Hi all,
Do we know the dangers of using a pouch with a magnetic closure? I noticed today that it turns the phone on. That seems dangerous to the battery! Is this because of NFC?
OA
EDIT: Guess is a built in feature, never knew that!

The Nexus 5 has the same feature as has been in the Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 7 2013 which is the ability to turn on the screen automatically when a magnet passes over it. Many Nexus 7 cases have a magnetic clasp that unlocks it when opened. It's nothing to worry about.
Thanks that's good to know.

Wow! That's awesome! Any flip cases that take advantage of this?

The official flip case? https://play.google.com/store/devic...er_for_Nexus_5_Black?id=lg_nexus_5_case_black
All my phones have done this. I figured it was just a negative part of using magnetic pouches.

Attached is a photo of our jig for the newest Nexus 7, as well as snap shots of our engineer's design work. A lot of hard work as gone into designing a bamboo tray for the finalized case for the new Nexus 7. Really impressed with the direction Google has taken the device.
Will you implement some sort of stand feature with the case ?

Just checked the site and the cases you have planned are nice. Do any of these incorporate the smart wake feature?

That's looks nice. I can't wait to see the final product

Ooohh exciting times
Curious to see some final shots. Since the new N7 is a bit longer and narrower, I am wondering how that will reflect in the final product.

I got a response saying that it would.
Found a vendor on amazon selling the white version.
http://www.amazon.com/Nexus-Officia...7QO6/ref=pd_sim_sbs_pc_1?tag=androidpolice-20
Here is the same in black:
http://www.amazon.com/Nexus-Officia...05&sr=8-12&keywords=asus+nexus+fhd+7+official
So I've purchased a black one and will be doing a review of it when i get it later this week. It does not appear to have the magnetic auto wake function, as stated before by others do to the patent being held by another company.

Other member reviewed that the tablet doesn't even fit in.
I'm sure its a nice case but I think its a little pricey.

It's bit pricey cause the tablet only cost 229 and the case cost 40?

For an offical case it's not pricey. Take the flip cover for the note 8. It's 50 dollars. Every offical case out there is double what the aftermarket ones are. If not more. I'm buying because it's the offical case so I'm already expecting a premium.

I just found out this case doesn't support auto wake/sleep feature
I mean come on Asus!!! for a $40 case you couldn't add a piece of magnet!!!
This case and the travel case are both just big fails. Although I don't mind getting ripped off on OIM cases but at least I want to get a "premium" case.

They dont have the patent on that feature, therefore they can not use it without a hefty lawsuit from apple

I don't think your gonna be very happy with it unless you want a flimsy case that barely fits. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44762070

How do people review a case that has not been released yet (according to Amazon). The black one not the white one (Amazon are selling the white case but say the black case is not yet released)

So I ordered a supcase for my nexus 7.
. When I opened it I found a piece of paper saying you had to take the tablet out of the case before using a wireless charger
I plan on using a qi charger nightly.
Should I ignore the warning (liability?) Is it possible it would damage my tablet? Or possibly burst into flames?
Are other n7 cases like this too?
Seems like it would be a pain to remove it daily

I don't have a supcase myself but i have had my HP touchpad in one of those folio style leather/faux leather cases charging on the touchstone for a long time as well as my N7 in a moko super slim and their folio before it and the only thing that happens is that the case gets warm where the coils are. I don't gurantee that nothing will happen but i think they're just covering their asses in case some freak accident does happen.
Maybe the material can warp or discolor over time if its constantly subject to that kind of temps? I surely hope not as my tablet gets hotter when i'm gaming.

Yeah that's what I was thinking it was just to cover themselves legally.

I have a Supcase on my N7 FHD, and a Qi charger. Well, I should have said I "DID" have, because I don't anymore, not after they all 3 burst in to flames while I was sleeping last night!!
Just joking with ya! Haha I just couldn't pass up that opportunity. I'm sure you'll be fine, and it's just a standard disclaimer to cover their butts. Just to be on the extra safe side of things, you can check the temperature of the tablet every hour or so the first 2-3 times that you charge it using your Qi charger with the case on it.

Yea man, I know you were joking about it bursting in to flames just as much as I was. I was being sincere about checking the temperature every so often to be sure that the tablet won't incur any type of damage from overheating while charging

OK, a little tongue in cheek here.
Below is the case that I have used since getting my N7 at Best buy on their accelerated launch day. I was in Vegas on business, took a cab over to the closest Best Buy (shout out to the guys there on Maryland Parkway). Was fairly disappointed like a lot of us that there were no cases available. Got back to the MGM Grand hotel and spied my "case"; a hotel hand towel!
Been using it ever since, certainly is a conversation starter!
Still waiting on the "in stock" http://dx-box.com/myriann-ultra-slim-smart-shell-stand-case-for-google-nexus-7-fhd-2013-2nd-gen.html from DX-Box. Different story, been almost a month.

This one in particular:
http://buy.thegameklip.com/products/gameklip-casemount
Does anyone know if you were to attach a magnet in place of the adhesive, how well it would hold the nexus 5? Would it magnetize the phone to the gameklip well enough to not fall off easily?

I saw a post on r/nexus5 that said the Nexus 5 fits in the gameklip designed for the Galaxy S3. No need to buy the case mount one

Yeah I've seen that already. But the phone looks like it barely fits as it is without a case, and I wanted something as easy as just sticking the device on there, hence why I was asking.
