Well, what he says in the op is all true, the whole wipe battery stats is really a placebo effect sine it wipes it every time you charge fully. A lot of misreadings are simply the result of a crap/dying/deffective battery. But wiping that stats is not dangerous, he is saying having root for no real reason is dangerous and that wiping battery stats is pointless

Hello guys...I am new to this community as i recently registered to XDA...but i know maybe a bit about our phone Galaxy W GT-i8150....That could prove useful to Starters......
Now...mostly Users have problems with battery when they flash new ROMS....the reason is....their battery stats...for example if a person flashed a new ROM with 60% of battery....the phone will detect 60% as 100% and battery will drain quickly.....but You guys don't need to worry as i have found some ways to rectify this problem....Battery Callibration...yes u need to callibrate your battery in order to get long lasting batteries....there are some ways of doing it...most easy is through an app found in play store....Battery Callibration by NĂ©Ma...you just need to charge ur phone at 100%....and go to app and click 'Callibrate' (with charger plugged on!) ...and this will reset ur battery stats....it is recommended (not necessary) to drain out all the battery after callibration and Charge ur phone from 0% to 100% without a gap....
As i am a newbie...so i cannot post outside links...however if anyone needs to get more of it...he/she can PM me at any time and i ll try my best to help...!
I hope this post would prove useful to all of you.....! :good:
I have that app. Never really used it lol what happens if I calibrated it like a 50 wouldn't that mess it up?? So technically it is necessary.. idk lol I'm def no noob but I don't quite understand this app. Batt life seems the same after I calibrate battery (last time I tried)
Anymore info!!?!?!?!

You shouldn't uncharge your battery to 0%.
For calibrate your battery just charge it to 100%, shut down your phone, let it charge to 100% again, go to CWM, advanced, wipe battery stats, before wipe unplug USB cable.
I realize that..I'm just confused about this battery calibration. Doesn't make a difference for me..and yes I agree I never fully discharge me phone. Bad idea

I don't know about the ROMs the op flashes, but if my battery is at 50% when I flash a new ROM it doesn't go to 100% more like between 47-50%.
Besides the fact that battery calibration has been explained away as a myth, I can also state "calibrating" battery has never increased my battery life.

Do you mean that using all of your battery (till 0% when the phone automatically turns off) is a bad idea?
Why?
Thanks

Yes, it's bad idea, because you have a Lithium-ion battery which as no memory effect.
Read this
Actually this app wipes your battery stats and makes a fresh copy of them...

Well i wrote that for those users who have flashed stock rom and dont have or want CWM recovery...moreover it's just recommended...
And me and other users have experienced that the more roms we flash...the more battery life decreases....anyway if there is a better way...please do let me know...

After wiping battery stats, my phone only comes up with 0% of battery... is there any fix? :'(
Wiping battery stats is completely useless, despite what other people may say. The batterystats.bin file is created new every time you charge (if i remember correct). Try letting it sit for a while, plug off the charger, reboot, something like that. It should come back itself.

Is wiping battery stats still does more harm than good?
And is there no need to do battery calibration by charging all the way and wiping stats any more with these new phones/batteries?

I read somewhere that an actually Google Developer stated that Wiping Battery Stats does not in any way improve your Battery Life. I will try to find the source for that. As for calibration, if I am not mistaken, with the latest technology for phone batteries this is no longer necessary, but is still traditional practice for many people.

Yeah I read same thing. It stated that wiping battery stats damages battery life because stats keep track of how many charges battery has left and other things.
So wipe battery stats is only use full if I'm switching batteries?

Still don't wipe. There is no reason and it will automatically calibrate the battery if needed within a cycle or 2.

Because at one point it was believe you had to do that in order to calibrate your battery. Plus when you flash a ROM you can wipe just to see what you get on the first day

I used to wipe battery stats every time I tried a new ROM on my Epic, which for a while was weekly. I know that it quickly became a problem: the battery would never fully charge, the reported information was off by a wide margin (like saying I had 50% left but then two minutes later it shut off due to no battery left), etc. Since then I've never wiped battery stats just for fear of that happening again.
Maybe it would do no harm on a SIII... maybe I just had a bad device or battery or something back then... basically, I don't know for sure if wiping those stats was ever a real problem... but, I know I just won't do it now unless I know to a CERTAINTY it's something I NEED to do, just to be safe.
You know when you go settings battery and get that graph? Then you how that graph resets after every cycle? Every time the graph resets the battery stats are wiped
Edit: so what the guy posted above me doesn't make sense because android does it after every cycle

Had same problem on my Epic Touch.Phone would have 50 percent left and after reboot only 10.But I only wiped stats once of twice so I don't think it has anything to do with that.

Are you sure they're wiped every time? Are you sure there maybe isn't some cumulative stats that don't get wiped? Are you sure there isn't maybe some subset of the stats that get wiped while the rest don't (or vice-versa)?
I ask because I can't say I'm sure of that. I DO know that at least with the Epic what you describe CANNOT have been the case, otherwise any battery stat kinds of issues would have went away with a simple reboot and that just wasn't the case (and I know I was not alone in this by far). While I can completely believe that some aspect of battery stats get wiped with a reboot I have a hard time believing it's a simple as EVERYTHING getting wiped and that's that... unless this is something new with the GSIII or even ICS I suppose.

to quote a google engineer
This file [batterystats.bin] is used to maintain, across reboots, low-level data about the kinds of operations the device and your apps are doing between battery changes. That is, it is solely used to compute the blame for battery usage shown in the "Battery Use" UI in settings. That is, it has deeply significant things like "app X held a wake lock for 2 minutes" and "the screen was on at 60% brightness for 10 minutes."
It has no impact on the current battery level shown to you. It has no impact on your battery life.

Well, good news. You don't have to anymore.
I was reading in a thread and one of the developers mentioned that clearing this in recovery doesnt do what you think it does. So, out of curiosity, I have a couple of questions. What exactly does it do? How should we use this feature?
TIA
I don't ever use it. It doesn't matter anymore as it doesn't really do anything. You can do the same thing charging your phone to full.

You mean wiping battery stats?
I mean it doesn't really do anything at all.. Doesn't help battery life.. And doesn't calibrate the battery (I've heard that a lot)
-TeaM VeNuM Like A Boss
i think all it does is clear out the log that your battery use goes into.. not sure tho lol. either way everytime i do it on a full charge my battery percent drops drastically

Ive noticed a big discrepency between battery stats in recovery to whats in normal use, probably down to me flashing roms.
Can i just go into 4EXT and wipe the battery stats to recalibrate ? or is there a best way to do this ?

Download battery calibration tool from play store, charge battery to 100% then let it discharge to 0% without plugging in between. Best way I've found yet
