So I've decided to start playing around with custom ROMs. I'm still pretty new to Android so maybe this is going to be stupidly simple.
Earlier today I flashed PACman Rom. Downloaded directly from the thread. I wasn't super happy with how slow it ran and a friend suggested it might be a nightly. I noticed in settings it said the release was from 09/09 so I thought he might be right. I decided to wipe it and install the most recent stable version of PAC man.
Seemed to flash just fine, but the startup was a bit odd. It didn't go through the standard stuff like syncing your google account, setting up wifi, etc. Jumped right to the home screen. At first that didn't seem like an issue. I can do that all manually. But then it flashed on screen saying AOSP keyboard couldn't launch. Obviously without being able to type at all or even open the keyboard, I can't do a whole lot to get it set up.
Tried a couple times to flash that ROM and same thing every time. Restored from my nandroid and everything worked perfectly. Decided to try CyanogenMod and got 10.2 stable release with gapps. Wiped and flashed. Same thing. Straight to the home screen, no keyboard. Every other gapp is there.
Any ideas on what I can do differently? Or what I might be doing wrong, or some way I can get this to work?
Did you flash gapps with pacman ROM?

Yes I did. And I actually just figured out what it was. I was using 4.3 gapps with 4.2.2 ROMS

Okay.
So it seems that any program I install on the past few nightlys, even before the final. Except the programs installed by default on com and for some reason setcpu. When ever you reboot the phone the widgets will say cannot load and it will be gone from the list. You gotta reinstall the program for it to work.
I am flashing the new nightly and 8.1 cm snap. Ill let you know if there ia any changes.but probably not since im not gonna wipe. And there has been quite a few wipes. And there was one before the final.
Still the same problem after flashing the new nightly.
Anyone have any suggestions?
I noticed something a few days ago while I was flashing the newest build of AOKP, and I was curious to see if anyone has noticed this or if it is just an issue for me. For as long as I can remember, every time I would flash a new ICS rom other than miui, all of the apps i had installed on my phone before the flash would automatically start downloading again upon the first boot on the new rom.
But as i said, upon flashing aokp build 40, remICS, paranoid android, and cm9, none of my apps from the play store have automatically restored. I tried all of them, being that there are different gapps packages for each rom, to see if it was a problem with the GAPPS package(s), but none of them worked. I also noticed that the GAPPS version had been changed for cm9 roms on the cyanogenmod wiki.
Can someone pleas explain to me what is going on, and what I need to do to get the feature of my apps restoring back. I tried searching but came up with nothing, any help is appreciated. Thanks, and have a good day!
thanks for the awesome help everybody, i knew i could count on you guys! (jkjk)
System settings > backup and reset. Back up Google account. Once that's done it should start restoring apps in between builds of anything as long as you do it on that rom. For example you back up on cm and flash aokp... it won't work. But if you flash another cm build it will start restoring again. Oh . And you don't need to wipe data between builds... its unnecessary unless directed otherwise.

Hi,
I've flashed PA many times before on my Nexus 4, and I was using PA 3.99 before I decided to try using CM11 (cause kitkat). Well, CM11 worked fine, but I wanted to go back to PA, however, when I tried flashing the rom, it took much longer than usual, and then when my phone finally booted up, neither the sound nor the wifi would work. I first noticed this when the phone was setting up, as the second thing a new android phone asks you to do is to turn on your wifi. My phone just said "turing on wifi" for a good five minutes until I skipped it. Once I finally finished setting the phone up, I tried turing up the sound but it wouldn't work. Of course, I can't really use my phone if the sound won't work at all, so I decided to flash CM11 again, and then everything was working properly. Since then I've tried PA and CM again, AOKP, and PAC rom, but CM is the only one that worked for my phone. The sound and wifi didn't work on any of the other three roms. If anybody could help, that'd be great!! Otherwise I'll have to stick to CM11 even though I'd like to go back to PA.

For anyone with a similar issue: My problem was that I was running CM11, which uses android 4.4, so it seemed that the issue was caused by flashing to a rom that used an earlier version of android. I solved the problem by unrooting my phone and reverting back to 4.2. Then I rooted the device again and flashed PA 3.99, then everything was fine.

Thank you !!!
it's Work !
This might be more of a google problem, but I installed the Golden Eye TW 4.4.2 rom for T9505 and everything worked fine, but I decided to go back to a nandroid of liquid smooth 4.4.2. Everything worked fine for that too, but then I decided to go back to a nandroid of Hyperdrive. That's when it gave me problems logging into my google account. Every time it gives me a "sign-in error for ****@gmail.com. I have two step verification which I've had for a while and am well accustomed to, but it doesn't even get that far to send me my code. No gmail, no contacts, no play store. I wiped everything and did a fresh install of Hyperdrive. Still no google. Wiped again and did fresh install of Wicked v10. Still no google.
Back on liquid smooth backup and everything is fine. What gives?
I know my accounts are good, because I can login just fine on liquid smooth and on my tablet onto which I was flashing a new rom at the same time.
setup:
M919 tmobile
TWRP
MK2

Thanks, but I finally found if I turned off the 2 step verification, I could log in. Then turn it back on. Seems like Google conflicts with tw somehow since it happens on all tw roms I've tried, but only tw roms.
I wonder if something got borked when I installed a tw 4.4.2 Rom for t9505.

So I have CM12 installed, but when I go to flash the latest nightlys I keep getting System UI crashing. When I acknowledge it, the error will not go away. I have HBOOT 3.18 and radio 1.19 with TWRP 2.8.4.0. I've wiped everything I can think of save the internal and external SDCARDs. What am I doing wrong to not be able to flash the latest nightlys? Ive tried flashing on top of my current CM12, which was upgraded from CM11, and wiping clean. When I wiped clean everything was working great till the phone went to sleep. When I woke it up, same issues.
Yeah, I was having that issue as well. CM12 just isn't stable right now, at least for me. Everything lagged after having the phone on for about a half hour, took 4-5 seconds to do anything after selecting it... it was just a mess. Went back to stock.
Everything runs like a champ, I just cant flash the latest version. It seems that I'm the only one having this issue, or no one cares to help anyone anymore.

Okay, I have cleared off a bunch of crap off my phone and am willing to give CM12 a try just to see if you have the issue. Which CM12 version are you referring to?
Thanks for the help. Right now Im running version 12-20150128-NIGHTLY-m8. When I try to update to any of the latest versions Im getting the System UI crashes. It doesnt matter how many times I acknowledge it, it wont go away.
