[Q] Simple way of rooting a stock rom - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running the new model SGH-I257M and, thanks to @spyke555, we managed to get a backup copy of the rom before Samsung has publicly released it. Now the question is; Is there a way that we can take SU and Busybox, and place it in the backup folder to have the stock rom have root access when we flash it?

Root and keep stock ROM?

Hi all!
I'm pleased to see that root access to the Desire now is obtained, kudos to the developers! I'm tempted to root my device, but I do have some questions:
1) Can I keep the stock ROM after rooting the device?
2) Will I get SuperUser rights with the stock ROM after rooting?
3) Will I be able to by applications from the Market in an originally unsupported region (Scandinavia)?
4) Will I be able to use Apps2SD with the stock ROM after rooting?
5) If I decide to flash a cooked ROM, will I then:
a) Be able to backup my massages and restore them to the new ROM after flashing?
b) Revert back to the original stock ROM? (I guess this is not supported atm)
c) Choose a Norwegian keyboard with Norwegian XT9?
BTW. I have an unbranded and unlocked device bought in Norway.
Hopefully someone can help an Android noob that have converted from the WinMo scene, by answering my question.
I'm going to answer from the perspective that you have no idea to accomplish this yourself.
1) Can I keep the stock ROM after rooting the device?
- No. See (2)
2) Will I get SuperUser rights with the stock ROM after rooting?
- Not unless you install it yourself, and push the su binary to the write-protected /system directory
4) Will I be able to use Apps2SD with the stock ROM after rooting?
- No
5) If I decide to flash a cooked ROM, will I then:
a) Be able to backup my massages and restore them to the new ROM after flashing?
You can find this out yourself. Look for backup applications on the market and see if they offer what you want.
b) Revert back to the original stock ROM? (I guess this is not supported atm)
I've heard you can in order so you can use your warranty; it might be stock or something where HTC can't tell what you've done

[Q] rooting a stock glide and efs backup

I just got my glide, I have a few questions about how to proceed before diving into customization.
From what I've read it's paramount I backup my EFS settings for the "just in case" scenario -- however I needed have my glide rooted before I can do this. But from the stickied thread the only rooting guide I seem to find is very old and requires me to first flash a rooted ROM. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of backing up EFS first?
Is there another way to root my phone without flashing a rooted ROM? I already have CWRM and LiteKernel installed.
Thanks
Thanks for all the helpful advice guys :|
Instead of posting "figured it out" and frustrating all future users who are wondering the same thing:
If you are coming from an ICS stock rom
Use Odin3(comes with CWRM) to flash Clockwork Recovery Mod(CWRM) to your glide
Flash any ICS compatible kernel to your glide. I used LiteKernel
Now, flash the SuperUser arm apk through CWRM to finish rooting your phone.
Install a file manager with root features(such as ES file explorer) and then make a manual backup of the efs folder which be found in the root directory of your device

Change stock ROM framework with only root?

Hello everyone,
I had a quick questions I was hoping that maybe someone had a answer for with some changes I want to make on my T-Mobile Galaxy S3 with the uvjc software that was just released.
I basically have stock software and stock recovery on the device but have root.
On older version of software I replaced the framework using custom recovery file manager of twrp then flashed back stock recovery then just used triangle away to reset custom counter.
I have modified the framework again to enable bluetooth tethering that I didn't have on it before and want to switch but would like to do it via just using root and not a custom recovery. As flashing custom recovery will trip counter and have heard triangle away does not work on the new version (have not tested this myself).
Is there anyway to replace the framework-res.apk just using root access and on stock ROM and recovery?
Thank you for any advice you may be able to provide in advance.
Anyone know?
Probably shouldn't be modding without a nandroid. But I would guess that you just drop the file in the appropriate directory?
sadly won't work for this for since its seemingly in constant use if I do that in the past the system crashes and don't copy fully.

[Q] Unroot and get AT&T S3 back to stock

I rooted my phone then used CWM RomManager to make a backup image of the rooted stock rom. Then put KitKat on the phone. Since then I have restored the Rooted stock Rom. Now every time the phone boots I get the Upgrading Android message and the phone is kind of buggy. I am having trouble finding instructions anywhere on how to get it back to complete stock. If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Thanks
What stock AT&T rom were you running when you created the backup?
Oh I guess I should have mentioned that huh.. it was 4.3
Have you tried flashing the 4.3 update.zip file you can find in the developers forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387423.
I feel like you ought to be able to copy the 4.3 zip file to your SD Card and flash via recovery and it should work, although I haven't tried it so I can't be sure.

[Q] Question about root and recovery

I am currently running the Hyperdrive Rom. It has been a while since i flashed it. I seem to remember that I did not root my phone because the rom had root priv. I only installed the custom recovery. I would like to switch over the AOKP rom but I am not sure if I need to root first or if the rom has root. and also, if I do root will I then have to install a recovery again after. would also appreciate any advise on which root method is best. thanks for any help.
Check the change log for the rom and compatibility with your current Android firmware version. Most of the time after you root you'll be asked if you want custom recovery.
