Well, I searched the forums and haven't found anything specifically for the Defy.
Coming from an HTC Wildfire, which under similar usage had a battery drain split of 30% Cell standby, 30% wifi, 30% system, I noticed that with the exact same usage, the Defy has a cell standby use of over 50% every single day (right now its at 54%). Funny thing is, it ALWAYS says on the battery manager that there is no reception for exactly 50% of the time. This is bull, because I live in central London, and I rarely get less than maximum signal displayed.
Also, I'm on WiFi almost all the time, (WiFi at home and at uni, so the only time it uses 3g/HSPA is on the way there and back, which is less than half an hour).
Has anyone else had this? Any idea what may cause it? I feel like I should be getting better battery life than what I'm getting now, it lasts under a day.
Setting your mobile to 2G only should save you a little power, also be careful with task killers as they can kill some system processes that reduce battery usage, restart you cell to get them back.
I can get 3-4days of battery life with lite use.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not using any task killers, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Any tips on how to switch it to 2G? I can't figure out anything in the network settings.
I'm just thinking that there may be something wrong with my radio receiver/transmitter to be using so much power in comparison to wifi and phone idle (well, compared to my last phone).
You can switch to 2G in wireless & network settings, mobile networks, select network.
But I am already using 2G and I have the same issue, maybe it is a little better than 3G, but still the "cell standby" is using most of the battery.
I saw the battery usage on Galaxy and there is only a very small usage for "cell standby" only about 10%.
i dont know what's going on with your cell, but WIFI is actually the biggest battery taker
,and the strength of signal power really do something to your WIFI chipset battery usage
what about a better WIFI signal....err i tried to change my cell into 2G or even outline
it doesn't work too much as i want
so maybe think about the WIFI problem?
Well, right now the main drainers are as follows:
Mobile standby: 44%
Go Launcher EX: 25%
Wi-Fi: 15%
Display: 15%
Phone idle: 2%
I was in my place all day today, with the phone permanently connected to Wi-Fi, so 3G was not in use. I get very strong cell reception in my place so I either have a spectacularly efficient WiFi module, or a power hungry cell radio. Or the measurements the phone is taking are wrong.
On another note, Go Launcher seems to be taking up a large percentage since its last update (yesterday or the day before), so I'm uninstalling that.
if WIFI should not be the reason and you've uninstalled the update task,i think it should be OK...but what would you do if that doesn't work?
the battery usage of standby was still more than 40 percent, yes?
why dont you download another battery monitor software....?
i'd have a longtime software error in my HTC G3.....it alwaws show me 45percent remaining battery ....
in setting/wireless & network/mobile networks/select network --- it's good to set 2G or 3G do not let automatic because it switches from 3G to 2G if the signal drops. Set 3g and see how it is.
(sorry for english)
mine on automatic in 6 hours battery dropped to 50% in standby, and now it is set to 3g all the time
mine:
Mobile standby: 40%
Display: 22%
Phone idle: 21%
System: 4%
Games, Adw Launcher EX and os: each 3-2%
when in games mine sometimes freezes and i must get out and restart the game???? i dont no why and i dont no if it is ok but ....
Thanks for the input everybody. So all of today I used the phone pretty sparingly at home, and it's been constantly connected to WiFi. Distribution is:
Mobile Standby: 56%
Wi-Fi: 19%
Display: 12%
Phone idle: 9%
Android System 2%
Under Mobile Standby, it still says "Time without a signal: 50%" even though it's definitely had perfect reception all day. I don't know what's causing it to report incorrect numbers :/
Anyway, I switched from auto to 3g auto (I tried 2G, it didn't seem to work properly, Google wouldn't even load).
I guess I'll just ignore it :/
Edit: When not on wifi, it seems to switch between 3g and HSPA quite often. Could this mean something?

just like what <stapuv>says when your cell drops any one of the 3G or HSPA singnal another singnal will be switched...it'll use more power for changing network frequently.....but i dont no if this could be the reason for your situation...hmmmm
From my reading the 50% without signal is just a software bug, and can be fixed by toggling on aeroplane mode turning of teh screen for 20 seconds or so and then turning of aeroplane mod when you notice it's happening. the 50% will soon decrease. I too believe that cell standby is using way to much on my phone (always 45%+) even though im browesing the web facebook or playing games for larger peroids of time and those apps don't even show up on the battery usage display and if they do theya re only 2 percent or less.
I have a question for you guys :
I get
46% mobile standby
43% phone idle
10% voice calls
3% display
is this 43% phone idle all right? Doea it mean that 43% of the battery have beed drained by phone in idle state (so maybe not sleeping?) or it means that from all the time phone was idle (asleep) for 43%?
I guess mobile standby use is about the same on everyones phones. That's what I wanted to find out!

After Go Launcher EX latest update, the battery seems to drain a lot faster during idle/standby. Removed that and standby battery usage is better.
Just thought I'd add my finding on this.
My Defy regularly showed Mobile Standard over 50% - but also time without signal was always double the time that the phone had been switched on. For instance if the phone was switched on since a reboot for 1 hour then mobile standby would show the total time as 2 hours but time without a signal as 1 hour.
I had always been running on a battery saver profile (in froyo I was running the custom battery profile) & after every reboot the mobile standby bug would show.
Yesterday I changed my battery profile to the Performance mode & after several reboots the bug hasn't shown up & now the mobile standby shows the total time correctly & zero minutes without signal. The %age use has dropped to be more in line with wifi at around 32%.
I haven't noticed any difference in battery life so as mentioned in a previous post it does look like some sort of bug.
A percentage is a proportion.
Just because it's higher on the Defy, that doesn't mean the mobile standby is using more power than it does on other handsets, it could just mean everything else is using less.
There's no point comparing your Defy's battery usage to any other handset apart from another Defy.

OK so after a few days of having no issue I rebooted the phone & the "bug" came back today so I guess it wasn't to do with the battery mode as I then put it back into custom battery mode, rebooted the bug went away.
Haven't noticed any difference over the last few days so I'm not going to worry about it.
I have found that DEFY is getting the readings wrong!
Here is how I get this:
1) fully charged the battery
2) started angry birds.
3) ~2 hour later, battery dropped to 60% and usages was as follows:
mobile standby 49%
phone idle 40%
display 4%
angry birds 7%
WTF ?!?! it should be : angry birds ~ 80%
This mettery is tottaly useless!
Personally I couldn't care less what the battery usage breakdown says. In my case 1% battery can standby 1~2 hours or use 3~5 minutes. That's pretty good for me as a charge can last 2 days.
Hi.
Could someone with this "bug" or "battery problems" do a test for me ?
A few hours after you've last charged your phone (or connected to USB) and being sure you haven't rebooted your phone recently (24 hours or so), do the following:
(My phone uses spanish language so the names might be different ...)
Dial *#*#4636#*#*, and choose battery history.
There, choose "CPU Use" and "since last charged".
What are the 4 or 5 main processes appearing in that list, and what's the CPU time they've used (you'll find that by "clicking" on the process' name) ?
Hi,
after running for 15 hours, one phone call for 2 min, and about 8 sms
and nothing more still remain 45% from 100%.
is that normal or it is something wrong?
wifi, gps, and bluetooth are off, and not many apps are working in background.
no livebackground or something else.
it seems to me, it is very less for such a phone, or I am wrong?
or are there some settings, which need to set to have a longer battery live?
thanks
Hi,
I saw that the dialer use 97% from the Battery! I had the whole day one call for 2 minutes.
is there someone else with such dialer usage?
thanks

I too am seeing that the dialler is using 97% of battery with only one short call made. However, I have so far and still counting got 3d 18h out of my first battery charge. (This is a new phone) This is with everything turned off mind you as I wanted to see the best time achievable with only phone functions active. Once the battery is run down I will re-charge and turn internet on etc.
It's funny that you too have "97%"??
very strange.
could someone post a normal state, how it supposed to be?
thanks
Hey i think you people don't know how the battery use calculate the battery usage in Android.
This is how it calculate
Suppose you had power on the phone then and you are using 3 apps like
1.dialer
2.wifi
3.display
then from above 3 which is the most used app the battery usage will give it more percentage.(But you will not see any 97 % if you are using 5-6 activities)The more the number of apps the less the percentage of each Activity.
The region why you are seeing 97% on battery usage about dialer is that you are using only dialer nothing else.If You use use gallary, wifi, bluetooth, calls, maps etc all together then battery usage will show you 15 to 20 % in each.
To increase battery life calibrate you battery.(let the battery discharge once and recharge it without power on and without any break)
In this forum i had seen that some are geting 4 days of battery with moderate usage and some getting only 1 day.You Had not calibrated your battery.Every Android mobile needs battery calibration atleast once in 1 month.
hi shreyasharusia
yesterday I made a reset, and I calibrate the phone.
Now I have following situation:
Dialer 41%
Cell Standby 29%
Phone Idle 28%
display 2%
android system 2%
Today I made just on call for 2 min, and I have 98%
do you think somthing is wrong with it?
thanks
could be a bug with the sense causing the battery life to be short. I usually let my phone discharge every day before I charge it for the next day. As I am usually using my phone every day the battery usually lats a day at the maximum this is usually because i am always listening to music or texting people.
now I have again this situation.
I did nothing with the phone. just one call for 2 min and 2 text, thats it.
dialer 95%
cell standby 3%
phone idle 3%
so then it is wrong to have the dialer on 95% right?

that's not possible.Battery use limits to 100 % not 101%. 95+3+3 = 101.And in your first post 41+29+28+2+2 = 102.How it can be possible .
Also check is your connection is 3g or 2g.You get your battery life according to it.
.... I know, but it is fact
I was surprised too....)
I will search for a screenshot tool, and I will post it soon....
by the way, I check it with Advanced Task Manager, maybe this tool is wrong?
I use 2G only. I wouldn't be suprised if bluetooth and wlan would be on, and after a work day the battery is empty, but for one call and 2 text?
as for now, the Task Manager and a File Manager is installed, the rest is all on default.
thanks

Use Shootme for screenshot. And Take it to service center for getting low battery issue.
Hey try juice defender. It really works
Hi shreyasharusia
I need to be root to run this tool. is there another that I can use without being root?
Anyway now I have following situation.
Dialer 96%
Cell Standby 3%
Phone Idle 3%
I will try now the other tool, which do you recommend to me...
thanks by the way
but just to clear it, to have the dialer on 96% is wrong, right?
Andy
Hi, im new htc wildfire s user, barely a week. Before my battery usage showed lots of things but now theres Dialer 97%, Cell Standby 2 %, and Phone idle 2 %. Whats going on :S? Im releaved that im not the only one. Can somebody please help me im begging
My girlfriend's wildfire s' battery life is really bad. At first it was like 16 hours, but that was when it was in a really heavy use. Now it lasts only for about 12 hours with very minimal use: a couple sms' and little calling. In fact the usage doesn't even affect the battery life, as it drains at a constant rate. The values are _always_ the same: Dialer takes 49%, Android system 49%, Idle 2% It doesn't even show how much the display is using!
[SOLVED] this battery issue
Hello everyone who is experiencing really massive battery drain on wildfire S.
Symptoms:
1. you own wildfire S
2. in battery stats the "dialer" is on top (eg. 97%)
3. you have made a call recently
4. experiencing battery drain about 30-50% per hour.
Cause:
Maybe it really surprises you (or your girlfriend), but you are most probably making a phone call. The new wildfire's dialer is just a bit crappy. When you dial a number and then want to hang up, you have to do it by correct button (the red "hang-up" button). There is also a possibility to "terminate the call" by pressing the "back" button on the bottom, but in this case your call is not terminated at all, but dialer is running now in the background. The nice example is when you are calling a buddy and then you hang-up(using back button) after you realized that you are being redirected to voicemail. By doing this you are still talking to a voicemail for a period of time until the call is terminated automatically by that particular carrier.
Solution:
Use the red button to terminate the phone call. Check the logs and you will see if this is your case.
If you find this post helping to you, just say "Thanks" ---->
does anyone know the pin diagram for the battery?
I just want to know how the android takes the data from the battery.
For users experiencing massive battery drain after making a call and the infamous "Dialer" process is showing up in the battery, you need to follow the greatest battery saving top found in this thread. impreza_rs posted this solution taken from the HTC website:
"connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green, indicating the device is fully charged. Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off. Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on. Once the phone is powered completely on, power it off again and reconnect it to the charger until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone, power it on, and use it. You need to use this sequence only once"
I do this process every time I flash a new rom on my device and it works flawlessly. A little tedious, but you only have to do this once and you are good to go.
Tried searching, maybe im bad at searching....hmm but anyway
Ok so recently i noticed when i checked my battery use i see this new funky looking one that i dont recall seeing in the past.
'Keypad' and its taking up 3% of my battery and it stays 3% constant until i charge the phone. What worries me the most is the Use details i see after i select Keypad:
CPU total: 21s
CPU F/G: 12s
Keep awake: 9m 15s (so far while im making this post)
Data sent: 544kb
Data received: 391kb
included packages - SIM toolkit (i think this one is from my vodafone simcard), Keypad and Dialer storage
Now the most alarming part for me is one the keep awake and the data being sent/received. the data although in small kb, it keeps going up every time i check it by 50-100kb.
Could this be a malware?
I'm also suddenly seeing Android System added to my battery used list but its relative small as well like 2% overall but again it stays at 2% while the battery is discharging. Again when i select into it, i see data being sent/received.
My phone is a HK unbranded rooted and flashed with 2.3.2 gingerbreaked then OTA upgraded to 2.3.3.
PS: my battery life is suffering i sometimes see a sudden drop of 2-3% in 20mins or an hour
This happens when you use SIP calling and select the option to receive internet calls.
Hi, today i got a new sim as my old one had ran out. I was on around 74%. i put the sim in my phone, turned it on and the battery was on 9%. in battery usage you can see the sudden fall, uploaded here:
http://postimage.org/image/9hshppzol/
also, when i go to phone info, it displays my phone number as 00000000000
I can still text and call, and the reciever gets my normal number
Ive tried a reboot, removed sim and replaced it but still the same problem
Im fully stock, nothing changed.
Anybody get any idea what i could do?
Thanks
Hi,
I bought Used Samsung Galaxy Note ii N7100 4 days ago ,which was around 11 months used in good condition .
When I bought phone first I flashed it to Prerooted JB 4.3 found on xda-developers threads only .for 1st full charge i got good battery backup .
After that day i am not able to get half of that backup , I didnt do anything extra , ive uninstalled evry new apps , then I did factory format . still nothing
I am using power saver mode , but nothing . getting very bad backup .on first day i got gud backup n after that i started to gave me worst , why is that ? I am charging my phone from travel adapter which came with phone . it takes around 3 -4 hrs to full charge , any help ?
Using stock charger will indeed takes 3-4 hours to fully charged the battery.
Download Battery Doctor from the store. When your battery is below 20% charge it until Battery Doctor says it's complete. Tap 'Optimize Now' button to let it kill the apps which running in the background.
Go to WiFi advance setting, disable location service that Google can use even your WiFi is off (new setting in 4.3).
Set your mobile network to either 2G or 3G only, don't use automatic. It seems your mobile network keep doing something, maybe the signal in your area is not good.
