Help with background network usage - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i am using the note 2 n7105 and have an unlimited internet contract with 3. I tether to my laptop and browsing is generally fine (even though i may be recieving throttling) but i enjoy playing League of Legends. The slow speed is still playable for LoL but the ping is the problem. I start the match with decent ping (100 - 150ms) but shortly after it will jump so high that it becomes unplayable (8000ms) and i get disconnected often. I believe this may be down to background apps either from my laptop or my phone and cant find any good programs to identify specific network usage. If anyone can help me it will be greatly appreciated. Otherwise i will have to wait until 4g rolls out in about a month.
Thanks

[Q] Problem with connectivity speed

I apologise if this has come up before. However, and I don't understand why, my HTC DEsire was running perfectly about 2 weeks ago. But for some reason after I installed the iNSertCoin ROM my internet speed and market download speed is INSANELY slow. My phone says that I've got a 4 bar HSDPA connection so this really shouldn't be occuring. I've reverted back to the GingerVillain ROM (the rom I used before iNsertCoin) and it's still a problem.
I've tried many different Radios with the correct RIL's and nothing seems to work. It works fine with wifi (don't know why that would help but meh )
Help would be much appreciated guys. THanks.
Is anybody there?!
Come on guys. Someone help lol
You do realise that using something like HSDPA or 3G connects maybe miles away. It also depends on how much connection your carrier is giving out. Just use Wi-Fi or something but using something like HSDPA isn't always guaranteed to be 100% fast at ALL times.
Check at your carrier if you have any kind of maximum bandwith use. Maybe after like 200MB data transfer your account gets limited speeds. Fair use policy or something. Maybe that's why your speeds are so slow.
My plan is Unlimited Internet and I'm 100% sure I don't use so much that I exceed the fair-use policy. And my point is that 2 weeks ago it was perfectly fine. The speed was fine and I haven't moved house or anything. Just seems very odd that it would drop so much. For example, it takes me A VERY LONG time to download an app now. Before, this wasn't the case.

[Q] Charter 100mb and Nexus...something not right??

Ok, I have charters 100mb service at home with has a Belkin N150 router hooked up to it...I do lots of speed tests and rarely will I get over 25mb on my speed tests...Usually between 20-25. Shouldn't I be getting alot more than that? I realize I loose some speed going thru the router, but that much? Is there anything I can do to improve? Does this sound normal to you guys? Many thanks
P.S. The speed test numbers are done from my galaxy nexus

Usually its just my phone and my galaxy 10.1 tab, but they are never online at the same time.
I read somewhere on here that the wifi on the GNexus is not that great and wasn't all that fast, the LTE is usually faster. I may be wrong.
Do you live in a large apartment building with extremely crowded wifi channels? I know that my Gnex gets about 7 Mbps (36 Cable connection) on 2.4 GHz because it's so crowded. When I switch the router to 5 GHz it gets about 34 Mbps because those channels are empty.
I have 35/35 fios that actually hits 42/30 on the every single computer and laptop at home. I have NEVER gotten higher then 29 on my phone and like the OP I usually only get 20-25. Buff McBig (great name btw) What do get on speedtest with your phone on wifi can you post a screen?

Apparently I exaggerated because I can only average 29 or 30 and max at 32. That is with 3 devices all samsung. The others are gtab 10.1 and sprint gs2. My transformer prime can't connect to 5ghz.

every mobbile device is basically limited by its hardware, memory/cpu and throughput bottleneck. you cant get much higher than 30Mbps on the nexus as it's hitting hardware limits due to a mobile device.
thru the generations speedtest results have gone up though.

If 4G LTE=faster speeds, then faster speeds=faster way of reaching data allowance???

So i was thinking on how i want this phone to be delivered, since i have to wait until monday... but then i was imagining those fast speeds that i was gona have, and the it hit me... faster means quicker.... so is it true that the probabilities of your data to reach your data allowance is quicker?? i need to know because i only bought 4gb of internet... and i use my phone's internet a lot
thanks
You use the same amount of data whether on LTE or 3G. It all depends on your usage. If you decide to use more because its faster, then yeah...you will hit your cap faster.
If you drive a mile at 20mph, vs 120mph, it is still a mile. You went the same distance, just arrived at it quicker.
so it's not going to affect it at all?
It depends on your usage. People typically use more data when things are faster because it is more enjoyable, or it allows them to do things they could not before, such as HD video streaming.
In a controlled environment where habits do not change whatsoever, you use the same amount of data no matter your speed.
It will only affect the speed at which you consume the data. If you're requesting 1.5Mb on Facebook over 3G, or 1.5Mb on Facebook over 4G LTE, it's still 1.5Mb. What you may experience, though, is that since you view information so much quicker, your usage of 4G LTE may go up. Just remember to have WiFi on whenever you're in an accessible WiFi hotspot, and if you start using more data (viewing more sites, watching more YouTube videos, etc) because it's delivered faster, just keep tabs on it. If you're on Verizon, they have a data widget you can download from the market. If not, you can keep close-enough tabs on it by seeing your data usage in settings.

It'll probably effect you subconsciously as you'll more than likely be like "wow this is fast, I'll do more stuff!"
but if you do the exact same things, the faster speed doesn't use more data by default.
I'm still at the same usage as on 3G. As mentioned, if you stream video that's one of the few things where the same use can pull more data because you may be pulling better quality video. If you're really concerned, ICS has a lot of alerts to warn you when you're getting close to your cap, install the VZW data usage widget, and use WiFi at home and (if possible) work.
I spent more time doing speed tests once I started using LTE. It accounted for a lot of my bandwidth for the first week or so.

so no speed tests.... even though it was one of the things i wanted to do... i wanted to see how fast it was.... how much did it take? and how many tryouts did you do?

Slow Wi-Fi Performance

My Note 2 seems to suffer from brutally slow YouTube video loading (buffering galore) over wifi. It seems that the first one or two videos load at an acceptable speed (preset to HD streaming), but every video thereafter requires an unreasonable amount of time for buffering and such.
I've tested the networks at two different locations with the same eventual slowness (the networks are very fast with other devices). Switching to HSDPA allows it to stream acceptably fast but I've been burning through my allotment too quickly.
Anyone have any experience with this? Maybe an overheating wifi chip?

I think the problem is with the YouTube app, I have the same problem. Youtube app with 4G plays smooth, keep buffering with wifi. Other apps plays fine with wifi, only problem with YouTube.
Embedded YouTube video on other apps, let's say Flipboard plays fine with wifi. So must be something with Youtube app wifi setting.

I've had what I would call sub par wifi performance as well since day 1 and have not gotten to the bottom of it. It's very hit and miss, sometimes I'll have 20mbps and sometimes it's more like 200kbps. Just feet from the router with next to no channel interference and other wireless devices in the house don't exhibit this behavior. Sometimes switching wifi off and on helps, sometimes it doesn't. Kinda ridiculous that hspa is sometimes faster than my $50/mo. cable with 3 routers in my house.

Same here. It's very peculiar behavior.
Turning Wi-Fi on and off didn't help in my situation but rebooting the device did. Then after about a half hour of streaming, the Wi-Fi slows down yet again.

I wonder if the issue is directly related to our routers.... essentially what im getting at is if a higher priced router (one that caps at 300MB/sec) is used, does that expand our phones wifi compacity... furthermore do I just buy a better wifi router for like 150-200 bucks or do I call up my service provider and try to expand the service by paying more per month

It's not a service provider issue as my other laptops get full speed. My Galaxy Nexus gets full speed as well. I doubt it's a router issue as I swapped my apple routers for n900 netgear routers and that didn't fix it either. I think it's crappy wifi drivers but what do I know?

Interesting, never thought of that. I might have to run a speed test right after rebooting and right when YouTube starts getting slow to determine whether it's really the app or my Wi-Fi.
I tested two different wireless access points; my home wireless router is a standard Verizon DSL router and my apartment uses an Airport Extreme. Both experience the slow YouTube performance/buffering after about the same period of time.

[Help] RM 6 PRO ISSUE WITH ONLINE GAMES

Good day everyone, first of all I apologize for my grammar and English since I am not that good speaking or writting in English and Im trying my best to explain clearly and thoroughly the issue
So I have bought a realme 6 pro and it s two weeks old. And I m having a problem with my network/connectivity(MOBILE DATA to be specific) since I bought this smartphone. Before you guys say it s about my telecom , I ve already did some test before I wrote this thread.
I play alot of online games and it s very frustrating.
PROBLEM:
My ping is spiking when there are enemies around(rushing me or I rush them) from 55ms - 700ms and it lasts depend if there s enemies.
At first, I thought it was because of my old sim( maybe new phone not compatible with old sim ) so I bought a new one, same telecom. But the issue in network still exist. My signal is good, Im getting 3-4 bars for the whole day. So I decided to test something.
What I have noticed when I am using a WIFI. That when I first open the PUBG M or CODM when I am in home screen of that specific game , I can see that my real-time network speed is increasing like 100-300kb/s. And if play my ping would be high for some time. But after few minutes my ping will be 50ms stable and when I checked my real-time network speed it becomes 10kb/s. So I thought there is a background-downloading-game- related-stuffs happening when you I open the game.
But when I use mobile data and open the game my real time network speed is stable to 30-50kb/s only and after that it will be stable in 8-10kb/s, there is no background-downloading-game- related-stuffs happening so when I start my game and there are enemies around or drop off the plane my ping spikes from 50-600or900ms. So I thought since there is no background-downloading-game- related-stuffs happening while im using data maybe thats the reason behind this issue?
Location: Philippines
PS. Im using gamespace
