Email from Spigen, ref: Slim Armor Case/Faulty Power Button - Nexus 5 Accessories

For those who have or may be looking to purchase the Spigen Slim Armor Case, mine came with a faulty power button which caused my N5 to do nothing but reboot. Spigeon response, then my original email...
(Please disregard my ramblings about the Hybrid case, its great and on my N5 right now)

Dear Matthew,
Thank you so much for your interest our Spigen Nexus 5 Slim Armor Case.
We are very sorry to hear that you are having this issue with the power button. We noticed that some of the Slim Armor cases were not as perfect as they should have been. However, we will be sending you a brand new TPU to solve that issue! In addition, we want to include one of our Premium Nexus 5 Screen Protector with your replacement.
We thank you for your patience and understanding!
Your replacement will be shipping out within the next few days after it has been tested for quality assurance.
If you have any other questions, please email us.
Have a wonderful day!
Best Regards,
Diana

Placed my order with Amazon (order ID 114-3434852-3204213) about a week ago and received the Ultra Hybrid and Slim Armor cases for my new Nexus 5 just moments ago. Upon removing the Ultra Hybrid from the packaging, I discovered that the clear plastic back already has three scratches on the inside of the case, two running about half the length, where the third runs almost the entire length of the plastic back panel. The Slim Armor also is faulty - the Nexus 5 does nothing but reboot with it on. By looking at the case, it seems that the power button is too tight and causing constant reboots (http://youtu.be/TgOzTCT9XQw).
EDIT: After reading more about your cases, I removed the plastic covers on the Ultra Hybrid. Recommend placing a piece of tape or info that it is there. As for the Slim Armor, it appears this is a known issue with the power button that customers are waiting on for a fix.
Please advise how to proceed

I was having the same issue and thought it was the way I installed it. Will be emailing them...

I contacted them via amazon without any reply...

I stick to emailing through Amazon so I have proof. I'm filing a complaint with Amazon. These people are ridiculous and the product is hit or miss.

I had to email them a couple of times and have only received what looks like an automated reply. At least it includes a case # so I know it's in the system.
My slim armor was very snug, TOOO snug - but over the last few days it seems to have someone become fairly usable. The power button isnt as sensitive but im curious to know if the newer cases are even better.

By the way, welcome to XDA. I see this was important enough to you to join the forums. Spigen is driving me crazy.

I just received my Slim Armor yesterday, my power button was fine but the back was raised at the bottom where the colored part hit the gray rubbery part. It seemed warped or something. Also I thought the case felt very strange with the odd sharp angles on the sides and back. I am returning mine.

It took a while, but the only reply I received was one with my tracking numbers. Which I had already told them I had.
I think that their CSR might be more than slightly retarded.

Mine had the same power button issue. Spigen sent me the same email and i've been waiting since last week for it to ship out. Since i was getting a new tpu i figured i should see if i could fix the issue on mine and it actually was a pretty easy fix. I've got one of those horribly useless pedipaws (http://www.amazon.com/PediPaws-3269-6-Pet-Nail-Trimmer/dp/B001FMHZSC) devices that scares the crap out of my dogs. I pulled the gaurd off and used it to file down the piece of plastic/rubber on the inside that actually contacts the power button. I didnt have to remove much material at all. Doing that completely fixed the issue. It responds exactly like the volume buttons, so there's a satisfying click when pressed.

That's a good idea, I might do try that mod. If my case ever gets shipped.

Back in college I worked in CS, so I want to sympathize with them but on the other hands when I'm paying for a product and it's defective and I've reached out a few times, then its on the company to get back to me - regardless of the influx of correspondences. They need to refocus resources (in this case, staff) to handle these emails asap. I hope I'm not the only one who feels that way

I was focused on their CS. But it seems the person who made the molds is probably also mildly retarded. And their QC department needs to get fired.
At this point, they could always hire a temp with decent references to email us. And hire some other temps to pack the boxes. They need to make this right and I don't want a lousy free screen protector or wasting my time.

I received my slim armor case last sat, the power button wont work so I filed a refund request through amazon uk straight away. I also ordered Ultra Hybrid version soon after.
they emailed back asked if I'd like to have the TPU part replaced or simply a refund. I replied with a refund confirmation since I've ordered the Ultra Hybrid one. they then refunded me on monday without asking for returns.:good:

I wish I lived in the UK.
Maybe they just hate America.

5 days and no reply from them on either e-mail address. I called their HQ today and they said they have no phone lines for customer support so I would just have to wait until I receive an e-mail back. Just going to return it.

Their contact page on their website.

I just received my Ultra Hybrid case today and the power/volume buttons are way too sensitive. It just takes a light tap to activate them. I engaged my power button so many times just by holding the phone in my hand with the case on. I waited almost two weeks to receive it and what a disappointment this is.

I emailed them this past Friday about my faulty Slim Armor, and have yet to receive a response back. I contacted them via amazon and the contact on their website.

I got my replacement TPU, here is a comparison: Old one vs. new one.
As you can see, they did not cut the button from the rest of the case on one side which makes it hard to press. I might cut it myself as the lip inside the button has been shortened and so it should not be a problem anymore.

Ordered one myself 2 days ago... I hope it's not faulty like any ones...

My TPU Fusion Review

So I ended up wanting a MT4G case and came across this site through a friend who bought a similar case from ambitronic.com.
Wondering whether to get the TPU Fusion Case? Look no further!
Shipping:
The product came relatively fast. When I got my final order, all they allowed was first class shipping, but it was only about $3. I ordered my product on Saturday, was notified that it shipped out on Sunday, and it came on Tuesday afternoon.
The website said that it was "delivered" on Monday when I checked, but when I went to check the UPS tracking number it just said sorted. So if you're wondering why the case hasn't come, check the UPS site and be patient, it's worth it!
Pricing/Value:
This is where the product shines. The case was only $3.40, and I bought a $0.95 screen protector with it. I also used a promotional code that docked off 10%. Unfortunately, shipping was $2.95 (still not that bad for first-class), so my total came out to be $6.87.
The Product(s):
I bought two things:
The Black TPU Fusion Case, and
a MT4G Screen Protector
The case itself is pretty good. All the holes are in the right places, and it fits really well. It does not add any noticeable bulk, and although it was somewhat difficult to get it on my MT4G in the beginning, it gets easier as time goes. The side grips are really nice (they're textured for easier grip), and I have 99% confidence that I won't break my phone as long as I have this case (the other 1% is if I keep it in the washing machine ). I had an issue with the power button being too hard to press at the outset, but as time went by, the issue got better and it's much easier to hit the power button.
Note: The TPU Fusion cases for this product only come in Black (+$0.45), Clear (+$0.45), and Red. I got the black one, and it looks really sleek on my black MT4G.
Now, the screen protector on the other hand was not useful at all. The product said that it would come with a soft card, but it did not. The thing also did not come with any instructions, so I ended up having to check how to install it on XDA. After cleaning the glass screen with the microfiber cloth and applying the screen protector, there were too many air bubbles, and I realized that the screen protector collected dust quite easily. I ended up having to trash it.
Overall:
4.75/5
Great product, great company.
-0.15 for the worthless screen protector
-0.10 for only 1 shipping option (shipping ended up being about 45% of the cost, but it was relatively cheap, so I can't complain too much).
Get it here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I shot them an email, and here's what I got:
Hi, thank you for your honest opinion on our product and service. Your support is really important to us. We have just issued you $0.8 credit (Rounded it up) via paypal.
Regarding the screen protector issue, it used to include a soft card inside the package but it seems our supplier did not include it in this shipment. We have removed the word "soft card" from our description to avoid being misleading.
If you did not get another screen protector for the Mytouch 4g yet, we would like to re-send you the screen protector for free. Hopefully, this time it can do its job. Please let us know and have a good night!
Sincerely,
Dale

+1 this is a good case for the money. My only issue was had to enlarge the hole for the charging micro usb port, for use with my charger.

Lol, made me buy one also. I also read the extended battery thread and that made me buy one before I read this. Now I don't know which to put on unless I cut the case to fit the battery.

Dam impulse buys LOL
Exactly. I may just cut the TPU case to fit the battery.
I did not like this case. I found it to added far too bulk to the phone.
However....I cut the top off of it and hot glued the case to the armrest in my car. (It looks clean I swear!) So now I have a great holder that my phone slides in and out of easily that keeps it nice and secure where I can see the screen to know who's calling before answering on the bluetooth.
It's a GREAT phoen case for this purpose. And I'm thrilled with my purchase.

Carbon fiber skin $4.99 shipped W/PICS!!!

I was snooping around for SII, Epic 4G Touch, accessories and stumbled upon this on eBay. I thought it was going to be just a cheap vinyl with an image of carbon fiber printed all over it. For $4.99 shipped I thought I would give it a try.
eBay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/22094980676...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1831wt_1063
When I received it (quick shipping too) I was surprised to see that the skin actually has texture rather than just being a flat vinyl. Its a dry installation and fairly easy to do, granted that you dont drink 3 bottles of Monster before applying. The skin also comes with 2 screen protectors which require a water/soap solution, I didn't bother applying those or even trying them out. ( I hate wet installation screen protectors, prefer dry installation. ) So I cannot comment on the quality of the screen protectors.
The skin covers the entire back and all sides. The cutouts are proper and do not conflict with any functionality. NOTHING in the front is covered with this skin, which I thought kinda sucked. But now that its on my phone I actually think its better that way.
Once applied the skin looks pretty sweet. The texture grips nice and protects your phone from scratches that would mostly derive from being in your pocket, sliding on counters, sitting in your cup holder while driving, and when placing it on the bathroom sink while you wipe your rear after that poopy-while-on-your-phoney.
DONT THINK this will protect your phone from a wooden bat swing or drops. Its a skin, not an otterbox defender.
As for quality, I have had it on my SII for 6 days and still looks as it did the day I put it on. In another week, who knows, another month who knows. Maybe tomorrow it will fall apart and disintegrate.. im not sure.. but so far it was well worth the 5 bucks, and then some.
Side note: my local mall charges like $90 bucks for these things with installation.. WTH................. (granted those are probably better quality)
I have it on my Nook Color and it is definitely worth the price.
Looks nice
I like... For 5 bucks I'm totally going to give this one a try. Thank OP
got one!
Nice. Got one. Thanks for the heads up.
nice i like this! thanks
is this skin thin enough to not affect its use with a samsung car dock?
I cannot tell you for sure since I dont have the dock, but the skin adds very little to the device.

Question, did it come with a cutout for the Sprint Logo? In the ebay pics it covers the Sprint logo, but in your pics the logo is showing.
Honestly I wish it would cover the Sprint Logo, I hate carrier branding on the outside of the device, huge pet peeve of mine.

I have had one if these since the phone came out. I got it from ghost armor. Mine does cover the log on the back. I also have a desktop dock and it still fits. I am sure my skin is the same thickness as this one. Mine is just more expensive since these weren't out yet.

There is a cutout for the sprint logo, so it does show once the skin is applied.
Have you ever tried rubbing a sugar cube on it? I have heard of people doing that and successfully removing such logos off their device.

Dear cds0699,
Hello,
We do apologize, we made a mistake.
This item was shipped out last Friday (March 9), due to the relocation of our manufacturing facility.
Please allow until the end of the week to receive your order. Since we use USPS there is no tracking # provided.

Yeah I sent them a message not too long ago. I use USPS very often and they always provide me with a tracking number, when I sell and buy. We'll see what happens, I'm not blaming them or anything, just saying how it is.
Edit: Just got a response, it is word for word the same as yours. My item was marked "shipped" on the 4th or 5th though, we'll just have to wait some more.
No so sure it's the seller's fault. USPS workers in my area are pretty disgruntled atm and it shows. They are all feeling what's about to happen to some of them.
Thanks just pick up one.

XO skins -- borked up my order... any one experience this?

So I had a Zagg screen protector - and it was just TOO rubbery and orange peel-ish.
Ordered a XO skin - was super excited and got it today. However they shipped me the TOTALLY wrong cover. I just ordered the screen part itself. What I got looks like something that would go to a blackbeery or some sort of flip phone (it has two seperate small pieces)
Anyone else ever go thru this? I emailed the site (waiting on a reply) but I'm slightly disappointed.
The quality of the screen protector itself looks awesome and I can't wait to get the right piece but how do you send someone a flip phone piece when you order a honking huge galaxy nexus protector?
Their customer support is pretty good. I had them send me a replacement screen protector for free... I'm sure they'll resolve your issue really quickly.
I've read about this happening a few times. Don't worry, it is frustrating but the customer support is great and they will ship out the correct protector to you.. hopefully
I've heard of this happening a few times as well. It hasn't happened to me yet though. lol. (knock on wood). As stated though, their customer service is phenomenal! If you tell them what happened they'll sort it out right away.
Thanks for the reassurances guys
I was just worried I might get some sneaky stuff from them like "oh sorry about that, send the incorrect one back to us and as soon as we get it we will ship out the correct one" which at this point it with all the back and forth it would be a month from the time I ordered to the time I get the correct one.

Don't worry, their customer service is really good. They messed up my order too, it takes them 2 days sometimes to respond but they will send you another one free and whatever one you have you just keep. They've replaced mine when I complained about a small dent on mine no questions asked.
Please excuse our mistake, I will get you the correct skin sent out today.
Thank you and have a great day.

Looks like I dont have to return the iPad one! They indeed have good reputation for customer service!
received my XO skin today. they sent me a case fit when I ordered an edge to edge. Contacted them through email and awaiting a response.
They as a company must be taking a pretty large loss with all these miss shipments. Would be prudent for them to get their shipping department in order.
I applied the skin and it looked flawless after 2 hours. I spent 15 minutes blow drying it, alternating from warm to cold air on low setting. the warm air sped up the smoothing out process for me. Anyway, it looks good, but I didn't want a case fit as I use a Ringke case and it doesn't overlap the screen.
They didn't mess up my order. It happens though. I've heard nothing but great things about their customer service. just a longer wait. :/
Just an update. received an email just now stating that they will be sending me out a replacement skin plus an extra skin for my troubles, but they said they wouldn't be sending a squeegee or solution which I have plenty of. quick response and excellent customer service. They still need to work on their shipping department.
Well, it happens. They shipped me the wrong screen protector TWICE, one for an iPhone (*shudder*) and one for the Motorola RAZR before finally shipping me the correct one.
Do any of you have the screen with rainbow strips in one half of it? The one for my nexus is like this. Should I contact CS and request a new one?

they will send you a new one. Just remember if you peel back the screen protector to adjust it after sqeegeeing, thats when you may have problems with rainbow effects, or if you have any oil at all on the screen before applying, it will be distributed in the solution during application and cause a rainbow effect. I wish they would say these things in there instructions.
i used soap and water to clean my screen with a soft rag. then I paper toweled it and then used an air duster to remove the paper towel particles. Probably didnt need to go to those extremes, but im anal about how my screen looks, and my screen looks flawless.
As others have said, steam up your bathroom and apply in there if you have problems with dust particles.

Don't worry, their customer service is really good. They messed up my order too, it takes them 2 days sometimes to respond but they will send you another one free and whatever one you have you just keep. They've replaced mine when I complained about a small dent on mine no questions asked.

Do they charge u fees of the dent one?
They are great. My first sp peeled up and they sent a new one. Then I got a case and ordered a case fit. They shipped a standard fit sp. I emailed them and 5 days later had the right sp. No questions asked, great service.

CIMO clear TPU case Revision 2

I bought a CIMO TPU case and was disappointed that the volume rocker and power button were covered. It made them very hard to push. Other than that, I actually liked the case a lot. I just found this today:
http://www.amazon.com/Cimo-Flexible...&sr=8-12&keywords=galaxy+s+III+clear+tpu+case
They've put out a "revision 2" case with cutouts over the two buttons. It also says the hole around the USB port is bigger. On the Amazon page, it says to contact them for a replacement. I haven't figured out where to contact them, but I'm going to see what it's all about. Maybe I can get a freebie since I ordered the first one.
--EDIT--
I sent a message to the seller through Amazon asking what I needed to do to get the revision 2 case. He replied in less than half an hour saying they're shipping a new one out to me as soon as possible. I didn't even have to send in my old one!
Same here. Very good customer service. They responded within 10mins on a Sunday! I'm still waiting on my phone though :-/ .. Glad this is taken care of before hand..
Oh wow I bought one of these! What should I say to them? Because the buttons are so difficult to press. Haha

Thanks for this info. I was a little irked with this case at first for this reason & because of the tight fit of the USB port hole. Now, after using it for a week, though, I find that I like having the buttons covered. Without a case, I kept changing the volume without meaning to just because of how I naturally hold the phone. The covered buttons eliminate that problem for me.
As for the tight fit at the USB port hole. It's a pain until you figure out how to get the case on so the hole is perfectly aligned, but it is doable.

Ringke Fusion - Crystal View case still loose?

Was about to order this from Amazon when I noticed on Youtube the compaints about loose side fitting with the Crystal View version.
The company said they were on it but I can't find any mention of a fix.
Can anyone who has bought this case recently confirm if the bad fitting issue has been resolved?
Here is what it looks like in the video - discussed from about 6 minutes in until the end.

No issues here at all.

I have this case. I have absolutely NO issues with any type of looseness on the case anywhere on the device. I'm wondering if this is an anomaly? I've had this case for about a month (bought it even before the device showed up). Put it on, haven't had any issues.
Did the OP who posted the video get a replacement from Ringke?

Yes, it was 3 or 4 months ago now. May have just been a small batch affected. One month ago the company said they had sorted the problem - just wanted to check with someone who has actually oredered one recently.
Many thanks - I'll get my order off now :good:

Clear has been fixed. Out of the four, two is clear, one is loose, one is tight. Tight was bought a month ago.
In case you were still wondering, I unboxed and reviewed the case here: http://youtu.be/kVWEVmPL6e0

I decided in the end to go with the smoked black version - not because I was worried about the bad fit issue not being fixed but because consensus seemed to be that it looked better on the black sandstone 64GB.
I am totally delighted with the case. It of course adds a bit of bulk around the edge (reassuring imo) but I especially love how they have managed to get the button covers to be 100% responsive with the lightest of touches - they even make a firm "click" .
TIP @itsdacj: for some reason it's much easier to remove by pushing the top part off first.

it really does. thanks!
Hi. Would like to ask whats the Difference between Ringke Fusion Crystal vs the Crystal View version... thank you.
I got this one in 2015 and it's still on there, working great. Saved me from several bad drops. I have replaced the tempered glass once. Same case. Gone from amazon. http://a.co/444bet4
I too have this case, easily the best i have ever used. Going on two years now, and the case bumper has become seperate from the plastic back, but otherwise, its still fab.
Issues i had with it include the fact that it makes the phone a LOT bulkier, it more than doubles the thickness of the phone. Also, its impossible to use most USB OTG flash drives with it thanks to the excessively recessed port (no issues with headfones though). But thats what you pay for protection.
