I hope to make this an ongoing contribution and plan to link to important topics that come up all the time, to cut down on the repeats.
Topics I'd like to start with include, but are not limited to:
How do I....
enter Recovery, Download mode via buttons?
do a factory reset
use the FreeGee "Loki" patch?
flash a stock ROM via .tot or .kdz?
flash a custom ROM?
flash a modem?
extract a modem?
recover from bootloop, freeze on boot logo, etc?
what custom ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries are available for my model?
what's the difference between the variants?
what's the latest stock ROM for my model?
etc.
I'd love some help with this.
Can you all help me organize this thread by submitting proper links which I can add to the OP in later edits, please?

Hello,
Today I tried to convert my Korean version of LG Optimus G to E975 using this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487209 but I can not go farther than step nr. 1 because when I open this link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320817 and try to download Baltics KDZ file it does not download. What can I do to solve this problem?

I didn't follow the suggested procedure you are referencing, so can't help you much with that. However, here is an alternative (some additional relevant info here, and several posts down the thread). No need to flash a complete stock from KDZ, and no need to reflash a baseband after that (you just keep the original one). I chose the Epsilon ROM, but basically, after you unlock your BL and have a custom recovery installed, you can flash a custom ROM from recovery. Actually, come to think of it, I never had to flash any KDZs on my OG -- didn't have any reason to. Not saying my conversion method is better, as the consensus seems to be to go with the KDZ flash, but it worked for me. As usual, no guarantees, and YMMV...

hello! I'm new here, and I wanted to see who was kind enough to provide me a link to the stock rom LG E987 using odin to flash another ROM cyanogenmod and paranoid or something like that. I have a LG E987 single root, then still intact, of course thank you very much :highfive:

Alrighty, here: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=20
Just download the one for your model.
If you are planning to flash a Custom AOSP based rom, or something like that, make sure you first:
1. Properly root
2. Unlock Bootloader with an app called "Freegee" on the Google Play store, also BACKUP YOUR EFS, you can find some pretty good tutorials around here on how to do that, you can also back them up with Freegee, but personally I prefer backing them up manually, just to be sure.
3. Use Freegee to flash CWM or TWRP both available from within the app.
NOTE: To flash Stock roms you will need to follow the instructions on this threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010624
and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498102
Any questions here read the FAQ: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434917

I bet that steps 1, 2 and 4 would prompt a lot of "how to?" questions, no matter how many times it has been explained in other threads... Anyway, just a couple of clarifications:
7. Yes, only needed for F180 devices. For E9xx, flashing the ROM (basically, just a /system image) is enough. Also, you may want to "tweak" the patch if you don't want to mess with your BL, modem or recovery (like me). Just remove components you don't want to flash, and adjust the updater script accordingly. If you flash the patch as is, you'll end up with a locked BL and a modem that may not work for you, and you might need to flash another modem and restore EFS (backed up in step 1) - there are more than enough examples of lost signal in pretty much every relevant thread...
8. Not sure about other ROMs, but definitely not required for Sling and VDT (doesn't hurt, but not needed).

Hi everyone,
I've been using PA for a while but it's become really buggy for me for some reason. Everything is incredibly slow and I have overheating issues with a few apps (like Hangouts).
I want to flash it back to Jelly Bean to see if it will help at all, can anyone tip into the right direction on how to do this from a custom ROM please?
Thanks for the help!
hm... I believe you can download the image from here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
and then flash the .tar file like you would with any custom rom. well, if it doesn't work it won't boot but you can always flash another custom rom so it may be worth a try

no no
you don't flash that tar file like a custom ROM.
it has all the necessary instructions on that page though I believe.
you use the files from in that tar, and flash them via fastboot.
to OP, there are sticky threads at top of one of these forums for how to return to stock.
all step by steps are easily found there as well as any helpful toolkits you might want to try which will basically do it all for you.

You only need to flash the very large rom zip file and that's it :good:
Thanks.
That works but i have a little problem.
After installation, it is impossible for me to setup phone with gsm network. I can do it only with wifi...
Is it the same for you ? Any solution ?
The file factory.img in Codefire directory is the original stock recovery or the file recovery.img should be used to restore the stock recovery?
Germany (Europe Common)
Hi all!
My phone as it came clear is a LG-H815 but when I am unlocking lg says it is "Germany (Europe common), and it can't be unlocked... So it stops working, and wont go further...
My question is that: can I root it without the unlocking procedure, because I need that root soooo bad.
And if can root it, what is the procedure?
Thank you all for your kind answers!

Hi, I got some Problems with a clean flash. After wipe everything I flash only the large file zip (1.4GB), but after flash, TWRP show there is no OS installed. Don't know why. When I flash Zip File dirty over 10A it works. Strange!
Have everyone the same Problem?
Awesome thank you. I was getting bothered with the whole "update" message that kept popping up on my phone.
Just a noob question though. Do I have to reset my phone in order to update or can I just update the system and keep all my data in it (I know I will lose root though but that's easy to fix)?
reset all?
i did install this rom. i installed lot of crap (apk) i want a reset xD
what should i do to make a "full new installation" in 10C with this very ROM?
what happens if i wipe the "system" in reovery mode?
thx (im not english)
Will i be able to change my software version from 10b-HKG-xx to a EUR one doing this?

Has anyone else tried installing the camera mod on this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/development/stock-h815-10c-stock-rom-kdz-t3141866)? I'm don't see the new options that I should see after flashing. I've also tried installing manually without success.
fine
merci !
I guess no one except Autoprime can help us with new updates, but since his phone is broken there is no big chances for project development. Maybe we can altogether collect some amount for him to buy a new phone?
Hey i'm getting my LG G4 H815 today
Question
1 - What's the purpose of flashing this rom if it's just stock or did I miss something here?
2- What's KDZ?
3- I'll be using T-Mobile, do I need to flash a specific modem or will being on stock radio be fine?
I"m coming from a OPO & N6, so I'm trying to test this phone to see if I will like it.
Thanks
Is there a chance to get TWRP-flashable stock rom H815 10D. Or how to make it itself? Don't want to loose cutom recovery and all other goodies and recover all of them from the scratch

Using the LG Flash Tool to flash the KDZ in "Normal Flash" mode, rather than "CSE Flash" mode will install the stock Rom and remove TWRP and root.
Your apps and data remain on the phone.
Once installed, simply re-flash TWRP using the instructions in the thread below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/howto-unlock-twrp-root-1-thread-t3130538
... and then re-flash supersu via TWRP and you're done.
The whole process takes less than 10 minutes.

Re-enabling before the flash wouldn't hurt - I would go ahead and re-enable.
