaded several items from Playstore and apk such as xposed mods also used titanium to restore apps with out any trouble. Have you tried wiping and doing a clean flash again
No 5GHz WiFi
Only issue I've encountered (besides usual BT/cam) is that phone does not see my 5GHz channel on my router.
Camera Question

Try reflashing and using a different gapps. No one thus far has mentioned keyboard issues. You could also try downloading swiftkey from the playstore. Its a free keyboard app

Time stamp is off on xda so it's hard to be sure.. Did you post a second build today? The one I tried couldn't pair with my watch (clean flash and wiped watch). Similar issues to early "bluetooth works" rom builds where it sees the device but isn't able to pair.
Side note- check your month in main threads title. ☺

[Q&A] [ROM][D851] CyanogenMod 12.0

Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM][D851] CyanogenMod 12.0. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Please be careful
Pretty sure I'm out of luck here and kind of screwed :/ but I edited the build.prop to 640, after saving etc. and rebooting I'm bricked. Phone won't boot pass the LG screen - and can't get into any sort of recovery. If anyone has any suggestions I would highly appreciate it. In that 'freak out' mode right now so please leave any criticisms to yourself. Thanks.
Deep sleep?
Anyone hit deep sleep? Tried this and the PAC-MAN version and I'm unable to to hit it.

Make sure the phone is powered off. Power it back on while holding the Power button and the volume down button. As soon as the LG Logo appears, let go of both buttons and then hold them again. You will get a message asking if you wish to factory reset. Select yes and and it will boot to recovery. Reflash the rom and you should be fine.
Pretty hard to "brick" a phone from modifying your build.prop
Video Recording
Won't let me post in the main thread (new account), but it looks like the video recording issue is related to old drivers
review.cyanogenmod. org/#/c/78130/ (had to add some spaces before .ORG as it won't let me post an outside link yet.)
Props to $droyd$ for pointing this out.
Work Around for Hung Lock Screen
Occasionally, the lock screen becomes unresponsive to touch. I've found consistently that turning the screen off, then holding a finger on the touchscreen while pressing the power button to wake it up causes it to become responsive again. Can anyone else verify?
Spotify
Is Spotify working for anyone? I get an instant reboot when I open it. Tried clearing data, and uninstalling/reinstalling.
Also, seems that once it gets done rebooting, my SIM is unrecognized and I can't get data unless I reboot manually.
removed - turns out that I don't know crap about logcats, and what I posted is worthless.
I'll try to educate myself some more and pull one through ADB
Here is an app I found on the dev preview to fix the battery percentage/charging not showing on the icon. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.kroegerama.android4batpercent
First off, the ROM is great overall so thanks for all the hard work. I have two issues, but neither is a big deal.
First, I can't encrypt the phone. When I try, it just reboots and sits on the boot up screen.
Second, Google Authenticator force closes. It will open, but as soon as I hit "Begin Setup" it just closes.
Is there any information on either of these issues?
I've been using this as my daily driver for two days now and there's only been one kernal crash!
Less apps FC than with the stock ROM... this build is amazing. Thank you!
Is there a way to change the order of the navigation keys?

Stupid question probably, but how hard would it be to get the IR blaster working? For people like me who have an LG TV, not having it working is killing me.
music
I cleaned flashed the latest build and neither Google play music or appollo music are working and also the phone only shows that it's charging if you have it plugged up while booting
How do you switch the back button and the recent apps button.
