Hi, I have an e980 stock rooted and unlocked with freegee, I can enter recovery from the ROM reboot menu but I can not figure out how to boot into recovery from power off, I followed a tutorial that says to press any key before the capacitive keys light on, but my lights never turn on.
Any help would be great, thanks very much.

I have been told, but I'm not sure, since I don't have my device yet, that holding the volume down button and home gets you recovery, but I agree that there really ought to be an FAQ with questions like:
How do I?
Get to download mode?
Get to recovery?
Factory reset?
Flash a stock ROM?
Flash a custom ROM/Recovery, etc.?

Hold power, volume up and home all at the same time. LG will disappear, as soon as it reappears release them and it will put you into the recovery menu.
Sent from my LG-E980 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
holding power-volume down-home takes you to the hard reset then you press power to confirm reset or any other key to exit hard reset. I just need the combo to go to recovery from power off.
Thanks for the response, I'll keep waiting to see if someone else got it.

Edit: Awesome!! Psal217050 that did it, thank you very much!!!

Many thanks man. It's working...I was searching this for hours!
It is true that someone has to post a complete guide on this subject for different devices and generally how to install custom recoveries,Roms etc. on different devices. Till now there is not a complete guide for this. For example Lg G Pro users, like me, have to find out that they must use FreeGee to install a custom recovery to their phone.
I hope that someone will do it one day.
Again many thanks! +1 Thanks from me

So I have been trying to do this for two days. Every time I begin from battery pull to pressing: vol up+home button+power button. First LG symbol shows then LED home button flashes and then device shuts off before second LG symbol.

No need to press home key, just vol up and power key and release only power key once first lg logo appears on the screen, and make sure you do have a recovery, otherwise install rebooter app from market

What kind of recovery do you have? I.e. stock, cwm, or twrp?
With my phone off, I press vol. up + home + power until the LG logo appears then disappears. At that point I let go of them. Never failed to get into recovery that way no matter what recovery I used.

Its stock recovery.
I don't know that my bootloader is locked or not, I bought this phone rooted. Can I flash recovery without knowing bootloader status? What risks are involved if the recovery installation goes wrong?
Why are you trying to go into the stock recovery? I mean you can't install anything with it as far as i know. If you're trying to install the custom recovery, you will need to unlock the bootloader first, then root the phone. It sounds like you are new at this stuff.
If you can still get into your OS, try root and install the custom recovery from there. Else if you don't have the OS anymore, you may have to reinstall the stock ROM by getting into the download mode.
my phone cannot boot into stock recovery mode by buttens even with some third party apps it boots. i dont know what the problem is??? I'll be thankful if someone can give me the exact procedure..

Hello, I have an LG Optimus G (LG-E973). I had Cyanogen-Mod Nightly Build installed on my device, but my rear-facing camera would not work... so I tried to downgrade to the latest stable release of Cyanogem-Mod. in the process I am assuming something went wrong, when my phone booted back up, the android keyboard would not work... so I could not proceed with initial setup... so I tried to revert to stock LG Rom using this method --> forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010624
I followed each step, my phone got stuck on LG boot logo, so I proceeded to perform a manual wipe, as indicated in the tutorial. my phone rebooted automatically (as it said it would in the steps). afterwards I get the dead android with the red triangle floating above it.
Does any-one know what I can do to fix this? I tried the process 2 times and got the same result both times.
thanks,
Don't know what process your doing, but it's pretty simple to flash kdz.
Anyway if you already flashed kdz than do this
Long press power' 10 to 15 seconds, unplug USB cable from phone
Both volume keys pressed' than press power
You will get a fastboot kinda screen
Now press volume down twice
Now press power

So I tried to do the steps above, but it didn't change anything... when I hold the two volume keys during power on, it brings me to download mode (Where normally I would flash the KDZ) there are no options, it's just a screen with text that explains what download mode is, and an LG logo... any thoughts?
Thanks,
If your can get into download mode. It can be fixed. Check your pm

I've just been doing it through Titanium Backup. It's in the menu options.

Another option if you're rooted is G3 TweaksBox. It has an option to enable the advanced reboot menu.

If you are rooted download quick boot from market. It will have many options and one is booting into recovery.
I haven't done it on the G3, but I always used GooManager for that. I'm sure Flashify and others have that option.

How to Enter Recovery mode in LG G3:
First Switch off the phone. For that, press the power button and choose “power off”.
Wait for the mobile shuts down.
Now press and hold the “Volume Down + Power” button together untill you get the LG logo on your screen.
It may take up to 2 to 3 seconds.
Now release those buttons.
And again press those buttons for few seconds untill the recovery screen appears.
Now you will get the screen.

My solution for that has always been to make a TWRP back up, which I've already done, then move it to my PC and perform a factor reset, then moving the back up back to the phone.

I know this post is quite old, but for those unaware, if you have TWRP installed and need to manually access Recovery Mode; you will get a prompt to Factory Reset your phone. Just click "Yes" and it will reboot the phone back into TWRP. I have done this several times and my phone has never been factory reset.
Just thought I'd share!

This only works if you have TWRP installed via the Bump! method! If you do this if you don't have TWRP installed, you're going to wipe your system
If you want to get to the stock recovery/download mode follow these instructions: http://www.ninjaromeo.com/download-mode-lg-g3/

Once you see it power off let go of all the keys then quickly press Volume Down+Power and it will allow you to get into the bootloader. You can then proceed to the recovery from there.

I've seen people are viewing this post if anyone know how to fix my problem please help or message me, the minimal adb won't work unless the device is turned on in usb. debugging, I can access my recovery with phone on easily but while it's powered off I should be able to get to custom recovery by pressing volume down and power while phone is off, but this method isn't working. So if I get in bootloop I can't get into custom recovery...please anyone any ideas
Well it should be as simple as holding down power and volume button down things but i guess you've already tried that method many times and it didnt work so you ask then, right?
If your phone in bootloop, you can flash tot files and it will back to stock re-root and re-install trwp.
If your phone still (or already) normal, you can download an app that can take you to custom recovery such as rebooter or power menu, thats it.
Yea phone isn't in bootloop, but if I put a Rom on phone I have no way to access the recovery because the volume and power won't take me to the recovery, so if it goes into bootloop I'm outta of luck I don't understand why the hardware buttons won't take me to the recovery, have you ever heard of this problem

How long are you holding the vol down and power buttons? It should be around 15-20 seconds, then your system recovery screen comes up, you choose factory data reset, yes, and then TWRP comes up. If that isn't working - are you sure your buttons are working OK?
If the phone is turned off is there any other way to access it while phone is off?
Yes buttons work fine I hold it down and it just goes to Verizon screen ?
Actually when I hold it down it just stays on logo and reboots back to logo over and over and over
Actually I hold it down and it reboots to logo over and over its like there's no recovery there I don't understand lol

OK... Does your phone boot into your ROM at all or are you bootlooped? If your phone boots, download an app called flashify and get the proper twrp .img file for your model and flash the image using flashify. It's an easy app to use - just make sure you're using the correct twrp .img for your phone...from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-2-8-2-0-t2966129
If you are bootlooped I would suggest starting over and reflashing back to stock using the tot or kdz method. Here is a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/restore-verizon-to-stock-t2827878 I know it can be a pain to get the download tool working properly sometimes, so it may take some effort to get it working, but be patient (and read a lot if you get stuck) and you will get it working.
I don't know how you got borked...maybe it was an un-bumped twrp image? Either way, it is what it is, just try not to do it again Good luck.
Thanks much I'll try this
When this happened to me i would
1: remove battery
2: insert battery
3: hold volume down and lock button at the same time
4: When the LG Logo pops up release the lock button for 1 second (while still holding the volume down button), then press down again
5: A data reset/restore menu appears, and when you choose to reset/restore, TWRP boots to recovery.

Hmm. That worked for me. I'm not sure what next.
Greetings XDA Developers,
Newbie here. I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab S (SM T705). I was able to root it a few weeks ago and I decided to install a custom recovery (TWRP) using an app from the Playstore named "TWRP Manager". I didn't hesitate to do so using this method because I was able to install TWRP on my GT I9300 successfully from the past using this app. However, after being prompted by the app that the recovery was successfully installed and needs to reboot the device, my tab was stuck on start up screen ( See attached photo ). I tried long pressing the power button but nothing happened. I waited until the device ran out of battery and when it did, I plugged in the charger and I'm back at the same screen. After google-ing some possible solutions, I tried to boot it into recovery but was unsuccessful, however, I was able to boot into download mode.
I'd like to ask for the help of some "experienced" users in this forum on how to solve this problem. And if possible, I'm hoping that flashing a stock recovery using Odin wouldn't be my last resort.
Thank you in advance.

Your going to need some fast hands for this one! I've ran into this lots of times when testing kernels and such. Any force reboot by holding Power Button+ Home Button + BOTH Volume buttons all at the same time. Press and hold that combo until the screen goes black. Then once the screen goes black quickly press and hold Power Button+ Home Button + Volume down buttons all at the same time. You should no enter into download mode. You said that you drained the battery so I would suggest charging it in download mode for 30 minutes or so then flash TWRP with Odin.
Your going to need to flash stock recovery or TWRP with Odin to override the boot and get it working
The TWRP app doesn't always work in which is why I use Odin.

As a side note for future reference, hard reset is simply hold POWER + VOL DOWN.
As said all you need do is boot to download mode and flash recovery.
If you're on lollipop you may need to immediately boot into recovery after flashing to make it stick.

Hey, thanks for the heads up. But how exactly do I "immediately boot into recovery after flashing to make it stick." Since after I flash recovery via odin, it would obviously automatically reboot my device? sorry for the dumb question.

You either be quick and hold POWER + HOME + VOL UP as soon as it reboots or you uncheck auto reboot in Odin then restart manually.
