Greetings,
Starting with the first release of the combined PAC/PA/AOKP rom I have been unable to install most AOSP roms for the T-mobile Note II. Currently I was able to get AOKP 4.3.1 installed but no Paranoid, Illusion, or PAC/PA/AOKP hybrid will run. They install fine but I get all FC's once it boots. I have updated recovery, tried multiple wiping including sys, cleared cache and dalvik just before first boot and after flash, tried fixing permissions which always fails, and I tried flashing without GAPPS as well... still no dice. Any ideas? On a side note, do any of you have a good S-pen app setup while running AOSP roms. I dloaded a handful of apps but nothing feels cohesive.
Thank you
EDIT: This issue just went away on it's own. For some reason I can install whatever now and I changed nothing.... crazy.

I have an Evo (003 Hardware) and while switching ROMs, at least twice now, I've had trouble restoring some apps using Titanium Backup. The weird thing is, I'ts only some apps, that are having the restore problem, while others seem to be restored, but without their settings saved. (Google Listen is an example of the former, while AdwEX is of the later.
I've verified the backups themselves, and they come back without errors, I've also tried flashing different ROMs like Myn's new Warm Z, MIUI, and Koni's Elite II. Those have no trouble restoring. Seems the problem is confined to the nightlies, as I'd installed RC1 before without issues.
Anybody have an idea what's wrong?
When re-flashing the roms, try a clean install, and also flashing the latest gapps. Not flashing them has been seen lately to cause a few apps not restoring, or some just missing completely. Best to do it in 2 recovery sessions, backup, flash rom, reboot, flash gapps, reboot.

I always do a fresh install. Wipe data, cache and Dalvik, plus flash Calkulin's Format All.
I haven't tried flashing ROM and gapps in different sessions, as that brought trouble pre-rc1, I'll try that now, though.
Well I practice the 2 recovery session as a standard, sometimes it works in 1 session, but when it doesn't the 2 session step bring me no problems; but let me know what happens.
turns out, that wasn't the problem. Two-session flashing didn't bring any issues, which I was glad to see (although it did switch the wallpaper, that's just weird). What did help was this post from the rc1 thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11722822&postcount=1603, where this exact problem is described, but I happened to miss it while searching somehow. anyways, it finally restored the apps, but not their data. I guess that's better than nothing, but again, just plain annoying.
Ah I see. Well now backup the apps and data and you should be set now.
I noticed something a few days ago while I was flashing the newest build of AOKP, and I was curious to see if anyone has noticed this or if it is just an issue for me. For as long as I can remember, every time I would flash a new ICS rom other than miui, all of the apps i had installed on my phone before the flash would automatically start downloading again upon the first boot on the new rom.
But as i said, upon flashing aokp build 40, remICS, paranoid android, and cm9, none of my apps from the play store have automatically restored. I tried all of them, being that there are different gapps packages for each rom, to see if it was a problem with the GAPPS package(s), but none of them worked. I also noticed that the GAPPS version had been changed for cm9 roms on the cyanogenmod wiki.
Can someone pleas explain to me what is going on, and what I need to do to get the feature of my apps restoring back. I tried searching but came up with nothing, any help is appreciated. Thanks, and have a good day!
thanks for the awesome help everybody, i knew i could count on you guys! (jkjk)
System settings > backup and reset. Back up Google account. Once that's done it should start restoring apps in between builds of anything as long as you do it on that rom. For example you back up on cm and flash aokp... it won't work. But if you flash another cm build it will start restoring again. Oh . And you don't need to wipe data between builds... its unnecessary unless directed otherwise.

[EDIT] I meant GAPPs. Damnit.
Hello,
I'm at a loss for what's happening and how to fix it. My GoogleFU is failing and nothing I try seems to work.
Basically, WiFi does not work for me in CM 10.1 RC2 and it's something to do with the GAAPs. Everything is initially fine on a fresh install [edit: I don't know if it matters, but when I flash the latest milestone of AOKP WiFi never works. At the initial set up it connects but fails to authenticate over and over] and it's all going swimmingly at first. When I open the Playstore in these first few moments, it's the last version. Eventually the Playstore updates itself and that's when WiFi stops working. Nothing can connect to anything. In the Playstore I just get a 'failed to connect' message and a 'retry' button that doesn't work. The browser doesn't pull anything up and I can't get any sort of connection until I turn WiFi off and go to data.
I'm really at a loss. If it helps, I'm on the Sasktel version, but it's still the I747 [i747m in the stock ROM] which is the same as Bell/AT&T, right? So that shouldn't matter. I'm flashing the 20130301 GAAPs and even tried the 4.1.2 ones (they didn't work at all). I'm using CWMR 6.0.1.2. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. I don't know why I'm having so much trouble with ROMs on my S3 when it was so much easier to root than my old One V (which is still running CM 10 like a champ with 0 errors - I gave that phone to my sister).
Sorry for the long post, but this has been melting my brain.
so what all are you wiping before these flashes? i would recommend data, cache, dalvik, format /system, format /data when changing ROMs and especially when changing android versions (4.1 to 4.2, etc). If you have a micro sd card, place your ROM, gapps and a backup on there and go through the above wipe procedures.
you should also consider updating your recovery. 6.0.3.1 is the latest. you can flash this in recovery, go to Advanced and reboot recovery for this to take effect.
So I've decided to start playing around with custom ROMs. I'm still pretty new to Android so maybe this is going to be stupidly simple.
Earlier today I flashed PACman Rom. Downloaded directly from the thread. I wasn't super happy with how slow it ran and a friend suggested it might be a nightly. I noticed in settings it said the release was from 09/09 so I thought he might be right. I decided to wipe it and install the most recent stable version of PAC man.
Seemed to flash just fine, but the startup was a bit odd. It didn't go through the standard stuff like syncing your google account, setting up wifi, etc. Jumped right to the home screen. At first that didn't seem like an issue. I can do that all manually. But then it flashed on screen saying AOSP keyboard couldn't launch. Obviously without being able to type at all or even open the keyboard, I can't do a whole lot to get it set up.
Tried a couple times to flash that ROM and same thing every time. Restored from my nandroid and everything worked perfectly. Decided to try CyanogenMod and got 10.2 stable release with gapps. Wiped and flashed. Same thing. Straight to the home screen, no keyboard. Every other gapp is there.
Any ideas on what I can do differently? Or what I might be doing wrong, or some way I can get this to work?
Did you flash gapps with pacman ROM?

Yes I did. And I actually just figured out what it was. I was using 4.3 gapps with 4.2.2 ROMS
Whenever I flash Touchwiz ROMs I get force closes left and right when I first boot the phone up. I have no idea what's wrong. AOSP ROMs seem to work fine.
Sounds like you're not fully wiping, or you've got a bad download. Check md5s on any ROM you download, and ALWAYS do a factory reset in recovery (2 or 3 won't hurt either) and manually wipe System, Data, Dalvik, and Cache before flashing a new ROM. Don't try restoring any backed up system data either...
I have encountered the same problem, when flashing my latest DomPop builds. It just takes doing everything @Morningstar said, multiple times, and if you get force closes, reboot, try again. It may take a few times.
Also, the newest DomPop v0.5 will let you choose in your initial setup if you want a TouchWiz launcher or another one of like 10.. Nova Launcher, Google, etc. It is pretty dope ?
