Recently my phone (HTC One X on 3 network) loses its mobile data connection. This happens very frequently, infact its off as much as its on.
When the connection drops out, in settings under mobile data it says.. "disconnected because radio was turned off" it still appears I have an H and bars on my signal however if I reboot the message changes to "disconnected because service is unavailable" and then there are no bars and an x. Mobile data will connect after a while but then drops out soon after with the same messages. Airplane mode is not on.
I have tried unchecking fast reboot, taking out the sim for over 15 minutes, factory reset, clearing data on google services, I rang 3 and they were as useless as always. She said she refreshed my services and made me confirm the apn was correct.
I have tried every solution I can find on google.
Any ideas please?
ffs this phone is such a pos. Guess its back to the shop to send it off yet again. First and last HTC I'll ever have.

I have 8525 with official ATT WM6 and noticed the following problem - after getting to the area with no reception (deep in the garage) when I return to the area with perfect reception my data connection never restores until I manually turn flight mode on and then off. If I forget to do that - my email is not pushed until the next reboot. I quickly realized that I can restore it by soft reset, but then I figured that cycling of the flight mode helps as well.
Can something be done about it?
I discussed that with ATT tech support and they basically say it is “by design”:
“Nigel_G: To konste
I have checked into this further for you what happens is when you go into a area with no service and come back the voice should reconnect automatically but the data service needs to refreshed to connect like power cycle, soft reset or turning flight mode on and off this forces the device and the network to reconnect the data services.”
Sounds weird to me. Anybody can comment?
Thank you!
Konstantin
Same problem with my phone
It seems that we have the same problem.
I have noticed that the phone would report "Searching..." if it is currently searching for a signal. "No Service" means that the phone is in a no service area.
In my experience, after going into back into an area with known good signal, sometimes my phone displays "Searching..." but will never get a signal. I have to manually turn on and off flight mode. When "No Service" is displayed, the phone never ever tries to find a signal.
I have tried upgrading radio rom but it never helped.
I hope someone can shed a light into this matter.
I've stumbled on a strange issue.
If I switch the Desire to the Airplan mode when the Data connection is off (I use the appropriate HTC Data connection widget to do this), when I switch back to Airplan mode off, the phone is no more able to restore the data connection.
The only workaround found is to restart the phone.
Has anyone got the same experience?
Two questions.
1. When you say you switched off data connection, are you talking about syncing, wifi, mobile network, ... etc?
2. Why do you want to switch off data connection and turn on Airplane Mode? Doesn't Airplane Mode cater for shutting down all wireless?
1. I'm talking only about the "Data connection" option on "Wireless and networks" menu, that is switchable via a special HTC widget. Switching this option off, the phone is no more able to access to the GPRS provider. I often keep this option off to save battery life. I turn Data connection on, if I need to sync and access to Internet.
2. This is not the matter, just it happens. Eg. When I go to sleep, I turn the Airplane mode on, doesn't matter if the Data connection is on or off (it is possible that it is on) in order to avoid any disturbs (calls, sms, etc.).
I just wonder if this issue is a true bug of the phone:
1. Switch off Data connection
2. Switch on Airplane mode
3. Switch off Airlplane mode
4. Try to activate Data connection (for me it seems it's not possible without a reboot)
Had a similar problem which I wrote to HTC about: after the phone has been data connected via wifi and I leave the wifi network it often will not connect to data via mobile network (GPRS/3G), giving the message "connection failed" if I try to manually connect in the "mobile networks" section of the "wireless & networks" settings page.
It seems to have fixed itself now, and I think it's because I've since ticked the option to "enable always-on mobile data", which I had turned off to save battery. Give it a try.

Thanks yurikg, but on my phone the "enable always-on mobile data" option is checked, anche there is no mobile network connection problem coming back from a Wifi connection.
The problem I shown is probably caused coming back from Airplane mode.
The other possibility is Juicedefender which apparently is known to cause problems recovering a mobile data connection (recent update may have fixed this):

I've not juicedefender on my Desire...
I've in plan to do some other tests...
I have a problem with my Desire reconnecting to a mobile data connection too, but not when I come out of 'plane mode, its when I leave a Wifi covered area. It could be the same problem, triggered by anything that disables and then reactivates the data connection?
I have no solution yet, and I have contacted HTC support about it (still no reply). There is some discussion here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656192
I seem to be having this problem too when coming off WiFi connection, unfortunately restarting the phone has not righted the issue...
I'm also having this problem with the connections. Fine on the wifi at work and at home but not switching over to the mobile network. Apart from that the phone seems awesome! Soooooo much better and more fun than the HD2.
OK, my phone appears to have no network connection whatsoever in fact...
Have the same problem as well. Coming from Wifi and to mobile network only - I do not get any data coverage. This is for the Desire and I had the same problem with Legend.
I hope this will be worked out ASAP.
Well, my problems all sorted. Turns out I had to manually input the APN for internet, took me by surprise since no phone I've owned since 2006 has needed that...
Just had to put in the settings manually too. Seems there is an issue with some of them. Would put a link here but as i'm a newbie not allowed Just google vodafone apn settings for htc desire and hey presto
Same problem here, my Hero had it too. I found it did work when you switch to gsm only and back to 3g/gsm... Would love to hear good solutions.
Im also having the same problem.
If i try switching my connection from wifi to mobile data, my mobile data connection fails to work. A power cycle fixes the issue but if i try switching connections again, the problem returns.
Can I suggest to anyone still having problems getting their phone to switch to mobile data when leaving Wifi to view the following bug report on Google Code and to star it to help raise the priority with Google:

Hey Y'all
I spent all day trying to figure out why I have lost my internet on my Desire.
I can browse using my wireless, but if I turn off WIFI, all I get is Webpage not available. (On any page I try)
I have been into the APNs to check the settings & they are all ok.
I am with Orange Uk & have an unlimited Internet package.
The little 3g arrows are flashing?
Also I have 70 meg Phone memory & I get a warning if try to intall a 1meg game, saying "Out of Space Program could not be viewed. Free up some space on your phone and try again".
Any help from the experts would be really appreciated.
Thanks
E
I had the same problem with the interent, turned the phone off then on, and internet started working again.
Ok further update.
My emails are working?
I just rang orange & they sent me the settings via text & told me to shut of my phone & remove the battery, then boot it up, & as expected, that did NOTHING!
So I have no idea why I can only browse using WIFI.
Mobile is enabled, I'm not in aeroplane mode, or anything daft like that.

What values do you get if you go:
settings/about phone/network
look at signal strength. might give you a clue.
i'm on orange uk and my desire can be tempremental. it's loads better outside of central london. perfect on wifi. if i'm in a pub in town trying to read the news, or on the bus home, sometimes i get next signal at all.
what i try, and this seems to work sometimes, is turning mobile on/off a few times, or even powering down/up.
ps. it's confusing when you make a statement and then put a question mark at the end (your emails are working? what does that mean - are you asking us, or telling us you're not sure, or what?)
I mentioned this in a different thread...
Do you switch off wifi correctly?
I found that when I am connected via wifi and then go out of range my mobile network can't connect to the internet.
I have to turn of wifi manually every time in order to have the mobile network working.
Usually switching to airplane mode and than back again solves this issue.
The important thing is to always switch from wifi to mobile network manually. It's quite annoying but it's not the end of the world.
Thanks for your replies.
I rang Orange again today, usual call centre.
It turned out in the end that I had lost my WAP settings.
The call centre talked me through setting up the WAP APN settings & the Internet came back.
Don't know how I lost them in the first place?
I have an Unlocked HTC 10 that I bought directly from HTC. Sometime, when I try to send a text and I'm on Wifi, whether I have a connection to my mobile data or not, the attempt is an automatic failure, even if I try to resend. If I turn off wifi, it won't enable my data connection, even if I turn it off then back on. It forces me to toggle airplane mode on then off If I want to send a text or browse the web. Also, to make things worse, the issue is completely random. I have no idea that it has happened until I try to send a text. TBH, I'm not even sure if wifi is part of the problem, like maybe it is disconnecting from Mobile Data regardless. If it matters, my carrier is T-Mobile.
Keep in mind, I have wifi calling disabled because it was more trouble than it was worth. But for some reason, the phone won't switch to data without my intervention. If I go out of range of the wifi, it will switch, but not all of the time.
Like right now, under my connection settings, Mobile Data says "Disconnected" even though it is turned on. When I just toggled Airplane Mode like I stated above, the connection was established immediately.
Why is the phone not connecting to the Mobile Network automatically? It seems like common sense when it comes to smart phones nowadays and is really annoying when I send a text, only to find out 30 minutes later, it didn't even try.
From other threads it seems to be an issue with the most recent update from HTC. Only fix right now is to flash a ROM that isn't running the latest update.

Hi all!
So I'm on holidays in the US, and coming from Europe I don't want my data to be activated, since i would have to pay an unreasonable amount of money per day. So i deactivated the roaming option in the settings menu, but the data was on after an hour, which resulted in me paying 24h of data.
So to avoid this to happen again, i deactivated mobile data altogether, but the data keeps turning on!! So i paid another 24h. Now i switched on plane mode, but then i cannot get sms or anything.
Does anyone have this issue? Or how to fix it?
In the attached screenshot, you can see how mobile data and roaming are deactivated, but the H+ is still active in the corner.
Thanks!
Did you try restarting the phone with the phone in airplane mode and without airplane mode?
The thing is if I do that and checked if it worked i might be charged again. It was just in case someone had the same problem and knew the solution
