Best Skins Ever (BSE) Screen Protector + Body - Nexus 5 Accessories

So BSE is getting in on the N5 action too as they are making a front and body protectors.
Linky: http://www.bestskinsever.com/google-nexus-5-skins-screen-protectors-cases-covers-shields-films?mode=list&
These are wet-apply screen protectors, so they basically take a bit extra care and time to install.
You should be able to get a full kit spec'd to your liking (Glossy or Matte) for about $10. They currently have a 20% off promotion for pre-ordering now too and offer sales from time to time.
I really liked my Nexus 4 BSEs considering they offered a bumper-optimized sized version. They are slightly rubbery, so not 100% smooth as glass, but close, and fit great and preserve the beauty of the N4 display/body as if naked. I would not bother with the sides, just the front and back.
I'd be curious to hear of some feedback on the N5 version if anyone gets one. I think I'd prefer a glossy front for best display quality, but would the matte body/back be the way to go for a black N5's back?
Although, I am kind of considering the dbrand skin on the back or risking going naked, I thought BSE deserves a mention/look since it is a nice alternative for a clear option that offers the total package.

My BSE is shipping to my house as we speak. I've been a fan for a few years, will update in thread once I install the screen protector

Hmm... A wet-apply matte skin. That should be interesting Can anyone comment on what it's like?

I am a fan of theirs too. But I went with xtremeguard because they had a 80 percent off sale on their skins so I spent something like 1.80 on one. For that price I can't say no to it.
But otherwise I would go with BSE.

Sure. I have BSE a try after having PhantomSkinz, XO Skin, and Xtreme Guard on previous phones and I'm glad I did. They are the thinnest film and apply better than all the other wet skins I've tried. I used the clear front and matte back on my HTC One and its a fantastic combination. It complimented the One's satin metallic silver back perfectly. And I mean perfectly. No one could tell I had a skin on back there. Non glossy, non reflective.
I'm going to do the same setup with my new White N5. I have a feeling it might sick better to the white back due to the plastic being more smooth than the more "rubberized" texture of the black N5.
Will take pics on Tuesday.

Sorry for the delay. I applied the skin overnight and it looks and feels incredible. The matte back/sides/camera make covered it nicely in a satin finish. The front was glossy clear with extremely minimal orange peel and barely noticeable rubbery effect. For ~$8 it's an excellent price for protection (albeit minimal protection) that doesn't add bulk to the phone.

Is that the matte back on both phones? Looks like wax paper.

I had the Ghost Armor clear skin on screen and the matt on the back and sides of my OG EVO and that was the best combo I have used. When I got my Sprint SII they didn't have matt for the back so I went with clear and I hated it, felt very plasticy/cheap and edges started getting dirty and coming off easily. Granted the back of SII had more curves than N5 so it should be better on it but if you plan on putting in your pants pocket be prepared for the edges to possibly come off on the back.
Since I always had problems with back and sides coming off too easily I stopped using them, maybe it will be better on N5. Also be careful with some cases if you just have on your screen, if edges of cases touch some of the screen they can lift up the skin and ruin it.

It's the same phone taken under different locations and light settings. The matte just emphasizes the already matte white back. It's really no where near the opaqueness of wax paper

The BSE skins have never lifted on me. The trick to getting the curved edges stick is being slow and having patience. You have squeegee the solution out to a point where it's barely dry but still tacky and then palm or press down for 2-3 min letting your body heat effectively seal it.

Been waiting for them to release skin for a while. Have back on N4 covered in one of them, still holding great. Sides on N4 did peel off eventually, but sticking to rubberised material isn't easy i guess.
I'm thinking of going for glossy one.
Does the skin make it a bit more sticky, rubbery to hold? I enjoyed that on my N4, made it a lot grippier on the back.

The glossy clear one for the back would be good as well. All the matte skin does is enhance the already matte back of the N5. Just a matter of personal reference.
I also had BSE on the N4 and liked the glossy front and back. Due to the material and edging, I wasn't keen on putting on the side protection.
The BSE back does indeed have a rubbery effect on the back creating an gripper effect. Although I think it's Medio with the white back than the already black back.

has anybody tried the matte one on the black Nexus5 back?
please, can anybody post some pictures of this combination?
I can't actually imagine the result...
Can these skins surely not ruin the underneath phone body?
or underneath phone display?
thanks

Ghost Armor v. Invisible Shield

Is Ghost Armor or Invisible Shield better?
I am just in the market for a screen protector, I love the Ghost armor body, but I am getting a case anyway, so I dont really see the point in getting the full body protection.
The ghost armor is way better, there's a thread somewhere in here showing pictures of it already. I've used all of them and zagg is always my least favorite. Even though I always try the zagg with every new phone I get and just end up throwing it away...

How does it compare to XO skins or BestSkinEver or Skinomi?
I've got a tough-mate case and it's managed to peel up all 3... I've had to switch back to a diztronics TPU case til I can solve it... any tips?
I will probably get flamed for this, but I think the Zagg's are crap. Sure they're patented and popular, probably because they're sold in retail stores like Best Buy to consumers who may be unaware that there are better options out there. The irony here is that I bought a Zagg for my GNex. I had one on my Vibrant last year and it was so-so. The orange peel was horrible and the edges look equally bad over time. The orange peel on this Zagg isn't as bad, but it is still easily noticed.
This Zagg also carries the same annoying 'defect' as the one on my Vibrant....those occasional rainbow type horizontal or vertical hairlines. Zagg told me it was the way I applied the skin and I said BS. After putting on enough Zagg's over the years, I consider myself fairly skilled at applying the wet type screen protectors. I got all the air bubbles out and let it dry long enough without using the phone as they request. But on a white background you can definitely see a line here and there.
I haven't tried Ghost Armor yet, but I did order a Clear-Coat and an SGP flex protector and will compare those two and use which one I like best. But as it stands, my opinion of the Zagg hasn't changed. I also find it more annoying that they seemed to have started "branding" the lower right corner with Zagg on their newer protectors. Luckily I was able to rub over it enough to wipe it off, LOL.

I think the Skinomi is worse than the Zagg. I tried one on my Vibrant last year and was not impressed. I can't speak for BSE. The toughcase peeled up the corners of my Zagg as well. I switched back to my Diztronic TPU because of that. I didn't like the fit of the toughcase anyway. As much as I dislike the Zagg, I'd rather keep it on than the toughcase, LOL. The silicone layers that touch the phone body will eventually start peeling up the protector simply because they flex and stretch over time. Combine that with the issue of a case being designed for the LTE Nexus (slightly thicker) and being used on the GSM Nexus which is thinner and you'll see what I mean. The TPU cases shouldn't have this problem because they're more rigid. I had to make sure the Zagg was centered perfectly so that it's not riding up to the very edge of the screen on one side which makes matters worse. Even after all of this, I'll bet money the Zagg starts to peel at the edge and corners anyway because that's what they eventually do.
My opinion is Ghost amour is by far better.
I can barely see the outline on the screen. In fact you wouldn't notice it unless looking for it.
There is no detraction of the clarity of the screen.
Feels almost exactly like the bare screen. Just slightly not a smooth.
Lifetime guarantee- just pay install if it bubbles, peels, or you scratch it.
They will custom cut anything you want.

Xtremeguard Full Body Protection

Hey guys, if you guys are looking for a cheap full body film protection like zagg check out xtremeguard its $5 on amazon + free shipping no tax (gotta love amazon).
I've been through a couple of these full body protections on various devices: zagg, bodyguardz, skinomi, and xtremeguard. They are all virtually the same, the rubbery kind. I actually just order these and should be on its way soon. From what I remember it's not orange peel.. it only gets that "peel" look when you squeegy too hard or stretch the film.
I assume it won't be as nice as ghost armor, but it's only $5 compares to $30 + tax... and honestly, my phone is white and I prefer the clear look.. and i bet many others would too.
If you don't like the rubber feel screen protector, feel free to leave that off and apply your preferred protection (magnum)
you said its not as nice as the GA, but my question to you is that does it stick well like GA? im thinking of trying out your product since im using a white SG2 as well but can you give us your user input after using it? is it like a smooth surface or carbon like GA?

It's the same as the other products i mentioned... Like zagg. it's a smooth surface... Not carbon because well it's not carbon designed. Not sure how else to describe it, if you seen or used zagg before then yeah.
Adhesion sticks well. I haven't received it yet for the gs2 but if it's like how it was for other devices. It's a good cheap product. Other users have mentioned it somewhere

It does add a tiny bit of a rubbery feel but I've had no issues at all typing / using the touchscreen. I've had mine on here over a month and it still looks new. The only issue is with the textured battery door. The skin leaves little bubbles because of it. I left it on just for the added protection. I'm also using a tpu case and feel safer having an extra barrier between it and the phone ( dust particles can scratch up a phone pretty bad when they get between the skin and the phone) .

Wow this thing isn't bad at all, xtremeguard really did well on this one.
each film provided goes all the way to the edges.. The screen i actually had to trim a part or two because i wasn't able to place it on perfectly but no big deal at all. the rubbery feel on the screen isn't bad at all. It actually feels better than the cheap plain screen protectors that leaves you grease smudges. This actually prevents that quite a bit. i have the white gs2 so mine sticks on my back really well.
Complaint is that it left the top corners pretty exposed. But i just cut a couple strips from the left over film and placed them on.
I'll add some pictures.. If it is even visible lol
The film thickness isn't bad, it makes the screen about the same height as the surrounding bezel.
I have yet to put on my flex d3o case but i know that'll give the fit problems... Probably have to get a tpu case
When i say trim... It's like a very very small like .5mm strip. I assume it's a perfect fit on the screen thus if you can't put it on perfectly expect some lifts

ebay currently has it for $2.49 shipped. i bought just the screen protector a while ago, and i wasn't too fond of that wet install, but did manage to stick it on. the fitment is kinda poor, although i did trim a little bit of here and there, but it still didn't quite fit perfect. i emailed the vendor and they sent me a new one pretty fast, but i didn't bother to try it again. i bought two cheap ones from amazon recently and the fitment was a little bit smaller than the screen, but at least it wouldn't bubble up with my d30 case on

wow nice find, but yeah wet installs are a pain in the butt! But if done correctly, it ends up pretty nice.
I can guess why the fitment might be off and people should take note especially for the screen... they made the screen a very tight fit and when peeling off the film make sure not to stretch it! once it's stretched, it doesn't go back to its original form right away.
tips on wet install:
-bowl of your solution (soap plus water) better than using a spray
-don't use too much solution, just enough so you can easily take on and off the film, but not to the point where its all slippery
-steamy room (keeps dust down)
-alcohol wipes, don't bother drying
-for screen avoid the bubbles! like most protectors the bubbles will go away, but for this material... when it goes away it, it creates that orange peel effect in that small area.. otherwise its a smooth surface.
-do not squeegee too hard, this causes it to stretch.. use the cloth to soak up the water being squeezed out. I've heard people use the squeegee and the cloth together... haven't done it myself.
-wait until one film fully stays down before applying the next piece... total of 6 easy pieces.
If you don't like the screen protector.. I know there are quite a few who doesn't like the invisible armor rubber feel, you can just use another screen protector
HOWEVER, i recommend using the full body part though. It's really good stuff for those who don't want to put out money for zagg or ghost armor. $2.50 you can't go wrong with that lol.
@mmakoto, you should try out the full body part, I've used this material for every phone i have and it prevents it from the minimal scratches you get from hard cases.. leaving the phone on the table or hard surfaces... keys, low drops.. you get the gist.. It keeps the phone having that smooth slick feel once removed. Oh and it's thinner than zagg. It usually keeps my resale value for the phone high.. like $50 over the average.. thats some good ROI.
D3O FLEX fitment: the flex is a bit looser than the 2 tone ones.. i have both but i doubt the 2 tone one would do well with this.. don't want to risk it
It is able to conform around the phone with the protection on nicely.. If you know about the d3o case... it covers right above the bezel area.. so my screen which had minimal amount of screen protector resting on the bottom right bezel area is barely being lifted (this is user application fault) I can press the screen back down easily.. i will have to trim that area just a tad.
NOTE: the other parts of the screen that i was able to perfectly apply my screen protector (not on the bezel) it fits wonderfully.
TL;DR: Cheap alternative to full body protection (ZAGG). Use a different screen protector if you don't like the rubber feel (not that rubbery though). D3O flex case fits well over it. TPU would probably be a better choice (more room for error)
EDIT no pictures yet... I don't have another camera.. gonna have to wait for the lady to come back from cheating on me in vegas (jk).
I installed this last night. I only did the edges and the battery door since I don't use a screen protector anyway. The back door looks like it has a lot of porosity right now and not sure if that'll go away. The edges work well though I didn't place them that great. It works though. I bought an extra set too. Really cheap!
I may end up doing ghost armor in the near future as this was most to see how I like this style.

Thinking of getting one, for the ones that still have it on how it holding?
Like most full body ones. it gets old and discolored. It held on really well but it started making my white phone look dirty so i just switch it out. It's cheap so i don't mind. Just make sure the corners are down well. I kept taking mine in and out of my case and it started to make the corners peel.

Xtreme Guardz - 1$ Wet Apply Screen Protector

This is a wet apply screen protector from Xtreme Guards. They usually run about 10 bucks but on ebay and amazon you can find them for really cheap. In terms of protection I'd assume that it would protect the device pretty well since it's thicker than some of the other protectors I've tried (SGP, and a regular plastic one). It doesn't seem to have any orange peel either.
I just installed and so far so good. It just comes in the mail with a screen protector and a squeege so you would need to dip it in soapy water and apply. This obviously doesn't come with a warranty or anything but is really cheap so I wouldn't mind buying another one. In my opinion this is better than ghost armor (about the same quality for way less). I'd always run to a kiosk everytime I get a new phone and shell out around 40 bucks just to get it done. This is definitely a better alternative.

Just got the 3 I ordered when I saw this thread. These are pretty great. I like the wet protectors since they cover the whole screen and are easy to position right. There is no orange peel on these and they feel pretty good (little rubbery, but that's been the case with any wet protector I've used). These are better than the Phantom Skinz I was using, and they're only a dollar a pop.

Mine doesn't have any orange peel either. I got them yesterday and just installed. It looks pretty good has more protection than the SGP wet apply screen, but the SGP is less rubbery and this one is rubbery since I think it is thicker. It will definitely protect it against keys etc.
All in all a very solid buy. I'll post pics when I can get my hands on a camera.
All of them take some time for it to start to appear.

Keys unless pressure really really hard will never scratch a screen, glass is much stronger than most material that keys are made of.

I really do like the feeling of this sellers screen protectors, I've bought all of mine from him, including a $10 one for my transformer.
I've never tried his full guards because I always have a case on my device, but his front protectors have done me wonders.

Looking for textured back skin / shield

New owner here:
Read the reviews and knew the glass back isn't exactly a problem but I would prefer something more textured like some other phones - even faux leather even.
I'm currently using the adhesive back that came with my phone and it's not bad but wondering what else other owners are using.
Thank you.
You can find a plenty of "Carbon Fiber" skins around. I had one on my previous phone and made it feel really good.
Alternatively, check this site out: https://dbrand.com/shop/xperia-z3-compact
The page speaks for itself, but there's leather. I can't tell you how the site is because I've never bought from them, and I can't say if the leather is real or not. You'll have to look around to see other people's opinions on that.
Gave you a stepping stone at least.
Bought from them twice.
Shipping is very slow since you pay less than 2$ of shipping fee.
As said, the cut is really precise, and repositionnnable if necessary.
I have the "carbon" one and it looks great. Almost like real carbon fiber.
It's textured and resistant to scratch. Don't expect the phone to be less slippery however.
Bought the metal skin for my Ps4 and it looks great on the console, not on the controller.
Looks like real brushed aluminum.

What about the texture?
And is it possible to use a tempered glass screen protector with the front skin?
I am also looking for a away to make the phone less slippery without a case (I have tried several cases, they all suck more or less).
Never again shall I buy a phone this slippery, it really is annoying how it handles with one hand.
Glass is less slippery if you have sweaty hands. Your fingers , long or short, rest on the side of the phone which is plastic, the skin does help on that area.
If you want real leather, check COLORS
Yes you can use tempered, but tempered has to be placed before the skin.
I'm giving dbrand a try. I've always used slickwraps but I don't see the point of paying for an entire skin and not using it.
Dbrand has sale today also. 25% off!

Recommendations for a Slim, Soft-Touch TPU Case?

I'm a new Axon 7 owner and am currently searching for a case to use on this phone. The stock transparent case that comes with the phone is great but due to the fact it's a glossy plastic, it attracts a lot of grease from my fingers and feels dirty after a while. I also dislike it because the sweat from my hands will form into condensation on the back of the case. I also have a problem where the jack on my headphones (Audio Technica ATH-M50) is too large to fit in the hole provided.
I decided to purchase the Spigen 'Rugged Armor' case from Amazon after reading a lot of positive comments about it, but I have been left disappointed and debating whether to return it due to the sheer size and thickness that makes handling the phone (Which is already large enough!) incredibly difficult with small hands. The case does not add much friction despite the material used having a rubber-like appearance, and I actually feel more likely to drop the phone as a result of trying to fumble with the added size. As well as this, the cut-out for the headphone jack is still too small even though it's larger than the wider than the one seen on the stock case. I also find it a lot more difficult to access the fingerprint scanner due to the thickness of the case surrounding it. Another problem is that the case is quite difficult to put onto the phone and a lot harder to remove, to the point where it feels like i'm actually going to damage the phone by attempting to do this!
For my previous phone, a Lenovo ZUK Z2, I had a fantastic Nillkin 'Frosted Shield' shell case that was made from a soft-touch rubber-like plastic. It was very slim at about 2mm in thickness at most, and although it didn't offer much in the way of drop-protection, it did have a nice textured back and that increased the grip tremendously. So, despite the case not being able to protect the phone quite as much from being dropped, it didn't matter because the chances of dropping the phone in the first place were a lot less likely. I wondered whether there was something similar for the Axon 7, but instead in a TPU-style with the sealed corners, and the same thickness as the stock case that's included with the phone? Any recommendations would be most appreciated.

That looks nice, it's kinda like the old Sandstone Black finish on the OnePlus One. There was one similar to this on Amazon UK but I don't think it had the same texture to it. My only compliant with that one is that it isn't a TPU case which completely covers the corners, but on the other hand the sand texture probably adds a lot of grip to reduce the risk of it being dropped.
I'm currently looking into getting the J&D case from their official website. It's in TPU-form which covers the entire phone (Except from the power/volume buttons!) and has the textured soft-touch back I wanted. The only problem with this one is that the glossy plastic edges look a bit tacky in the pictures, but hopefully it's not as bad in person as it looks on the website. I have a discount code which knocks a subtle 15% off the price listed, so it might be worth a shot.
Looking into this now myself. The stock clear case will go yellow as they all do. Getting cheap see through black case as a temporary till I find a good one. I find the clear one a tad loose at the side.

The stock case that came with the Axon 7 is quite grippy but it is slowly going yellow.

Hey, have you received the case yet? Just wondering what you thought to it. If either you or @Sui77 could post a picture of it, that would be great as well. I'm still debating whether to choose this or the J&D TPU case that completely conceals the corners. I can't stand using the case which came with the phone much longer, as it's made from glossy plastic and attracts a lot of filth and grease. I imagine the ARTILVST case would be a lot better in this regard.

Yes I did. Or is ok, but not as grippy as I was hoping for. The original case provides more grip.
Some pics attached.

Thanks for posting those pictures! That's a shame to hear the grip wasn't as good as expected. I wanted something which provided more grip than the stock case, so maybe this isn't the right one for me. I also live in the United Kingdom and having the case shipped from Germany would make it more expensive in postage costs. It does look like a nice case but I am worried it might not offer much protection if the phone is dropped. I think the J&D case would perhaps be better because it has a soft-touch back and conceals all the corners properly.
I have that same Spigen case as above, an Incipio TPU case in smoked brown, and another thin "shell case". This thin shell offers zero protection in case it is dropped, making using one pointless , IMO.
The Incipio case is OK, but again thin and will show wear very quickly. The Spigen one is my favorite hands down, doesn't add bulk to the phone all ports easily accessable, and the edges offer good grip.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions regarding the cases available for the Axon 7. It's interesting to hear how you found the Spigen case not to be bulky, because I found the opposite and returned it for that exact reason. I eventually purchased one of the cheap, plastic shell cases from AliExpress similar to the that in the pictures Joaste posted above.
My overall opinion on this case has been positive but it has worn on the edges and there are cracks down all four corners. As you mentioned, a shell case does not offer much drop protection but it's definitely better than not having a case at all and it does improve the grip quite notably. However, I wish it had a textured or 'Sandstone' back to help avoid grease buildup.
I am now looking for another case, but options in the UK are limited since the Axon 7 is not officially sold here.
I've been using my TPU smoke black case with a glass screen protector for a while and enjoyed that. I got fed up with the Poetic Revolution case because of the dry protector built into the front. It allowed dust and stuff in between the screen and protector. Tonight I stripped out the dry protector and put the case on with the glass protector still on the screen. Fits nice. I have a full coverage protector to fit and might see if it will work with the Poetic. Might need to trim the inner edges of the corners near the speaker grilles.
I've been using this Proworx case since right after I got my Axon 7, so for a bit over a year now. I wasn't super impressed when I got it so I figured I'd replace it as soon as I found something better or it wore out, but I'm still using it, which says something about it.
It isn't the slimmest, for sure, but it isn't as bulky as the Otter Boxes and whatnot that everyone with a non-cracked iphone seems to have. It protects very well - TPU around the edges, fully covering the corners (which is a must, in my eyes), polycarbonate back, enough of a lip on top to protect the screen if you set it down face-down, and the cut-outs and buttons are perfect. Good drop protection - I've "thrown" it onto asphalt, tile, and concrete without the phone getting a scratch. Also works well with the glass screen protectors we covered in another thread. Easy enough to put on and take off too, with no chance of the phone just falling out.
Again, not the thinnest, but not huge, and the protection is excellent. Plus they're cheap and come in multiple colors. And as is typical with cheap stuff manufactured in China, I've seen this same case under at least a couple of other brand names, CoverOn for one. For $5-$6 I recommend trying it - I like it enough that I pretty much never think about replacing it, even though it (a clear one) has yellowed a tad. After trying like 10 cases for my G3 and finding faults with each of them, I can say I like this one enough that I'll probably replace it with the same one, eventually.

I decided to order one of these in black to try out. Have been quite happy with my Spigen, but after installing this Proworx case yesterday, I think I am falling in love. Seems to offer enough protection, fits & looks nice, AND I kind of like how the buttons are a bit harder to push in, which actually prevents me from squeezing open the screen every time I try to pick it up. :good:

Quoting myself here.
Today I fitted the full coverage protector to my Axon 7 and it fits into the Poetic Revolution case nicely! Glad I stripped out the dry protectors in the Poetic cases. I've also now fitted a plastic protector over the glass one as a quick and easy tear off to sacrifice for wear and tear but the glass one makes the front of the phone flat. Even with two stacked protectors, touch works perfectly.
The picture is slightly misleading as the black section also covers the capacitive buttons so there's no indicator of position, but not being backlit anyway, it makes little difference.
Here's a quicky bunch of pics. I have a soft TPU smoky case, black Poetic Revolution and a blue/grey Poetic Revolution which can be mix and matched. Got a couple of little bubbles under the plastic protector and will fix that later, or just remove it. Looks good with just the full coverage glass one.
If anyone is looking for a slim case I just picked up a Bear Motion Sand from eBay. Best case I've had so far for my A7 and I've tried quite a few. Feels like my OPO did.

Been using this one for over 6 months now with out any issues , not as bulky as it looks and the stand is useful . I also have a full body clear skin from clear-coat that fits superbly, clear-coat has various outlets through the UK and installs as you wait , is a bit pricey at £30 for the full skin .
I work in the building trade so need it well protected .
