Which version of flashtool are you using?
Flashtool 0.7 version i m using....
Just to double confirm that to perform flashing mode on arc is press and hold back key then connect usb cable right?
Edit: finally i know wht happen. For those who want to flash bb 70, kindly refer to baseband 70 thread under q and a section...
Sent from my LT18i using xda premium
anyone know what different basebands do?
Baseband is a chip on your motherboard which communicates with the cellular network tower and provides call and data facility.
Battery and signal reception also are based on it..Some Basebands provide good signal reception but battery drains like hell and vice versa..
Cool I'm using 36 on ics would you recommend to flashing to 70 will it affect WiFi range?
Sent from my LT18i using XDA
Certainly.. 70 is bad at signal reception.. Stick with 36 itself, it offers good reception and battery saver!
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
My signal is fine using bb70.
Use the bb70 for me is the best.
See in install files you have de zip or rar file with the drivers
Download the last Flashtool from here http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
So yeah first of all i'm massive dong!
now we got that out of the way. i wanted to install a custom rom to my play. not knowing much about it i got a friend who's into thw whole custom roms etc to help.
he guided me thought it and said it would be ok to flash a CWM rom onto the play without unlocking the bootloader so i did. now the phone wont swich on just the sony ericsson logo and then just a triangle symbol then nothing.
looking about i tried using flashtool and the generic firmware ftf file and it kees failing at 61% *Log file at the bottom* ive also tried sonys own repair applications and for some reason it wont even open. so yeah pretty sure we've duffed the thing but heck thats why i came to you lot!
any help from you fine lot would be extremely appreciated and i thank you for reading.
and yes im a noob, fool, herpa derp etc etc etc.

Your play is not dead ;-).
I don't why but for some reasons, I can't use all the Stock ftf's to get my play back to stock. For me only the HK version really works.
So maybe just switch the ftf file, restart pc first, and see if it gets onto your play.
Have you installed the drivers that comes with flashtool ?
- > But yeah, Flashtool + Stock rom ftf is the way to go.
For the future. Roms sometime work on locked bootloaders and others will not. Always read the dev's thread first . Saves a whole lot of trouble.

Stayed up all night and eventually got a 2.3.2 ftf file to fully install then had to install a proper 2.3.4 ftf and update through the installed update manager but i'm back up and running!
see we did read the rom thread but there was no install instructions at the start just the files and screenshots :S it was this one here we were gonna do the kernel switch after cause he said it would be fine to flash it first then do the kernel later on :S
Hello all, I am requesting help with my Xperia Play.
It was not working smoothly, so I decided to install a custom ROM. I installed the ICS beta and then attempted to install xDark ICS but it has failed.
Pretty sure its R800i, bought unlocked in the UK
I cannot see anything on screen when I turn the device on
When the power button is pressed it vibrates slightly
I can put it in recovery mode (Holding Back and plugging USB) -light appears green
I can put it in fastboot mode (Holding Search and plugging USB) -light appears blue
When I try to flash any .ftf files with Flashtool it either comes up with an error or stays on "retrieving device information"
I cannot work out how to repair with PC Companion
When I select the .ftf file, no files appear in the firmware content. (I have tried various firmware files but any more would be appreciated)

If your sure your flashing the correct ftf for your xperia play my suggestion is this. The part where flashtool have you press and hold the back button for a green light on the led. As soon as you plugged the usb cord to your xperia play and hold it in till flashtool recognizes the xperia play and correctly flashes the firmware of your choice.

I tried it again, does anyone know what this means?
I had this problem a while back swell when i foolishly flashed an ICS Rom when my bootloader wasn't unlocked and I didn't have an ICS kernel installed
The first few FTF files i tried did this error to me swell I was panicking like crazy that i bricked the thing! my advice is to try every FTF you can find like I did. Eventually one worked and it's been fine ever since. Have you tried the Enhanced FTF file located here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591398 If you have try some of these if you haven't already http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589399&highlight=ftf
Try whichever ones you can try just to get the phone booting fully again at least. hope I helped.

Well man sorry to say but if you cant get any FTF to work. your device might be screwed.
Unfortunately, I don't have much experiences with test point recovery. but if you talk to some unlockers on this board. They might be able to instruct you on how to make a test point interface.
Considering tho, you can get a 2nd hand Xperia for 50-100 dollars now, It might be more feasible to just go get a new device.
my phone stuck on sony logo and I can not get into cwm recovery, the pink led dose not show up while turning phone on! I have unlocked the bootloader and tried to flash different kernels to access recovery. I can not find stock kernel.img and ftf firmware for xperia m (single) too. any idea?

From above error i can see that you are flashing 4.1.2 firmware. Try flashing 4.3 firmware.
