I switched to Nexus 7, but I lost apps settings - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi, today I switched from my Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 to Nexus 7 2013. I used the same account for them to connect to store... Nexus 7 automatically installed all my old apps, but I lost my progress in game or settings. Can I export progress to google account to sync devices? Examples: I was on candy crash's level 275, can I sync progress without use Facebook account? Or can I save my progress in Angry Birds,Top Eleven and others games? Thanks.
ps:sorry for my english

That's quite normal. If you are on rooted than only games that support Google play service will sync your progress in different devices. With root you could use Titanium Backup.

[Q] Delete old Apps in Playstore?

Hey Guys.
Just wanted to ask, if thereĀ“s a possibility to delete old apps that are still shown in the playstore. want a better overview over my apps. there are still apps listed from older devices. want to clean up a bit, after a fullwipe i even would have got a better overview which apps to install.
thx in advance

No, but they're the last apps shown.

I find this very annoying as well as I try and uninstall tons of apps

They should at least give us a way to change how the list is organized.
I can't even see all of the apps I've ever installed online. The list stops at F.

Because there's so many, mine stops at M. If you go to Order History (or something similar), you'll see every app you've downloaded in chronological order.

Known issue for Android app
Hey, I can't post the link (I'm new), but if you google "delete old apps google play store," the first entry is Known issues for Android apps.
"Deleting apps from My Apps/My Orders
At this time, there is no way to delete records of old apps either on the Google Play website (play.google.com) or from the My Apps section of the Google Play Store app.
We know that some users are looking for a way to delete old apps from Google Play, and we'll certainly take this into account as we work to improve the Google Play experience in the future."
Guess we'll have to wait.

No "What's the song" widget

Hello hello !
So, I got the 4.1.1 OTA for 2 days and I just realize I don't have the "What's the song" widget.
I've got the new Play Music, but I live in Belgium, so, as many other features, I don't have access to this widget.
Is there a way to unlock it so I can have it ?

I have a Yakju Galaxy Nexus in the UK and the sound search widget is there for me to use. The only issue is my app drawer also includes Play Magazines which of course, doesn't work here as I don't have a US payment method.

My Nexus is white.
Even I installed this app, android syste info, titaniun, room toolbox, Do not Run "Whats the Song."
Does anyone know the answer if it is because of regions of device?

@maicoalvim: this will only work if yoo have rooted your phone.
the nexus of my friend here in germany has these apps too, strange thing is, magazine, movies and music is not available in germany.
he updates his nexus through OTA.
i have updated my nexus manually (but with official ota zip file) and the apps + widget disappears.
i have flashed a factory image via fastboot (yakju 4.0.4) and flashed ota again (via update in android). after i do this multiple times the apps finally appears. (but no google play movies, but thats seemed to be normal)

Hello friends.
I discovered what the problem ...
It is the region. When I reseted the nexus and removed the SIM card, it worked the widget, to replace the SIM Card, the widget disappear ...
I edited the build.prop with something like these texts
ro.setprop.home.operator .....
ro.gsm.home.operator......
ro.com.google.clientidbase=android-samsung , etc.
and I was able to install Google Play Movies and to be able open it but still I can't install other Play apps..
when i use droidvpn then i can be able to install the apps only for a few hours but not the sound search widget, etc.
:/
Is there any way to hack some files to use the Google apps on unsupported countries?
can I defrost the goolge apps myself somehow without titanium?
The problem is not only the SIM card, he actually blocks the APP when it enables and configures a wifi network.
I did so, I removed the SIM card, did a master reset, then started.
And it was all there, play movies google, google books, widget "Whats the Song", google music etc ...
But when I configured the wifi on my nexus, apps disappeared like magic .... then the problem is limited by IP, geographic region, not just the SIM Card.
When he checks the IP as soon as he blocks where services do not exist.
But one fact makes me curious .... I have two friends, and their nexus in this problem does not happen ... only in my! : (
look this... my nexus after master reset.

Did you have a solution for this issue?
I even can't defrost it after a reboot. Titanium listed this app as uninstalled(with a strikethrough)
Your device have to be rooted to defrost it with Titanium.
Someone find a solution?
Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know how Titanium Backup or ROM Toolbox "freeze" and "defrost" apps? What are they changing? I'm trying to figure it out so that someone can do it without one of those apps.
I am using the Antek App Manager. But every time I have to shut down the nexus, I have to redo the defrost.
Did anyone make it work?
I have a GNexus bought from play store in US, but live in India.
I can see the ES explorer's app manager listing the Play Books, Movies and Magazines as well as the What's the song widget. But, it cannot be opened.
Android's app list does not show these apps. So, there is no way to enable it w/o rooting, I guess.
But at least was any rooted user able to make it work?

How are "Android activations" counted?

When Google announces "There are X Android activations per day". What is exactly an "Android activation" ?
For example. I bought a used device which was under Gingerbread. I do factory reset, update Android to ICS and signed up to Google Play Store with my email. Does that count as a 2nd activation?
Thanks for any clarification.
They claim they go by new activations. Not used devices but newly bought. But when you think of all the oem android phones and those Chinese knockoffs the numbers could be quite realistic.
I got 99 problems but bamf ROMs ain't one! -nnnnr12
Each device has a unique id that doesn't change even when you flash a new ROM.
Notice Google Play automatically removes the info of the old device when you flash a new ROM.

"knockoffs" do not count. Only phones whose manufacturers license Android from Google count (so it includes the Play Store, etc).

Does that mean Android devices which have no phones feature won't count? For example Nexus7 tablet, Samsung Galaxy player?
Who cares? There aren't that many crack flashers to make a noticeable dent in those numbers.
Only the first time each Google certified device is made active it is counted as an "activation".

No they don't. Every time i do a Rom it doesn't restore any apps and when i go to the store from computer it lists 2 gnex and each have ad different set of apps installed AND in the other apps in library....completely different than if i look at the all tab from play on phone.
The new Rom i flash will always say Sprint galaxy nexus and the old Rom device will say Sprint galaxy nexus cdma Sprint
*Shaolin Shadowboxing*
No it doesnt restore apps. But it does remove the old one from the market. If you add another phone, then the device would show up.

Nope. Trust me...i only have one gnex and at all times there are two on play store. One will have the setup i just flash off of and one will nothing in it as i just flashed. I will go to the "old" phone and click an app(that is listed as installed or update) and will click install and a drop down of phone choices comes up. I click install...gets sent to phone and can then watch said app appear in "New" phone in the market.
*Shaolin Shadowboxing*
Completely different apps. Named one so could tell apart. Plus i have my ns4g and galaxy set to not show up in menu. I got phone in May yet "one" of my phone shows no activation date and "the other" says activated today. I tested a Rom for someone. And once i restore back after i test i cannot connect to my network until i go inside the router and delete devices because it will show one device id with 2 different mac addresses.

Why Android doesn't have iTunes alternative? (win, linux, mac app)

Hi,
I hate itunes because we all know why.
But what is great about it - I can make backups of all my settings, apps, game progress etc.
In Andrid case you have to be genius to do all that (root the phone, install titanium etc.).
What s Google position regarding Android companion app fo PC?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Google Play is the alternative. Your mass storage is the alternative. Any computer music utility is the alternative. That's 3
and google sync is an alternative. btw, what is andrid? :silly:
You can make a backup using adb backup or by installing a toolkit without root. Am I missing something here?
Bcoz its easily mountable
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
mmm google sync pretty much does everything itunes does. have you ever done a factory reset?
once you enter your gmail login it starts restoring everything. all your apps, contacts, etc.
plus instead of waiting for your entire music library to download onto your phone again, it's instantly accessible from google music.
The idea is that you shouldn't have to make backup of everything all the time and mannage that yourself, when your phone and google's servers can do it for you(and yes it can do it for you). It's just a shame that so few developers have implemented the data backup service introduced with froyo. Currently the only apps on my device storing a data backup, is the settings app, the wallpaper app and another google application...(it does work fine with those apps, my wifi passwords and wallpaper and so on is always backed up and set automatically) Many games and other third party apps could do great with sending a backup of my progress and settings.

I am with the OP on this one.
I just tried the ADB method on my wifes RAZR and it didnt work. All app data restored but no applications restored. iTunes is a PITA, and the way that it is pretty much the ONLY way to use you iDevice is pretty stupid. But the principle behind being able to backup and restore everything including games easily is nice. Comparing ADB backup and iTunes backup is just stupid...
Its similar to the way that Windows Restore is a waste of space quite useless, and the TimeMachine on iMac's is very useful and slick.
I would love to have some quick method of transferring game data to all devices. I do not have my xoom rooted, but my Gnex is. PITA
At least for music there is doubleTwist which is ok
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
ADB backup is the way, but unfortunately only good for Nexus devices, but my opinion is that a punishment to fools who buy not a Nexus device, so yes if you use ADB you much smarter the other and maybe bought the device for developer purpose. It's not easy for someone to enter a number of lines in ADB, yes iTunes maybe nazzi crap, but guys OP still have a point there, it an organizer, the app don't need stuff to like sync Gmail or Gcal, but it still would be useful to backup settings and game saves and so, at least just make us a program that could backup without using ADB and with some cute UI..:cyclops:
Play music?
You mean that?
Its a pity the play music service isn't available in most countries, we just get a stupid play music app that does nothing besides play music that we dragged an dropped into our sdcard ourselves.

How do you backup your game progress in Android?

I still dont quite know if there is a secure way to backup your progress in every game installed in your android device. Many times I reset the device and lose all my progress in all games.
It's something I miss from iTunes, which easily backups all your apps data.
I tried Helium Premium and didn't worked with the game Asphalt 8. I tried copying my progress from my Nexus 10 to my new Nexus 7. Didn't work.

Have you tried Titanium Backup? Do a backup with data of the game and it should be restorable later. If you're transferring between devices, then you might need to adb pull the backup files and adb push them into the correct folder on the new device.
Actually, if you do use Titanium Backup, you could also just hook your Nexus 10 up to the computer and use Windows Explorer to browse into the TitaniumBackup folder to copy them onto your computer using the GUI, since it's in /sdcard/. Do the same thing to copy them from your computer onto the new device and restore them. You'll have to figure out which files are the ones you need for that game. If you want to avoid any confusion, only backup the game and no other apps in Titanium Backup, then all the files in that folder all pertain to that game. There should around 3 files, and more-or-less have names that are similar to whatever app you need.
For the record: I don't really play games on my tablet or phone. The steps above are all just what I think should work. I actually bought Asphalt 8 and have two devices (Nexus 4 and Nexus 7) that I would want to sync my saves between if I really got into it and I would use the above method if I really wanted to sync them. One thing to note: it probably won't be very wieldy if you are wanting to continually transfer save files between the two devices (to continue progress on the other device, then back on the other one). It'll get old having to do that often.

Actually, Asphalt 8 has cloud capabilities. You just need to go to settings on your Nexus 10 and click Connect. Sign in with Google or Facebook and then it is saved. Then all you have to do is go to your Nexus 7 and connect your game with the same social media account that you connected your Asphalt 8 on your Nexus 10 to. It should work, I have done this when switching ROMs on my Nexus 7. ( Btw I use titanium backup and sometimes Helium too)
Ok, I just found out something.
I deleted Asphalt 8 on my Nexus 10, which is where I had all my progress, and the installed it again. When opening the game a pop-up window appeared and told me of I wanted to restore my previous progress, located in the cloud. I said yes and it worked.
So I guess the cloud save feature only works inside each device, meaning it can't be synced to other devices, cause in my Nexus 7 it hasn't told me to restore.
Titanium backup is good. Data Sync is another that let's you automatically sync between various devices over the network and/or save to cloud storage like Dropbox or Box.net
It can automatically find devices to sync with. It is smart enough to compare timestamps and only update newer files. You can sync "on change", on demand, or a set time, WiFi only etc. Works really well. It can also sync your devices and cloud storage at the same time.
Even with one device, it's handy just to get your backups off your device incase there is an accident.
Just install it on all your androids and launch it on one.

Not rooted yet. But I would like to know how to backup games whether it's with root or some other way. I can root whenever I want but need to know first how to backup games.
I don't think that you can. But I don't think that you have to delete all of your data to root, but don't quote me on that. Just make sure that you follow each step correctly. Read ahead before you so anything.
I made a mistake while I was routing, and had to wipe the internal memory. Want a big deal for me, since I only had it for one day before I tried.

Having a hard time syncing my Asphalt 8 progress between my two devices: Nexus 7 and SGS3.
I managed to copy my progress from the Nexus to the phone and then lost everything on the Nexus. Now I can't get it to sync from the phone to the Nexus...
It always appears the screen telling me I have two accounts: local and cloud. Which one I want to keep?
It's a mess.
Anyone knows how can I just keep it synced between the two devices? What options do I need to choose on both for them to sync properly?
I use a combination of both Titanium Backup (TB) AND Helium.
I found out for some apps, either TB failed or Helium failed. For example, I backed up "Walking Dead: Assault" with TB and although the backup was successful, restoring the app did not bring the game back to where I left off. Helium works, though. And yes.. I did select backup "data" too.
how to manually restore helium backup?
I just use go backup. Though I haven't tested it on asphalt, all my games except cytus and deemo work. Those 2 would not launch after and had to clear data of the app to get it to launch.
Sent from my GT-I9100G using Tapatalk
Unfortunately, there's nothing like the iTunes backup feature on android. Being root the most advisable app is Titanium backup. Without root, you can use the built in adb backup with -apk option, but beware is not complete. Some games have it's own servers to store savegames or own accounts. Google Saved Games is a feature that allows you to sync savegames between different devices provided that the game has the feature.
[INFO] List of games that do and don't support Google Saved Games
This is how I lost my warranty every time, rooting my samsung to be able to use Titanium Backup, tripping KNOX.
And just because over the last years of Android development there is no native way to save and restore deep app data without root.
Why is that? Is it so hard to implement it?
And why must android apps store user-specific data in more then one place in the memory?
This is a feature that should have been implemented in Android core a long time ago:
Settings > applications > select apps to back up > generate an exportable file (protect it with password if that is the concern)
Settings > applications > restore apps > select your backup > select wick applications to restore
And this to work between all Android devices and versions.
In fact Google Play Store app could be updated by Google to provide this functionality and even make backups on the cloud ...but nobody cares...
Also I am not sure how is that option which is now prompting the user to do a backup/restore at a device initial set-up. How much does it actually back up/restore?
