hey i just had weird thing
everything was cool i had good 3 hours screen time from 100% to 50% as use to be
but when i start mess with the camera a bit its crashed and shutdown and i turn it on and it crashed again for few more time and the battery went down to 13% after warming a bit
any idea what it could be?
maybe battery leak ? or hardware problem ?
the camera is not so good i cant get good picture
also the battery is going from 52% to 53% suddenly while phone is on not charging ofc
edit:
now the battery percent 25% from 13%
now the phone keeping shutdown if i unplug the charger
even charging to full while its off and also turn on\
is the battery defect ?
I'm also checking if its really charging with current widget app
and it does
it can show 30% u unplug the charge is went down to 3% or it wont boot cos no enuf power to start
Try wiping off the pins on the battery and phone.

thx i tried another charger it seems it was the problem
after flashing the 10g its works better but now at the morning the shutdown and restart came back
i notice the call antenna stopped working
if continue webbing or start quadrant its shutdown
i check the CPU temp' around 50c its restart or shutdown
is your temp is higher then this ? maybe i should disable thermal option ?
Please help i need your advice
edit:
when its connect to charger its not rebooting or shutdown even its over 62c
so the battery is not good ?
hi, i was also facing same issue.. try this.. if your phone is rooted then try custom kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2363330
then download an application from Playstore (CPU Box for Quad core), & try disabling 2 or 3 cores. currently i am working on single core at 1.7ghz.. no hang no reboot, no heat issue.. & also i am getting good standby time more than 24 hours & talk time of 6+ hours...
did u still got the reboot while charging? mine seems not
also the temp goes to 62c and nothing still working the signal didn't drop
its must be battery problem..... i think
thank you will try after i will be sure of it.

got the same problem
mostly battery gonna try replace with new
Related
Here is the problem :-
1. Full charged batttery (NEW) drain out within 2 hrs
2. Exec in standby mode, got heat (warm)
3. While charging, i put it on standby mode, few second later it wake up it self.
4. while open the cover, usually have to press the power button it's only wakeup, but this time its on every moment..
Tried solution :-
Problems occured while using gprs for internet, it hang so soft reset it... after soft reset everything is fine, but the battery drain out so fast... and the device is WARM...
Flashed back to original rom (o2) - still the same
Tried flashed to WM6 - still the same problem
i got 2 x batteries... the problem still the same (not the battery problem)
anyone can help out with this?
thank you so much
try using 2А battery charger .. I have had similar problems that I decided to convert the old computer power supply for charging purposes
I was going to say your battert's old and dead, but since you said it was independent from the battery, now I think the drain and the heating might be explained by a short circuit somewhere in the non-vital parts of the device, or a malfunction of the power control circuit, causing constant drain and heating up the battery.
As for the device beng constantly on, have you checked the power settings? If those are all right, they can stil be attributed to the faulty power controller...
I suggest you take it to a repair shop(since your ROM-flashing probably voided the warranty, so the provider will just turn you away...), they might be able to do something with it.
I suggest you check back later to see if someone more knowledgeable than me offered confirmation or another opinion...
Good Luck!
theres only one thing i can think of: Turn off your wifi when you dont use it Xp Thats the only reason i can think of when your device gets warm and the battery quickly drained ; D

I don't think so...the wifi doesn't use nearly enough power to heat up the device or drain the battery that quickly. Even with all wireless options enabled, but screen brightness set to minimum, the battery lasts approximately one and a half hours for me.
I think the quick drain and heating is caused by either a non-critical short-circuit or a faulty power controller circuit...
maybe you gor ripped off. what kind of battery did you buy?
The battery that im bought recently
same as the old one.
PU16A Li-ion Polymer Battery 1620mAh
everything i tried to save the power
everything off except the phone, the backlight set to the lowest.
im charge it with my charger instead of USB port from computer
ok so i got a problem with my battery
my battery on my phone just going out to fast
for example today
i connected it so it could reload and then
when i disconnected it was 100%
then after 2 hours only that i havnt use the phone i mean havnt touched it even once
i look again on battery life and here it says 36%
and it keep going every day
can some1 tell me why it keep happening???
WOW! That's a major drain in 2hours.
My 2 cents are on a defective battery - since the phone was on standby.
You can try some tutorials on adjusting the power saving settings (like screen brithgness what to turn off and not etc.)
Also you might try caibrate the battery.
there is a thing like u charge it to 100% ,unplug from the charger and turn the phone off ,then plug in again and charge to 100% again... there is a thread about it on this forum, do a lil search it might help u
Dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to battery and find partial wake usage, here the apps are listed that prevent the phone form sleeping and thus causing battery drain. Also check the % under Settings-about phone- battery usage to see what app or process consumed the most battery.
Does it get very hot? I mean - if the battery really contains 1500mAh (which I doubt in this case) and drains completely in 3 hours, that's 500mAh, so 3.5V*0,5A=1,75W continuesly.
You really should notice that while it's in your pocket...
no the phone isnt getting hot
i mean it can sit on my pocket for like 2-3 hours and then it suddenly 3x %
without even touching it
Try these steps:
1. Please connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green, indicating the device is fully charged.
2. Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off.
3. Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green.
4. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on. Once the phone is powered completely on, power it off again and reconnect it to the charger until the notification LED is green.
5. Disconnect the phone, power it on (OPTIONAL: Enter Recovery at this point and Wipe Battery Stats (from Advanced menu), and use it. You need to use this sequence only once.
If that does not solve it you have a defective batterie.
ok i will try it
but can u tell me what the point???
i mean what does it do??

The point of that, is to make the battery life longer. And actually it works. I tried when i bought my phone an the increase was significant!
Edit: Just saw in another thread that some newer custom ROMs has some things messed up, and they eat the battery more than normal when the screen is off. You might take a look at it.
yea i did all the steps and its not working
the battery still going down rapidly
so i should buy new one??
Yeah.
BTW, are you on a stock rom?
srry
no idea what stock rom means
but im on miui rom
Hello,
My desire, after:
an inability to restore nandroid backup
a possible corrupted sd card
a usb brick and inability to mount some nand partitions
and finally succeeding in fixing it, now using/running:
2.29.405.5 stock rooted rom
a new sd card (samsung 16GB class 6)
clockworkmod 2.5.0.7
s-off
seems that has battery issues. When it reaches below 30%, it drains a lot faster. In example few minutes ago, the battery was below 30% level and after sending a couple of sms messages the phone, without the "Connect the charger" indication shut down. Not even the battery icon was red.
What should I do?
After flashing the above ROM I ran an app called battery calibration (could this be the culprit?).
I haven't experienced such problems before the whole mess mentioned above.
Thank you for your time.
Well, it seems to me like a "classic" battery meter calibration issue.
TVTV said:
In order to calibrate the battery meter - FYI the battery itself cannot be calibrated, as Li-Ion batteries have a very low memory compared to old Ni-Cd etc. batteries - you have to go through the following procedure:
1) charge the battery to 100%;
2) let the battery discharge until the phone shuts itself down;
3) plug the wall charger into the phone, boot the phone up then charge the battery to 100% without interruptions.
If the above procedure does not yield the expected results, you can try fully charging the phone (LED showing green) with it completely turned off (after completely draining it). Again, the charging procedure should not be interrupted.
Source: personal experience - had to do this twice after installing new ROMs, as the phone was shutting down at ~14% (working like a charm now).
Regarding the matter of battery wear because of complete discharges, Li-Ion batteries do indeed have a lower cycle count than old-school batteries, but the standard charge/discharge number a Li-Ion battery can take is ~350, so you can't damage the battery pack by doing a full cycle per month (required to keep the battery meter accurate).
Good luck!

Did this work you mate? I have the same issue with my year old batter now... the phone shuts down @ 40% without any warning... and when I charge it, it starts from 0% and as soon as it hits the 58% mark, it jumps to 100% by itself... and i cant seem to figure out what the hell could I do to fix it... I tried calibrating the battery using the awesome method described here http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/11823-battery-calibration-thread 3 times and nothing changed...
bump bump.. i really need help on this guys... :/

Weird that after calibration you still get that kind of issues, does this only happen on your current ROM? I have the latest CM in my desire and everything works just fine... Maybe try another ROM if calibration doesn't work to see if it's a hardware or software issue
i actually had issues with MIUI first.. the phone randomly shut down by itself but when i turned it back on, it was perfect... then i switched back to Oxygen and while everything was fine, suddenly one day the phone died at 40% :S and from that day on the phone charges to 58% and then instantly jumps to 100%... and as soon as it gets to 40% it shuts down itself... i guess i need a new battery but i wanted to see wether i can fix this one somehow so i can use it till the new one arrives...

phone turning off at 20% is fine mate because thats the battery guards against any damage
most of the phones ( smart phones) switch off at 20% as going lower can damage the System .
It shouldnt normally..It's supposed to work fine upto 5%
Have a look at this, it worked for me (but you need a compatible kernel, most AOSP are so)

Ok so first time i had problems like this was when my battery was like <30% and i take a photo with flash it turns off with no warning instant shutdown , then i had battery fluctuation if battery was like 8% when i offline charge like for 5minutes when i turned it on was 34 - 50 % . Now my phone wont go pass lg boot logo or it passes and get to homescreen it will insta shutdown , this happens even with 100% battery .Im on stock 4.4.2 v20a eu . Can someone help please ? i suspect the battery but i wan to know if someone else had problems like this before
I had pretty much the same situation. Battery was consumed quickly. At 30% it turned off. Charging to 45%'was really quick.
I changed the battery to a new original one, and now the phone is working perfectly.
I had same issue with my phone. i thought i might be due to any software issue but it was battery issue. please change your phone battery and it will be back online.
Hello Guys like me many of you have same problem with battery life, since i updete to MM my Battery start to droping very fast and suddenly die sometimes at 20% sometimes at 30% sometimes at lower %.
Something doing this we have lost all settings and after we boot the device again have to set up everything from scratch.
At the begining i was thinking my battery is DEAD and need a replacemant but in the past few months when i read hundred of Threads regarding this issue i realize it is not possible often after MM Update or flashed a MM ported ROM from HTC 10 this to heppans to so many users on the same time.
Ive tryed almost everything from fully Discharge to cleaning Caches Art etc and re flashing few times clean a new ROM nothing helps at all even some software for calibration make the things worse.
In this thread i found a solution given my HTC themself : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/phone-loses-settings-apps-battery-dies-t3375980
And i did try it several times without Luck
I did keep reading and found out that really Holding Volume UP + Volume Down and Power Button did clean the Battery Cache but i was doing it all the time wrong.
What i did try is this:
Turn off the Phone lets says you have 40 50 % battery left.
Wait for a minute or two, then Press and Hold Volume UP + Volume Down and Power button for at least 6 Restarts, release the buttons when your device swtich ON after this 6 restarts and see your Battery %, usually what gona heppand there will be diference in the reading. ( When doing this DO NOT PLUG YOUR DEVICE FOR REACHARGE)
in my case doing that before the operation i had about 46% after that i have 55% this is the 1st thing i spot on.
After i did this, start using my device with heavy use and i saw the battery behave normal and the droping its not so fast like before in order to chek do i have any more wrong readings i decide to prepare the test again.
Switched of the Phone at 40% after all the restars and turned it on i had 39%
so i think this was normal and the battery do not have anymore any wrong reading %.
Start to use hard the device watching videos listen music 1st think i notice is the % are droping really slow not like before.
At exactly 15% Battery left i recive a Warning like it should be!!! (i didn`t recive any warnings like this in the past few months) then i keep using it hard and waited the battery to drop even more to see whats gonna heppand.
Well at 5% all was perfectly fine NO restarting at all.
At 2% i put my device for reacharge and after the full recharge to 100% now seems the battery to HOLD really Good 24 hours latter with intensive use of the device the % are droping really slow like it should be.
Now its seems that all is fine.
Try this and report back.
Its important DO NOT PLUG THE DEVICE when you doing this! Its make SENSE even if from HTC says PLug it ON (DO NOT) because when you cleaning the Battery Caches you want it CLEAN not on the same time that power from the charger to reach your battery this can lead to wrong INFO again so its really make sense you have to do it without to Plug in order to see the real % you had.
Later on i will make some screen shoots to show you how the battery Hold after this procedure.
its seems now i lose 2% per 1 hour in standbay witch is PERFECT for old device.
I've also had this issue. Didn't know about the volume button trick. Well now its too late and the battery is totally shot I think and won't even turn on or charge. Don't know what to do about getting all.my unsaved data off the phone. Was wondering if it would be possible to temporarily hook up a battery from my old m7 just to get the data off my m8. Anyone have any input on this? Is it possible to just temporarily connect an m7 battery to an m8?
Good lord..
I have the same issues for over a year now, so I had to test it out.
Before the restarts my battery had 52%, now it has 13% (battery saving mode is enabled, something i havent seen for years...).
I hope this problem will be fixed now.
I will give an update after a couple of days to see if it actually worked.
I'm running lineage os 15.1 oreo with sense.
Thanks anyway!
I held it for 6 restarts but it didn't turn on automatically. I had to let go of the buttons. Battery dropped from 69% to 48%.
Held it for 6 or 8 restarts and dropped from 40% to 18%, hope it will make a change. Thanks for the guide!
Update to my previous post: Battery lasts a longer, but dies at 22% percent, guess its the problem in the battery and cant be fixed via software
Did you guys get successful preventing sudden phone-off?
I recently bought this device. It was already updated to marshmallow. I did the volume button thing, at first htc's way. Then I saw this way and tried that. In the very next boot, everything is okay, battery drain till last drop. But in subsequent boots, problem reappeared . I tried wiping cache partition with twrp. But the problem comes again. Did you guys get it solved 100% in one time? Did I miss something? Or is it like me everywhere ?
Why do it at 40-50%?
