I have been running the rooted stock ver 4.1.2 GC01 That i found here on the forums mos ago. This morning i tried to flash a new kernel and rom and figured i would test out a few new roms. I download the blasphemy kernal, slimbean, carbon, CM10.2 and dirty unicorns roms. I was looking for a stable and reliable 4.3.1 rom as daily driver. problem i ran into is no matter what i do i get a operation failed, cant verify signature. after hrs of reading a tinkering. i install cwm but it never flashed over the e3 recovery that came with the rooted stock 4.1.2 rom i had flashed. I read that you had to disable the verify signature in cwm settings but no such option is available. I tried flashing the kernal and all the roms and i keep getting the same error no matter what i try. Can somebody please explain to me what im doing wrong? Also if i missed a stable 4.3.1 rom to dl and try im open to suggestions. i figured i would check them all out and see which i like best. Any help in the error problem and possible suggestions for roms is most appreciated.
Well first off, I would say none of the 4.3 ROMs are "stable". Functional yes, but not stable. Try the EL29 Direct Boot kernel-http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p...ernels/Recovery Kernels/GB/Noobnl Direct Boot for flashing. Don't forget to get an ICS modem for the 4.3 ROMs and Wimax was removed from 4.3 by Google so no 4G if that's a dealbreaker.

ok, tyvm for the info. im dl the tar file now. hope that fixs the problem. when you say 4.3.1 isnt stable. what excatly do you mean by it. i know with a lot of roms with this phone it seems like its a ymmw situation, esp data from what ive read. Would i be better of just sticking with a 2.2 rom? 4g isnt a big deal for me. im normally on wifi anyways. when im not i just really need to make sure i can get emails form work and txt messages. 3g is generally good enough for that. most the time i have 4g turn off just to save batt, as im a somewhat heavy user. biggest reason i was looking at 4.3.1 is because of an app. I get the "incompatible device" message if not on 4.3 or higher. i know for fact if i manually install app it will work just fine. It will just be a pain to get new updates since i can just use the play store to update. i did read about a work around but i lost the thread due to trying to get this phone to be able to flash roms. other than the app my main concern is getting the most out of my batt as possible. i seam to have huge battery drains lately. so figured a fresh clean install with a custom kernel might do the phone some good.
Sry for the noobish questions. I came from the fascinate, charge and razr on verizon and was active in thoughs sub forums. But for some reason this phone seems to be a pain in my butt for some reason. idk if its because to jellybean, the phone or im just getting dumber lol. again ty for your help ill post back soon on results.
awesome. it now boots into cmw but wont boot back to my rom. i guess i have to just to flash a kernal rom and modem now right? is only being able to boot into cmw and not boot into stock rooted rom normal at this point?
Also is FC14 the better ics modem to use if trying out a 4.3 rom?
Yes, it boots to a "safe" recovery then you flash your ROM and reboot. The one problem with EL29 is it can't flash modems, you can do that after your ROM boots up tho.

Try whatever ICS modem you like. Some report better performance with some than others. You might try the official releases first before grabbing a leaked one. Either way, your phone, your experience is your best guide.
In a word, with items like this (best modem), searching may not be as useful as experimenting.
Swapping those is quick business.
Good luck!

Many thanks! im up and flashing like a champ.Your advice works like a charm. TYVM. I dont honestly know which are leaked and which are official modems. the list i got doesnt say which are which. is there a list that states official modems and which are thanks any leaked? Which modem was the last official ics modem? also if i decide to go with a 4.2 rom i would need to go back to jb modem correct?

FL24 is the last official ICS released, only JB TouchWiz uses JB modems, all AOSP uses ICS modems.

so i have been reading and reading and reading and mutha efin reading for about a good 2 weeks now and i got the flashing of the roms down and themes they seem pretty easy, but i am still very confused as to which roms are compatible with my phone the way it sits right now. i do not want to go to froyo i love my GB. so here is a pic of my phone settings. if someone could point me in the right direction i really wanna try this theme. if i cant then just what rom to use would be awesome. and also if you could maybe tell me what factors are involved in choosing a rom that would be like teaching me how to fish. thank you in advance.

If you check in Development all the roms are "compatible" with your phone in some way. Understand the difference between BML and MTD and what that means to you and your flashing choices and how to return to stock if needed and the dangers of making a mistake. I am currently using CM7 but have tried CM9 and Clean GB. Those are all MTD and have their own sets of benefits and concerns. Reading in each of them will spell them out but at that point it is simply a matter of trying them out and seeing which you like best.
To use that theme you will need to be on a deodexed ROM. I would recommend the full version of Sleeper or CleanGB 1.12 BML version. I would recommned reading up on MTD before considering changing your partition table and file system:
CleanGB go to second set of links labeled BML version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483903
Or Sleeper, the second set of links on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22289108&postcount=287
Assuming you are rooted with CWM 5.027 already. If not Google qbking77's videos on how to root Samsung Epic on EL30. And also look for the included link to a video on how to install CWM 5.0.2.7.
As for how to choose a ROM the firmware versions are listed in the thread titles and usually all the features are listed in the OP or first few posts in the Development thread.
so just so im reading everything right i should have bml right? and clean gb has a version for bml i could just use that instead of go to mtd right? and thank you all for the help. love learning this stuff.

Exactly. CleanGB had a BML version and Sleeper automatically detects what partition you are on and installs accordingly. When you are ready for MTD CleanGB MTD version will convert you.

It is unusual for a theme to do that. You can reflash the ROM to wipe the theme and check then. It is possible a tower is down near you or undergoing maintenance.

Aha...the old corrupted modem trick! 2nd time I fell for that this week...LOL,
Anyone comin from the Epic 4g Touch should know what this is. For those who don't, its a full stock tar with root loaded in an executable one-click package. This will not add to the custom flash count.
LJ7 Jellybean
There are two versions of Jellybean LJ7. One will wipe all data including internal SD. Performing a factory reset in recovery is recommended prior to use unless you're flashing the version that wipes data. If you are coming from a ICS touchwiz based rom and flashing Jellybean, the factory reset is probably not needed. Just wipe cache/dalvik if there are any issues.
Flash Count Reset Edition
These are unrooted and will NOT wipe data. These will reset your custom flash count before rebooting into the system. Each storage capacity will have its own one click. Be sure to pick the one that corresponds to your phone's storage capacity. YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE IF YOU PICK INCORRECTLY. Wiping data prior to flashing is recommended.
LEN/LI3 ICS
There are two ICS versions as well. LI3 and the original LEN. Neither of these will wipe data. Doing a factory reset is a must if you are downgrading from jellybean.
Note that the stock recovery will wipe your internal storage too. This is why I recommend wiping beforehand so you can use cwm/twrp and preserve your internal sd.

Can the no data wipe version be flashed over a current stock non-rooted LJ7 build? This is how the old sfhub ones worked. Just double checking before I go through with it.

As the tile says, I need some help, possibly a walkthrough tutorial, on how to get from rooted stock FJ12 to Dirty Unicorns 4.2 ROM on my SPH-D710VMUB (Virgin Mobile). I had it running fine at one point and then things got screwed up after I updated to 4.3 and tried making to modifications to fix some issues I was having, so I had to revert back to rooted stock. And now, for the life of me I cannot remember how I got there. Any new ROM I attempt to install via recovery throws an error (error 7 if I recall correctly) and will not install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you mean DU 4.3..
Make sure first you're on an ICS modem...if not. Flash it in recovery on the tw ROM you're on now so you can update prl/profile..If you need a cwm recovery for the stock ROM you're on..Look in rwilco12 repo for a custom kernel with cwm for you're build..
This is how I flashed it..
Boot to cwm on current ROM...
Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and format system
Flash DU 4.3...wait
When it's done...Don't Reboot..Go to advanced and pick reboot recovery
When new recovery comes up....do the wipes again
Now flash DU 4.3 again
Reboot when its done..
Let it settle for a few ...
Boot to cwm
Flash gapps...reboot..
Enjoy...:good:
Thanks. I'll give it a try when I have time in the near future.
The issue that I'm having is that recovery won't flash anything and just gives me an error every time. Is there a way to upgrade the recovery without switching modems?
Mobile Odin, PC Odin... You probably have the stock kernel, which won't flash anything.

Thank you for your help. If I continue to have problems I will continue the conversation later, but for now I'm going to try a touchwiz based ROM since battery life on stock seems so much better.
I'm following these exact steps and I can't get 3G nor 4G to work.
I used ODIN to get ICS stock rooted, then installed the CWM Kernel, and installed DU 4.3.
Any help here.. I've been going crazy for months trying to get this to work.

I've tried different scenarios of installing a different Virgin Mobile modems after doing a full wipe/cash/etc. I've also tried doing a stock install of JB (after trying a stock VM ICS) before i wiped and installed DU 4.3. I read somewhere that 3G and 4G for Virgin doesn't work on the new DU 4.3.
OK, I have notifications and music playing through external speaker as normal, but when I try to use speakerphone it goes silent. The earpiece works fine in calls, but speakerphone does nothing. I am rooted and this problem persists across all of my backups (carbon 4.2/pac 4.2/Mokee 4.4/stock ics 4.0.4/Slimbean 7 4.2) the only audio mod I have used was Viper4android and Sony Walkman, and after every restored backup no speakerphone, I have also tried flashing new roms (Cm9) just to test and it still persists. I am running FK19 and the prl is 15110 (flashed custom prl). could this be a hardware issue? even tho the other sounds still play through the external speaker?
Thanks
It's been an issue with AOSP-based ROMs for quite awhile. There's no fix.

Yep, used gesture search to open apns and think it was ##data#? That opened the other settings menu, but mms didn't work.
Maybe I missed something somewhere. I have the odin flashable gb28, used the cwm installer bat file, and flashed the agat recovery. after that I got bootlooped, and the factory reset/wipe didn't fix it. Maybe I could use the TWRP recovery instead? I did spend a lot of time trying to get the Touched by an S4 rom to work, but I still got bootloops with that one as well. I used the jb format all x2 zip before install, but I was thinking that maybe I flashed it from the wrong recovery. Im gonna go re-read the op instructions again and maybe take another swing at it. Any suggestions would be welcome, along with hints, tips, clues, and up to and even including "hey dumbass you forgot to ......"

Successfully odin'd gb28 and then odin'd agat. also was able to modify ACPverter (uscc zip mod) to change build prop and eri.xml in framework-res, still no luck on getting the apn settings to stick (MNC MCC wont take, dont know the correct values and the old ones wont work), also ##3282# , and ##72786# won't work and I am unable to change the MMSC url.
All that being said it is still running very well and thanks again for the advice on odin'ing everything. if only I could odin tbs4, anyway its a good starting point and stable enough for me to mess around with even though the speakerphone still refuses to work....
ok so I did some reseach and found that the speakerphone issue is from the sprint kernels, around cm10.1 they start to break the Bluetooth and speakerphone, prior builds have success in some cases. time to odin the hell out of it and see if I cant get it back! I have about 4 different tar files for ICS and Gingerbread, and I am gonna give them all a shot
Note: while odining the gingerbread build, after reboot it showed "decrypting meta data" and some other things I couldn't read it fast enough....weird.....
ok stock ics, stock rooted ics, stock gingerbread, stock unbranded JB, stock pit files with ics and gingerbread = no bueno speakerphone/Bluetooth!!!!! anyone got any other suggestions?
Update. I also changed the speaker/antenna that is mounted inside the housing at the bottom of the phone. I replaced it with one from a sprint branded phone and still no luck... S3 arrives next week..

I just rooted my wife's Sprint Galaxy S3 (d2spr) and managed to install Cyanogenmod 10. Back when we were on another carrier, I had installed later versions of the ROM, but only after a LOT of reading. Running the latest CWM, running the latest TWRP, doesn't matter. I cannot install later versions. The wiki says:
WARNING: Firmware update notice
CM10.1 and newer are not compatible with ICS bootloaders on this device. Update your device's firmware or you will get assert failures in recovery.
That is exactly my problem, but how do I perform this firmware update? I hope it's not an issue of reverting to stock, because Knox was enough trouble to overcome. I referred to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787677 to update the baseband, which just stopped the phone from connecting to towers.
What am I missing? Where do I get this firmware? Once updated, will I then be able to avoid further Status 7 errors? (Editing the updater-script every time seems like a hoaky band-aid when one has downloaded the exact, correct, tailor-made ROM.) Thanks a lot to the community. I've learned everything I know from these forums, and I felt like I had hit enough of a dead end to ask for help.
I think you would have to odin a stock jb .tar, NOT KITKAT and then you reroot and flash whatever rom you want. Some of your concerns might be alleviated if you use tibu and back-up apps to an external sd, as well as nandroid to an external sd.
Edit: CNexus or Freeza might have their stock .tars for jb versions around here, they even come rooted too
Edit 2: This thread might have what you need: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947
I suggest waiting until someone else confirms though (but if I'm right you'll want the link that says "firmware/modem/baseband update", the 5th link)

Thank you. I will try it tomorrow, and check back. Samsung has done a lot to thwart rooting lately, and I didn't want to close any doors by installing something TouchWiz-based.
Argh!

If you go to that same thread and find the spoiler under "old versions" (bottom of post #1) you can flash the "MB1 firmware/modem/baseband update" as well

Hold the phone! (Pun intended) There are two context clues in your op that lead me to believe that you should under no circumstances flash any firmware found in that firmware thread linked here.

If you have Knox your bootloader cannot be downgraded.

The only time I've personally witnessed this behavior is on the ND8 bootloader. If you don't know which bootloader you're on already you would be wise to find out before flashing any firmware file.
You've all given good advice, but the best advice came too late. The phone no longer powers on because of the baseband update I was attempting. I'm now waiting for a MicroSD card to show up so that I can attempt this:
