[Q] Custom Kernel Flashing ends with black screen , Arc S - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I really like my arc s and I don't want to change it if it does not fail. However, I decided try new ROMS just to make my device a bit different with improved performance.
I checked several of threads and read them carefully. I have already finished these steps (I hope I managed to do properly) :good:
=unlocked boot loader
=rooted with a software called eroot
=installed ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7-nAa-r2
As much I understand everything is ready.
So I have downloaded a 4.2 JB custom ROM. I put the zip files to my SD card and also extracted boot.img file to my desktop. By using Flashtool, I flashed it. After that, I rebooted the device to enter CWM mod to be able to load the ROM and googleapps. However, I only get BLACK screen everytime. (I press volume down and power button) .
I followed 3-4 different techniques and different kernels and roms but everytime the result is black unresponsive secreen, I only get small vibration and than black screen forever. Thankfully, I manage to save the device but loading LT18i_4.1.B.0.587_(1254-2184).ftf with flashtool flash mode. However, I really want a shiny 4.2 in my mobile .
By the way, about my phone : android 4.0.4 kernel 2.6.32.9-perf
I don't know what I am doing wrong with flashing kernel...
Please share your experiences...
Regards
Onur

Hi again,
Seriously guys, I really need advanced help here. I spent 2 days for it, result is nothing.

The way to enter cwm is not voldown+power. its power on phone first, then repeatedly press the voldown button until cwm popped up

Hello mate, thnks for the suggestion. Believe me I have already tried it with many other combinations including pressing all buttons at the same time

What is the kernel logo that pops up, are you sure the kernel flashed correctly
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app

At least I have identified the problem, I guess
At first I didn't consider that as a problem but I think the reason of this kernel flashing problem is an issue about internal memory of the device. While flashing the kernel with flashtool, an error occurs "1 bad blocks encountered" (check the attachment pls), I did a quick search on the forum as well as Mr Google however the outcome is a bit devastating unfortunately. I think it is impossible to solve the problem. Still, I will be really appreciated if someone shares his/her solution for this problem.
Otherwise, I m kindly asking for ROM suggestions to upgrde my arc s (4.0.4 with kernel 2.6.32.9) without flashing a custom kernel.
Many thanks...

Unfortunately, I cant see any logos. I think I follow the correct method but as I said due to bad blocks, flashtool can't install the kernel properly :/

Keep in mind, this method is not confirmed working if you're running android 2.3.x [ Gingerbread ]. So do not use this if you're running it. Also dual sim ones aren't supported from what I see it tempers with the phone, I haven't tested it but many have reported it doesn't work on dual sims.
Lets get started shall we? Firstly I have gathered up some useful resources that will help you get started. Make sure you read this guide first, from top to bottom. Then continue. As you must have a clear understanding on what you are going to attempt. If you have any queries don't hesitate to ask on the thread itself.

I have performed these exact steps and have successfully unlocked my bootloader and rooted the phone. So if you're worried. Don't be. After attempting this I haven't noticed any issues either.
Okay, first of all you will need to download Unlockbootloader ---> View attachment unlockbootloader.zip
Once you have downloaded the said .zip extract the .exe file inside the .zip to your desktop.
Continue by turning on USB debugging on your G300. if its already switched on then skip the part below..
Go into Settings>Developer Options and tick the USB Debugging option.
Once its switched on, plug your phone to the computer using a USB cable.
So far you've downloaded Unlockbootloader, have switched USB debugging on, and your phone is connected to your PC.
Now run the .exe file you have just extracted. Click "Root" and let it do everything, it will prompt up with a few warnings saying don't use your keyboard because CMD is running.
Once the setup finishes, your phone should be rooted.
Head into the app drawer, and if you see "SuperUser" you're now officially rooted.
Reboot your phone to finalize the rooting and exploits.
Ok, now for the bootloader.
Once your phone is on, and connected again to the PC with debugging mode on, run the .exe file again and this time click "Unlock BootLoader".
Wait for it to do its job, once done reboot again and you now have a Stock Rooted and Bootloader unlocked ICS phone.

Hi, assuming you have installed the g300 adb drivers, once the device is hanging on the boot logo and you connect the usb cable. You need to wait for windows to fully the load the adb driver before you use the unlockbootloader.exe program.

What you have to do is,turn on debug, then power off device fully by pulling off battery then putting it back in, now you must power on by golding the volume down button and power button at the same time, this should get it to be stuck on the huawei logo screen, now plug in your USB cable and wait for you PC to detect the phone and it should automatically install the devices driver's, one its done the now open the folder and run .BAT files, If you are experiencing problems here's a link for another guide : View
Hi,
After the "Unlock BootLoader", my phone doesn't boot. When the logo appears it stars to reboot again and never goes beyond that.
Any ideas ? Have I killed it ?

Turn ur phone completely off. By pulling out battery then apply the battery again.
Now hold volume down and power button and it should be in boot loader mode. If ur logo is stuck well this is in boot loader if not and it continues well.. idk

Hello krishneelg3,
I have tried a method on http://huaweig300.com but I'm stuck with the problem.
Installing USB drivers/Root/Backup IMEI went OK. Then by mistake I skipped the Step on page 5. Check Baseband and kept continued by Bootloader & ClockworkMod all went OK until the step 10. On page 6. After executing BootloaderG300.exe the phone rebooting cyclically, My operator screen appear for a approximately one second and the phone restarts again. How to resolve the problem and is there any hope to return to official ROM?
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it.

What was ur baseband and were u running gingerbread?
If u r on official ics then this guide is for u, if not notify me.
PS : If you are running Gb I refer you to look into this guide, as long as your phone can boot into bootloader your fine, and I'm sure it will boot into Bloader mode : http://www.modaco.com/topic/353386-how-to-root-your-huawei-ascend-g300-for-windows-mac-and-linux/
Thanks krishneelg3,
my baseband is 109808, and I'm running GB.
The problem is that I don't know if I'm in a Bootloader mode when I see a pink screen?
When I press VOLUME DOWN + POWER it starts same as when I press POWER, first logoo (in my case picture of my operator) it lasts for about few seconds, then phone reboots and start doing it cyclically.
The other thing is that, when I press VOLUME DOWN + VOLUME UP + POWER, it then turns into a pink screen.
In that state (pink screen), when I plug in my phone to my PC, PC recognize my phone without reading sd card or internall memory.
So what should I do?
Thanks man, really appreciate it!
Guys,
I solved the problem.
I've just followed the instructions in step 5. on the site http://huaweig300.com and put a new update.app (1 KB) and copy it to the dload. After that I've used main dload (ICS folder, aprox abot 600 MB) and everything updated and installed successfully.
Thanks.
p.s. if anyone has or had the same problem, do not hesitate to ask.
hi all
sorry to hijack the thread
I have just got my son an ascend 300 which is locked to vodafone
its on android 2.3.6
the build number is
u881v100r001c02b892
i have a download of HDU88151079V100R001C00B934 which is the ICS but i dont think that will work for my build
ideally i want ICS but dont mind too much waiting.
but i do want to be able to get of all the bloatware.
I guess i need to root to do this.
the link to the modaco site is down and it seems this is for those lucky enough to be on ICS
would i be better off upgrading to ICS then following the method above or would i be better finding a method to root under gb (If so where)
many thanks

OK get the official pics update b927* must be that build.
After its done downloading, extract its contents to your memorycard of the phone.
Make sure the update.app is in the root of SD card .
Then power off phone, remove battery re apply battery and hold the three buttons "volume up, volume down and the power button" until a screen pops up it will then install the stock ics once its done it'll reboot twice.
If only one it doesnt matter.
Setup the phone. Now to install b934 or newer versions use cwm for dazzozos repacks or the update force method. But I advice u to look for help on modaco. Thanks.
Modaco name : krishang3
krishneelg3
Thanks for that by b927* you are referring to a different version of HDU88151079V100R001C00B934 ?
where would i be able to get this from?
so this would give me the stock ics
what is the advantage of then installing HDU88151079V100R001C00B934 ?
Thanks

Your on gingerbread so your baseband Is 109808 and if u flash any b934+ stock using the combinations say goodbye to your phone. I did that to my brothers and it bricked.
So to get to ice you must install b927 version of ics then your baseband will change to the new one *2030* now you can flash any b934+ stocks because you now have the new baseband.
Go to modaco and enter the G300 forums and look at the first dew pages all the info and guides you need. Procedure is simple.

[Q] Xperia play bootup problem.

Ok this kind of problem i haven't seen. I've searched the whole interweb for someone with problem like this.
So. I had restored my phone and setting back to factory settings. Then i downloaded a file manager (ASTRO). The application was running and i locked the phone. I tried to unlock but it did not recognize. Then i tried different buttons everything worked, i just couldnt see anything from the screen. So i removed the battery and tried to reboot. it vibrated normally but nothing on the screen. I waited for couple of hours and THERE! it booted. But little later it did it again. When it does it i press the power button to lock it and the screen flashes. it can only be seen in the dark. It did that many times. I've used update service and i have updated the phone like ten times but still the same. I found out the bootloop by booting it and then plugging it to computer. The computer recognizes it but then i hear the usb removing sound. THE PHONE DOESN'T EVEN BOOT TO THE "Sony Ericsson" SCREEN. I've flashed 4.0.2.A.0.58_EnhancedV2.ftf but it has the same problem. then i flashed 4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic_UK.ftf (4.0.2.A.0.42 is stock) but no. phone is rooted and has custom recovery and bootloader unlocked. This is strange.. never seen this kind of problem. I thought it was some application that causes this but flashing wipes all data, right?
Thanks already. You are better with these than me.

I think it is the bootloader. It may be damaged. Any ideas how can I repair it? I found this Medusa thing. doesn't seem to work.

[Q] [SOLVED] Tried installing CM 10.1.0 RC5 Odin now the screens just black

Well, after a series of rooting and trying to get CWM recovery on my Xperia ZL and getting SuperSU I decided it was time to update to CM 10.1.0 RC5 Odin I didn't unlock my bootloader cause I don't know how, to my knowledge of a video I saw online if your phone says that you cannot unlock your bootloader than you can't. I was wondering if any of you guys can help me solve this :\ thanks!

If you can still access CWM Recovery you can try to restore a backup of your old system. Otherwise you will have to flash an FTF using Flashtools.
(You can find the FTF that belongs to your phone here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2094).
If it is your first time using Flashtools you can search here in xda for guides, there are many that explain how to flash a FTF
And, as I said in another post before, every rom that needs to flash a Kernel (CM10.1, PAC, ReVolt, etc) you must have an unlocked bootloader unless it's tagged as a stock based rom.

Do a hard reset on it (using the button on the back), don't turn it on and follow the Flashtools flashing process
1.- Open Flashtools
2.- Flash mode > Flashmode > Select the FTF you just downloaded (The one of 700+MB) > Flash
3.- Connect your Phone if Flash mode (It will start flashing).
4.- Boot your phone and you're ready to go.
When selecting the FTF just select it and leave everything as it is and make sure that you have installed the drivers for flashing (
They are where found you installed Flashtools
In a folder called Drivers, open the .exe and Install these:
- Fastboot drivers
- Flashmode drivers
- Xperia Z and SO-02E drivers
If stills doesn't works I can't help any far as that, but I would suggest you that If you are able try to flash it on another computer (It might sound silly but It could actually work ), also make sure that you're running the latest Flashtool which is v0.9.11.0 and can be found here: http://androxyde.github.io/

I finished flashing it, once I did it told me to unplug my phone and turn it on. It still hasn't turned on but the light has started actually flashing and staying on now compared to before. Hmmmm...
Edit: Nevermind I got it, thank you so much!!! I'm so happy!
close please mods :3

[Q] Xperia S Black Screen but phone is working

Hi everyone,
I hope you guys can help me with my problem.
I recently decided to root my Xperia S and put a custom rom on it.
The first thing i did was unlocking my bootloader following this tutorial --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159
Then i rooted the device with this tutorial --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44918676&postcount=1
Instead of putting the 6.2.B.1.96_KernelOnly immediatly after the rooting process i first installed recovery using this tutorial --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2308493
Only after installing recovery i put the kernel back to 6.2.B.1.96.
After this my phone was fully working, rooted with unlocked bootloader and latest official version.
I wanted to try to install a custom rom on it and installed this one --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2476341 trough recovery.
I wasn't happy about this rom and wanted to try a different one but could not access the recovery anymore.
At this point i used an official 6.2.B.1.96 tft to install everything back to official. After this i noticed my root privileges were gone.
I wanted to root it back so i tried to follow the rooting tutorial again and flashed my kernel back to 6.2.B.0.211.
After this flash my screen turned black and i am not able to see anything on it.
My touchscreen and phone is still working as i hear the screenlock sound when i swipe my screen to unlock it.
I am still able to take pictures, to plug it on my computer (I see the pictures in DCIM) and flashmode and fastboot are still working.
I searched the past day on the net at tried everything i could find. I flashed again, tried with Emma, locked my bootloader again and tried with PCC but nothing works. Screen stays black.
Please, i hope you guys can guide me trough this process.
Thank you !
Update: I connected my phone with an HDMI cable to my tv and i can see my phone on the screen.
I am sure the phone is working.
Please guys help me, i have no idea what to do now.
Flash the ftf again

New to flashing roms (on phones), need some help getting started

Hi all,
As mentioned, I'm kinda new to flashing roms on phones, I just did it on a tablet I have a while ago. The warranty on my Z1C ran out, was bored with the stock rom, so I decided to install cyanogenmod on it, im running the 12.1 nightly build now after some tinkering to get ADB and drivers working. I just used this tutorial to guide me through.
Now for now I'm all ok with this rom, but I was actually looking for a little more battery life maybe, like this rom claims.
How would I go about trying out different roms? I see I might need a different recovery tool that the Cmod one. How would I go about that and what do you suggest?
Should I root my device? And how and why?
If a specific rom requires me to run a lower android version than I have (5.1.1 currently) how would I go about downgrading it? And why is this needed? I am installing a brand new rom, right?
My questions are kinda basic, I know that. Was hoping someone would like to guide me into the world of xperia Z1C roms. I really tried google and these forums to find my answers, but I can't really find explanations. Before I start going nuts, I'd like to know WHY I do things, and not just what I need to do to get it working.
I know linux basics etc, I just have a hard time understanding the concept and why things work as they do.
Edit: nevermind, found some resources in the forum finally

Definitely a big subject for one question. Best starting place would be real recovery. If you're BL is unlocked and you have real recovery, most things are pretty simple. To check if you have it, turn phone off, and hold power and volume down until vibrate, then release. You'll either enter recovery or see a dead android with an exclamation mark.

Am I doing something wrong? I have an unlocked bootloader already, removed CM12.1 and went back to the last stock release using the sony flashtool. I tried the tutorial on sony's website (im not allowed to post links) yet), but the flashtool doesn't give me the "update TA" option for step 2.
If I try it now it just shows the sony logo, black screen, sony logo again and it goes into it's normal boot.

Double check your technique - make sure phone is off, press power and volume down together and hold. I have found with some ROMs that I need to hold volume down a little longer after vibration. If still not working, I guess ta is not updated. Not sure why it's not showing in Emma. It's been a while since I've done it, but I think I remember it being a drop-down menu of 'available options' or something like that.
BTW- it's still possible to mod/flash with old style recovery, but you need to be ready to reflash recovery with each different ROM.

Hmm, no it really doesn't do anything, just keeps on showing the sony logo twice. Guess CM12.1 flashes the kernel? I would expect reloading stock firmware would install the sony bootloader, guess it didnt.
I'm not too familiar with root access on phone, but it seems like CM12.1 has some weird tricks, maybe it wiped the TA partition? Guess I'm kinda f*'d then as far as the stock bootloader goes.

Flashing the fw from Sony probably did update the ta. I personally did it separately, but I've read that latest official fw flash has it included. I guess it might be a root issue, or an incompatible recovery. Try this - power off, and connect to PC in fastboot mode, (hold volume up while connecting and release when you see blue led). Download this recovery img - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66401233&postcount=12 and copy it to fastboot/adb folder. Then open a cmd prompt, switch to adb directory, and use fastboot command 'fastboot flash recovery [name of recovery file].IMG'. Then disconnect and try to enter recovery.

Download and flash latest TWRP recovery for your device.. And also download a kernel for the rom/firmware you're gonna be using..
TWRP recovery is (in my opinion) the best custom recovery for Xperia devices..
Make sure your bootloader is and can be unlocked (if you havent already checked or done it)..

Flash tool has an option to backup your TA keys in the drop down menu/options..
Besides that...
Since I havent read the start of the thread..
Could you briefly explain what it is you're trying to accomplish with your device?? That way I can help you by getting straight to the point and help you fix your device as fast as possible ,.

Well what I try to accomplish is pretty generic; flashing another ROM that I like. The goal of my thread is to try and understand why I do things. There is a ton of tutorials, but I can't find any that explain why you do things. I can flash a custom recovery, kernel and ROM by just following a tutorial. What I don't really understand yet is the relationship between the 3. Like how does my recovery influence the ROM I'm using? To me it seems like it's nothing more than just tool that run separately from the ROM itself.
BTW with flash tool you don't mean Sony's own tool right? You mean the one from flashtool.net

The custom recovery is a tool that allows you to, flash zips, and other roms to your device.. The kernel is what drives the hardware on the device and sets power options for the battery and system.. Etc..
In other words.. A custom recovery is necessary to flash custom roms.
And i mean through the flashtool program you can back it up. Well, it worked for me
