Just in case anyone is interested, I pulled the APQ8064T/MDM9X15M modem via adb and put it into a flashable .zip
I have never seen this modem anywhere, so I thought I'd share it for those who might want it. If you are on AT&T, you don't probably need or want to flash it, but other networks in other parts of the world, including parts of North America (Mexico) and all of Central America, etc. do use it.
It's direclty from the Panama Stock 980h ROM.

I don't think so. I think what's much more likely is that the modem flashing ability on this device via CWM is non-functional, and anyone who thinks they've flashed a different modem that way actually hasn't successfully done so.
I have been wrestling with the RILJ issue related to my network, and as I understand it, in CM/AOSP, the modem string is just a placeholder. It's not a reflection of the actual modem, but in Stock ROMs, I don't think that's the case, because when I was on Stock AT&T, my modem behaved differently than when on Stock Panama.
The modem.img in your zip is larger then the one in my AT$t V10G zip also...

hmmm.....my F240K shows exactly the same baseband on stock i.e. APQ8064T/MDM9X15M....wonder if they are the same...
also if CWM is not flashing modem properly...how can you be sure that you have flashed it?
in CM/AOSP ROMs if modem string is placeholder is that because these ROMs don't flash a modem?
I noticed that the panama modem says AP08064T and the stock AT$T modem AP08064.
The "T" is he only difference in the displayed name. So I can see how it might be confusing lol.....

My suggestion would be to flash the hacked TWRP recovery by MadMack, it can be found in the CM10.2 Unofficial thread. I have used this recovery from day one and have had no problems whatsoever.
Link to Hacked TWRP by MadMack -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2250186&d=1378908893
It is my understanding, that this recovery is for CM or AOSP based ROM's. I think you must use the CWM or TWRP that are included in FreeGee to flash the Stock ROM variants.
I installed the hacked TWRP and my modem still doesn't change when I flash a different modem.

I have 240L and I really hated the call to korea and other korean network apps on my phone. I wanted to flash some basic stock rom like panama or telcell. but whenever i flashed stock i didn't get my modem to work so I used cwm to flash modem. I have used LOKI recovery and one another apk which is available for download on xda.
In panama and telcell i do get the signal but whenever I tried to make a call my phone restarts. I tried plenty of time then I got tired and flashed a custom rom from Lamhoang ... its working fine but I dont' like the HKFriend kernel its slow!
I still wish if I could get the stock original rom to work with some flashable modem....
one more thing I have 32 gb phone with SD card and in some stock roms i get the 32gb rom but i never got my sd card working.
Thank you this modem save my life.

That question remains unanswered, but the best evidence suggests that the modem is not flashed via recovery in either CWM or TWRP.
I have a chance to pick up another E980 tomorrow in the afternoon for a pretty good price in my area, and if all goes well, I'll be back to the LG OG Pro.

It's probably not the modem. CM/AOSP ROMs don't even flash modems. If you look, there are no basebands in the .zips. Not only that, but there's a growing body of evidence to suggest that modem/baseband flashing does not work at all via CWM/TWRP anyway.
Probably it's related to the RILJ.
The Open Source RILJ isn't as optimized as the stock one, and when you flashed back to stock, you got the stock RILJ. You baseband didn't change.

so would that mean I should restore my stock backup and then flash the rom I want to install? does flashing rom after rom complicate things at all? or is there a way to completely start from scratch kinda like restoring the stock backup
this is on the instructions to flash cm 10.2 "Make sure you install this MODEM. Without it, you'll have a phone that never deep sleeps. ever." is this true with all roms or just cm 10.2?
You can go back to complete stock using the lg flash tool. But idk if it'll help.

That's for AT&T customers, and I think why it works is that it hooks into the part of the custom RILJ that is optimized for AT&T.
I'm not on AT&T and I've never had a problem with deep sleep, with or without flashing modems, and either way, the modem never actually changes.
I keep a clean stock CWM backup both on my PC and my internal storage on the device.
I frequently bounce between ROMs, but I always restore to stock before doing so.
There's a lot of strange behavior with sd cards, directories, etc. when doing so, however, because the recovery creates a mnt/storage directory that cannot be seen by the PC when running custom ROMs at all. You have to do an adb pull to backup from the directory. It's a PITA.

I apologize. MK5 is a problematic bootloader. Do not try to Odin flash an older firmware over this. Again I apologize. What carrier are you with? If it is a Canadian carrier you can just flash the appropriate firmware from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2558311. These have the bootloader removed.

I don't think that is compatible with the i747m no?
Oh and also, let's say I want to get Liquid Smooth onto my phone but I currently have Quantum. Do I have to flash back to stock with Odin and then install the Liquid Smooth ROM? Or can I just go and wipe the system now in recovery without going to stock and then install Liquid Smooth in recovery?
Grievous is compatible with the 747m. Im on 747m Bell. You just need to flash a modem and kernel to get data and wifi to work. As far as liquid smooth, you do not need to go back to stock. Installing the ROM and then wiping should work. If you do find that you ever flash a ROM and have WiFi issues, kernel is likely culprit. No data is usually due to a modem. These seem to be more often with new ROMs and most development based off AT&T phones.
I like the touchwiz UI but i want the added enhancements of custom firmware, i know ill probably get flamed with people saying "search

So DN3 looks great but its a N7105 rom, which apparantly is fine, except that it insists that i flash one of 3 modem options, none of which are for my phone. also i heard that for my phone (t889v), once you flash a modem for the wrong device you cant get the correct modem back again.

I tried that by replacing the modem.bin files in the rom's folders for the 3 modem versions with the wind 4.3 modem.bin, it took 2 flashes before my phone would start working but still had a no network symbol instead of signal bars. i also tried flashing the wind 4.1.1 modem through recovery after but no luck. i can see that others on the t889 have had success with this rom, so i should be able to use it on a t889v, cant figure out what the problem is.

Its not data. Its just plain network signal. Instead of seeing bars at the top right ive got a no smoking sign without the cigarette in the middle. Thats what i meant by "no network" symbol. Im pretty sure that its a modem issue. Strange taht flashing a modem over it wonrt work, and other than that the rom works perfectly, but not being able to use my phone to make calls is kind of a dealbreaker.

Hello
I have SGH-M919. First, it had stock ROM, stock firmware, and it was SIM locked to T-Mobile, so I unlocked it with SRS server service (I live outside the US, so labs in my area didn't have the tools to unlock it, since it's only a US variant. Also, other methods of unlocking did not work for me, unfortunately).
In the unlocking process I had to flash custom modem file with Odin (it was required for SRS to work). After that, I flashed CWM and CM11 and everything worked fine except the GPS. It didn't work: no GPS satellites were found.
How can I resolve this issue? Thanks.

Just flash the stock modem since you said it was modified, unless its still needed.. However, many users have lost GPS after flashing aosp/cm.. The fix is simple. First make a nandroid backup, flash a touchwiz ROM, get a GPS lock, and then restore your nandroid.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I already tried flashing stock rom but GPS didn't work (it did work before the unlocking), so it has to be a modem problem. I couldn't find a stock modem file anywhere.
Currently I'm downloading another stock ROM, so I will be able to bring up lbstestmode which might fix my issue.
EDIT:
The new stock ROM works fine, and the GPS was able to find signal. So, I as ou suggested and recovered the Nandroid I made before through the recovery, but now I can't find GPS again. What can I do?

Still, the MK2 firmware just works better for me.
Also, if I can't flash the fixed NB4 firmware because the bootloader has Knox, how will it help me if I install the non-fixed version (which is included in the firmware)? I'd be stuck with the bad NB4! There's no way to install the fixed NB4 if I have bootloader with Knox, if I understand this whole thing correctly.
P.S I am not intending to argue or anything, I am just writing what happened to me. So, if someone has the same problem and he googles it he will be able to find some useful info that took me about 2 days to find (and your generous help in this thread, of course!

I noticed that I was getting bad cellular reception in an area that should have full mobile coverage. So I flashed the 4.4.2 fixed BN4 modem and the reception is way better (from one bar to 3 or 4), and the GPS is still working.
So, the BN4 modem did flash although I have bootloader with Knox (so it isn't supposed to work according the the modem thread)
P.S. I'm quite confused. Sorry for the noob question, but what's the difference between ROM and firmware? Is the firmware just a package which includes the ROM, bootloader and modem?
I have a rooted S4 running GPE 5.0.1. Since updating about 2 weeks ago it seems my signal strength isn't as strong as it was with my old ROM (CarbonRom 4.4.4) and I'm experiencing complete signal dropouts from time to time.
This got me thinking about my modem. Does it need to be updated? WiFi is working fine. My last official OTA was from T-Mobile about a year ago when they took the phone to 4.2.2. My baseband is M919UVUAMDL and poking around various XDA sees forum threads discussing "NK2" and "NK4" modems. Tmo's website lists M919UVUFNK2 as the latest baseband so my modem is out of date? I looked for a Tmo version of the just "NK2" modem and didn't find anything that wasn't a full ROM install. Just want to update my modem and keep Lollipop 5.0.X Is there a modem update I should flash?
Any thoughts and help would be appreciated.

At the moment I have not seen a flashable zip for nk2, Im on official cm12 android 5.0.2 and just updated my modem, here is what I did, I download the full firmware , extracted it with winrar, and used Odin 3.0.7 to flash the modem.bin and non-hlos.bin

Correct me if something has changed; but doesn't flashing an up to date non-hlos still randomly cause complete signal drop on devices that are not running the updated bootloader that came with 4.4?
Or rather; at least until securestorage is disabled in build.prop
Also, you will most likely have to flash them 2x with odin.
First time uncheck the auto restart box, and manually power cycle back into download mode.
Second time leave the auto restart checked.

So perhaps it would be better to odin the lastest official t-mobile ROM back onto the phone to update all the internals and the bootloader etc, then root again and re-install my preferred custom ROM of choice?

You should only flash NON-HLOS is you have the same bootloader as the NON-HLOS you are flashing

That would be the best option, but if you decide to only flash the modem, only flash modem.bin

I flashes the non-hlos.bin on a different bootloader with no issues at all, that's the only reason why I suggested it

Why does it matter which version of Odin we have to use? Specifically, why Odin 3.07?
Additionally, if modem.bin refers to the modem for the Samsung Galaxy S4 then what does non-hlos.bin refer to?

Well, I say use v3.0.7 because that is the version that worked for me, your results may vary, also some say that the non-hlos.bin refers to a separate modem for lte only, others say it refers to the WiFi driver, now, you don't have to flash it of you feel it has no benefit to you, I only did because this phone is the first one I've used that has the non-hlos.bin,, so I flashed it.

Since it is possible to flash the modem (via modem.bin) as well as flashing the lte modem/or WiFi driver (via non-hlos.bin) - then is it also possible to flash the bootloader itself on the Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919) if it is running Android 4.4.4 (M919UVUFNK2)? If so, how would someone accomplish doing this?

I'm pretty sure I can make a flashable zip for you, but in all honesty, I wouldn't recommend doing that, to reduce the risk of a brick and to keep money in your pocket, I would do a full backup and flash the latest stock update to update the bootloader

Let me ask this: if it's possible to make a flashable zip to flash the bootloader to a higher version (like the bootloader from Android 4.4.4-M919UVUFNK2) then is it also possible to make a flashable zip to flash the bootloader to a lower version (like the bootloader from Android 4.2.2.-M919UVUAMDL)?
I believe I'm in the same boat. I tried out AICP ROM 5.0.2 and my signal dropped out most of the entire time and I could rarely send or receive calls/texts when it showed that I had signal. I now have restored my backup of AICP 4.4.4 and so far it seems to be working correctly. But a flashable zip would be highly appreciated if someone could do it. I would try myself but internet is extremely slow and I'm afraid I would make a mistake and brick phones other than mine.

As I remember it from my GS3 days, once a Knox bootloader is implemented (I.e 4.3+) you can not downgrade to a non Knox bootloader (I.e 4.2-)

Ive also been doing some research on the flashable zip for bootloader, and it seems very difficult for me to make one
